Zen Micro questions and concer

Hello, I've had my Zen Micro 5gb for about 2 /2 months now and while some of these problems have been around for a while I thought I'd ask on here to see if anyone else has these problems as well. First of all I have the new firmware ..0 installed it right after buying the player. Now for my concerns,
) I've noticed that I only get about 8ish hours of playback on a full charge (which is roughly about 2 hours to go from bar to full) volume between 0 and 5 and used for periods of usually an hour at a time. Most of the songs on the player are CD quality bit rate (28 is it's) and my question is, is this normal? The quoted time is up to 2 hours battery life.
2) I have the idle shutoff time set to 5 min of inactivity and the sleep timer at 30 min. The problem that I've found and I don't know if this is how it's supposed to be, which seems strange if it is, is that when I turn on the power (and is where I want it to be so I don't adjust it at all) it shuts off after 5 minutes which I find annoying. But, I've also found that even if I move through some screens and change the song and set it back in my pocket, it still shuts off after 5 minutes, only when I adjust the volume (I still need to test this to make sure that that's what it is) does it play for the full 30 min.
3) When the Micro starts up (while not on the 4hr standby there is?), so when it goes through the full Creative and Zen Micro screens at the startup there is a glitch where the "Zen Micro" screen stays on for up to a full 0 seconds and about 5 seconds into it there is a box halfway up the 'ZEN' where the letters don't show, I don't really know how else to explain it but I'll try "drawing it".

(It looks good writing it out, but alas the formatting doesn't seem to work posting it)
After about 5 seconds (it varies) it changes from the first to the second for about another 5 seconds. The only thing is, it does this every so often and is not consistent as to when it does it. The music starts playing while it's doing this as well. I'm also wondering if the Creative screen (without the copyright stuff) is supposed to last for a full 0 seconds like it seems to be now as that seems quite excessi've but I am not sure what the 'norm' is.
4) I've had it freeze on the "Shutting down..." screen but taking the battery out and replacing it seems to fix that, as others have discussed.
If someone could fill me in on what's "normal" or not and your own experiences with this it would be greatly appreciate. Thank you in advance.Message Edited by Guildenstern87 on -06-2005 :57 PMMessage Edited by Guildenstern87 on -06-2005 :57 PM

. The 2 hours is based on using the player playing 28kbit/s MP3s continuously. Anything you do to the player in terms of frequent skipping of tracks, higher bit-rate tracks, downloading/uploading etc. will shorten the battery life. See the FAQ post for lots on this.
2. Known bug.
3. It just seems to be some innocuous screen write bug. It doesn't seem to do any harm other than look naff.
4. Mine doesn't freeze on shutting down. Perhaps try a disk cleanup from rescue mode?

  • Newbie here...some Zen Micro questions/suggestio

Hi im new Okay i have some questions for y'all:
Will having only usb .0 work for a zen micro? I have a n200 and it works fine, just wondering if the micro will work on my computer too.
Yes, I recently ordered a Zen Micro. Unfortunately that was before i came to this forum, and after witnessing that massi've 08 page headphone jack thread, I'm getting very worried. Are there any people out there who are satisfied with the micro? If you have problems, don't reply with a MICRO SUX0RZ **bleep** THE MICRO. I need some feel-good stories!
And one quick final clarification about the headphone jack problems: Is the problem actually fixed in the later shipments of the zen micro? I'm pretty sure mine will be a later model since it's not going to come with a wall charger, but I haven't been able to find a definiti've answer for it. Is there anyone out there who've never had this problem? again, that stupid 08page thread
    Thanks!

got my zen micro5gb as a gift, loaded this thing with everything indie... started to notice if i moved a little bit the music would cut out and it would be music distorted, without the vocal, another movement and its all back. so i figured it was bad headphones, the zen ones hurt youre ears. so i bought jvc buds $22 nyc bargain, they work great, then suddenly same thing..in and out so i got a rma and sent it , next thing i know now i have a 6 gig nice right, i charge it up and here i am sitting here the darn thing isnt being connected by my computer, i cant load music on or anything, so im figuring buy another usb. - 2.0 cord. i've already written a letter in, i dont see why there isnt 24hr help, alot of products to offer and not enough help. 2 days for an email reply, ha.. i can buy a new one in that time. -mc

