Zen Micro playlist synching rarely works with Sync Mana

I'm not using MTP/Play for Sure apps or firmware (I like the old directory style view in ZMME). I rarely get a clean sync of a playlist onto my Micro. I import the external playlist (usually a .m3u list made on Winamp) to Creative MediaSource, then I (try to) sync it to the Micro. MediaSource always imports the correct number of files, but during the sync process, Sync Manager never detects the full amount of files. Then, when it tries to sync, it rarely even gets the ones it did manage to detect onto the player. I often get the message that "0 files/playlists were transferred" due to some unknown error.
I've tried connecting the Micro directly to my USB card port (instead of my usual method of using the more convenient front access port or the hub ports on my monitor). That didn't help a bit.
Does it matter whether I initiate the sync from ZMME or MediaSource? I assume not since they both just kick over to Sync Mangager anyway.
Any ideas?

Try transferring the playlist from MediaSource's PC Music Library to your Zen Micro manually. Do not use sync. See whether it works.
By the way, have you:
- Download and install the latest Creative MediaSource Player/Organizer 3.30.2 from your product download site.
- (Depending on your firmware)
Download and install the latest Creative Zen and NOMAD Jukebox plugin 2.00.9 for Creative MediaSource from your product download site.
or:
Download and install the latest Creative MediaSource Plugin for PlaysForSure devices (version .00.8) from your product download site.

Zen micro USB doesn't work with car ra

My zen micro can't connect to my car radio or my teac reciever chr-255. Neither can connect to the USB. It reads for a secund and then just give up. Has anyone got the same problem or even bette, has anyone solved it's?

I suspect the problem may be that your car stereo and Teac receiver are expecting a USB flash dri've type of player and not a PlaysForSure MTP (Media Transfer Protocol) player.
With USB flash dri'ves, the car stereo and the receiver are expecting what looks like a hard dri've which they can just browse and play files directly.
MTP players don't look like hard dri'ves, despite what you might have come to expect because of the Creative Media Explorer interface. CME is performing MTP operations and presenting a view that just looks like a hard dri've.
MTP is used, in part, to manage playlists and to enforce DRM (digital rights management) licenses.
I keep hoping that Microsoft, Creative, and PlaysForSure/MTP compatible players will come up with a standard for operating the player like an iPod so integration will be as seemless for non-iPod players as well.

It does not work with sync between Outlook

It does not work with sync between Outlook, Exchange and iPhone.
Writing something into the iPhone so it will in the PC calendar and put up in telefoen. After a while, it disappears from the iPhone but is still on the computer. The same goes for the iPad. Seems to have arisen after the last update as a security measure was around May 25 -13.

Suggest turning off and deleting the Exchange account and adding it back again. Appears there is a communications problem between the two.

I also had problems with iTunes 7 when it first came out, but 7.0.2 is working for me and seems to have fixed a lot of the problems. It's worth a try if you need iTunes 7 for your new iPod.

Zen Micro: how many are working proper

I bought a Zen Micro for my daughter for Christmas and finally sent it back because it was having the docking problems. I have reguarly read the messages in this forum since then, waiting for an indication that the problem has been fixed. I have read many ideas of what is causing it, from USB ., USB 2.0, usb cables, full battery charge, etc., but no consistent solution. I have also read many posts in which people say most are not having any problem.
So, my request is, if you have a Zen Micro, and you have had no problems at all, please post a message with when you bought yours, and the firmware and software you are using. Thanks a lot for your help. I'm just trying to figure out if it is worth it to take a chance again. I don't want an Ipod with $00 non-user replaceable batteries.

