Zen Micro PlaysForSure firmware upgrade fatal error - RESOL

First, sorry about poor english!
When i tried to upgrade my Zen Micro to the latest firmware i got the following message: "Creative Zen Micro PlaysForSure Firmware Upgrade: This application only supports Windows XP platform with at least Service Pack installed." The executable name was: ZenMicroP4S_PCFW_L6_2_2_02.exe and yes i have Windows XP SP2 installed on my computer. (and on the other three computers, where i got the exact error message.)Message Edited by kaszast on 0-26-2006 08:37 AM

I have Zen Micro with firmware .0.03 and I want to upgrade it, but I don't know which firmware I have to choose
May I choose firmware PlaysForSure 2.00.2e or firmware .02.05 ? Which is better? Or maybe I shouldn't upgrade my Zen and stay with .0.03 (it's stable)
And one more question: The PlaysForSure 2.00.2e firmware is stable and with no problems with it's?

And still how can I downgrade firmware?
. With the 2.xx.xx firmware it needs WMP 0 for the built in MTP, music management and DRM functionality that is enabled under the 2.xx.xx firmware. You also need XP because WMP0 is not supported under anything else.
    2. If you have a .xx.xx firmware version on the player and are under Windows 2000 or anything other than XP the unit CAN NOT be upgraded to a 2.xx.xx firmware. The update will fail or quit if you attempt to update to a 2.xx.xx firmware on anything but XP. If you already have a 2.xx.xx firmware on the player it will nolonger be recognized on a Win2000 or less system. It is only useable on a an XP system at that point.
    3. Once you have upgraded to the .02.05 firmware or the 2.xx.xx firmware you can only go back and forth between those two versions ( As long as you are on XP )

    Thanks for help.
    Major problem solved.
    Already upgraded to new firmware.
    I do it by:
    1. uninstall all creative application and plugin.
    2. using registry cleaner to clean the registry.
    3. downgrade WMP to WMP0
    4. Detected by WMP as MTP device, loading firmware upgrade, closed WMP. upgraded.
Now it Working fine already, just still have some problem is:
. Only WMP can detect it, all creative application can't detect it..
    thanks anyway.

  • [Zen Micro] New Firmware 1.10.02 - standby adjustme

Just downloaded this firmware but have not installed it:
    Creative Zen Micro Firmware .0.02
"This web release enables you to upgrade the firmware for your , 4, 5 or 6GB Creative Zen Micro player.
You can upgrade from Creative Zen Micro firmware .02.05 or earlier, or Zen Micro PlaysForSure? firmware 2.00.2 or later. After upgrading, you cannot go back to a previous Creative Zen Micro firmware version."
    ====
I do not want to install this to my Micro if I cannot go back to a firmware that I know works (.02.05), but it is (I think) the latest ... There is however, nothing in the description that says this is the firmware that will allow for a shorter standby time.
Any brave souls want to give this a try and report on it ...
I'm too chicken when it comes to 'no rollback firmware'.

belay that and sorry for posting this without thoroughly searching through the forum ...
    From a post on nomadness.net:
    All,
.0.02 is the PDE firmware that enables the 4hr. standby timer. There will be an MTP version that does this also, however the PDE firmware was ready first so we released it ASAP.

  • BETA - Creative Zen Micro PlaysForSure with Windows Media Player 10 Update 2.10

I realise this has been talked about before, but...
I installed Creative Zen Micro *PlaysForSure/MTP Firmware 2.00.2 a couple of times and I had trouble syncing tracks. Formatting and Cleaning Up didn't work, before you ask. So i downgraded to previous firmware. I was wondering whether any users who had this problem installed the Beta firmware and found it was OK, because I know I can't downgrade from a Beta release so I wanted to ask before I installed it.

I would imagine that there are people around who would answer YES, and some that would answer NO to your question.
But given what appears to be a large number of people who have troubles with that BETA firmware (esp when used with Napster to go), I would suggest you don't try that BETA firmware unless :
    - you have a high stress level,
    - you don't mind the risk of turning your Micro useless for a few weeks
    - you feel a strong need to take whatever risk to solve whatever problems you have now.

