Zen Micro: Playlist transfer issues upd

I have been browsing through this forum checking out synchronising issues with the Zen Micro. I have only been able to use the Creative software to physically sync playlists to the device. WMP0 will happily sync the songs, but not the playlist itself.

Do I [and I guess, should I] update my firmware to allow WMP0 to sync playlists? I notice that a few of you have reservations about the firmware upgrade and how it affects the relationship between the device and various other programs. Does the upgrade prevent using Creative's software? Or is there another path I can take?

Unless of course any of you know if Musicmatch can get round this! As I like the style and usability of Musicmatch.

All help much welcomed, as I find the Creative Way of managing music files to be very tedious and messy to the eye.

Zen Micro file transfer issue - h

I just purchase a Zen Micor and installed everything, charged it, downloaded 0 songs and it worked great. So I tried to download some more, and they all ~80, "failed" to transfer. So I installed the new firmware thinking that may be the problem, but still unable to download anymore music. I did a clean disk and reboot, still nothing.
Does anyone have any ideas on what may be wrong, or what to do to correct this. I'd really hate to have to take this back, but not sure what to do at this point. I've never had this problem with my ipod or iri'ver before?

all the songs are mp3 format
the transfer window pops up, the status will say writing for about 5sec. then the error comes up and says unable to create file - restart player and try again.
but then the player has the acti've docked logo on, which you aren't supposed to unplug from the computer when that's on, but it will not go off. I've left it for hours and ended up unplugging it anyway. So I've restarted it, pulled the batter and retried that a few times too.
Any ideas?

Zen Micro playlist upd

Hi All,
Got my dark blue Zen for Xmas and I AM IN LOVE (so far). Battery life to date is so-so, nowhere near 2 hours, maybe if I played it at volume but I digress....
I'd like to be able to update playlists on the fly....for example, if I hear a song that I want in my '60's rock' playlist, can I do it on the fly, or do I have to wait until I get home and dock the player?
BTW, showed my Zen Micro to 2 IPOD owners they are sick with envy.... I love it.

Overwriting the playlist would be effecti'vely the same as adding to it, assuming you have both the contents of the original playlist there and the new tracks.
I agree thought that much more is needed in the way of "on player" editing for playlists, and this has been on my wishlist for a long while.

Zen Micro- Cannot Transfer Duplicate Fi

I got a Creative Zen Micro 6GB mp3 player for Christmas, and am having a little bit of trouble with transferring some songs. It won't let you put 2 songs with the same name on! For example, I want to put Green Day's Dookie on it, along with Green Day Interenational Superhits. But since the Superhits collection has songs from Dookie, an error window comes up saying that "there is already a file with the same name, do you want to skip tranferring this file or replace it's". Neither! I want it on twice on both albums! Yes, I can rename it so it dosen't do this, but I just want it on twice!I also have the same problem when 2 bands have the same name for a song (Green Day: In The End, Linkin Park: In The End). They are 2 completely different files, and I cannot put both on!Does anyone know what to do?

You can easily transfer a duplicate song to the Micro if you remove Zen Media Explorer and just use the standard Windows Explorer interface as that does not have any checks and duplicates can go on and off easily.
But I have a feeling its a tagging issue. It varies by programs, but some check the ID Tags as well as the filename, so yes change the filename of the songs, if it still wont go then try the song tags... Still not working? Then use the standard Windows Explorer interface to transfer. You dont need to remove Zen Media Explorer, at least I dont think so... Access your player via Control Panel -> Portable Media Devices. Hopefully it wont open up the Zen Media Explorer interface....

LOVE MY ZEN MICRO SO FAR. ONLY DILEMMA IS THIS. THE PLAYLISTS DONT SORT BY SONG TITLE OR EVEN ARTISTS. ALSO THEY DONT DETECT DUPLICATES. FOR EXAMPLE IF YOU ARE ADDING TO A PLAYLIST, THE PLAYLIST WILL BE IN THE ORDER THE SONGS WERE ADDED. IS THERE A WAY TO SORT THE PLAYLISTS BY TRACK TITLE ON THE PC OR MICRO. MTORT44, this issue has been discussed before. Don't you think that allowing sorting by clicking column in playlist is quite dangerous? Imagine that you have spend hour to arrange the order of 00 tracks in a playlist. An unintentional click on the column will destroy the order that you have built earlier. And you need to spend time arranging the order again.
For tracks in a playlist, it is unlikely that you want to sort the order of play by title, artist, or whatever. Usually, you would manually sort it. In MediaSource, you can drag and drop the tracks in a playlist to re-arrange the order.