Bought my dark blue Limited Edition in mid-December from Amazon.com. I first charged the unit before doing anything else and it hung up upon completion of that first charge. Removed and replaced the battery and have had no further hangs of any sort. I upgraded to .0.03 right away and am still there. I mostly load music by syncing with WMP 0 and even without the MTP support it works fine for me. I also use Notmad Explorer occassionally to manipulate playlists. It works fine too.
My only problem is I cannot reliably use the touch pad. I'm always selecting the wrong thing or skipping over what I want. Since I love everything else about the ZM, I'm living with the touch pad. I have tried both low and high sensitivity settings and it seems to work slightly better at the high setting.
I haven't actually timed my battery life, but I'm guessing I'm getting somewhere around 8-0 hours playing WMA at 96kbps with Smart Volume off and only occassional use of EQ. I usually disconnect the headphones when the unit is turned off, but I don't know if that changes anything. I try to run the battery quite low (no bars or low battery warning) before a full charge, but I do let it charge for a while sometimes while its connected to the USB port on the PC.
Unlike some, I have been very pleased with the FM radio. I get good reception even at work in my ground floor office of a mostly metal building. That's with the stock earphones.
I started out using USB ., but added USB 2.0 to my computer (Windows XP SP2) and had no trouble with either. I have not seen the problem some have reported about problems when the battery is fully charged.
One last thing... I have 697 songs on my ZM, with about 2.8 GB of free space.

Zen Micro Media Explorer not working

Recently I purchased a new PC. winxp. My zen worked just fine on my old PC. I installed my zen and the media explorer. When I launch the Zen Micro Media Explorer everything is grayed out. I cant click on anything. Windows media explorer shows my zen, but the Zen Micro Media Explorer is just all gray. I have FW version .3. I figued I would upgrade the FW and when I try upgading, it says the zen is not plugged in. I need to edit my playlists and I cant get into the media explorer. help!

I'm having exactly the same problem with my Creative Zen Touch 40 gB - a couple of months ago I had to re-instal windows and manage to re-install MediaSource and all the Audigy and Creative Zen drivers and they all worked together nicely. I've now upgraded the motherboard and processor, re-installed windows and cannot get mediasource to see my device. I've tried intslling the plays-for-sure software suite and it says it can't see my device and to check that the firmware is updated to PFS devices, which it is. I've tried the updated drivers, updated mediasource, uninstalled the device and re-installed it and nothing works. I'm running Windows XP Professional which has been updated with all the critical updates and also runs Media PLayer .
I know this doesn't help the previous poster, but if anyone else can help, that'd be fab.

My zen micro playlist prob

Grrr.. I had this same problem about 3 months ago. I literally tried for hours and days and weeks!! taking out the battery and restarting it time after time. one day it just finally came on to the little option screen and i was able to update my firmware. It worked better than ever after that. no stopping, no long pause when skipping through tracks. it worked out fine for about 2 months. Now its broken again with the same problem, so looks like ill be out my music for another month until i can jumpstart this thing. How come the Zen Micro doesnt have the reset button like some of the bigger ones? So anyways the only advice that I'm giving you is through my own previous experiences with it. Just keeping trying eventually it will come to you.. Or ship the thing out and pay the 24.95 for an assessment then pay parts and labor >:P I think I've already paid enough personally.

Zen Micro: Playlist transfer issues upd

I have been browsing through this forum checking out synchronising issues with the Zen Micro. I have only been able to use the Creative software to physically sync playlists to the device. WMP0 will happily sync the songs, but not the playlist itself.

Do I [and I guess, should I] update my firmware to allow WMP0 to sync playlists? I notice that a few of you have reservations about the firmware upgrade and how it affects the relationship between the device and various other programs. Does the upgrade prevent using Creative's software? Or is there another path I can take?

Unless of course any of you know if Musicmatch can get round this! As I like the style and usability of Musicmatch.

All help much welcomed, as I find the Creative Way of managing music files to be very tedious and messy to the eye.

