Zen Micro - Player not connected - Firmware problem - no FAQ hel

Hi!
My Zen Micro made problems by turning on but anyway it started sometimes to the mainmenu where I could hear music. So I wanted to upgrade the firmware. By copying new firmware in the past there were no problems. For sure I cleaned the Micro up. I formatted it and wanted to upgrade the firmware...
Now it starts with the screen "firmware problem" to the recovery menu and my firmare is now "v0.0.65". When I cable it to the PC via USB it gets found as a portabel device with the correct name "Creative Zen Micro". And the screen turns from the recovery mode to the screen when the Zen Micro is connected to the PC. So there is the paper in the middle with two arrows around. And on the top the caption is again "recovery mode". When I touch the up and down touchscreen the paper and the arrows disappear, but the caption remains.
But by starting the firmare there is the message that the player was not found. And WMP can't find it with the synchronization mode...and so on. Nothing can find it except the working place. When opening the "Creative Zen Micro" menu ich see "Storage Media" with 20MB. I can format it but nothing changes.
When I'm watching the specifications of the "Creative Zen Micro" the firmare version is "2.2.02_0.00.65".
I reinstalled all creative software (including the registry entrys !) and rolled back WMP.
But nothing goes right. Every FAQ which I followed doesn't repair my Zen Micro
I also used a laptop and this didn't help too.
I invested the hole day the day before yesterday, but I stuck.
I hope somebody can help me.

-Windows Media Player COMPLETELY uninstalled
-in Device Manager ALL USB-Controllers uninstalled (don't worry about non-controlling your mouse or keyboard -> will install themselves after uninstalling or after restart)
-restart
-and TSCHAKAAA...Player was found and firmware could be installed (i installed for the first time again the 2.2 version. message was "installation failing" but it worked...anyway i reinstalled version . and the message was 'yeah. it works')
-Player works!
I hope this report can help some people.

  • New Zen Micro will NOT connect!

    Hello all,
I just bought a Creative Zen Micro player. I installed the software, charged the battery to full and guess what.....the Creative software does not recognize my player as being connected. And yes, I've checked device manager to see if it appears. It does, with the correct name and everything. So what is the problem? I've read other messages on this forum about this problem but it usually seems to be a problem after installing a new version of firmware. But this hasn't been done in my case because I haven't been able to get the stupid thing connected in the first place.
I'm confused as to what to do next. I've tried resetting it by removing the battery and then holding the power button but this hasn't worked either. I first was using a usb hub to connect but after reading that you should avoid this, I tried plugging directly into a usb port on my machine. That also didn't make a difference. I've unistalled the player from the device manager about 5 times and reinstalled it. I've tried reinstalling the creative software/drivers about 5 times and no resolution. I've followed instructions from the Creative website step by step as the proper way to install the software but nothing works. I'm extremely disappointed to bring home a product that does not work out of the box. Oh, and yes I have Windows XP Pro so the OS isn't the issue here. I guess I will just return this useless product unless someone else has another idea that I could try. I'm really at my wits end.
Thanks for listening to this short novel,
    Drawn-a-Blank

The software that will not recognize the player is the Zen Media Explorer and Media Source. I'm not sure what firmware I have and I can't check since I'm not at home. But, I can't install new firmware even if I wanted too since it won't connect. However, I have downloaded the lastest drivers but I don't think I've installed the lasted version of Zen Media Explorer, so I guess that is one other option.

  • Zen: Micro....Firmware Problem, Stuck in Recovery m

I got my Zen Micro in September and I have never had a problem with it until now. I connected it to my computer to charge up this morning since the battery was running low. Then this afternoon when I got home, I turned it on and it quickly flashed a screen saying "Firmware Problem" and then it goes straight to Recovery Mode. It will not exit Recovery Mode. I have tried redoing the Firmware, but it will not allow me to.
This is the first problem I have had with the player and I have never done anything with it except upload music and play music....no trying to download new applications or software, etc. It has even been quite a while since I have put any new/took any old music off the player.
Has any one else had this problem? Can someone offer some advice? Also...would this problem qualify under the warranty for the player? Thanks!

