Zen micro second hand bu

Hello i have never owned a creative mp3 before so the system is new to me i bought a zen micro from a friend but it doesn't have the cover to the battery,software/firmware, or charger its just the mp3 but i wanted to ask what software/firmware do i need to make it work ?And where can i get it's Iam running windows xp home edition on my computer. The player turns on but it goes to a screen that has:
CREATIVE ZEN MICRO V0.0.58
.CLEAN UP
2.FORMAT ALL
3.RELOAD FIRMWARE
4.REBOOT
and that's all it does, i cant get it to get out of that screen my computer doesn't recognize the player and i have it connected with a regular 2.0 USB cable can the battery charge like that? As soon as i unplug the cable the player lasts for a couple seconds and it turns off i have left it connected for a while and it does the same when its connected it has a little battery sign with a lightning bolt through it on the top right hand side what does this mean?
well thanks everyone that reads and i hope some one can help me out please.. TTYL... Thanks again :smileyvery-happy: Agustin Guzman.Message Edited by new2thegame on 05-8-2006 05:03 PM

the player does work with WMP0.
You can choose to install the bundled drivers, and use either the bundled media software (mediasource) or WMP 0. That's the way of working with firmware line .x.
Another option, requiring firmware line 2.x, is to strictly use Win XP + WMP0. Under firmware 2.x, the device becomes a "PlaysForSure" "MTP" device. That means that you don't have to install extra drivers, and that WinXP + WMP0 is your mode of operation.
Also for storing DATA, there are 2 options: either put data in a data folder on the player (which requires the driver or firmware 2). Or you create a "removable disc" area. That is a standard protocol, which makes the "removable disc" appear as a dri've letter on most operating systems. This is more standard (no drivers at all needed), but this "removable disc" is NOT for songs. You can't play songs that are stored in this area, on the disc.
hope that's clear :-) on 2nd thought, it's a bit complicated with the various options...

  • Zen micro photo... biggggg probl

need help desperately! my micro photo won't turn on aprt from when i use the mains adapter. the battery is defiantely in and is fully charged because i charged the whole of last night, but when the mains adapter is in instead of having your green battery symbol in the top right hand corner theres just the plug symbol. basically it looks like it would if you plugged in your zen and took the battery out, suggesting its the battery but when i unplug it it stays on for about 6-7 seconds still without the battery symbol and then turns itself off?!!! it wont even work if i plug it into my pc! which really annoys me cus i want to put my new seasick steve album onto it but i cant!!! help!!!

Dude. My son just complained to me about the same thing. His zen photo micro would play normally and then shut off without warning after a few minutes. We ruled out it was his battery because luckily his original zen micro was handed down to his sister. We did the battery switch and sure enough, sister's kept going while his exhibited the same symptoms. We then had to believe it was either software or hardware. The least costliest thing to do was to go and reflash the firmware.
I went to Creative site and downloaded the latest version firmware and 5 minutes later, he is back up and running. Good luck.

I have a Creative Zen Micro 2nd hand withno CDwith it. Now I have problem uploading and downloadingthe song onto the player. What software should i be using and where to download

What version of Windows do you have?
I use firmware version ..0 on my 5 Gb Zen Micro on one of my older computers running WinME.
I use Zen Micro Media Explorer as I find it simple to use, but Creative MediaSource Player/Organizer 3.30.2 works too.
If you're running XP, Creative Zen Micro Media Explorer Web Update (48.24 MB or Creative MediaSource Player/Organizer 3.30.2 (52.2 MB) should work for you.

  • Zen Micro: Cannot Get Past Second Creative L

I just got a 5gb Zen Micro yesterday. And it worked fine...for a few hours.
It locked up so I took out the battery and put it back in. It got past the first Creative logo, the one with the Copyright 2004, but it just stopped on the second. When I press a button, the LEDs don't come on. I am able to get it to Recovery Mode, but when I choose a mode; a window to double-check pops up and if I click Yes, it switches to the next window. But it doesn't seem to do anything. I can't hear the hard disk working, but if I press buttons it does 'click'.
Is there anything I can do? Or will I have to make use of my replacement warranty earlier then I thought?
    Thanks.

  • Broken Black Zen Micro on second day...

