Zen Micro Photo- Stuck in Recovery + ot

I used my Micro on Thursday, no problem. Went to use it on Monday and it was dead...figured I left it on repeat and the battery died, so Irecharged it. Well, still had minor problems (very slow response of unit) so I reformatted the player and everything seemed fine. I plugged it into my computer and now it looks like it's charging, even though it may or may not be plugged in via usb AND it's stuck in Recovery mode. Oh, and my computer doesn't recognize it as being plugged in.
Breakdown:
Stuck in recovery.
Looks like it's charging (lightning bolt flashing in top right corner) even if not plugged in.
Computer does not recognize that unit is plugged in.
Please help, this is the first time in over a year of owning it that I had a problem with my Micro.

  • SOLUTION - Zen Micro Photo Stuck in Recovery M

    My Zen Micro Photo got stuck in recovery mode after I followed Creative Labs Technical Support suggestions. They had me do a Clean Up, a Format All a Reload Firmware and a Reboot. After doing this my unit was stuck in Recovery Mode. They then had me load the latest firmware. v .3.0, from a PC connection and I found that it worked fine, but doing the above steps put me back into Recovery Mode hell. So I did some testing.
    I loaded firmware version .20.0 from my PC thinking the problem might be in the firmware version. Doing the steps they had asked me to do caused me to be in Recovery Mode Hell, so again I loaded firmware from my PC.
    This time I went through each item one at a time and rebooted after each. Clean Up/Reboot, Format ALL/Reboot and Reload Firmware/Reboot. They all booted normally except when I did a Reload Firmware.
    Next I loaded firmware v .3.0 to my unit again and did the same test. Again it put me in Recovery Mode Hell after I selected Reload Firmware from the Recovery Mode screen.
    Conclusion DO NOT LOAD FIRMWARE FROM RECOVERY MODE. If you have to load firmware at all, do it from your PC connection. I'm going to copy this into the VERY LONG message I have had with Creative Labs Technical Support over the past 5 days and let them know what I have found. I hope this helps others to fix their Micro Photo.

    I am having a similar problem. I am stuck in recovery mode and my PC won't recognize the MP3 player at all? I have rebooted, cleaned up, formatted, pulled the batt, etc. Finally I pulled the battery for longer than 30 seconds and that seemed to fix the problem. We will see.

    I was getting in my truck at a gas station and looked down and my zen was on, but i turned it off , i go to push buttons it wont light up on go off or anything but the power buttong light was glowing so i took the battery out and put it back in, now it will not come out of recoverymode its just stuck in it
    what do i need to do, i've taken out the battery, restarted it many times but nothig works, it wont even let me dock it and sync the songs to my computer so i can format it

    i did, i wnt to erase firm warm and the screen went funky and came back up and i then went ro put it on and it didnt work then i formated it, cleaned disk and reset firmware again and it still didnt work

    My Zen Micro Photo gets stuck in the bootscreen. When I turn my Zen on it says "Creative" and after a couple of seconds "Zen Micro Photo". While "Zen Micro Photo" is in my screen it does nothing. I tried to take out the battery and turn it on again, but still nothing. Only after a couple of hours it starts working again.
    It als doesn't connect properly with Windows XP.
    The problem started a couple of days ago when I activated the removable harddri've mode on the Zen to connect it to Windows 2000.
    Should a reload of the firmware help?

    my creatice zen micro froze on the CREATIVE screen, i have got it to recovery mode but i am overseas i dont have my usb cable with me and i do not want to lose my data as i dont go home for three months. If i format will it fix the problem without me having to reinstall the software? What should i do?

    Thanks for the replies regarding the recovery mode but have already done disc cleanup and nothing has happened am i running out of options? is reformat the only option? If i plug in my mp3 to the computer can i transfer all of my songs onto the computer, then reformat so i dont lose all the data completey? I dont have the songs on the computer, transferred them straight from cds.