  • Travel Dock Zen Micro Question

    Hello everyone,
For my holiday I want to buy a set of speakers for my Zen Micro 6GB. I looked around a little bit and found a couple of speakersets. One of them is the Zen Micro traveldock. It looks great and its very clever made with all its features. But now I have some questions about this:
    1. Can I charge my Zen Micro with the Travel Dock without the USB-connection, so only the DC-connector ? Because in the description at the Dutch Creatice site it`s not very clear, there they wrote down that you can charge the Zen when you connect the travel dock to a USB-device, so i`m not sure you can do it with the DC only ?
    2. Is the soundquality good ? Well, everybody has something different to say about it, but in general you can say something about it. Is it bad, normal or good ? And is the volume power a little bit good ?

My Micro is playing in the TravelDock as I write this. And I can confirm that the lid does close with the Micro in place. The unit has a good sound. I've got it full volume right now. There is no deep bass, but again, these are .5 inch speakers. I will try a powered subwoofer I have with the unit later. There is enough power to fill an average size room or to enjoy the music outside. There is a switch that alters the sound field from narrow to wide. The effect is noticeable if you are listening for it. The connection between the TravelDock and the Micro is easy to make and the Micro sits very securely in the dock. The lid works as desktop stand as well and is held in place by two rubber grippers that are rather stiff and needed some coaxing to work. I will expect these will loosen with use. The documentation on Creative's website says the TravelDock doesn't include batteries, but mine did have 4 Eveready alkalines in the box.
Not too many people have seen the MicroPhoto yet, but apparently it is not exactly the same size as the Micro. There is a small rubber self adhesi've spacer included with the TravelDock. The manual says this small spacer needs to be inserted into the dock if you plug in a MicroPhoto, So, I'm guessing the MicroPhoto is a few millimeters thinner than the Micro. Is that right?

  • [Zen Micro]Questions about the Firmw

    Hello,
I have some questions about the firmware of the Zen Micro
. Can I use the Zen Micro without any Software (MediaSource?) on my PC (winXP) when im using the Firmware Creative Zen Micro *PlaysForSure/MTP Firmware 2.00.2 ? This means that i copy my Music only by drag&drop from the Explorer after my Computer has detected the Zen Micro as a Removable Disk!
    2. I know that the Zen Micro has two parts with the Normal Firmware. The "Removable Disk" Part and the "Playable" Part which can only used by the Software! But what happens if my . question is right. How can i seperate this two parts?
    Thanks for answers

I don't have the 2.x firmware, but I think I'm correct in saying this :
with the 2.x firmware, your Micro becomes an MTP compatible device, which can be recognized on PCs having an MTP compatible OS (operating system). For the moment, the only OS that fits the bill to my knowledge, is Win XP with Windows Media Player 0. In this combination of MTP device + MTP OS, you don't need to install other drivers, and you can do drag and drop
BUT ! The 2.x firmware doesn't make your device a "removable disc" in the traditional sense of the word. It doesn't become a file system, like a USB memory stick.
I hope I was clear enough to see the difference :-)Message Edited by fred_be9300 on 04-03-2005 02:52 AM

  • Zen Micro question - please h

Ok, so I received my Zen Micro 5g in the mail today, and I can't seem to install the software onto my computer. I have Windows XP, and even after closing all the applications and making sure I'm logged on as an administrator, it still won't work. Every time I insert the disk, the Creative screen comes up, but when I go to press Next, the DemoShield player closes and says that it has encountered a problem and must be closed. Does anyone know what this problem might be and is there any way I can fix it's Thanks.

Got Quicktime 7 installed? See this thread.
You can also download the required drivers and software from the downloads page, but make sure Quicktime 7 is updated.

