Zen Micro: Re-ordering tracks in a playli

Hi. I love my new Zen Micro, there is just one thing that I haven't worked out with it yet.
Can you, and how do you, change the order of tracks in a playlist, and in the Now Playing playlist screen? I just want to be able to move a single track up or down in the list. I remember being able to do this with my old old Zen USB2.0 by just choosing 'move' or something like that after pressing the menu button. No such thing seems to be in the menu on the Micro.
If it turns out that this is not a current feature, may I make a polite request that it be implemented in a future firmware release? I'd think it'd be a pretty simple thing to add, and without it, the ability to create playlists on the fly is a bit crippled, don't you think?
Thanks.

<EM>"may I make a polite request that it be implemented in a future firmware release?"</EM>

just wondering... I just got a Zen Micro, and have only visited these forums for days...
I've seen a few other folks in these forums request, demand, suggest that functions be added to firmware updates.
Is Creative actually in the habit of adding ANY additional functionality to any existing product, through firmware? Or do they just save those ideas for new products, and make us buy those instead?

  • Does Zen Micro avoid duplicate songs in a playli

Suppose I have a playlist with 00 songs in it already in the Zen Micro. I make another playlist and this one has some of
the same songs in it that the first playlist does. Does the software not allow the duplicate songs
to be placed in the new playlist or do I wind up with duplicates in the new playlist? In this example
I would be loading new songs to the Zen Micro, not creating a new playlist from songs already
    in the Zen Micro.
I just purchased a Zen Micro and am just learning how to use it.
    Thanks for your help,

The playlist can have duplicates in it, of course playlists are just shortcuts to tracks so you aren't creating duplicate physical files on the player.
Notmad Explorer?has a function for removing duplicates from playlists.

  • Zen Micro, WMA, Track number tag

Here is my problem : the track number tag of all my wma files contains 0(zero) on my Zen Micro, whereas it is fine on my PC !

I tried to use only the WM/Track tag... no success !
I tried to use both tags... no success !
Next, I modifed the track number tag directly using the Zen Micro Media Explorer. This works BUT if I transfer the wma file from my audio device to my PC and back from my PC to my Zen Micro then the track number tag contains 0 again !
Are you guys aware of this bug ?
Is the Creative tech support aware of it ?

OK, just for you (and to satisfy my own curiousity), I ripped?two tracks using?the WMA 9. codec and Easy CD-DA Extractor?(with metadata enabled of course) at 64 kbit/s to the PC. I copied it using MediaSource 3.0.09 to my Zen Micro (.02.05). The track data including track number is still there.

  • Zen Micro Track Numbe

I?ve had a quick search through the archi'ves on this found similar stuff but not this one.
Ok I have my albums in the player using the Zen Explorer. My problem is all the track numbers are 0.
I don?t want to go to each on and type numbers because I am right lazy! So can you somehow select all the
Track numbers and get the program to assign a track number?
With them being all zero or a mixture of 0 ? - 5 etc does this affect the way the zen micro plays them back?

Most tagging programs will do this for you. I use MP3 Library, where you select the tracks and assuming they're in order you just select the automatic option, and save all, then it autonumbers.
The Micro will use the track number field to play in order.

  • Question regarding transfering tracks from current Zen Micro to new Zen V Pl

Thank You in advance to anyone who can assist me.
I just ordered a new Zen V Plus and will want to get all my tracks on it when it arri'ves. My current player is a Zen Micro 5GB and I've loved it but as of late have been having problems with one of the touch pad buttons and, of course, it's out of warrenty. I just found the Zen V Plus 4GB on sale for $59.99 which I feel is a great price point so I bought one. So regarding the issue of getting my music from the Micro to the V Plus, is there a way to transfer from one to the other or would I have to somehow transfer onto my PC then to the V Plus?
Second question I just thought of, Can I use a memory stick(USB Flash Dri've) to back-up my tracks?
    Thanks again,
    Mark in San Diego

    Hi,
You could transfer the music content of your Zen Micro to your Zen V Plus without transferring it to the PC first. Do the following steps:
. Connect one player at a time in your PC (XP O/S) and make sure that both of the player is detected.
    2. If Windows have detected it, click on the option Open to View Files.
    3. Open up the Music folder of both players.
    4. From there, copy and paste whatever music tracks you would like to transfer from Zen Micro to Zen V Plus.
It's a good idea to have a back up of all your data and you could use a USB Flash dri've to store it all.
    Hope this hel