    [size="6">It Works
!!! Thanks so much for your assistance. After reading all the replies and related messages I finally gave up everything and did a search for everything that had to do with Zen Xtra and deleted it.....deleted it from Windows Device Manager, Windows Media Player, Real Player, Audible Manager, all files that had "Zen" in it....gone. I emptied my recycle bin, unpluged the player, rebooted my computer, let Windows find a driver for a "portable device" (I had already rolled Windows Media Player AND the WMP Runtime to version 0 prior to posting to the forum), downloaded the most current driver and firmware for the Zen Xtra, installed them and it works!?The really sad thing is, all this time (and yes, my time is worth something), aggrivation and stress could have been avoided had Creative seen fit to make one little note on their web site where the download is. All they would have to do is put a note in the description that you *must* have Windows Media Player version 0, that it will not work with version . I'm really disappointed in the Creative support...that really sucks. But I really do want to thank you for your assistance. You saved me from denting my wall with this thing and saved me from having to replace it. Thanks,Trax

  • "player not connected" (it is connected!)... and no firmware n

Here are the hardware & software infos:
NOMAD Jukebox Zen Xtra (40gb) model #DAP-HD00
    Creative Media Source [CMS] 3.30.2
Windows XP Professional 5. (Build 2600.xpsp_sp2_gdr.070227-2254 : Service Pack 2)
    Windows Media Player [WMP] .0.572.5230
    connects via USB 2.0
On the Zen it has no firmware but displays menu under the heading "Rescue Mode v.3 / Boot v.4, HW v0.0."
    Upon plugging Zen into USB...
    - On the Zen itself, it displays picture indicating connected status
    - Windows recognises pops up a message asking what to do with it (sync with WMP, take no action, explore, etc)
    - In Device Manager, it says: "working properly"
    - In WMP under Sync tab, it says: "Select files to synchronize"
Problem in a nutshell: Software thinks the player is not connected even though it is. There is no firmware on the hardware, & I can't put any on because of the connection issue.
And here is the problem, in more detail:
It started when I upgraded to Windows XP (from 2000). The software still works great for ripping mp3s, but I can't put any of these mp3s onto the Zen.
I'd plug it in & there would be a message in the corner of the screen saying "NOMAD Jukebox 2/3/Zen detected: Organize Now". I'd click on it but within CMS it would then say "Player is not connected", & the same for WMP & Windows Explorer.
I tried uninstalling & reinstalling from the CD that came with the Zen, but nothing changed.
So I went to your website & downloaded some update files. I was able to update to CMS 3.30.2, but 5.0.38 wouldn't work due to "player not connected" (though it was). I updated to firmware .20.08, but still the same problems were occurring. So I tried the firmware 2.0.03 in order to get "PlaysForSure", & it wouldn't work because of "other applications" no matter how many I closed (including turning of "Detection" mode in CMS & ending all "CT*" processes). So I decided to do it in Windows Safe Mode since that's less programs running. This worked halfway, but Safe Mode didn't want me to install new hardware on it so it stopped. Back in Normal Mode, it finished installing the player as a "Windows Portable Device"/"MTP". But, in both Normal & Safe Mode it won't install any firmware because the "player is not connected".
By the way I have also tried numerous USB ports & cables, with no difference in results.
Thanks in advance for any help!
PS. I tried e-mailing customer support via the web form, but immediately got "undergoing site maintenance" error message.

Hm. No I didn't. Which article are you referring to I used this one - http://www.microsoft.com/windows/win...ionofthePlayer - but it doesn't say anything about registry keys.
If you mean the security changes in registry referred to here - http://ask.americas.creative.com/SRVS/CGI-BIN/WEBCGI.EXE?New,Kb=ww_english_add,U={B8F6030-DA4F-D3-94F4-00500463020E},Company={CEAE26D-879-4C00-AC9F-03BC258F7B70},d=3025443648,VARSET=ws:http://us.creative.com,case=0053 - then I have done that.
I tried searching the forums for "windows media player" & "registry keys", couldn't find anything else. (PS: the search engine isn't very good...)
But it seems you are referring to something else; please point me in the right direction.