  • Zen Sleek photo firmware upgrade

I found out that the Creative Zen Sleek had a firmware upgrade (PlaysForSure Firmware 2.0.03). The Creative Zen Sleek Photo hadn't... Can 2.0.03 be used on the Zen Sleek Photo and what is the effect of it's

The Zen Sleek Photo was a later model and may have included the fixes that the update for the Zen Sleek had. It could be the Zen Sleek's firmware upgrade was just to catch up.
I wouldn't use firmware for another player.

  • Zen Micro undetected, after PlaysForSure Firmware upgrade! *USB 2.0 er

Half way through the PFS?firmware installation, a Found new Hardware window pop up, prompt me to install software for USB 2.0 device. I carried on to install hardware, but it just can't find the suitable software. After I close the pop up, the upgrade installation went dead. The next time i plug my zen micro, the pc can't detect it! The only thing workable is the removable disk. I can't reinstall the software becos the pc cannot detect the zen micro (i tried all usb ports)? Some other info:-Everytime i plug my zen micro in, the Found new Hardware window will pop up, prompt me to install software for USB 2.0 device. Before u tell me it's my chipset problem, i have no problem with other devices that use usb 2.0, and this problem occurs ONLY after i tried installing the firmware, ONLY on zen micro. My zen micro was working PERFECTLY fine before this. -My?zen micro's system information states that the firmware is 2.2.02, though i mentioned earlier that the installation went dead. I am pretty sure this undetection problem is cause by the firmware upgrade. I hope all zen micro users who read this post will stop their intention to upgrade to this firmware, until a solution arri'ves. Hope i can have some "real" help on this. Any user from this forum who has the same problem, can post to share. Anyone who are able to solve this, pls post too, much appreciated.

  • Zen Micro with "firmware error". Seeking resuscitation advi

I've posted in several threads as my Zen Micro's health deteriorated and got no advice yet. Hope this time someone figures out what can I do.
I've got a Zen Micro, using it with Windows XP SP2 with WMP 0.
Firmware on player was 2..02 . I started having issues when syncing, it would hang and not finish the session, with the device screen on the "do not disconnect" signal. Read the forum and followed an advice to "upgrade" firmware.
Tried to reload firmware, but the process hanged at the "erasing firmware" screen for a long long time. I disconnected the player. After that, the device won't boot. It goes to the recovery screen after a "firmware error" sign.
If I try to re-upgrade with 2..02 firmware using the PC, the progress advances but at some point it says "firmware upgrade failed".
Tried to roll-back to . firmware. It goes through. It says (showing 2 blue squares of progress) "format completed successfully" then the progress stops and the player remain with the "do not disconnect" signal for a long long time (30 minutes, hour, forever?).
I tried to roll-back to .0 firmware. Message says "please install latest jukebox driver that support your player". I did, but the message stays.
Anyone knows what can I do to load a firmware succesfully?Message Edited by raft on -7-20062:56 PM

  • Creative Zen Micro PlaysForSure/MTP Firmware 2.00

When installing the new firmware update version 2.00.2 on my Zen Micro, the Zen Micro Explorer and the Creative MediaSource Applications do not recognize the device when it is plugged in. I installed the software Update Package (v.00.) for 'Zen Micro Players with PlaysForSure/MTP Firmware' and I am experiencing the same results. I had to revert the player back to PDE Firmware v.0.03.
Please update forum if experiencing the same thing or have suggestions.

MediaSource won't work with the new v2 firmware, you can only use WMP and the updated version of the Zen Micro Media Explorer. I believe it does say this in the readme associated with the new firmware.

  • PlaysForSure Firmware upgrade for Zen Nano/Nano P

i think that it would be absolutely awesome if us nano/nano plus owners could listen to the suscription service music like Yahoo Music Unlimited and Napster to go. I want creative to come out with a firmware upgrade for the nano to make this possible. If you want this firmware upgrade, please sign.