    Just recently, my zen micro photo has been staying in recovery mode. I have tried all of the four options available? to me in recovery mode. .) Clean up 2.) Formatt All 3.) Reload Firmware? 4.) Reboot. When I try "Reload Firmware". It doesn't really "reload". All it does is erase the current firmware, which it has done several times. My computer doesn't really realize the player. It doesn't allow me to acess my songs, which have already been deleted. It says the "Player is not connected". At first, I thought I needed to charge. I charged it to maximmum. The battery is "FULL". Also, the firmware update doesn't recognize the player either. Whenever I select the reboot option, my player reboots to recovery mode. This does no good, as I have tried all of the available options in recovery mode, and they have done no good. Your help would be greatly appreciated.   • Zen Micro Photo Recovery Mode Problem !! Help needed plea

    I just purchased a white zen micro photo last week. As I was putting music onto my ZMP, my computer ( Dell Windows XP ) froze. I disconnected my player and when I went to turn on my ZMP, I found out that it went into Recovery Mode. I tried all the possible ways that it listed to do.
    Clean Up (when I pressed that one, nothing happened .. the screen didn't even change)</LI>
    Format All (When I pressed that one, the screen seemed to .. freeze .. but it had a smear of lines .. ?)</LI>
    Reload Firmware (I never had firmware on my ZMP to begin with)</LI>
    Reboot (It turned off and It turned back on like it's supposed to but when it turned back on, it was in recovery mode again)</LI>
    My ZMP does not even turn off. This is wasting the battery so please help me. I have emailed Creative but they have not replyed yet.

    You must have had firmware on there if it worked, but "reload firmware" actually erases the firmware. It's a badly named function.
    Unfortunately though you've tried all you can as a user. The player sounds faulty and you ought to contact Creative support for a replacement.

    Hi all,?My Creative Zen micro Photo 8gb has gone a bit mad. It had a firmware update, and then wouldn't work. SO I hooked it up to the PC and nothing was happeneing. It tried to rebuild the library, but froze. So I followed tech suppourt, and formatted it, and lost all my music, and it wont do anything now. It gets to the Recovery Mde Screen, and does the following:?Clean Up: - Says it's cleaning up, but does nothing really. Format All: - Says formatting, and does so. Reload Firmware: NOW, here's the interesting one, I hook it up to download the firmware... AND the PC recognises it's plugged in, but the firmware application doesn't.     Mine too! It completely froze to Recovery mode, I can't even turn it off! I had to take off the batteries and when I open it, it's stuck in there. I had it replaced by Creative Labs. Btw, I commend their tech support. The email support is fast and very responsi've. A RMA was issued to me and they were able to replace it in a matter of days. Then my 2nd player (refurbished one,what I got back) was working for 7 days when it froze again. then it says rebuilding library or something..but it won't finish loading. It was stuck to that page, cannot turn off, had to take off batteries again. I did this 5 times, since it failed to reload the library. Afterwards, it displayed Hardware Failure.
    Now, I'm currently waiting for their email feedback since I reported the problem again.
    My advice, let them know. Hope you can work yours out.

    <FONT color=#6666ff>ok sooo.... i am an idiot..............one night after coming home i was running to catch a ride with my friend and on the way.....my zen micro photo fell outta my pocket and into the grass..............well the next morning i obviously couln't find it so i got in my car and drove to the place that i got the ride from- well i founf it in the grass. So i was real happy that i found it until i got home and all it does when i turn it on is go to that stupid recovery mode-----and it wont go any where else.......................it doesn't look damaged at all. UGH it makes me real mad some one PLEASE HELP and gimme some suggestions!!!!!ASAP

    Hey i think i know what your problem is. What Operating System are u running on your computer? (Windows XP, ME etc) And also, if running XP do you have service pack installed? If you dont have service pack installed, you cant use your player. The system requirements can be found on the back of the zen micro photo box. goodluck!!