  • Zen Micro freezing on connect

    Hi
I just bought my Zen Micro today and had no problems with it at first. I charged it until it was fully charged and then plugged it into my computer. It was detected by the computer and everything seemed to be working well. I ran Media Explorer and imported some music into my Zen Micro. I disconnected my Zen Micro from the computer and tried out the music. Everything was fine.
So I decided to plug it back into my computer and import some more music. The Zen Micro was again detected. I run Media Explorer again but this time it indicates that the player isn't plugged in properly. At this time my Zen Micro had froze. So I took out the battery and tried it again. I plugged it into my computer and ran Media Explorer and I got the same result.
So I tried the Clean Disk method and rebooted. It still wouldn't work. I tried to download the firmware update but when I connected my Zen Micro to the computer and tried updating, the firmware program would indicate that my Zen Micro could not be detected even though Windows detected it. My Zen would also freeze up.
So this time I tried formatting it from the same menu with the Clean Disk option. It still didn't work. So I tried using the different USB ports on my computer and it still didnt work. So I went over to my brother's computer and sadly I got the same result. So I tried downloading the updated version of the Media Explorer. Even then I still got the same result.
Can someone please help me~? I really don't want to have to return this lovely player because I got the last Limited Edition box at the store I bought it at. ThanksMessage Edited by hakuto on 0-03-2005 06:38 AM

Has anyone come up with a solution to this problem? I too have ran into a brick wall where the Zen Micro will crash whenever connected to a PC (or mac at that), but will not crash when connected to the AC adaptor. This happens after multiple disk cleanups, formats, and even a firmware reload, although the problem still remains and now I cannot even load a firmware to the player. I also tried using another USB to Mini USB cable I have lying around, only to the same results.
Please help ASAP so I can finish this review...

  • Zen Micro MTP not recognized? Solution in he

So, after scouring the forums here and Google in search for a reason why my MTP enabled Zen Micro wasn't being recognized in a fresh WinXP install. Well here's the solution everybody.
    Try installing this:
    http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;8922
I noticed that the player isn't recognized by drivers from the net or the Zen Micro CD (They're both the same anyways). The reason why is because the Device ID for the Zen Micro with the MTP firmware is different (USB\VID_04E&PID_430\00525530038FF3). If you open up the .inf file used to install this player, the Device ID is not in there.
I had another XP install on another HDD which recognized the Zen Micro and noticed that only a single file was being used for the drivers: wpdusb.sys.A search on Google brought me to the Microsoft KB page. I installed that patch and poof instant recognition.
I also believe this issue could be resolved if you install the latest Windows Media Player 0 available. I had it installed, but somehow that file wasn't installed and the update provided it for me.
    I hope this helps somebody~! =)

The only other suggestion to what the problem could be is a a software conflict of the driver and current software on your system that is interferring with the recognizing of your player. I had the same problem happen, and I tried my Micro on three different computers, and the Micro worked, instantly, and my Zen use to work on my computer before an upgrade.
Somewhere in between of any other updates of software on the computer, there must be a conflict. My player will become recognizable once in a blue moon, which also leads to the conclusion of software conflict, or possibly IRQ issue.
Maybe the latest driver just released may fix the issues of eliminating if it doesn't cause any conflicts with other softwares that are on your system for your Micro to be recognized.

  • Zen Micro as a portable HardDisk: PROBLEM WITH BIG FI

    Hello,
i own a Zen Micro 5 GB, firmware is 2..02.
When i tried to put a DIVX-movie on it, to take it to another computer, the file (around 700MB) was put succesfully on the Zen Micro's harddisk, but when i tried to copy it to other computers FROM the Zen, it failed, giving an error about insufficient memory. (on the zen i suppose, because this error came on different, good computers). Also, smaller files (like mp3) give no problems with this.
IS THE ZEN MICRO ABLE NOT ONLY TO STORE LARGE FILES, BUT TO COPY THEM AS WELL, because using it as a portable harddisk was one of my main reasons for choosing this product.
Or is my product faulty? Or firmware?
Thank you for reactions, (others who experience this?), suggestions or solutions!
    Greetings!

  • Zen Vision M not connecting

?I've searched through everything I could find here and tried them all, to no avail. Here's what's happened. My Zen Vision M (30 Gb) wouldn't start when connected to 3 different PCs I use it with. I figured it needed firmware update or something, so I tried that, but all update tools say I need to connect the Zen. I tried clean up and formatting all to no avail. Same not connected issue. Then I searched through the forum and saw the exclamation point in device manager issue, so I uninstalled and then plugged it back in. No more exclamation point and it shows up in device manager, but none of the firmware update options recognize the Zen is connected (or Media Player 0 or ). Device manager says it's operating fine, but Zen Media Explorer, MP3 recovery tool, and Media player do not recognize it as connected. Since it's older, all Creative said was EOSL... Are there things I haven't tried?