There may be hardware limits that prevent these players from using subscription music, such as a secure realtime clock. Also this petition could probably be extended for all the flash players (whether capable or not).
But remember the Xtra and Touch got PFS support and I dont think they were designed with a secure clock in them.... so based on that flash players <i>could</i> have PFS support

  • Zen Micro V2 Firmware probl

    Hello-
I've had the Zen Micro for a few days and I loved it, until I upgraded to the new firmware (2.002 - PlaysForSure functionality) which makes it auto sync w/ WMP 0. I was excited about the possibility so I went ahead and upgraded and I have had multiple problems with the new firmware release. I was wondering if anyone else had encountered these, or if they are bugs that need to be worked out.
First, after upgrading I synced with WMP 0 and certain songs would transfer to 00% then would hang and I would get an error message in WMP 0 saying: The I/O operation has been aborted because of either a thread exit or an application request. Error code: 800703E3. This never happened before. After removing the songs that would cause this problem, I no longer get this message, but the prob still must be attributed to some change that occurred with the upgrade since the faulty songs transferred perfectly before upgrading.
Second, and more importantly, is the fact that songs are not being filed correctly on the Micro since the new firmware has been installed. All songs that do not contain information in the "Album" field of the ID tag are unaccessible now. If you select "Artist" in the Micro, the only songs available are those that are categorized by album. With the prior firmware, songs not tagged w/ info in the album field would automatically go in a section called <Unknown>. Now, they are not accessible at all. If I have an artist w/ one song on the Micro and the song doesn't have info in the album field on the ID tag, the artist is available but after selecting it I come to a blank screen on the Micro. I have also attributed this to the new firmware b/c I've reinstalled the older one and the filing system is back to normal and is fully functional.
If anyone has encountered these probs or come up w/ solutions let me know. I'd love to be able to utilize the auto sync features of WMP 0 but for now I'll manually sync and keep things in order on the Micro's side of things w/ the older firmware version. Thanks for any help/input.
    Take care,
    Craig

Bear with me as I lay out the problems/sequence of events:
    - Got excited over the MTP support and upgraded. My laptop stopped recognizing the Zen
    - Creative support thought that my MP0 maybe hosed; so I rollback and install MP0 again. No resolution.
    - Went into to 'rescue mode' and wiped the disk clean
    - Installed the old firmware; my laptop recognized the Zen
I pressed on and connected my Zen to a desktop and upgraded the firmware to MTP support (v2.x)
    - I was able to sync with MP0 but frequently experienced problems with 'hang' during sync after 00%
    - I disconnected the unit and MP0 aborted the sync
    - Reconnect and sync would hang at the exact same song. Further, I noticed the following:
    - Songs would sync up very fast (noticed around 800KB/S)
    - The problem song would experience startup problems and would hang after reaching 00%
    - I deleted the 'problem' song (which plays fine in MP0) and 'sync' continued without problems
    - Created a playlist in MP0 which synced OK; but the Playlist is missing in Zen!!
    Summary:
I think Creative released the f/w too early.

  • Zen Micro, Playsforsure, Windows 2

I read this in the firmware description: This firmware will currently <I>ONLY</I> work on Windows XP.
Does it mean that I can use no more the zen micro even with the drivers and applications installed in windows 2000?
I have more than one pc, some with xp and some with 2000. Is it considered safe to upgrade to playsforsure firmware?
Moreover, is anyone experiencing problems with the new playsforsure beta firmware?

If you are using 2000 you can't upgrade. Some people are having problems although I don't have a clear idea of what their issues are.

