Zen micro play for sure firmware and win

I have a zen micro and want to download audio files from audible.com and i tunes, but i need the play for sure firmware installed to be able to play the files. The problem i have is that to upgrade to that firmware i need to be running win xp, but my pc is running win 2k. Once my zen micros firmware?has been upgraded i can download the creative legacy os software to allow me to put my files on the ZM, it is the upgrade that is causing me problems. Is there any way around this or have i got to do the upgrade on a pc running win xp?thanks in advance?simes

Ok, first things first:
Because of Apple's marketing games iTunes WILL NEVER sync with ANY DAP other than iPods so no luck there.
Furthermore, check if the Micro has Audible support and if so, make sure it ONLY has support with the v2.xx.xx firmwares.
If and only if it does then proceed with the update.

I think that the best thing you could do is enable the MTP support on your Win2K system BEFORE trying the update. In that case it will probably work fine.

Steps to Installing Zen Touch w/ Play For Sure Firmware on Windows

I don't know about the rest of you, but I'm personally very frustrated with my Zen Touch at the moment. I've updated to the Play For Sure firmware successfully, and when I plug it into my Desktop it's registered as a portable media player, and it shows the name of my Zen Touch. However, what's next? I've downloaded 3 apps from Creative - Media Source 5, Software Suit for PFS-enabled device, and PFS plugin for Media Source 5 - which one do I install first?
I assumed it to be Creative Media Source Organizer 5 and went ahead to install that one first, but the installation hangs at the part where it says: detecting installed products.
Anyway, I just hope someone can post a detailed step-by-step guide to fully enabling my Zen Touch on Windows XP. Thanks!

Plays-For-Sure compatibility and the Jukebox Z

I signed up for the new Yahoo service today and I've got an original Zen from a little over two years ago. Will Creative release firmware to support Plays-For-Sure?

Sounds to me like we're mostly out of luck. I emailed support about my 5 mo. old zen xtra and asked when they would support "play for sure" so I could use Yahoo's new service and this is the reply I got; "Dear Gary, Thank you for contacting Creative Technical Support. We have not heard of a release date for play for sure firmware for the Zen Xtra All I can suggest is keep watching our website for any updates I have not heard if there is even going to be any released We have a beta version for the Play for sure for our Zen Micro once this is no longer a beta version they may release others. Plays For Sure Firmware h

Hi i am currently an owner of a 6gig white Zen Micro and i love it to pieces. In order for me to use Napster with it i have to download "plays for sure" firmware. But the problem lies here, i was an owner of a silver 5gig micro a few months back until the famous problem with headphone socket and that one had the firmware downloaded then and I hated it! It put all my music into subfolders on the device and left huge blank spaces on the lists instead of the <unkown> part. I dont want that hapening again.
Will that happen again or is there a way of keeping the old functions of my new player the same and still use napster?

This is the same problem I am having only now it is worse. It completly froze with error meesage of firmware error and wouldnt be recognized by the pc he I plugged it in. So I searched the boards and found info about safe mode. when I went into safe mode and went thru the steps for clean up it stayed in firmware error. I did each of hte steps till it left me with no other choice but to reformat and redownload the firmware. It looked as tho everything was loading ok but it has been connected for over 2 hours and still sitting and says upgradig fimware but not moving anywhere. I am not sure what to do next? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I too would like to see Playsforsure compatibility with this player. I've been scouring the net and it seems that this player once was Playsforsure compatible as I can see it has the Playsforsure logo on the back of the box. It's also still mentioned in the manual. Whats changed since then?
This player meets all the requirements that Microsoft need for it to be compatible. Come on creative release a firmware update!

Zen neeon play for sure compatibility why was the thread closed/delete

About a week ago a thread asking why the neeon didn't support play for sure compatibility was on the forum.
For some reason this has now been deleted and I would like to know why. Deleting that thread has to be a very childish attempt to silence a customer complaint about a product, have you ever heard of consumer rights?

Play for Sure for the Zen Xtra slow song transf

Since I updated the firmware for the Zen 60gig xtra to support the Play For Sure encryption, it has very slow song transfers. I am trying to transfer about 4500 songs. It does the first 000 normal then it is like 5 mins for each one after that. So it takes like 4 days to transfer. Is there some kind of patch or driver change I need to make?

Just an update, transfer is still goin good, so all of you that are having those hangs and slow downs this 3 hot fixes posted in this forum under the MTP Thread seem to work for me. However, being a Regional IT Manager I know that what works for one computer doesnt always apply. I remember seeing the IMPORTANT Note just before I downloaded the firmware and I thought, naw... I dont need any updates, I do my Microsoft Updates so im cool, but the hotfixes mentioned are not CRITICAL updates so you have to manually apply them. In my opinion this is not really a Creative issue since they are depending on the files from the Play For Sure protocal and those are coming from Microsoft, so they have to kind of rely on whats out there and unfortunately for us poor *******s to update. I am wondering if they can include the hotfixes in their install? SOmething that would detect to see if the hotfix is present and if not, install? Just a thought, or at least prompt you to go get the hotfix first then install.

I recently downloaded the plays for sure firmware upgrade for my zen sleek photo. But when I plug it into my usb port the player shows its connected but the software doesn't. I am running vista on my laptop.