  • Zen Micro Freezing and recovery m

Hey folks,my zen micro is about two and a half years old and suddenly the other day it stopped responding and went into recovery mode. i hav clicked on clean up - nothing happens, format all - it freezes, reload fireware - it freezes and finally reboot - and i am brought right back where i started. When i?plugged it into my pc it became unstable and noticed that all my music had been deleted and the computer doesnt always recognise my zen. I downloaded a new fireware from this website and tryed to install it's but it wouldn't let me saying that there?was a program associated with the mp3 open and to close?the program?first and i dont know what that program is. this all just happened today, one day its working fine and the next i have lost everything. can anyone please give me advice. Thanks,Stephen

I have the Zen Vision M and I am having the exact same problem! I cannot fix my zen. And when I try to download the firmware from this site, the site does not recognize my zen!

  • Zen Micro Up and Died this morn

I purchased a Zen Micro 6GB player in mid-october, and this morning it was dead. The power switch would do nothing. Plugging it into a USB port would do nothing. Removing and replacing the battery would do nothing. I was able to exchange it for a new one at the store. However, I'm puzzled as to whether anything I did may have contributed to the demise of the player.
I applied the PTF firmware upgrade in order to take advantage of subscription services for Yahoo music. I had Windows 2000 running at home, and was running into the charging problem.
I had patched the headphones into the CD input of my stereo at home (using a headphone to L/R cable adapter), and while I was messing with the cables, discovered that my Tivo has usb ports. Obviously, the Tivo was not going to recognize the player, but I figured I might be able to use it to charge the player. I tried it out and it worked.
So, a couple times, I plugged my player into the stereo and the Tivo, and played music on my stereo while it charged. I had the player sitting on top of the TV, next to a shielded center speaker.
Last night I left it like that overnight, but in the morning, the unit would not turn on.
Now, I've come across the posting about putting the player in removable storage mode in order to charge it on the Windows 2000 computer (and I'm going to be upgrading to Windows XP in the next month or two), so I'm not going to try the above method of charging the new player. But, I just want to try to figure out whether anything I did would have killed it, in part as a caution to anyone else who might come up with this idea.

kengwall wrote:But, I just want to try to figure out whether anything I did would have killed it, in part as a caution to anyone else who might come up with this idea.
Perhaps charging via the TiVo, if it wasn't supplying the correct voltage and/or current. Hard to say for sure though.

  • Zen micro connection and firmware prob

so i have a zen micro and i'm having a problem with it. originally it froze on the creative screen after working fine the last time i turned it on, so i took the battery out and did a clean up and that didnt work so i reformatted it. now it doesnt freeze anymore but when i turn it on it says firmware problem and goes straight to recovery mode. so i tried to hook it up to my computer but my computer doesnt reconize that it is there. i've never had this happen before. i tried hooking it up to another computer that i had never used the player with and it prompted me to install a driver or something but i did not have a cd or the software to install it. i dont think i ever installed any drivers or anything when i originally used the micro on my computer, i just put music on it through windows media player. if anyone has any suggestions please help

    i have the same problem

  • My Zen Micro froze and just won't W

I've seen posts about this same problem, but I found no solution
My problem: While I was listening to a song, it suddenly stopped. I tried to press the play button over and over again but it would not play. The entire touch pad didn't work. I couldn't turn it off either. I took out the battery and placed it back in. Once I put the battery in, a screen comes up as "CREATIVE" and freezes right there. I go to the recovery menu, but none of the options helped. I would try to scan it, but the box would just say "Scanning disc..." and will not change. Finally my battery would just die. I tried to hook up the USB cord and start up the Zen Micro program, but it doesn't work. The program won't even come up. My Zen also makes a strange sound when I put the battery in.
I e-mailed Creative earlier today, hopefully I'll get a response soon.
Does anyone know what I can do? I've read some replies people have made to others who had similar problems, but I'm not quite sure how to follow their directions. If anyone can help me, please try to make the directions really easy to follow.
    Thanks.

If none of the options in Recovery Mode help, then it sounds like there's a problem with the player. Customer Support should be able to help you in that case.