Well I got my zen micro for christmas and everything was working perfect. Then tonight after filling up the harddri've with more music, I stop the zen micro in windows, unplug the player... and it freezes. Now this is not the first time it has done this to me so I take out the battery and replace it. I see the startup screen, then it says creative, and thats as far as it goes. Nothing I do will get it beyond that point. I tried all four options in the rescue/recovery mode, but to no avial. Everytime I try one of the four it says its beginning it but never changes and the only way to unlock is to replace battery again.
The whole reason I wanted it was so I could take it when I go skiing tommorow morning, so needless to say Im pretty upset. We bought it from walmart.com becuase it was the only for sure way to get a black one before christmas at the time, so now I have to ship the darn thing back and I probably wont get it back for a number of weeks because, again, they are sold out.
Just wanted to rant a little, hopefully none of this happens to any of yours. NightMessage Edited by Seanpr23 on 2-27-2004 05:05 AM

I got a zen micro on the 23rd and it was broken as soon as I opened the box. The demo music skipped and would freeze up if I touched the player while it was playing. It felt like I was carrying a CD player from 995 with no skip protection. I decided I'd give it a full charge and transfer some music just to make sure. Once I had about 400 tracks on there I tried it and again it was really buggy, freezing, not playing any music. I'd reboot and it'd freeze on the "Creative" Logo on start-up. I tried scan disk, formatting, and I reloaded the firmware about 5 times to no avail. I don't want to cause a problem here but I bought this product because I thought it would be better than an ipod but if the one I got is representiti've of the product Creative makes then it looks like I was sorely mistaken.

  • External charger for Zen Micro batt

I just got my new Zen Micro and so far it is the best looking mp3 player I have seen but I just hope (knock on wood) tha is doesn't run into any of the issues posted. The one thing that I thought was the best feature about the Zen Micro is that I can remove the battery from the unit but to really make it usefull I should be able to have one battery in the Zen MIcro while the other is charging. This way I can have non stop tunes. Is there an external battery charger for the Zen battery?
Also, how do I know if I have an older unit that had all the problems with the headphone jacks?
One more question, when I try to pause I sometimes have to pres the pause/play button two or three times. I have the touch pad setting to medium. Should I start to worry or is this normal.
    Thanks

There's no external charger. The low volume of sales will likely make it a high cost item, so Creative have presumably decided it's not worth it. If you really want you can always buy another player I'm guessing this won't be far off the likely cost of an external charger. There are some third party Lithium Ion chargers out there, but you need to have a special plate designed for the battery terminals. You'll have to Google to find them as I don't have the link to hand.
I find with pause that sometimes there's a delayed response, as if the player is busy. Wait a few seconds and try again, rather than say mashing the controls

  • Zen Micro: Headphone jack (HE

My first and most major problem is with my headphone jack. I first noticed this problem when I was listening to my Zen on my headphones. It seems that if the jack is in one direction, it will only play certain tracks of whatever song I am listening to. It is annoying when I'm listening to a song, and I put my Zen on the counter to do whatever I'm doing that requires my two hands and 80% of my attention, and it does the one track thing.
My second problem is with freezing of my Zen micro. I have lately been experiencing some annoying freezes. This is mainly when I dock my Zen to my Dell to sync tracks. It just freezes. I then have to remove the battery, plug it into a charger, and do a bunch of other fun stuff. When I finally get it back to working order, I can't press the touchpad too fast, or it will freeze again, and I will have to go through the whole process again.
I'm going on vacation next week, and I want to take my Zen with me. These problems are so annoying, but I don't want to send my Zen to creative to have them service it. Anything I can do?

Perhaps this threat will help, there are over 000 replies, and some mods have responded to it too. Hope it helps you out a little:

(I know there's a lot to read, but try your best and post back with further questions)
EDIT: And regarding the freezing, do you have the latest firwmare? You can also try to go into recovery mode and try a disk cleanup.

  • 2 month new Zen Micro, won't fully charge via

I have the zen micro 5gb and here's what been happening
Up until the last month the micro would charge up just fine. Now, it won't charge past one bar and it does show the charging icon in the upper right hand corner.
My USB connections are USB 2.0 at work and home and it won't fully charge. I ran the battery completely out of juice to try a fresh charge approach. I know the micro is getting power because it will run while plugged into my usb cable.
Oh yeah, recently, after the water drop on the screen, it usually loads the zen micro logo, then rolls right to the now playing screen. Recently, it sticks for about 0 seconds, and the touch pad is inacti've.
Before I deal with taking it back to BestBuy, I figured I'd see if there's anything I can try before.