Re: Zen Vision M not connecting,Thanks, I had thought I'd tried everything, but as it turns out, one laptop I was using that I thought had Media Player 0 had . I don't think my player was ever exposed to 0, but I rolled back one on a laptop to 0 and then tried the firmware updater I had saved on that laptop and it worked! I'm back in business!? Now am reloading about 25 Gb of music, but that's a pain I can deal with. I tried the different cords and as for OS, one is Vista, one XP Media Center, and one XP. All are up-to-date with service packs etc. I had just updated Norton 360 and I read somewhere that it can mess up USB ports, so that may have started all the fun. In the end, thanks to all in these forums as I never would have thought of rolling back Media Player and the other things I did. Kudos to all....

  • Zen Micro constantly FREEZES during FIRMWARE UPGRADE - totally bricked!

    Hey,
It's just like it says. My Zen Micro currently has no firmware besides the recovery OS because I chose "reload firmware."? I try to upgrade to both versions of the Zen Micro firmware (.x and 2.x) and as soon as my computer gets started and the Zen Micro has the little "data exchange" icon on there, the computer and Zen Micro hang. The progress bar gets nowhere and it's the Micro that's frozen, not the computer or the firmware upgrade program (I'm a software engineer, I know if it's the program freezing, and it is NOT).
How in blazes is this happening? How can I stop my Micro from freezing? It's all so confusing!
By the way, stats about the PC used:
    OS: Windows XP Sp2
    Windows Media Player 0 installed
    USB 2.0 ports

I have exactly the same issue. Just tried to run the v.x to v2.x firmware upgrade and its been in recovery mode ever since. I tried to run the clean up / format / reload firmware option but it didn't work it just keeps coming back to the recovery mode. Anyone know how to fix this ? I was due to be getting on a 20 hour flight with this one as my company in half a days time so anyone with any good suggestions feel free to tell me ASAP!
    ThanksSteve

  • Zen Micro Photo not working with new XP SP2 install

Okay so my Zen Micro Photo stopped being recognised on my computer about ten months ago when I upgraded to WMP (for BBC iPlayer - it's compulsory to have it). Anyway I li'ved with this and have now got thoroughly sick of the same songs and nothing new so I have done a fresh install (on a brand new hard dri've) of Windows XP SP2 WMP9 with the sole intention of using this install/hard dri've?for the player. I used the original installation disk and it prompted me to upgrade to WMP0 as I installed everything. There were no errors during the install and I rebooted when prompted to.
When I attach the player it is recognised by the machine (task bar icon and correctly labelled in System > Hardware > Device Manager which reports it to be?working okay) but the Creative media software says "player not attached" when it is. It is not visible on My Computer as a dri've so I STILL have no access to the player. Player screen reports "docked" with a logo and is flashes a charging icon. Driver v5.2.0.0. The player plays fine but hasn't had new music on in almost a year
There is nothing else on the XP install (IE6 and everything - argh!) I did the registry permission tweak thing mentioned?here:?http://support.creative.com/kb/showa....aspx?sid=9287?but it didn't do anything.
    Any help greatfully received!

  • Zen Micro 'player is not connect

    Could someone please help me?
I've had my zen micro for about a year now and i always had some problems with importing tracks, id have to connect and disconnect it a few times before it would work, but now nothing. I've used different cables and different computers and it still won't work. I am either told that 'player is not connected' or that there has been a malfunction with a USB device. Is there anything I can do other than gettin a new player?
    Thanks Jen

If different PCs has not solved it then the player is most likely faulty. Contact support, click the Support > Contact Customer Support link on this page.

  • Zen Micro with PC connection Problems and no firmw

I'm running on Windows XP Service Pack 2 and I have Windows Media Player 0.
...and my Zen Micro wouldn't be detected, so I formatted it completely and I tried reloading the firmware. My old Zen Micro with v firmware still connects perfectly well, but Windows just doesn't detect my v2 firmware (now no firmware) Zen Micro.
    Advice, please?
    :edit:
Windows DOES detect my Zen Micro now...but I still can't do anything with it. It appears as MTP player connected:

    bkBlade,
Check this Knowledgebase article SID0053 and make sure the USB registry entry is correct. If you do make changes to the registry base on the Knowledgebase info, then try reloading the v2 firmware again.