  • Zen Micro organizer and Zen touch physical s

Well, I just bought a zen xtra and went through hell with it so i had to take it back and now im a little weary about getting ANY MP3 player, but i've decided im going to give it another try.
i have a few simple questions:
the organizer on the micro is very appealing to me (im amazingly disorganized), the way the site describes it makes it sound like i could pull up my organizer in the middle of class and put something like "paper due Feb22." Yet it also says that outlook is required. So do i have to be at home synced up with outlook to use my organizer or can i add/remove things in the middle of nowhere?
Also, how large is the 20gb zen touch compared to the 30gb zen xtra? i dont mean storage, im talking about physical dimensions. according to the specs the touch is slightly smaller than the xtra, but i was wondering if its shape made much of a difference
how well does the FM tuner work on the micro? can the micro be hooked up to a stereo that has an mp3 input? how much space does the voice recorder use on the micro? say i recorded a 45 minute lecture, would that be almost a gigabyte?
thanks for all your help guys!

The Zen Touch is not as big as it looks. The pictures are very decieving.
Syncing the Micro with Outlook is very easy using the sync manager. You cannot add new entries on the player itself (I don't see how you could easily even if the option was there), they'll have to be added into Outlook first.
The FM tuner on the Micro is not bad, it uses the headphones as an antenna. Reception highly depends on the area you li've in. Haven't tried voice recording yet, so can't comment on that. But a little extra is the ability to record from the FM radio.

  • Micro media explorer not recognizing zen micro, organizer and Windows does.

I recently purchased a Micro 6, did all program installs. etc. and could never get it to work properly, exchanged it for another, had all the problems to get it recognized by Windows etc. and through this site, managed to get compatable with zen organizer and windows media player0, but the micro media explorer refuses to see it! I checked the registry and noticed that the two units are registered there (usb), could that be the problem, and if so ,how do I correct it's
It seems to me that I uninstalled the first unit, that this not clear the registry of it also?
    Thanks in advance.

I have KINDA the same problem. The Zen Media Explorer doesn't reconize my device and I don't know HOW to make lists etc in the MediaSource Organizer (is there any tutorial f?r it or something? i need lots of help there.. how to make lists and how to get em into the Zen).
I've had to copy / paste music to my zen manually.. which takes longer than necessary and I can't make fancy lists etc.. Help would be very appreciated :/
Oh, and I have version 2..02 if that makes any diffrence.
    Thanks.

  • Zen Micro and Windows XP trou

I have had my Micro for about 2 months, and used Windows 98. I bought a new computer (with windows XP pro) and installed my micro. I have been running into some issues: the computer won't recognize my micro in Creative Mediasource, but does under My Computer. I have installed the Plays for Sure firmware (2. or something).
My main question: if I want to play songs through my Micro and computer, how can I do that? The computer doesn't seem to recognize the Micro as another hard dri've, I can only get it through the Zen Micro Explorer, and that is confusing enough.
Windows Media Player 0 seems to need internet access to verify the song licenses, but my computer is a laptop, and I don't currently have internet access.Message Edited by porsche997 on 07-23-2005 2:3 AM

We're all sort of screwed on this issue. I've had the same problem from the beginning with my Creative Zen Micro. I've upgraded to the latest firmware, run disk clean up, done everything suggested in the forum yet my computer NEVER recognizes the Zen Micro. I just have to keep plugging & unplugging & plugging & plugging the Micro and eventually I've be able to transfer music.
But, I repeat, my computer (Windows XP) never recognizes the Micro. My computer has no problem recognzing my jump dri've.

  • Question regarding transfering tracks from current Zen Micro to new Zen V Pl

Thank You in advance to anyone who can assist me.
I just ordered a new Zen V Plus and will want to get all my tracks on it when it arri'ves. My current player is a Zen Micro 5GB and I've loved it but as of late have been having problems with one of the touch pad buttons and, of course, it's out of warrenty. I just found the Zen V Plus 4GB on sale for $59.99 which I feel is a great price point so I bought one. So regarding the issue of getting my music from the Micro to the V Plus, is there a way to transfer from one to the other or would I have to somehow transfer onto my PC then to the V Plus?
Second question I just thought of, Can I use a memory stick(USB Flash Dri've) to back-up my tracks?
    Thanks again,
    Mark in San Diego

    Hi,
You could transfer the music content of your Zen Micro to your Zen V Plus without transferring it to the PC first. Do the following steps:
. Connect one player at a time in your PC (XP O/S) and make sure that both of the player is detected.
    2. If Windows have detected it, click on the option Open to View Files.
    3. Open up the Music folder of both players.
    4. From there, copy and paste whatever music tracks you would like to transfer from Zen Micro to Zen V Plus.
It's a good idea to have a back up of all your data and you could use a USB Flash dri've to store it all.
    Hope this hel
    ps.

