Zen Micro RMA experie

According to Canada Post parcel tracking, my Micro was deli'vered to Creative on April 5. But today, April 8, Creative has it as "Not yet received" and "Not tested."
I keep picturing the huge bins of returned Micros, down there in Oklahoma, each with a faulty headphone jack. How long will it take to get to mine? They haven't even scanned it in as received. How do I know that each day they don't dump a few hundred more into the bin on top of it's
Creative says it could take 0 days to get to it, and I'm thinking it might.
Now I'm wondering what to do when the new one fails. I guess I'll try a fix with hot glue or some paper or something, because by that time my warranty will have expired; and if that doesn't work I'll move on to another brand of player. Maybe an IRi'ver - they sound pretty good. I like how they allow you to use folders to organize your music.
I'd be interested in hearing other RMA experiences. How long did it take to get it back from Creative? was it fixed? Did it break again?

As far as the question of why it might take four days for it to show up as arri'ved in the system. First off shipments tend to arri've at the end of the day so it may have already been late in the day when it arri'ved. Also each device is checked when it arri'ves, if a ship day is particularly heavy it can take a couple days to get everything in the system. However, the ten business day average takes this into account. The count starts from the moment it arri'ves at our door.
Jeremy
Edit: Also wanted to clarify that the 0 business days are the average turn around time. This means that it should be expected to ship out from us in 0 business days from the day we receive it.

  • My Zen Micro RMA Experie

Well, I just got my Zen Micro RMA back yesterday after sending it in for the faulty headphone jack problem. I got a refurbished unit that had been upgraded to the .02.05 firmware version.
I'm not exactly thrilled with it. First off, the rear door you slide to remove the battery is loose and keeps opening up with a slight touch. My original player did not have this problem.
Secondly, when transferring a lot of information, the player locks up or I get a transfer error. My old player never had this problem. I first started to reload the songs using Creative MediaSource (about 4GB of songs) and I kept getting transfer errors. I had to load the songs in chunks for it to transfer properly and it took quite a while.
Also, when I create a long playlist (say 200 songs) the player and software locks up. Again, my old player never had this problem.
What gives? I really don't want to have to spend more money to ship it back for another RMA. I'm frustrated and was wondering if anyone had any advice.

Not easily. I backed up all the songs from my original ZM to my computer's hard dri've. I figured I would transfer everything to my RMA ZM no problem but wasn't so fortunate. I'll try on another pc though and see how it goes. I guess I can reformat the thing but then I'd have to transfer all the songs again. Thanks for your reply. I appreciate it.

  • Zen Micro RMA questio

I got a question for all the creative zen micro mp3 player owners. My sister and I just just our Zen's back from Creative for the RMA services. Mine had the earphone jack problems and was freezing up @ the creative bootup logo. My sisters problem was only locking up and freezing @ that bootup logo screen. Now im wondering since mostly all Zen Micro's have this problem... did they fix our players or just PIITB us over with a replacement? If they sent us a replacement than most likly it going to face the same problems in the near furture. We both received the same colors back, but it looks kind of new but were not exactly sure.
Oh ya, i sent it in on monday and they sent it back out on friday ;/ Kinda of quick huh?
ASSY, Zen Micro 5GB Red PD-MD0004 xxxxxxxxxxxxx Product Not Yet Tested
Well i never rcheked my RMA Status before i got it back.. i just got it back and checked online and it says that lol. :/ WTH
Heres my RMA Number for any CL mods- 5nov36339
:/ My serial number is differnt i just notice fro mthe RMA screen. So did you guys reinforce the earphone jack problem or just sent me another which is going to break just to shut me up for awhile? Or sent me a new player with a fixed earphone problem?
    Thanks- Just a curious owner.
-edit: So, its smart to buy the "ZEN Micro Protection Plan" for $40 =( ?Message Edited by s4rge on 2-07-2005 02:48 PM

i searched the interweb when i first got the problem. lol =) Abunch of people said the earphone problem is common on the micros. We have 4 zen micro in the family and have 4 had the earphone jack problem. Don't get me wrong i like my ZM alot, but i just dont wanna run into this problem again =( I searched on this forum and read people complaing about getting the replacement and having to RMA the 2nd ZM for the same problem later on. Makes me a sad panda lol and the 4 micros we have in the family all are treated with care and still devlopled the jack problem.