    a way to make windows detect it is too try and run add hardware wizrd in controlpanel also if u make theplayer gointo recovermode then connect it to ur pc windows USUallydetects it as a plaer in recue mode i think well try if u dont know how toget there i think that u hold down the play/pause button er i mean first take out the batery and then hold down the play/pause botton while u plug the usb into ur pc and i think itll go into recovery mode and windwosshould detect it then and thats when you caninstall the firmware using the executable file and if something goes wrong try it again and usually itll work

    hello!?my zen micro photo started acting weirdly lately: even when the player's battery was fully charged, the player would shut itself down automatically a second or two after being turned on. i managed to access the recovery options and do a cleanup, but the problem was not solved. after, it started telling me that the battery was empty even after being charged for hours on my computer. (and the battery is only a year old or so). then?a few hours later, it even failed to turn on at all, and has stayed like that since. i could at least access the recovery console, so i tried formatting the dri've, but there was no improvement. i then tried to use the recovery utility found on your website, which updated the firmware to version 2.3 however, there was no difference, and the player still doesn't work. finally, my computer won't even detect the player anymore (although i have made no changes to the computer's configuration), and it won't even charge it, since it is not detected. (the player doesn't show any sign when it is plugged) so now, all i can get from the mp3 player is a "low battery" warning, and only when i try to access the recovery console (otherwise, nothing happens). any ideas?thank you !

    just an update:i tried the "caveman repair method" (http://forums.creative.com/creativel...cending&page=3)and it ... worked... partially...at least the player now boots, although only to display a low battery warning...BUT as soon as i plug it to my computer, it crashesand i already tried the rear usb ports, no better, as well as 3 different computers, no improvment neithersooooo... anything else?maybe roasting it next time would help lol

    Sounds like your database is corruptor the dri've itself is failing & you'll need to format the drive to be able to use the player. Unfortunately you won't be able to recover what's on the player. If you have the wallcharger use it to charge the battery. If that battery is the battery is more than 3yrs. old I would recommend purchasing a new one as the life span is about to that limit. The MicroPhoto will run off AC power without a battery.

    BEFORE I CONTINUE, REFERRING TO THE KNOWLEDGE BASE DOES NOT WORK FOR ME, I TRIED THE STEPS BUT THEY SIMPLY DON'T WORK.
    HERE IS THE PROBLEM:
    YESTERDAY, I RECEIVED MY ZEN MICRO PHOTO BLACK 8GB in the mail, and was able to get the charging started through my computer after installing the required software (mediasource, media player, wmp 9.5 codec, etc). Before I started the charging, I connected my player's USB cable to the back of my pc. Windows XP w/SP2 prompts that it 'found new hardware.' I go ahead and check in my computer if the player would be able to be accessed. I also confirmed with Creative's mediasource software, and it claims that 'no player was detected.' I did the same in windows media player 0, and says that no hardware was detected. I confirmed to make sure that the USB cable was properly connected, and it was. I tried all the ports and tried other devices through them, and they were able to be successfully detected and used, (i.e; web cam). I don't understand why my creative zen micro photo would not be detected by the software included. Windows is requiring me to install some sought of driver for the player, but I already installed all the required utilities and codecs. I believe it is charging and is detected by windows but not as a removable storage, etc, just 'FOUND NEW HARDWARE', and then no drivers found even through the CD creative provided me. I am also fearing that the battery is taking a long time to charge. This morning I saw that the player was on, but was still charging(I assume). I decided to charge while the player was turned off. Hopefully, now it will be fully charged while the player remains off. I will check when I get home. In the mean time, would some one please assist and respond to me for resolving this situation ASAP for the detection of the player. Thank you. Just to add on, I also attempted for a firmware update, and the utility said it was not able to detect the player either, so I wasn't able to even complete a firmware update.     I sadly am very unhappy with the ZEN Microphoto 8. I was planning on leaving on a trip in the morning and found that suddenly my laptop no longer will recognize my device. I hasve been using the device for several months now with no problems at all, unitl this afternoon. It went into recovery mode and no matter what I tried I could not get it out.
    I was finally able to unlock the unit by connecting the unit to my desktop. I was then able to install the firmware update. But now the unit will not work on my laptop at all. All of my media is on my laptop. I have tried several cables to no avail. I am sure that someone is going to mention the suggestion that the device not be used on a laptop, however I find it frustrating that after so much time the unit suddenly does not operate. I tried all of the suggestions in the support section. And it seems truly sad that this might just be due to the cinnection to athe laptop, considering the number of people that now use these as their primary PCs.
    If any suggestions can be provided as to the cause of this problem I would love to get it fixed.