    Thanks

You don't have to, but if your USB power is marginal it ensures that ALL the power is dedicated to charge the player.
I just switched it to lock and it is pulsing. When I'm at work I have to use my usb connection to charge and I can't load the driver onto my work machine. If it is not pulsing, is it only just using the usb for power?
It's only using the USB power for the data connection.
What's the deal with the pusling?
It shows the player is charging.
Also, what's the benefit of upgrading the firmware to v2?
See the link "the difference between the Zen Micro v and v2 firmware" in the FAQ post.

Are these legit or is it just the box for the photo and a pic of the micro

    Ts,
I am sure we will be seeing a lot more once it is set for worldwide launch. I managed to get my hands on a prerelease version for a bit and I really liked it. There are quite a few differences that I think people will appreciate. For one it is a little bit thinner (about 2mm by the specs), also it has a decidedly more metal feel to the player (it feels very solid and a bit heavier). The battery cover on the player I saw had the Zen Logo actually embossed on the cover (you can feel the ripples, not just see them). The controls had a very different feel to them, kind of like a suede feel (at least as much as plastic can feel like suede) and the screen is very nice. OLED definitely makes for a very good display, bright and colorful. Oh and the on/off switch was done in chrome with a blue led underneath.
I was pretty happy with what I saw, and I think it is good improvement over the original Zen Micro.

  • Zen micro-stuck at creative s

this is my second zen micro i have just got this new one today as i sent my old one off with the same problem which they could not fix so they gave me a new one as i was within warrenty i turn on my new zen micro and it just freezes at the creative sign wtf can i do i've tried formatting i've tried clean up i've tried rebot and nothing works please help

    Yeah, get a new one.
Just FYI, if it was making kind of a boing, boing or whir/click noise when you turned it on, this is a sign the dri've read/write head has gotten hung over the edge of the dri've platter. It seems to happen occasionally with the rather delicate little dri'ves in these players. Under warranty, Creative will replace the unit. Out of warranty, there is a trick that will often fix this that involves turning the player off (remove the battery) and wacking the player face down in the palm of youe hand lightly but sharply> this will often unstick the head. It has worked for me and probably many others. Not an offical way to fix this, but OK if you have no replacement option and have nothing to lose.

  • Zen Micro: Poor Battery Performance Even with Firmware Upgr

The Zen Micro's battery life is advertised to last up to 2 hours, but I am only getting approximately 7.5 hours. I have installed the latest firmware v.0.03 upgrade, and fully charged and discharged both batteries at least fi've times each (using the USB and AC adaptors before plutting into outlet). Before the firmware upgrade I was getting just under six hours of battery life. For testing purposes I am using 28kbps MP3 files, volume level 8, no EQ setting, no backlighting, and the headphones that came with the product. Since I have the player sitting on my desk, without being listened to, there's no skipping or forwarding of music tracks. Gi'ven the non-demanding settings, the battery performance is disappointing.
I have contacted tech support and they want me to send in my player for repair or replacement. It seems this issue is prevalent for all Zen Micros and I don't want to send mine in to have it returned all scuffed and scratched and not fixed (or get some grimy second-hand, refurbished model instead).
So I want to confirm that others are experiencing this same problem before I decide what to do. It seems it would be best to get another one from Amazon instead of going through the hassle of repair.

I notified Amazon of the problem on Friday and got a brand new replacement on Monday. Talk about great service.
Unfortunately the replacement is a crapper also. My second Zen Micro immediately and completely locks up when plugging in the USB cable. Since I didn't return my original unit yet, I was able to try another cable but got the same results. I fully charged the batteries, tried all of the various recovery mode options, and still had the Creative drivers/software previously installed on my computer from before. I'm running WinXP SP2 with up-to-date patches, and no other software installed since. My PC's motherboard has built-in USB 2.0 support (with power mgmt turned off) and updated drivers and BIOS, but these things shouldn't be an issue anyway since it worked fine with the first Zen Micro. I'm not able to upgrade the firmware, let alone transfer music, because of the lockup problem. I build and fix PCs for friends and coworkers all the time so I'm confident in my trouble-shooting abilities.
The second Micro makes the first one seem perfect. I really wanted to like this MP3 player, but two defecti've products in a row is totally unacceptable to me. What a waste of my time. I should have been more suspicious about Creative products since my Muvo TX FM player was buggy as well (i.e. player would immediately shut down when powering on). I will check out the Rio Carbon or iRi'ver products instead.