  • Zen Micro RMA quest

    Hi all,
firstly cheers to all the posters on these boards - lots of useful info indeed
I've just called customer services as the headphone jack on my micro has failed (a common problem it seems)... apart from the fact I had to phone Ireland (from the UK) the service seemed great, lets hope it continues!! I've received the confirmation e-mail with the instructions, but wanted to check whether you send the back cover, having removed the battery? A small point I know but I'd prefer not to slow down the process because they don't have all the bits, or end up with a replacement with no back!!
    Cheers,
    Joel

Normally you're asked to just send the player back (but the entire thing). You should double check with Creative Support though.

  • Zen Micro w/ Headphone Jack Problem: RMA or n

    Hi everyone,
I have a silver Zen Micro, and am currently experiencing this very annoying headphone jack problem where sound gets distorted depending on how I move the headphone jack. Additionally, my player turns on by itself occasionally when it's in my pocket-- I'm not really sure what kind of problem that is, but it's very fraustrating nonetheless.
I bought my player in late November, and it's already past the three month full warranty period, so I've been told that if I send it back for RMA, I will need to pay a $40 admininistrati've fee. Thing is, I'm a student in college, and don't have the money to pay for both shipping and repairs. And I don't really want to open my player up and risk damaging it either.
What do you think is the best course of action? Should I just send it back and pay $40? How reliable is the RMA process-- and what would happen if the same problem occurs again? Pay for shipping & repairs another time?!
    Thanks,
    Mark

Yes I totally agree with you man the problem is VERY annoying. This is my second Micro I got from Creative and it is having the same problem as the original one I bought and had to send in for 'repairs'... I'm not sure if I am still under the warranty but i dont want to go through the whole annoying process of doing the RMA stuff and possibly paying for the repairs. I just might do it myself... But the Mini is looking very nice right now.... :smileyvery-happy: Just joking.

  • Zen micro freezes: share your experie

Please share your experience with Zen Micro's hard disk problems with me.
Unfortunately the beatiful zen micro i bought almost two years ago, is in a state of coma. It froze up and no option on the recovery mode could change that state.
I know that a lot of you guys had/have the same problem, given the amount of help-threads.
I sent the player to the shop since we have a two-years-warranty in Germany. The shop kept the player and refuses to exchange/repair my player.
So I am about to contact a lawyer to sue the shop.
Any evidence to support my case ? your experience with the freezing micro ? will back up my case.
    Thanks in advance!

Issue appears to be resolved. The following is the instruction set sent by Creative Labs that I followed:
. Ensure that the player is turned off.
    2. Remove the battery.
    3. Move and hold the Power button to the Power On position and re-insert
the battery to the Zen Micro. Hold the Power button until the rescue
    mode appears.
    4. After 2-3 seconds the rescue menu will be displayed.
At this point the battery can safely be replaced and maintenance options
    performed.
    5. Four options will be displayed on the LCD screen:
? Clean Up - (To rearrange your stored data)
? Format All - (To format and remove all data)
? Reload Firmware - (Reloads your player's operating system - Do not
choose this option unless you have downloaded a firmware update from the
    Creative website)
? Reboot - (Restarts your Player)
    6. Select the Clean Up and then the Reboot option.
Now, please try turning off the player.

  • Creative Zen Micro - Is it Worth

I am looking to get my first MP3 player. I basically have 3 choices - an iRi'ver, an Ipod Nano -_-, or a Creative Zen Micro (5gb). I am hearing all kinds of problems with freezing and the headphone jack problem. My friend has had his a year and says his is fine. Should I be worried? Is it worth the risk? I am the most unluckiest person out there, solI know somethign will happen the first week.

    NO NO NO NO!!!!
I posted this in another thread :
If time is on your side TAKE IT BACK ASAP. Like you, I did plenty of research before putting out the money on an Mp3 player. I was impressed with what I read about the Zen micro so I went ahead and purchased 3. WHAT A MISTAKE!!!! I purchased them in May 2005. I've already sent player back twice for repair - and am awaiting the RMA label to send THE SAME player back again for replacement. Now the other 2 players are starting to act up. One won't hold a charge at all and when it does start it goes to the clean up screen and the other has started freezing up quite a lot. As far as I am concerned this product is a joke. I was patient with customer service, even after I was LIED to. I let them replace the product not once but twice and am actually going to see if I can't cancel the advanced RMA on the third replacement and try and get my money back on all three of the players through the replacement plans I bought on them. If I have to wait until May 2006 for the year manufacturers warranty to be up I'll stick them in a drawer and wait.
The funny (not ha ha funny, but strange funny) thing is that I bought the Zen Micro's because I didn't want to be like everyone else and buy iPods. Now I wish I had. I have a feeling I threw over $600.00 away. Not quite 7 months and almost $700.00 spent- $00.00 a month for nothing but problems - wow what a really bad investment!
If I thought Creative would buck up and do the honorable thing and give me my money back, I probably wouldn't have bothered to register and post here. But I really don't think they give a crap about me or any other poor sucker that fell for their line and bought this junk. Buyer Beware....

