Zen Micro: Pause midfile before shutdown looses place on powe

I use my Zen Micro to listen to audio books during my commute. Each file is 77min long. Many times, but not always, when I pause a file and then shut down it looses its place the next time I turn it on. It will be on the correct file but will have gone back to zero. This is anoying. Anyone have any ideas?
I have the newest firmware.
Terry

I've found that if the Micro only goes into 'hot standby' mode, then it finds its place when you power up. But if it goes into 'deep sleep' (after 4 hrs on firmware ., or 24hrs with other versions) mode, then it loses its place.
Use bookmarks. Thats what I do for podcasts too.

  • Zen Micro freezes up during shutdown proced

Hi...Yesterday my Zen Micro developed a problem when shutting down after listening to songs. When I follow the normal shut down procedure it freezes and the screen locks up with the "Shutting Down" message. I'd appreciate any help anyone might offer to fixing this problem. Thanks
    Sloan7

I have had the same problem since I purchased my Zen Micro 2 months ago. It does not happen every time - perhaps /4 of the shutdowns hang. I have used the disk cleanup several times: it does not make much difference. (I still do the disk cleanup, though it may just be a superstition with me now.) I have let the shutdown go overnight with the external charger connected, in case the zen was just really busy -- no success. I have the latest firmware version. After these events [remove and reinsert battery], the library usually rebuilds within a minute or two.
This appears to be an oft encountered and easily reproducible problem.

  • Zen Micro WMP10 playl

please explain me how to create playlist that with mp0 that can work with my micro

You're not alone. Many of us are having the same problem with the v2 firmware. Some of us have added our system information to the following thread to assist Creative with diagnosing the problem:
    http://forums.americas.creative.com/...essage.id=7473
Unfortunately it has been a month since the firmware was first released, and there hasn't been any indication that Creative is going to release a patch, or is even acti'vely working on the issue. I'm losing my patience and will probably return my Zen Micro to Amazon before the return period expires. The Zen Micro is a great piece of hardware, so I'm very disappointed.

*The I/O operation has been aborted because of either a thread exit or an application request.
Does anyone know what the problem is? Im using Windows XP, running SP2, and using the second firmware (v.2. something) please help, im considering getting an ipod mini now cuz i've had so many freezing problems.

  • Zen micro shutdown while play

Had my zen for 3 weeks . Every 5-20mins will shutdown whilst in play mode , locked or unlocked , totally random time intervals .Powers up when you press power on and restarts where left off before .Reinstalled most recent hardware upgrad(29thDec) and software upgrades but still doing same.
Since upgrading hardware unable to sync using the Zen micro explorer software as will not recognize player as being connected . Can load music on simply by draggin and dropping into the music file directly but is a pain.
Think my player is the problem and needs to go back .any advice, tips etc?

Nobody can offer any thoughts on this?Bump

  • Trouble playing/pausing with Zen Micro touch

I am having a fairly peculiar (and frustating) issue with my new Zen Micro's touchpad. For me, the Play "button" (area) works only sporatically. Here's the symptoms: I can reliably press the Play/Pause button with my thumb, but I can't reliably press play with the tip of my finger. I NEED to be able to do this since I set the player on my desk at work and will need to quickly hit the Pause button if something comes up (read: if I actually have to work).
I have the latest firmware, so that isn't a solution for me and I have tried playing with different sensitivity settings. After playing around quite a bit, I have determined that the button requires something wide pressing down on it to work. The narrow tip of my finger doesn't work, but the (wider) side of my thumb or even 2 finger tips work great.
Has anyone experienced something similar to this? Is my player functioning normally? Any help is much appreciated.

i have the same problem. back, forward and volume control works fine. sometime much too good
but play, back and menu is only reacting sometimes for me.
and thats the second player i have. had the same prob with the first and got a new one from the vendor.
someone here could help out a little plz? can you all use the play button with the tip of your finger ?Message Edited by washi on 02-23-2005 0:47 AM

  • What was the last firmware version for the Zen Micro before M

I would like to know what was the last firmware version for the Zen Micro before the MTP firmware?
Please make sure you are 00% on this.
    Thankyou.

I think it does, but I'm not sure; since I wanted MTP, I only used .x firmware long enough to save the original Creative test files (with MediaSource, not ZMME) before upgrading to 2.x. And yes, I had to li've with 2..02's shorter battery life until 2.20.05 came out.
May I ask why you want to go back to .x firmware? The only thing that will get you is the ability to use it with Win98SE/2000/Me--but only if you can install Creative drivers on every PC you use it with. MTP requires WinXP SP or 2 and WMP 0, but doesn't need any Creative software at all to work. (Microsoft has made an MTP driver for Win98SE/2000/Me, but it requires customization and may not be supported by other software. I'm tinkering a bit with the customization part right now.)
There are other pitfalls in changing Micro firmware families, in either direction--you'll lose all the files on your Micro, you'll have to install a different ZMME (and I've heard non-MTP ZMME isn't quite as full-featured as MTP ZMME), and you'll need a new plug-in for MediaSource to work.

  • Who does not loose battery power when zen micro is o

I bought my zen micro only 2 days ago and it looses battery power when I turned it off. I just want to know if there are people that are not experiencing this problem. The reason I want to know this is becuase if a lot of people are not experiencing this problem then I could return it and get a new one.