  • When you order your Zen Micro, make sure you know what you're getti

I recently about a 5gb Zen Micro Mp3 player and went through a lot of trouble to get it, but I learned a lot. Read on:
First, there are two types of packaging for Zen Micros, one that includes only the player, the cords, the manual, the software, a pouch and the battery, and another that also has a case with stand and belt clip attachments. Most of the retailers are selling both for the same price and many of them have them both in stock at the same time. The boxes are two different sizes and the larger one (almost 0'by 7') has the case and attachments. Get your money's worth and ask what's the box.
Second, NEVER NEVER NEVER buy from a company in British Columbia, Canada called Can Computer (www.cancomputer.com). It is BY FAR the WORST retailer I've EVER come into contact with!
I ordered from this company after doing a little bit of research and they seemed like a decent company. I was WRONG. I ordered my player. A day later they called me to tell me that the colour I wanted was sold out but hadn't been posted on the website, so I picked a new colour. The company only ships by reg mail so after a week of waiting, I got my mp3 player in the mail.
Now, when you buy the player from a decent retailer, as I did afterwards from The Source by Circuit City, the box is rapped in plastic and the inside box is taped. Everything in the box is packaged and sealed including the battery and the software. Everything is neatly placed in the box and the player is untouched and is protected by plastic stri
    ps.
The battery is outside the player. This is the way they should all be according to Creative Labs and all the other retailers I've spoken to.
When I received my supposedly "new" player from Can Computer, there was no outside plastic, the seal on the inside of the box was broken. The outside AND inside was covered in dirt. The inside contents looked like they had been dumped out onto a dirty floor and thrown back in again. Everything was opened, including the software. The battery was already inside the player and it was covered in dirt. When I took it out of the player, there was a piece of tape (the kind of scotch tape you get on a roll) holding the top of the battery together and the casing was warped. My manual was mangled. On top of that, there were parts missing from my box. I received the box that should have included the casing and the attachments. Neither were there. Also missing were my warranty cards and the casing to the manual. The cords that I receieved were not creative merchandise. As you can imagine, I wasn't very happy.
When I called the company, the Sales Manager was incredibly rude to me. He refused to apologise and seemed to make every effort to deter me from getting refund. He tried to tell me that it was normal for the player to arri've that way and that tape on the battery was something that was normal. He also said he would only refund my shipping costs to send it back to him if he saw it and believed that I was telling the truth. He was so rude that when I explained to him what happened, he had the nerve to say, "So, what do you want me to do about it's". To prove my point, I called the retailers around my city and asked them what the box, battery and player should look like. I also called Creative. All of them said that what I got from Can Computer was abnormal. It was only then, when I proved that they'd sent me used and defecti've products and demanded that I be given a full refund, that the Sales Manager of Can Computer agree with me.
This is the worst company I've ever dealt with. DO NOT buy ANYTHING from this company!!!
Do your research and if you can buy one from a retailer in your area, do so. It's worth it. Futureshop will match any internet retailer's price, and The Source gives over the counter replacement.

  • Media Source - 'file of this name already exists' transfering tracks from Zen Micro to

I've come home for the weekend, and I'm trying to transfer a few albums from my Zen Micro to my Mum's PC for her. Normally this works fine, but for some reason today I keep getting the message 'A file of this name already exists' for about 80% of the tracks I try to transfer. One or two tracks from each album will work and the rest will fail.
These are new tracks and they definitely aren't already in her music library - I've double checked the C dri've too.
I'm given the option to overwrite the exisiting tracks, so I gave that a try with one album, but the tracks still aren't didn't show on there once I'd transfered, despite the track number not going up, so god knows what's been overwritten with those!
    Can anyone help?
    Cheers!

Your firmware is not the PlaysForSure version.
Anyway, I just want to make sure that you have set up the directory and file naming convention correctly for MediaSource. Here is what you should do:
    - Launch Creative MediaSource Oragnizer.
    - Go to Tools->Settings->PC Music Library and click Properties. Set your preferred folder and file naming convention. Close the setting page.
    - In the Sources window, click to view PC Music Library.
    - Go to View->Right Panel View and select to view your MP3 player.
    - Transfer the tracks from your MP3 player to MediaSource's PC Music Library by clicking the arrow pointing from right to left.
    - If you have updated the track information of the tracks in your MP3 player, the updated track information will also be imported into the PC Music Library database. However, the tags of the files are not updated. Here is what you need to do. Right click the PC Music Library node in the Sources window or right click on any tracks in the PC Music Library window and select "Update Tag". This will update the tag of all the tracks or the selected tracks with the track information as seen in the PC Music Library.

