Zen Micro Problems with Shutting Do

My current problem with the Zen Micro.. all of a sudden i have difficulty shutting it down. Usually when we turn off the ZM, it will take a couple of seconds to shut down. But since Sunday, i was unable to shut down the ZM successfully. It seems to have hanged at the "shutting down" image and that's about it. the lights are on. the ZM is not shutting down. so i have to take out the battery instead to shut it down. I wonder what's the problem with the ZM? or does anyone have faced or is facing the same problem too?
Previously the problem with the Zen Micro i bought was with the hard disk, which i think alot of early buyers had the same problem. Coz i remember queueing for ages.. at the Creative Service Centre to get the Zen Micro changed for a new one. Apparently the batch that i bought my zen micro was faulty... =((
Hope to get some help!
Thanks!
Ange.

I had exactly the same problem... fixed it by doing the following
Remove the battery, hold the power switch in the on position and re-insert the battery.
The recovery menu should appear, select disk cleanup from this. When thats finished select reboot.
I can't take any credit for this, copied it from someone else in the forum!

  • Zen Micro - problem with hard d

I have a problem with my zen micro. It does not boot up - I have tried reformatting the disk, but no success. One of the technicians I showed it to sugegsted that the hard disk has gone bad and I need to replace it. Any idea of where I can procure one from? Does creative sell it online?

Same problem here. After about 5 months of dutiful use, the hard dri've failed.
It's a paperweight now and I decided quickly and easily that the money it would take to replace the hard dri've was better spent on a flash-based player. Seeing as my original MuVo is still trucking, I'd say that flash-based players are a better choice if your storage needs are small (< 4GB being small these days).

  • [Zen Micro] Problems with firmware upd

    Hello!
Yesterday I finally received my Zen Micro and I tried to update my firmware, but it didn?t work. I downloaded the file (firmware 2.02.2) from creative.com and nomadworld, but both files didn?t work.
This is what my computer said:
An application is interfering with the flash-program. Close all applications and all explore windows before you continue. - Renew - Close
What does this mean? I closed all running programs and my firewall and anti virus program. Am I doing something wrong?
    Thanks for any help!

Well, I searched the whole forum and I found the answer I was looking for. I had to shut down CTDetect.exe in the Task Manager and it worked!
Thank you for helping SSR, I really appreciate it!

  • Nwe Zen Micro, problems with battery cha

Brand new user, bought 2 Zen Micro Photo's for my daughters for Christmas. I read the postings on battery situations, but wanted to get a clearer answer to my problem.
Our Zen's will charge when plugged in to my computer at work, Windows XP professional 5., this is where I have the Creative Software downloaded and have done my setup, ripping and downloading. Problem is, I can not ge them to charge on my computer at home, the lightning bolt flashes, but the battery bars do not increase.
How long does it need to charge to be fully charged? I understand the lightning bolt changes to something else when fully charged?
Do you have to have the software loaded to charge it's
How long should the battery last after being fully charged? They are depleting in about 4 hours time.
Also, what bit rate do you recommend for song downloads to get maximum usage?

Just to add to the advice so far, make sure the faceplate light is pulsing as well. If not, this is a sign that things are not well.
The first thing to try though is updating both players to at least the ..0 firmware, which includes several charging fixes and features. Specifically the new lock charging, where you lock the player (slide the power switch towards the headphone socket) before connecting to USB. This di'verts all the USB power to charging the player and often solves the issue.
How long does it need to charge to be fully charged? I understand the lightning bolt changes to something else when fully charged?
The lightning bolt will change to a plug, if the player is switched on. If the player is turned off the screen will go blank. In either situation the faceplate light will also stop pulsing.
Do you have to have the software loaded to charge it's
No, not if you use lock charging.
You can also put the player in USB mass storage mode, explained in the manual.
How long should the battery last after being fully charged? They are depleting in about 4 hours time.
Totally depends on usage. If you skip tracks a lot, use high bit-rates, upload/download tracks to/from the player, and use the EQ or Smart Volume, then the battery life will be reduced significantly.
Also, what bit rate do you recommend for song downloads to get maximum usage?
The lower the better, but there's a trade-off between the battery life and the resulting audio quality that you might not be happy with. Refer to my battery curves thread to see how much battery you will save.

  • ZEN micro: problem with song/album/title/genre renaming after update - pls he

    hi!
after updating my zen micro to the new firmware (playforsure) and the necessary software update of the media source organizer - i wasn?t able to rename the title on the player - like before the update: it'ss only possible to rename them one by one and not e.g. a full album (genre).
BTW: why has the user interface changed that much - all songs i?ve arranged before the update had to be rearranged and that isn?t possible anymore in the way it was before...
    thx

    You can try these two:
    http://www.mp3tag.de/en/index.html
    http://www.snapfiles.com/get/godfather.html
If they're not to your liking, try Google. These are not the only ones, but they're good (and free). Tag & Rename is also very good, but it costs a few bucks.