  • Just 5 questions about the Zen Micro Ph

HiJust 5 Q's about that player which i hope i get clear answers 4 'emcan i buy the charger designed for the original Zen Micro 2 be used with this player? if not, is there an additional charger i can buy ?2) How much time it takes the player 2 charge from the USB port and how much does it take in case of using a charger?3) Can i simply plug the player in my PC's USB and boot up windows XP 2 see the player simply as an additional dri've without the need of any special drivers or programs so that i transfer files between my PC and the player with simple drag and dropping4) Can i transfer non-media files (books - programs...etc) using the same method in question 3 without having 2 set up first a dedicated space on the player 4 receiving such files (<--- This is the way which has 2 be done with the old Zen Micros)5) Any dedicated volume control on it yet or it still misses it like old Zen Micros ?THANKS A LOT

Hi Catherina - thx 4 the reply but yr answer implies that the old Zen Micro can be seen in windows explorer directly as an additonal dri've and this contradicts all the reviews i have read about that in order to transfer non-media files to the player, i have 2 either use the bundled program "Zen Media Explorer" or the firmware itself (in case i am not allowed 2 install software on some computer i wanna transfer files from or to) but i was speaking about plugging the player simply in the USB to be detected by XP, assigned to it a dri've letter and then i can start copying files from/to it right away without any additional extra software installed or anything i must configure on the player itself. IMHO, this is how the MP3 players should behave 4 extra simplicity and ease of use
SUGGESTION: can u plz make video clips showing how 2 use the player in all aspects. I have seen that with the iri'ver players where some people (i am not sure if those people are the guys @ iri'ver themselves or just some fans) have posted numerous video clips showing the iri'ver player in all aspects so the end user like me feel like he is using the player in his hands even if he/she hasn't purchased it yet - something that will be very effecti've on people's decision purchase. Wish to see video clips showing all aspects of the Zen Micro player and may be other players

  • Some questions and suggestions concerning Zen Mi

    Hello everybody!!
Firstly I'd like to say that I've already looked through all the knowledge base and web forum and unfortunately I haven't found out the answers for my doubts (sorry if there are these answers I couldn't find), so I'm here.
. Is there any way Zen Micro could display polish diacritic marks (from id tags)?(e.g. polish "l" with line/accent is never displayed, "z" with dot/accent is shown up as square)
    2. You advise to plug AC adapter to Zen Micro first and then to the wall socket, so is it the same way I should do with usb cable? I mean, when I plug my ZM to the usb cable already connected to PC, it will be ok? So, is it any difference in usb connection order?
    3. Is it possible to include in new firmware more sensiti've FM radio, at least change 00 kHz step to 50 kHz step? On the air where I li've there are a dozen or so radio stations and I could find only a few of them :-/ (yes, I have read "How to improve FM Radio reception" in the knowledge base )
    4. Is it any possibility to reset the "play count" in Zen Micro? If no, maybe it will be in the new firmware? (it would be a great option)
    5. What's about the "look up artist" function? I think it doesn't work properly. It should return all albums of this artist, not only currently played!
    6. In the mp3 format (ID3 v2 tag) we can set our own genre name. Why doesn't Zen Micro show that?
Thanks for all answers! Regards form Poland!
p.s. sorry for my not very good english
    /Greg

hi, sorry to disturb ya, but any ideas, solutions?
btw: after a few weeks of using the Zen Micro, I come to a conclusion that the "The Zen Micro Power Loss (Battery Drain) issue" is very bothersome problem . Creative, if you can, please fix it.