  • Newbie here...some Zen Micro questions/suggestio

Hi im new Okay i have some questions for y'all:
Will having only usb .0 work for a zen micro? I have a n200 and it works fine, just wondering if the micro will work on my computer too.
Yes, I recently ordered a Zen Micro. Unfortunately that was before i came to this forum, and after witnessing that massi've 08 page headphone jack thread, I'm getting very worried. Are there any people out there who are satisfied with the micro? If you have problems, don't reply with a MICRO SUX0RZ **bleep** THE MICRO. I need some feel-good stories!
And one quick final clarification about the headphone jack problems: Is the problem actually fixed in the later shipments of the zen micro? I'm pretty sure mine will be a later model since it's not going to come with a wall charger, but I haven't been able to find a definiti've answer for it. Is there anyone out there who've never had this problem? again, that stupid 08page thread
    Thanks!

got my zen micro5gb as a gift, loaded this thing with everything indie... started to notice if i moved a little bit the music would cut out and it would be music distorted, without the vocal, another movement and its all back. so i figured it was bad headphones, the zen ones hurt youre ears. so i bought jvc buds $22 nyc bargain, they work great, then suddenly same thing..in and out so i got a rma and sent it , next thing i know now i have a 6 gig nice right, i charge it up and here i am sitting here the darn thing isnt being connected by my computer, i cant load music on or anything, so im figuring buy another usb. - 2.0 cord. i've already written a letter in, i dont see why there isnt 24hr help, alot of products to offer and not enough help. 2 days for an email reply, ha.. i can buy a new one in that time. -mc

  • My Zen Micro has the "hiccups"!

I so WANT to love my Micro, but it's been hard to do so. I've had to send it in for an RMA twice already....and I've only had it for 3.5 months. It's been quite frustrating.
Here's the latest episode: for some reason my unit has had these "hiccups". Picture this, a song is playing and every so often little smidgens (maybe a second or so) of other songs (usually the one that played just before the present one), and sometimes even of the same song, skip into it. I already performed disk cleanup once, as well as re-formatted the hard disk (which I don't care to do again after 3 times........the time I've invested in re-importing my music is what ticks me off the most).
Can anyone tell me what's going on with my machine? Is this an isolated case or has someone experienced this as well? It's irrelevant if the song was downloaded or was burned from a CD. It keeps happening. I honestly have no choice as far a s returning the unit, I wouldn't get all my money back. So can someone please suggest a cure?
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

yes i have had the same problem with my previous zen micro, my songs were slow to load and the song would stop mid way through a song. this then lead on to the player not even booting up. i tryred all the options on the recovery mode but these didnt help and eventually i had to send it back. i haven't had a similia problem with my new one but a problem has occoured and i am now in the process of sending back another one !!

  • HELP!! MY Zen Micros broken AG

ok I got impatient waiting for replies on the other post...
My zen micro screen has gone blank, but the music still plays, this is the second time it has broken in the 2 weeks i've had it!! please can some one tell me how to fix this as i dont want to have to change it again and lose all the songs i've put on it......again!

firstly the mods dont like ppl starting multiple threads. as was advised to patrickz42 he should return the player to creative to get it fixed, by RMA (not sure what it stands for). then see if they can fix it. have you tried starting the player in rescue mode to try see if the screen ever works? not get to impatient as there dont seam to be many mods on now, atleast you'd normally have a message by SSR so just hang in there, and dont be suprised if this thread is deleated.