  • Zen Micro - Problems with Zen Micro Media Explo

I've successfully installed the Zen Media Explorer and Media Source. I've used Zen Media explorer at work just fine but seem to be missing something on my home desktop. Everything in Media Explorer seems to work except for the "Rip Audio CD Tracks to Device" mode. When I select this feature in the main menu screen, it says insert audio cd in dri've, which I do. Then it says cd detected...but then all of the sudden I get a new dialog box that says "Error: Unable to load database component. The program will now exit." Has anyone else seen this? This is quite annoying as I have it working just fine at work and I think this is the most seamless method of getting cds tracks onto my micro....
Thanks for any help you can provide...
    Bryan

    Try these few things.....
    - Connect ur micro before u insert the CD
2 - Try reinstalling the program, which should normally do the trick
3 - Update your firmware. (not sure if that will help)
4 - Try to rip cds that are only copyrighted (rip only original cds that u get in stores)

  • Zen Micro Photo Randomly Shutting Down

&Zen Micro Photo Randomly Shutting DownU Hello there,
I have a Zen microphoto which I ahve had for about 3 years now and the only problem i ahve ahd before was a software issue that was fixed easily. Now I will turn my player on and it will randomly shut off and reset all of my settings. It most commonly happens when I move it from a desk to my pocket. And sometimes when i boot it up it will be in recovery mode, sometimes not. Other times it will boot and there will be random colored pixels on the screen. I really need some help cause i dont want? to but a new Mp3 player.
Oh and i have reformatted and reloaded the firmware twice already.
    Can anyone help me?

    Information on LiON battery lifespans.
<font face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif" size="2">A lithium-ion battery provides 300-500 discharge/charge cycles. The battery prefers a partial rather than a full discharge. Frequent full discharges should be avoided when possible. Instead, charge the battery more often or use a larger battery. There is no concern of memory when applying unscheduled charges.
Although lithium-ion is memory-free in terms of performance deterioration, batteries with fuel gauges exhibit what engineers refer to as "digital memory". Here is the reason: Short discharges with subsequent recharges do not provide the periodic calibration needed to synchronize the fuel gauge with the battery's state-of-charge. A deliberate full discharge and recharge every 30 charges corrects this problem. Letting the battery run down to the cut-off point in the equipment will do this. If ignored, the fuel gauge will become increasingly less accurate. (Read more in 'Choosing the right battery for portable computing', Part Two.)
Aging of lithium-ion is an issue that is often ignored. A lithium-ion battery in use typically lasts between 2-3 years. The capacity loss manifests itself in increased internal resistance caused by oxidation. Eventually, the cell resistance reaches a point where the pack can no longer deli'ver the stored energy although the battery may still have ample charge

  • No Zen Micro Problems, Post H

Well this is my first post on the forums and I am this close to buying a zen micro. I would have bought one yesterday until I stumbled upon the head-phone jack problem. I want to hear from people who have a zen micro problem free and how long you have had it. I've owned 3 previous creative players that have all worked great, so I'm hoping that there are only a small amount of people with this problem making all the noise (e.g. the sony psp dead pixel issue). So if you're happy with your zen micro let me know!!

    Kpm,
It's ok, most people miss that option at first so it's no biggie. Personally I own a Zen Micro and take is almost everywhere with me. I have had no major problems and the minor ones were self created. I would highly recommend it. Now I do have a bias (as I am a Creative Employee) but I personally love this player.

  • Creative ZEN MX problems with charging battery

/Creative ZEN MX problems with charging batteryHi!
I've bought Creative Zen MX player a couple months ago. First thing I noticed when I plug in it into my computer was that battery after 3 hours was not full, what is more computer disconnected with it couple times;/
After weeks or two when I tried to charge it i Went where I bought it and they said after some examination that it really didn't work
They've sent it to the service. I had t wait for the return two months!!! and at the end they said that that tiny usb wire was damaged not mp3.
OK . The battery was fully charged maybe on 5 attempts ;/
There is no problem in my computer because I tried it on several other and it did not work ;/ ?Please, help me
    Where is the problem?
?Why this player simply disconnect with my PC?

I was given this as a gift. I charged it for 8hrs when i got it and it showed fully charged. I have been trying to give it a full charge over the last 2 days once on a power adapter plugged into the wall the other through the USB port on my laptop .each for about 8hrs each. Using different cables. I remove the player and it shows full battery (never gives the plug icon though)and within 30 minutes of play music, I get the low battery warning. it was purchased on 0/6/200. nAlso it will not power on while charging. My original ZEN was able to play music when charging this one says DOCKED and will not repond to the power button being presses.