Rolling back to a previous version of the Player
Windows Media Player is a feature of the Windows operating system and cannot be removed entirely. However, in Windows XP, you can roll back to the version of the Player that was previously on your computer.
You must be logged on as an administrator or a member of the Administrators group to perform the following procedure.
Disconnect any portable music or video devices that might be attached to your computer.
    2.
Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
    3.
In the Category View of Control Panel, click Add or Remove Programs, and then click Remove a program.
    4.
Click Windows Media Player , and then click Remove.
If Windows Media Player is not displayed in the list of currently installed programs, then try the following:
At the top of the list, select the Show updates check box.
    2.
In the Windows XP - Software Updates section, click Windows Media Player , and then click Change/Remove.
    5.
In each of the two confirmation dialog boxes that appear, click OK.
    6.
When the rollback process is complete (it might take several minutes), click Restart.
    7.
Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
    8.
In the Category View of Control Panel, click Add or Remove Programs, and then click Remove a program.
    9.
Click Windows Media Format Runtime, and then click Remove.
If Windows Media Format Runtime is not displayed in the list of currently installed programs, then try the following:
At the top of the list, select the Show updates check box.
    2.
In the Windows XP - Software Updates section, click Windows Media Format Runtime, and then click Change/Remove.
If you installed a non-US English version of Windows Media Player , the instructions in the dialog boxes that are mentioned in steps 9, 0, and might appear in English.
    0.
In the first confirmation dialog box that appears, click OK.
In the second confirmation dialog box that appears, select the Do you want to continue with the rollback? check box, and then click OK.
    2.
When the rollback process is complete (it might take several minutes to complete), click Restart.
    3.
Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
    4.
In the Category View of Control Panel, click Add or Remove Programs, and then click Remove a program.
    5.
Click Microsoft User-Mode Driver Framework Feature Pack .0.0, and then click Remove.
    6.
Follow the instructions that appear in the Software Update Removal Wizard.
If the Wudf0000 confirmation dialog box appears, click Yes to continue. When the software removal process is complete (it might take several minutes to complete), click Finish.
Note If you remove Windows Media Player and the Windows Media Format Runtime, and then encounter error C00D27D ("A problem has occurred in the Digital Rights Management component. Contact Microsoft product support."), you might be able to resolve the problem by installing the Windows Media Format 9.5 Runtime. For information about installing the Runtime, in the Microsoft Knowledge Base, see article 8922, "Update for Windows Media Digital Rights Management-enabled players."
You might not be able to roll back to a previous version of the Player if the hidden folder $NtUninstallwmp$ is deleted from your computer. Some non-Microsoft programs (such as CCleaner) delete this folder in an attempt to remove unwanted files from your computer.
then download the latest firmware file and run it.
WHAT IS VERY IMPORTANT TO KNOW
when i ran the update program it showed all the bars filled but then said the firmware update failed. apparently it didnt fail cuz its working right now. after u do all this u can reinstall wmp to sync ur files.
    so heres the ste
    ps.
uninstall wmp and the framework package
    do the firmware update
    reinstall wmp
i dont know if anyone ever suggested this but it worked for me
    good luck everyone!
    ps.
if i find that this fails later on then it is definately an issue with creatives firmware. ill keep u all posted

  • Full revision list of the Zen Micro's firmware?

/ I've been digging up various firmwares, and I'll be honest and say that because I use an AC Adaptor that 2.2.02 and ..0 are not in my best interests. While I have no tested whether .02.05 retains charge over time I will probably do so tomorrow. I'd like to know the full history of the device so I know where to stand on this. I like to have the 4 hour standby, but not the 'shorter' charge span simply because all Creative did was drop the peak voltage from 4.9V (Li-Po can take up to 4.235V) to 4.2V. Granted the slope of the charging curve gets very flat at that level, but I do feel that it is best to inform geeks so they know what to expect.
    Version (Recovery Mode version)
    ..0 (0.0.65)
    2.2.02 (0.0.65)
.0.02 (0.0.63) (Pulled off due to complaints)
    .02.05 (0.0.58)
    2.00.2 (Cannot be installed)
I know I missed a few, but because the Zen Micro is past its life cycle I doubt there will be any customizations to the device.

    what problems?
Spending time on a support forum like this, that covers the full gamut of the customer base, you are going to see probably 80% of the posts from folks having problems ranging from minor pilot error to real hardware failure. The 20% with tips, kudos etc are all in the minority and will not be very visible.
Creative has probably sold over 5 million Micro's since inception. There are definitely going to be problems with that many units in the general population. And some of the problems have been real issues such as the battery drain and the issue of headphone jacks. The latest firmware v . has fixed the battery problem, and on the 3 Micros in our household we are all seeing over hours playback time, excellent battery hold time, good charging characteristics etc etc. The headphone jack issue seems to have become a lot less of a topic the past month or so. Noting that Creative sold probably about .5 million of the earliest Micros, and these were the units that seemed to have headphone jacks go bad, if at all, all the later products may have enough of a redesign that the jacks are OK. Certainly we are fine over here with the new revisions.
The pluses of the Micro are many, and the diminuti've size and excellent UI makes using this player a pleasure. Audio quality is excellent, and other than sheer output power is right up there with the JB3 (IMO the best ever mp3 player - irregardless of brand).
Hope this rambling note can help you with your decision.