Zen Micro Playlist Error - Please H

Everything for my zen micro when connected to my computer except for one thing. I can't create a playlist on my computer! Everytime I go into the Zen Media Explorer and try to create a new playlist, it tells me that it is "unable to connect to device. please try again." And yes, my Zen Micro is connected when I try this.
Anyways, I looked up to see if anybody had this issue but didn't find a thread about it. Can anybody help me out? I've only upgraded the software once... and terrible things happened(my computer stopped recognizing my micro) so I don't plan on doing that again unless that's my last resort. Thanks in advance.

I think you need to try the normal troubleshooting procedures i.e. a disk cleanup (see the FAQ post).
Also try using MediaSource, and failing that another PC even (just to test).

Zen Micro Playlist Direct

Can anyone tell me what the Playlist Directory is for on the Zen Micro? I have created several playlists with the Zen Explorer and can see those lists using the Zen Explorer. However, nothing is in the Zen Micro's Playlist directory? What is this directory and how do you use it's

Your issue is very confusing. I think what SSR is trying to say is that "Is your playlist shown in the playlist menu in the Zen Micro?"
And what you are trying to say is "Can I view the playlist on my Windows Explorer?"
You have to use Zen Micro Media Explorer to view your playlist or you can use Creative Mediasource. There is no directory that shows the playlist in Windows Explorer or on your computer. The Zen Micro doesn't act as hard dri've like how iRi'ver does. In the iRi'ver you have to configure everything on the iRi'ver or you can use WMP0.
You can also use WMP0, but I haven't tried making a playlist with WMP0 yet.

Zen Micro defect with Firmware upd

I updated my Zen Micro's firmware/drivers/applications the other day and now the player is not detected by creative media source organizer or zen micro media explorer - I have to transfer my songs through Real Player or WMP 0 now. Also, all the song lengths have changed to 8:2:5 long.
I had another problem even before the update - after the player is unlocked, the back arrow does not respond well. It would go to the tracklist then back to now playing. I have to go to the bottom right corner button and "lookup artist" then press back to go back to where I was before I locked it. I don't know if that's just the way the player is designed.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

MediaSource won't work with the 2.00.2 firmware. Best to only upgrade if you are sure you want to use only WMP0.

Zen Micro songs transfer to comput

- Launch Creative MediaSource Oragnizer.
- Go to Tools->Settings->PC Music Library and click Properties. Set your preferred folder and file naming convention. Close the setting page.
- In the Sources window, click to view PC Music Library.
- Go to View->Right Panel View and select to view your MP3 player.
- Transfer the tracks from your MP3 player to MediaSource's PC Music Library by clicking the arrow pointing from right to left.
- If you have updated the track information of the tracks in your MP3 player, the updated track information will also be imported into the PC Music Library database. However, the tags of the files are not updated. Here is what you need to do. Right click the PC Music Library node in the Sources window or right click on any tracks in the PC Music Library window and select "Update Tag". This will update the tag of all the tracks or the selected tracks with the track information as seen in the PC Music Library.

Zen micro file transfer error and playing mista

My Zen Micro 5GB had some problems wih the sound:sometimes, listening to a song, I heard (more orless) a second of another song but after that isreturned to the selected one. This is not the only problem: sometimes, whentransferring data between a PC and the player'sstorage dri've (2GB) it stops after a while.When transferring music from the player to the PCusing Music Organizer the PC receives some musicbut after a while it stops and displays amessage 'Cannot transfer file: file not found';after this, the player remains 'busy' also if youclose all the programs opened. My zen micro playlist prob

Ok here is my problem. And sorry when i write bad english. Im from holland and im not very good with english.
But here we go; My zen micro puts the song on titel likeangel - robbie williamsAnd not ; robbie williams - Angel
The problem here is, the artist don't stand together by there name
And if i go to play list;artist , sometimes he gives it on the titel, and sometimes on the artistHow can i get my playlist so that every?song just works on artist and?then the?titel??Thnx!