Zen Micro: "play count" weird work

hello everybody!
I was wondering why some of the songs, rarely heard by me, havethe same number of "play count" that the often heard ones. I've checked it by loading an album and before playing it, I Iooked upthe "play count" of the second song in the list. Then I started to play the firstsong in the album. While the song was playing I checked both "playcounts". In the first song (currently played) Zen Micro correctly addeda next number to the counter, but surprisingly the second song(not played yet) had it the same - an increased counter!
I come to a conclusion that Zen Micro increases the "play count" in thenext song even though it's not currently playing. I noticed thatwhen preceding song is quite large, ZM doesn't increase a "play count"in a next song (while the preceding song is playing). I think it'sconnected with a size of the buffer and faulty working play countsystem.
I've hit upon an idea and I loaded one very short song (5sec). I set the"Repeat Track" mode and played this song. After a few timessong had played I stopped it and checked our "play count". I wasshocked, the counter had enormous number (something over 00)!
Have you got the same problem? Is there any solution to that?
I use 5Gb Zen Micro with ..0 firmware.

I've definitely seen mention of play count not being correct before. If this is a bug it needs to be logged with support directly as well. I can't stress enough how important it is for everyone with a bug to log it directly with support, as often the number of support cases prejudice how likely a bug is to get attention.

Zen Micro Keys won't work after uploading tra

Monday night I downloaded all the firmware onto my new Zen micro and when I did that Napster finally let me start transferring all my music back to it. Everything seemed hunky dory so I went to bed while I waited for 200ish songs to transfer over. When I got up yesterday morning and turned on the Zen, Napster recognized that there were tracks on it, but none of the buttons worked. I couldn't flip through the menus or see anything except the main screen. So I left work early so that I could call Creative's customer service line before they closed. Basically the guy talked me through re-downloading the firmware back onto the Zen and then Ta-Da! all my playlists showed back up and I could flip through the menus and play the music. But he suggested I remove all the tracks and re-load them in case any of them had bug (but my though was....shouldn't re-downloading all the firmware DELETE all the tracks in the first place?) But whatever. I re-transfer all the tracks over to it and went to the movies. When I got home....same thing as Monday. Napster's recognizing that indeed, there are tracks on the Zen, but I can't navigate through any of it's menus and the keypad acts like it's broken. Keep in mind, I just pulled this **bleep**er out of the box MONDAY NIGHT.

Keys not working can't be related to Napster.
Run through the advice in the "My Zen is not behaving properly, won't startup, or goes into rescue mode. What should I do?" section of the FAQ post.
If this doesn't help the player is faulty.

Zen Micro Firmware 2.20.05 with Audible suppo

So I was checking out Audible.com to see what devices are listed and I noticed the Zen Micro was there. It was weird because non of the firmwares listed on Creative.com showed Audible Support. So I e-mailed Audible asking what firmware they tested out for the Zen Micro that supports Audible. So they e-mailed me back saying go to this website: <a href='http://www.audible.com/muvo_upgrade.html' target=_blank>www.audible.com/muvo_upgrade.html[/url] (yes it says muvo but that doesn't mean anything). Click on Creative Zen Micro or scroll all the way down. The link they gave was a download from their website as a file named: ZenMicroP4SAudible_2_20_05.zip Now it doesn't take a smart guy to notice that 2_20_05 is the firmware version of the file. And any firmware beginning with 2 is considered the PlaysForSure firmware if going by Creative's convention of firmware numbering.
Only one problem. I dont have a Zen Micro to try it out. And its not even listed on Creative's support pages as a download.
I'm curious and I'm sure many others here are as well, does this firmware fix the battery drain issue? Also does it have any new features or does it fix anything else?

I checked the properties of the file and it is indeed made by Creative, not Audible.

Yup..it's finally here. I recieved a reply from a rep at Creative with a link to Audible to download the new firmware for the Zen Micro. Here is the message I recieved from him. I have already downloaded the new firmware and my Zen Micro works flawlessly with Audible....thank god the wait is over.