You can search the forum instead of posting.
Just dl the new firmware, that should fix it, also Catherina-CL posted this , which could be helpful,

    Hi Everyone,
It has been reported by some of our customers that they have experienced reduced battery life after charging their Zen Micro. Our product development team has researched these reports and determined that the users may have experienced this after they plugged their Zen Micro into the AC adaptor that was already inserted into a wall socket with the AC power on. While this is not the conventional way to plug in a player for charging, we wanted to ensure our customers did not experience this problem, so we have developed a solution to address this which simply involves upgrading the Zen Micro's firmware. To update your Zen Micro just download the firmware update ( ZenMicro_PCFW_US__0_03_PDE.exe) to your computer and run it with your Zen Micro attached to your computer.....if you need assistance in doing this please contact our product support team and they will be happy to assist you. This new firmware also includes an enhancement to improve touch sensitivity, we recommend that all of our customers download this firmware update to enhance their Zen Micro experience.
You can download the file under Support > Download Drivers, then enter that filename under the Search By Filename option.

  • ZEN Micro- Loose connection with USB port while charg

Hello everyone, I just bought my Zen Micro today. However, the USB port is quite loose, I am able to shake the USB connection to my player. Is this normal?

It's normal for the cable to be a bit loose when plugged in, yeah. I shouldn't worry about it unless the connection starts being faulty, which I don't think it will.
If any of the actual player itself looks wobbly, though, you probably ought to get a replacement.

  • Some questions about Zen Micro before to buy

Hi all, i'm thinking to buy a Zen Micro mp3 player, so i'm searching for the Web reviews and news about the Micro to understand if it is good for me, because about 250 euro is an important money amuont to spend for me.
And now i have 2 doubts:
) I have read that firmware "ZenMicro_PCFW_L4_2_00_2_MTP.exe" can freeze the Micro or to make Windows Xp does not recognise it. Is it real?
    2) Will Zen Micro support the "mp3 pro" format in future firmware updates? It think "mp3 pro" is fantastic and has much more audio quality than wma o normal mp3 in very less space on disk.
Thanks to all people who will answer to me, excuse me for my imperfect english_
    archigius

    Archigius,
I have installed the version 2 firmware on several players and have yet to have run into any problems. I know there are people who have experienced them, but I think that the probability of this is low. Here are some suggestions on making sure it will work:
) Disable your antivirus before running the update. This really applies to all dri've/firmware updates.
    2) Turn off all of your player related software.
    3) Make sure you have Windows Media Player 0 and SP or higher installed
This is all you should have to do to make sure things go well.

  • Zen Micro shutdown prob

I got a 6GB Zen Micro for Christmas, and up until today I have been quite happy with it. Today, however, I think it may be sinking into irreparable damage.
The first thing that happened is it shut off, randomly. It had 3 bars of battery power, and was just sitting on my desk. As I tried to power it up again, it would power up, go to the screen I was at, minus the entire battery icon, and then shut down after about 4 seconds of operation. This happened several times, before it finally would not power up at all, despite me attempting removing the battery and reinserting it.
So next class, I tried again... no luck. Continued attempts... it powered up! With a battery icon at 3 bars. Then the icon disappeared and the player shut off. Powering it up again got the "Low battery" screen. Next class, it worked for about 0 minutes, and then randomly died again.
When I got home, I plugged it in to the computer to charge it. It wouldn't even work with the plug in, though in the few times it powered up with the battery icon it did have a charge or plug symbol over it. So I looked for troubleshooting... got into the recovery menu, just rebooted it. Worked, for a minute. Cleaned it up... did nothing. Reinstalled firmware... my PC crashed in the middle of it, though once it rebooted it managed to work fine without affecting the player. Except it still didn't work. Plugged it into my sister's AC charger for about 45 minutes... worked for a while. Continued to work on it, until dinnertime, when I plugged back into the AC charger... and again it worked for a very short while after. Plugged it into my laptop, worked fine, transferred all my songs off the player to the laptop, formatted the player, transferred the songs back. Worked fine during all that time, and then it crapped out again. Rebooted the player from the recovery menu, and its been sitting next to me playing fine while I've been writing this. So at least 0 minutes of function.
While I've been doing all this work with the battery, I've been able to smell a distinct odor of ozone. I don't know if that happens during normal operation or not, but I thought it was worth mentioning. The only thing I haven't yet tried is switching the battery with the one in my sister's player to see if its a battery or player problem, which I will be doing in the near future.
So, is there something I'm missing, or should I just return it and hope for one not inhabited by gremlins next time?

    AeonMagus,
It does sounds like the battery is faulty. Either the player is having problem charging the battery or the battery is losing its charge. Have you try charging the battery for a longer period of time 3-4 hours. It would be a good idea to try using your sister battery on your player and vice versa.

  • Zen Micro - Loose Headphone Connect

I bought a Zen Micro last december and I love it.
Unfortunately it has recently developed a problem. It seems that there is a problem with the headphone socket as I keep losing sound volume/stereo quality etc as if the headphones are not seated correctly in the socket. On investigation, if I move the headphone socket only very slightly (as happens in normal use) I lose the sound quality. A quick waggle of the cable and the sound usually restores only to go again later. As you can imaging this is extremely annoying.
To me this is a hardware problem with the socket itself and will only be rectified by me sending the player back under warranty to be fixed.
Has anyone else experienced this problem and found any other solution other than sending the player back under warranty?

Yep, quite a few people have had this (just type "headphone socket" into search to see).
Depending on where you are (you don't give any location information in your profile) you will either be under the parts only (e.g. USA) or full warranty (e.g. in Europe). Contact Creative Support to return your player for a replacement.