  • Zen micro sync with outlo

how do I sync with outlook? The softwear that the zen micro comes with isn't responding when I plug my mirco in, it says inte not connected even though it is (and I know it is becuase it syncs with napster...)
    lizy

First you need to get your computer to be able to recognize your player. You can find hundreds of posts here by doing a search. Then you have to use the Zen Micro Media Explorer and select the Sync Music and Outlook button.

  • How to install Zen Micro 5GB with firmware 2.00

How? I went to my store, and they said I must use "Sync" in WMP 0... but how ?

I for one don't understand your question... You may want to rephrase and elaborate a bit.
Are you talking about something to install on your PC? It's true that you can use WMP (Windows Media Player) to load music to a Zen Micro with 2.00.2. You could also install the specific version of Zen Explorer (see the download section of Creative.com). You need to get the right version, because the version of Zen Explorer on the CD in the box, only works on .x firmware

  • Suprise suprise, Zen Micro problems

Ack, I've officially lost the plot with Creative. When iPod came out I was the non-conformist, instead choosing Creative and giving them a chance. What a mistake! I bought a pink zen micro 5gb in 2005. It's been replaced NEW 3 TIMES in 2 YEARS. Soon to be 4 TIMES!!
st problem: headphone jack (they replaced it with a new 6 gb, nice of them)
2nd problem: zen wouldn't turn off
3rd and current problem: (does anyone have this problem I'm curious) Turn Zen on. Freezes at Zen logo and half of the logo disappears. Low pitched buzzing noise. Zen WILL NOT turn off. Remove battery to turn off. Replace battery. Loads library till near the end, freezes again. Will not turn off. This will continue until you put it into a power source, then eventually - music comes back on. I'd be lucky if the same thing didn't happen all over again turning it on the next time.
I was in San Fran recently and went to an Apple store and bought an iPod. I've lost faith in Creative and I definitely shall not be buying any more products. Hopefully they will replace this one and then I'm selling it on ebay. Good riddance.
With regard to customer service, in Ireland anyway, they were always brill and very helpful, can't complain there. They've shut down in Ireland now though so I'll have to search in England for a contact number.
All I can say is beware of Micros. Never again...

Sorry to hear of your problems with your Zens. My story is the opposite. I ought a 5 GB ZEn?Micro for my daughter probably fi've years ago. (She wanted an?iPod but since I really hate all things Apple/Mac/i, and I was paying,?I did some research and found the Creative Zen line -she loves it.)?I loved it so much I went right out and bought myself one! I loved that one so much I bought my younger daughter a MicroPhoto a couple years later. She loved that one so much I bought my son a Zen V Plus a year or so ago. I love Creative's stuff so much that I just bought myself a new Zen 6 GB. The battery on my original Zen Micro finally died - wouldn't hold a charge of more than an hour or so - so I bought a new battery for like $7 deli'vered, updated the firmware to make it a PlaysForSure device, and gave it to my wife. No Zen I have ever bought has suffered any problems, at all, ever! ALL of them are still working. All my iPod-loving clueless friends are constantly having to buy new ones because they break so much. And oh yeah, the iPod audio quality SUCKS - at least compared to Creatives which is outstanding. So, again, sorry to hear about your problems. Good luck with your foray into iLand though.

  • Zen Micro frozen with the word the "Creative" stuck on the scr

Yesterday, whil listening to music, my Zen froze up (understand, I just bought this a week ago). So. I tried to shut it off. Nothing. So. I took the battery out. When I put it back in, the word "Creative" stays stuck on my screen. I've tried taking the battery back out, putting it back in. Still the same thing. So. I tried hocking it back up to my computer. It doesn't even acknowledge the device. Nothing is working. What should I do?
    Brenda

    Brenda,
Can you try getting the player into Recovery Mode? If it can't do that either, it's possible there is a hardware problem with the player (contact Customer Support for assistance). If you can get into Recovery Mode, try the Clean Up first.

  • Zen Micro problems URGENT h

Hi i have a problem with my zen micro.
when i turn it on e get the following menu
    Recovery Mode
    - Clean up
    2- Format all
    3- Reload Firmware
    4- Reboot
i tried all of these butit stays the same...
when i get the firmware it doesn't detect my device but with my friends Zen it does...
What is wrong and how can i fix it

If you can't load the firmware onto it, and the player won't get out of Recovery Mode, it sounds like it's probably faulty. You didn't mention when (or where) you purchased the player, but it would be best to contact Customer Support directly for assistance at this point.