Zen Micro: Poor Battery Performance Even with Firmware Upgr

The Zen Micro's battery life is advertised to last up to 2 hours, but I am only getting approximately 7.5 hours. I have installed the latest firmware v.0.03 upgrade, and fully charged and discharged both batteries at least fi've times each (using the USB and AC adaptors before plutting into outlet). Before the firmware upgrade I was getting just under six hours of battery life. For testing purposes I am using 28kbps MP3 files, volume level 8, no EQ setting, no backlighting, and the headphones that came with the product. Since I have the player sitting on my desk, without being listened to, there's no skipping or forwarding of music tracks. Gi'ven the non-demanding settings, the battery performance is disappointing.
I have contacted tech support and they want me to send in my player for repair or replacement. It seems this issue is prevalent for all Zen Micros and I don't want to send mine in to have it returned all scuffed and scratched and not fixed (or get some grimy second-hand, refurbished model instead).
So I want to confirm that others are experiencing this same problem before I decide what to do. It seems it would be best to get another one from Amazon instead of going through the hassle of repair.

I notified Amazon of the problem on Friday and got a brand new replacement on Monday. Talk about great service.
Unfortunately the replacement is a crapper also. My second Zen Micro immediately and completely locks up when plugging in the USB cable. Since I didn't return my original unit yet, I was able to try another cable but got the same results. I fully charged the batteries, tried all of the various recovery mode options, and still had the Creative drivers/software previously installed on my computer from before. I'm running WinXP SP2 with up-to-date patches, and no other software installed since. My PC's motherboard has built-in USB 2.0 support (with power mgmt turned off) and updated drivers and BIOS, but these things shouldn't be an issue anyway since it worked fine with the first Zen Micro. I'm not able to upgrade the firmware, let alone transfer music, because of the lockup problem. I build and fix PCs for friends and coworkers all the time so I'm confident in my trouble-shooting abilities.
The second Micro makes the first one seem perfect. I really wanted to like this MP3 player, but two defecti've products in a row is totally unacceptable to me. What a waste of my time. I should have been more suspicious about Creative products since my Muvo TX FM player was buggy as well (i.e. player would immediately shut down when powering on). I will check out the Rio Carbon or iRi'ver products instead.

Zen Micro playlist upd

Hi All,
Got my dark blue Zen for Xmas and I AM IN LOVE (so far). Battery life to date is so-so, nowhere near 2 hours, maybe if I played it at volume but I digress....
I'd like to be able to update playlists on the fly....for example, if I hear a song that I want in my '60's rock' playlist, can I do it on the fly, or do I have to wait until I get home and dock the player?
BTW, showed my Zen Micro to 2 IPOD owners they are sick with envy.... I love it.

Overwriting the playlist would be effecti'vely the same as adding to it, assuming you have both the contents of the original playlist there and the new tracks.
I agree thought that much more is needed in the way of "on player" editing for playlists, and this has been on my wishlist for a long while.

Zen Micro- Playlist-making/Organizing software

I need to download software that will let me organize the music on my Zen Micro and make/modify playlists. I thought Creative MediaSource was what I wanted, but that doesn't seem to interface with my Zen, only with music files on my computer. So, would somebody mind telling me what program I want?

I've used the Zen Micro Media Explorer Web Update since I got my Zen Micro in '05.
I plug it in, let ZM Media Explorer load, then click Organize Music in Device and drag & drop files into the various Playlists.
You can create/rename Playlists easily by clicking on the Playlists menu tree, right click--> New Playlist, call it whatever you want and then organize from your Music Library.
Alternati'vely, you can go to the front page of ZM Media Explorer and click the Create a New Playlist in Device icon and go from there.

Zen Micro--Playlist len

Quick question: are playlists in the Zen Micro capped at a certain number of songs, i.e., 256 songs? Stated differently, is it impossible to have more than 256 songs in a playlist in the Micro? Thanks.

I like to create sets of music that coincide with timed events, so it would be great to be able ? to look at the "now playing" list and have the same info we have for individual songs "time played", and "time left" for a long set of songs. Suggestions (besides logging each track/time as I load it, and adding)...