Grrr.. I had this same problem about 3 months ago. I literally tried for hours and days and weeks!! taking out the battery and restarting it time after time. one day it just finally came on to the little option screen and i was able to update my firmware. It worked better than ever after that. no stopping, no long pause when skipping through tracks. it worked out fine for about 2 months. Now its broken again with the same problem, so looks like ill be out my music for another month until i can jumpstart this thing. How come the Zen Micro doesnt have the reset button like some of the bigger ones? So anyways the only advice that I'm giving you is through my own previous experiences with it. Just keeping trying eventually it will come to you.. Or ship the thing out and pay the 24.95 for an assessment then pay parts and labor >:P I think I've already paid enough personally.

Zen Micro playlist synching rarely works with Sync Mana

I'm not using MTP/Play for Sure apps or firmware (I like the old directory style view in ZMME). I rarely get a clean sync of a playlist onto my Micro. I import the external playlist (usually a .m3u list made on Winamp) to Creative MediaSource, then I (try to) sync it to the Micro. MediaSource always imports the correct number of files, but during the sync process, Sync Manager never detects the full amount of files. Then, when it tries to sync, it rarely even gets the ones it did manage to detect onto the player. I often get the message that "0 files/playlists were transferred" due to some unknown error.
I've tried connecting the Micro directly to my USB card port (instead of my usual method of using the more convenient front access port or the hub ports on my monitor). That didn't help a bit.
Does it matter whether I initiate the sync from ZMME or MediaSource? I assume not since they both just kick over to Sync Mangager anyway.
Any ideas?

Try transferring the playlist from MediaSource's PC Music Library to your Zen Micro manually. Do not use sync. See whether it works.
By the way, have you:
- Download and install the latest Creative MediaSource Player/Organizer 3.30.2 from your product download site.
- (Depending on your firmware)
Download and install the latest Creative Zen and NOMAD Jukebox plugin 2.00.9 for Creative MediaSource from your product download site.
or:
Download and install the latest Creative MediaSource Plugin for PlaysForSure devices (version .00.8) from your product download site.

Zen Micro- Playlist-making/Organizing software

I need to download software that will let me organize the music on my Zen Micro and make/modify playlists. I thought Creative MediaSource was what I wanted, but that doesn't seem to interface with my Zen, only with music files on my computer. So, would somebody mind telling me what program I want?

I've used the Zen Micro Media Explorer Web Update since I got my Zen Micro in '05.
I plug it in, let ZM Media Explorer load, then click Organize Music in Device and drag & drop files into the various Playlists.
You can create/rename Playlists easily by clicking on the Playlists menu tree, right click--> New Playlist, call it whatever you want and then organize from your Music Library.
Alternati'vely, you can go to the front page of ZM Media Explorer and click the Create a New Playlist in Device icon and go from there.

Zen Micro--Playlist len

Quick question: are playlists in the Zen Micro capped at a certain number of songs, i.e., 256 songs? Stated differently, is it impossible to have more than 256 songs in a playlist in the Micro? Thanks.

I like to create sets of music that coincide with timed events, so it would be great to be able ? to look at the "now playing" list and have the same info we have for individual songs "time played", and "time left" for a long set of songs. [Zen Micro] Problems with firmware upd

Hello!
Yesterday I finally received my Zen Micro and I tried to update my firmware, but it didn?t work. I downloaded the file (firmware 2.02.2) from creative.com and nomadworld, but both files didn?t work.
This is what my computer said:
An application is interfering with the flash-program. Close all applications and all explore windows before you continue. - Renew - Close
What does this mean? I closed all running programs and my firewall and anti virus program. Am I doing something wrong?

Well, I searched the whole forum and I found the answer I was looking for. I had to shut down CTDetect.exe in the Task Manager and it worked!