  • Zen Micro iss

My problem is that my computer won't recognize my micro when I try to connect it with the zen micro media explorer or the creative removable disk manager.
But it does sync with WMP0 and the free trial of Napster to go that I have. I have many songs that I ripped from CD's and downloaded from Napster on it right now as proof.
    My firmware version is 2.20.05
Will upgrading fix this problem? (I never had to upgrade like it said to for Napster, so I don't know.)
Also, I did an experiment with battery life...Letting the battery run out from being fully charged and doing nothing at all with it, it lasted 8 hours. When I use it though, I doubt I even get 5 hours. Would the firmware help this?

The exact same thing has happened to me twice.
With my first Creative Zen Micro it worked beautifully till I installed the firmware Napster told me to. After that my computer did not recognise the device and only recognised it on Napster or as an MTP Device
Then the Zen froze on the first "Creative" screen when you start it up so I got a replacement.
Now I have a new Zen Micro and the same thing has happened, it is not recognised by the computer, because of the Napster firmware.
    This is really annoying.
My mum and sister both have Zen Micros and their computer failed to recognise theirs, they too used Napster.
So I have come to a conclusion that the fault is with the Napster Firmware.
I will now re-install my software and see if that works.
I don't like installing firmware as it takes ages to put all the music back on.
I have downloaded all the possible firmware.

  • Official Zen Micro Case. Any Go

Hi, I have just received zen micro number 4 from the Creative RMA department after a string of problems?with dead players and headphone jack?issues.
?I wondered whether I should get the official zen micro case. Has anyone got good experience with this case? I want to keep my headphones plugged in but store it in the case at the same time. Will this be possible? I have a cheap silcone skin case at the moment but maybe wanted something a little more sturdy for my rucksack.
    thanks

Thank you Alicia. Geez, I can't really understand why people are making protecti've cases that don't protect the most scratch prone surface of the Micro....
I think I'll end up buying a silicone case and one of those screen protecti've films designed for PDAs and cell phones. Too bad there's nothing better around.

  • ***Zen Micro Owners sign in! v. ineedadvice***

    hey guys...
i've been on various forums searching for the right mp3 player for me.
i am currently stuck between the m:robe, and the zen micro. however, in this thread i wish to have some things clarified about the zen micro (and if you know anything about the m:robe, please do share )
just to make it easier to answer here are my questions:
. headphone jack issues, is this a prominent problem on the zen players? i would like to have a solid player, and the m:robe seems to be build very well.
    2. firmware updating. i have windows 2000, and i read somewhere on the forums that the firmware needs to be updated on a computer with windows xp? can anybody clarify this?
    3. restore os / firmware problems, it seems like a lot of people on here have problems with their computer not recognizing their ZM which in turn, leads to an RMA or return to the factory. i do not want to deal w/ any hassles
    4. button problems, i also read a thread about the buttons only working well with the headphone plugged in / buttons only sometimes responding? is this a big issue with the players?
    5. batteries, do all the new units come with 2 batteries? i also read that some ZM's still eat batts even when the unit isnt in operation?
    and lastly
    6. anything else you think i should know before buying this unit's (buying mrobe instead?, or any common problems that i might wanna know)
    thanks very much for reading

Silver Zen Micro Limited Edition, bought in the US almost 2 months ago.
. No headphone jack issue over here.2. I wouldn't know. I run WinXP.3. XP recognized it pretty well after installing the drivers. Then swiched to MTP (PlaysForSure) Firmware, now it's recognized on computers that don't have the drivers installed too.4. Buttons work great. Scrolling can be a bit difficult at first, you'll get used to it.5. If you're planning on getting a free 2nd batt, hurry. I bought mine almost 2 months ago and got a Limited Edition. If possible, check whether you'll be getting a LE or not before buying (Extra batt ~40$) The Zen Micro does eat batt power while turned off (about hour playtime for the first 24 hours it's off... if you leave it off longer, it'll eat less batt power), but if you can recharge it everyday, this won't affect you much. (If you take the batt out, you'll have no problems with this issue)6. Some people have had troubles with Napster2Go service. If you're planning on using that, check with other users of the service!

  • Where do i send my zen micro to get fi

    hi,
a few days ago my zen micro got wet(realy wet) and now stops at the first creative screen and only goes that far when pluged into the computer well anyway does any one know where i can send it to get fixed?
if you do it would be a big help.

You need to RMA your product. Contact costumer support and they will tell you how to start the process. You can also do a search on the forums I have seen other posts asking how to RMA a product (in other words, it means sending it back to the Labs and having it fixed, then shipped back to you). Good luck!