  • Zen Micro troub

I've just about had it with Creative and their shoddy Zen Micro.
My first Zen Micro worked for about two months before the headphone jack gave out. I returned it, and recieved another player that didn't work at all. The touchpad was really sluggish and unresponsi've, despite my turning the sensitivity all the way up, reinstalling firmware, cleaning up my library, rebooting, etc. I sent that one back, and I got the Zen Micro I currently have, which has several problems with it.
The first problem I experienced was that the player would shut down completely if it weren't playing music in about 30 seconds. I checked the automatic shut-down, and it was set at fi've minutes. This kept happening, but stopped once I played music.
The second problem I experienced was that the touchpad was really unresponsi've, despite the sensitivity being all the way up. I had to touch the seek button several times to get to the next song -- the player didn't acknowledge my action until the second or third try.
The third problem is that it occasionally freezes, and I have to remove the battery to unfreeze it. After that happens, I go to safe mode, reboot it, and it works fine for a while longer. It only freezes when I try to go to the next song -- the icon in the upper right corner says it's trying to go to the next song, but nothing ever happens.
Is there any way to get my money back or just fix the problem (I'm still under warranty)? I'm really, really sick of Creative sending me back more and more shoddy Zen Micros.

I'm on my third Zen Micro in two months. Never thought I'd be one of the people getting the bad luck with merchandise, but yeah.
    First one:
I shut off computer with my Zen Micro still plugged in via USB cable. The screen froze, and then disappeared permanently.
    Second one:
We took the first back and got one that someone returned. It was previously opened but still had original packaging, so BestBuy claimed it was "new." Well, it had a loose head phone jack and 4.6GB of storage, as opposed to 6GB as stated on the box. So... I put it back in the original packaging, and took it back. It looked brand-spanking new. I think BestBuy was lying to me because I packaged it back up and couldn't tell it from any other unopened product.
    Third one:
So far, so good. Working touch pad, screen is still in tact, fixed headphone jack, as well as 5800MB of storage, much, much closer to 6GB than the shotty 4.6GB one they handed off to me. But if this one screws up, I am going to get an 8GB Zen Micro Photo...

  • Headphone Socket Problem - on Zen Micro Photo (not Zen Mic

Hi folks,I'm having a wee problem with the headphone socket on my Zen MicroPhoto, similar to that described in this threadhttp://forums.creative.com/showthrea...=654536#M40796 However, this was for the Zen Micro not the Photo. I've tried the DIY method of sorting out the headphone socket (by partial disassembly) but I think that there's no plastic strip where the socket, on/off switch and USB port are housed and that it's part of the main casing instead (which is probably part of the reason the MicroPhoto hasn't has as many problems with the headphone socket in the first place, as in it's a more sturdy structure...but it's obviously come loose for me). So...any hints as to what I might be able to do Anyone had the same problem Bearing in mind I bought it over a year ago now and it was second hand anyway (and thus the warranty is no longer valid). Thanks! RL

  • Zen Micro - transfer lock ups with latest firmwa

I've been trying to transfer mp3 files to my firmware upgraded Zen Micro and find that the transfer slows down and then locks the player after 30-40 files have successfully copied. This happens with ..0 and 2.2.02 firmwares.
The player will then remain in a 'acti've' docked state (black arrows) until the battery is removed. After this lock up tags on the mp3 files are messed up and display Chinese looking characters in the Details View.
This happens on two different computers with USB2.0, one Intel based and the other AMD.
Two questions - anyone know if this is a known issue being worked on for an imminent firmware update? And secondly - is the problem aggravated (or even created) because I am trying to copy files over from a directory tree (mp3's sorted into artist/album/ folders) rather than one flat folder with all mp3s in it (ie. in one single folder).

I'd try transferring fewer files at a time and see if that works.
You might be on to something with copying from a directory tree too. See if transferring the files in smaller groups from one folder helps out.
You can always organize the artists/albums later in Zen Micro Media Explorer or Creative MediaSource.

Have tried to download drivers and software for Zen Micro. When I try to run it though, it does not install because it says that I do not have device connected. Have erased everything off of Zen Micro, but have not reformatted. When I attach Zen Micro to PC, Zen Micro displays "booted" & PC displays "Zen Micro" for a second or two, then switches to "MTP Device"?. Do I need to erase everything from the Zen Nano Plus first?2. What do you think my next step should be?Thx???