When you uninstalled it and reinstalled it did the computer recognize it's If it did not do you know how to reset the player to recovery /rescue mode do a clean up & reboot from the recovery mode. What driver to use with Plays for Sure Zen touch

Hi, I've upgraded my zen touch to 2.0.05 in the past.
Now I'm using a new computer and I need to install drivers for the Zen Touch.
The drivers on the CD do not recognise my Zen Touch, the latest drivers only support zen touch with firmware below 2.00.00, and to my knowledge, Microsoft has discontinued the use of Plays for Sure devices.
Further more the bundle update for Plays for Sure device only works if it can detect the Zen Touch in the first place, which it cannot.
So does anyone have a working driver for Zen Touch firmware 2.00.00 and above, thanks.

actually I do have the mtp drivers installed, but the interface is not as good as the Nomad Explorer. But when I try to install the real drivers for Explorer, it tells me that the Zen is undetectable, even though it clearly is plugged in and seen by the computer.

Have a Zen Micro (6GB) - Lost Software CD and Firmware update confuses me. Please he

I bought my Zen Micro about 7 months ago and have been using it fine until recently formatted my computer and realized I've lost my software cd (the one that comes with the player).
I tried downloading the Creative MediaSource Organizer/Player (version 3.30.2) and updating the firmware (thereby loosing all the songs I had saved in there. Ugh.) in my Zen Player and in the beginning MediaSource still wouldn't pick up my Creative Player. Then, I don't know why, it now works...but it works like a normal External HardDri've or a PenDi've would! It not longer has that menu thing (where there's a list of artist and albums) at the left side but simply folders under the Creative Player.
Does anyone know where I can get the old firmware and download the required software? I greatly prefer the way my player worked before I updated the firmware/software and I would like to just have that back even if it doesn't have as much features or whatever came with the upgrade. (iTunes or something. Has no idea what that is.)
Also, does Creative have a Service Center in Malaysia (specifically Kuala Lumpur) and can anyone tell me where it is or give me the phone number to call? I'm still under my warranty but this site doesn't list a number to call although they say they give Telephone Support until the warranty expires.

LOL. I've sent in my player. FINALLY found the Service Center (for those in KL who want to know, it's in Berjaya Amoda, behind Low Yat and opposite Times Square) after asking the shop I bought the player from.
And the guy who I talked to called their HQ or whatever and said that neither of the messages I sent (I sent 2; one shortly after I started this thread) were recorded/received on their end although I DID get the "Your message has been sent" page after clicking on the 'submit' button. And yeah, I used this email too. *confused* Maybe Creative doesn't work with Mozilla Firefox (the browser I'm using)? I think that's kind of lame, though, because FireFox is like practically as big as EI now and it's more user-friendly (the tabs are uber cool IMHO). Unless Creative has some sort of problem with Mozilla...

Yeah, I did download the PlayForSure plugin (although I have no idea what it's for) and MediaSource STILL picked up my Micro as something like a pendri've.
Never mind, though. The guy I talked to - never got his name... - said that once you've upgraded the firmware to the latest (which is the one that needs all these weird plugins and makes the device an MTP [I THINK that's what it's called] device) you can't change the firmware back to the old one unless they send it in. So I'm sending it in. And I think they'll replace the software CD for me too, so that's all good.

Play for sure device st

A few months ago i installedfirmeware for the play for sure thing hoping it would help me to use the remaining memory on my zen touch 20gb but when i did it worked fine until i looked at my player and noticed there were doubled songs sung by the same artist but i like my player tidy and i want to no is there and organizer that works with pfs and not the old organizer.

i have plays for sure software on my Zen Micro and i would like to remove it so i can use the original programs that came with the mp3 player. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You should still be able to use the software that came with the player but you have to download the PFS versions that are on the Micro downloads page.

Zen Micro: "play count" weird work

hello everybody!
I was wondering why some of the songs, rarely heard by me, havethe same number of "play count" that the often heard ones. I've checked it by loading an album and before playing it, I Iooked upthe "play count" of the second song in the list. Then I started to play the firstsong in the album. While the song was playing I checked both "playcounts". In the first song (currently played) Zen Micro correctly addeda next number to the counter, but surprisingly the second song(not played yet) had it the same - an increased counter!
I come to a conclusion that Zen Micro increases the "play count" in thenext song even though it's not currently playing. I noticed thatwhen preceding song is quite large, ZM doesn't increase a "play count"in a next song (while the preceding song is playing). I think it'sconnected with a size of the buffer and faulty working play countsystem.
I've hit upon an idea and I loaded one very short song (5sec). I set the"Repeat Track" mode and played this song. After a few timessong had played I stopped it and checked our "play count". I wasshocked, the counter had enormous number (something over 00)!
Have you got the same problem? Is there any solution to that?
I use 5Gb Zen Micro with ..0 firmware.

I've definitely seen mention of play count not being correct before. If this is a bug it needs to be logged with support directly as well. I can't stress enough how important it is for everyone with a bug to log it directly with support, as often the number of support cases prejudice how likely a bug is to get attention.

Play for sure mediasource prob

I currently updated both my zen xtra and mediasource to "play for sure", and now find when I run mediasource my zen only shows the album files whereas it used to show the artist, album and tracks in separate columns. is there any way to rectify this?

For PlaysForSure devices, MediaSOurce, Zen Xtra Media Explorer and Windows Media Player will all display the tracks in folders and file structure instead of by Genre/Artist/Album structure,