  • Zen micro: mine displays incorrect track duration t

    Hello all,
I've had my zen mirco since january 2005, and i've noticed that a bunch of the tracks display the incorrect duration time...usually by around 40 seconds. for example, windows (and windows media player) will say a track is 6:02 duration and zen explorer and the device itself will say the duration is 5:35.
in fact, a bunch of my songs on my zen micro say that the duration time is 0:00 when they clearly are not. when these tracks are played on the device, the track time bar is completely full and plays normally.
has anyone else noticed problems with duration times?
although all the songs play normally (ie. they dont get cut off) its just annoying that i payed so much money for a device that shows incorrect information. and when i try to skim through a track that shows 0:00 duration, it just skips to next song when i press the >> button. weird huh?

As per the FAQ, it's down to the ears of the individual. You might prefer a particular codec or bit-rate, whereas someone else might not like it. It's best to experiment for yourself.
In terms of MP3 though, LAME is widely acknowledged as being the better codec for high bit-rate music encoding. Most rippers can be configured to use this.

  • Zen Micro: Is the gap between tracks nor

I bought a Zen Micro mainly because I was told that it does not insert a gap between tracks. The trouble is that mine does insert a tiny, but incredibly annoying, blip between tracks.
I would really appreciate if another Zen Micro owner could tell me if this gap is normal or there is something wrong with my unit. I have tried 3 different levels of firmware, various formats and bit rates, but each time media player plays tracks seamlessly, but the Zen Micro inserts the gap.
    Thanks in advance,
    Ian

There is a somewhat technical reason as to why mp3 files cannot play seamlessly. Its because each part of the mp3 is split up into frames. You can only have frames, you can't have half frames or /4 frames. So I guess when a song ends, the little gap is the rest of the frame filling in space so it can be read properly. There is only one player that I know of that can actually skip the blank part of the frame and play gaplessly, I think its one of the Rio players but I can't remember to be honest
If I'm completely wrong in my explanation, someone please correct me

  • Deleting Tracks Through Zen Micro Organi

I used Zen Micro Organizer to delete duplicate tracks from the player but although the tracks were deleted in the organizer, they remain on the Zen Micro player. I tried using the synch feature but it says there are no tracks to transfer. Deleting tracks one-by-one on the player itself is tedious. How can I mark and delete the duplicate tracks off the player using Zen Micro Organizer?

  • Zen micro - all tracks go

i've had my zen micro for months now and i've gradually filled the dri've to capacity. this morning when i turned it on it went into the "rebuilding library" screen and when it started up there were no tracks on it! wtf?

It sounds like some form of corruption occurred which made it think all the files on the device were corrupt also. Perhaps you should reformat the player before downloading the files again.

  • Tracks in Zen Micro not displaying in MediaSou

I have had a Zen Micro for about 6 months. Until recently there have been no problems. The player worked fine and interfaced great with the software applications. I recently bought a Micro Photo and installed the software for it on my pc. After I did so I began having problems with the original Micro. When I connect the Micro to the pc it shows as docked, MediaSource opens and asks me if I want to organize my files. The Micro displays in MediaSource but when I try to organize none of my tracks display. The tracks are on the player and play just fine. Also, when I tried to create a playlist on the player itself it tells me there is "no free space" although it shows I have 843MB of space left. Can anyone help me. I do not want to have to wipe the player clean and reload everything. There is too much on it.

When you update the firmware, you have to update the software. The latest version of Mediasource and the PFS driver is located on Creative's Download page.

  • Zen micro - "unable to copy protected track" when i try to copy music back to

I've had a zen micro for a couple of years. love it, and have spent hours copying my cds across to it; making playlists etc?just recently the player has started going wrong; not working; freezing. Am getting scared and thinking about getting a newer model. problem is that I have got all my music on the player now and have got a new pc since I loaded most of the tracks. I have tried to copy the music back from the player to my pc but I always get the message "unable to copy protected track". Is there anyway round it's? what does this mean?I don't want to have to start again loading all the music up from cds - it's already taken bloody hours, esp putting the playlists together.

    markpilks,
Those audio tracks are protected with DRM protection. The protection disallow them from syncing back to a computer. Did you rip those audio tracks from Windows Media Player? If you did, you probably didn't disable the Copy Protect Music option and thus all WMA audio tracks you ripped will have this DRM protection.
