  • Zen Micro: STARTUP FRE

Well....once again my Zen Micro has frozen upon startup, sometimes freezing at the animation screen, creative screen, or whatever. I have looked throughout the topics and notice this is a very common issue. I have had the problem for a while, and I'm starting to get quite ticked off, to be honest.
Has Creative even acknowledged this problem? If not, I THINK ITS ABOUT TIME.
Is there a real fix BESIDES formatting!?
This seemingly blatant disregard is horrible. I'm starting to think I should have just stuck with an Ipod and followed the masses. Ironically, I received an Ipod as a gift, however I told my father (who gave this gift to me) I'd rather have a Zen Micro. I did not want to have something everyone else had, and I wanted to give the "underdog" mp3 player company a chance. Seems like that decision did me over.
I would really like to see a SOLID response regarding this problem, possibly even by a CREATIVE employee...or am I asking for too much?

DM wrote:The problem lies in the hard dri've. IMO, Seagate made many faulty ST hard dri'ves and shipped them to players which use them such as the Zen Micro. Its unfortunate that this had to happen but it doesn't affect all the Zen Micros and its unsure of when those dri'ves were manufactured and sold.
Without evidence to back this up though it's hard to be sure. Creative have sold millions of players, and I certainly don't see thousands or even hundreds of repeated posts here with this problem.

  • Zen Micro Startup Screen Customizatio

Maybe someone can help me with a small problem I'm having:
I recently bought a Zen Micro mini and am quite impressed. Operation and quality has been great aside from one thing I'm having trouble with - I can't change the startup image via Creative Mediasource (or any other way for that matter).
The only help topics I've found on the subject give the size of the bitmap, but that's about it... I've been creating B&W 8 bit bmps at proper size that don't work.
Anyone willing to offer a 2 second tutorial or formatting suggestions?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm not sure on the dimensions, but I'm fairly sure it needs to be 2 bit i.e. monochrome.

  • Zen Micro Startup

Hello Im new to the group
I have a 5GB zen micro. When I start it up it starts from the song I was last playing. Is there anyway to make it startup or load to the main menu instead of the last played song?
    Thanks
    Firmware ..0

The longer start time is a result of the Micro waking up from "deep sleep." It does this after 4 or 24 hours of inactivity, depending no which firmware you have.

    Hello,
I would like to change the lay-out of the openingscreen of my zen micro 5 GB and the EAX, it looks blocked. Can anyone help me, please?
    Thanks a lot.

They are greyed out because Micro does not support Eax and neither the change of the startup screen. Look through the forum, I made a similar topic maybe 4 months ago :P

  • Zen micro startup picture and EAX setti

Zen micro has a possibility to change the startup picture, doesn't it's In the creative mediasource there is an option Change the startup picture (below EAX settings) but it's not acti've, I mean you can't do anything with it. I would love to change the Creative animation for something else but I don't know how, it's just the same with the EAX settings.

No, you can't change the startup screen on the Micro. It is greyed out in MediaSource, because this software is also used for players that CAN change the startup screen.
And indeed, as bloodangel05 says, the Micro has no EAX

  • Zen Micro - Blank Scr

Ok, so I bought my Zen Micro 6mb a few years ago and it worked great. Then my computer died, so I had no real use for it, so I gave it to a friend to use. He started using it as a portable storage device, but when he returned it it didn't work -at all- anymore.
When I plug it into my USB, it does detect the device, but that is all. He told me he thinks he deleted the operating system on it, or whatever. Basically -everything- has been deleted. When I turn it on the screen is blank, except for the battery gauge.
Also, I looked through all my CD's and DVD's but I can't find my installation disc. I swear I gave it to him, but it was like 2 years ago and I can't remember, but he says I never gave it to him. Is this a problem?
I searched the forums, but since I really don't know what happened to it, I don't really know what to search for.
Any help you could offer is greatly appreciated.

If so many people are expirenceing this problem, its no just one or two player's that are at fault, maybe in the design of the player there was somthing overlooked.
In my opinion this problem is somthing that Creative should definatly research into, as it could affect many more players. Its not good especally on players that are not even a month old!
LCD (Liquid Cristal Displays) themselves don't just blow or go wrong, and its higly unlikely that this is what has gorne wrong, the problem may lay with the connection from the LCD to the PCB (Printed Circuit Board) usually connected together with a flexible carbon track, sometimes these tracks can slip and make the display malfunction. This happend to my old minidisk player, if fixed the display problem by moving the carbon track - but i would not advise that anyone tampers with their player unless the warrenty has expired, and you cannot be botherd to get Creative to look at it.
But i would reccomend that in warrenty or not, you should get Creative to repair the problem for you, as searching for your music "blind" is very annoying and frustrating!

  • Zen Micro Frozen Scr

I power-on my Zen Micro as I usually do. The player turns on but i can not navigate through the player because the touchpad does not seem to be registering. Then, powering-off does not work either. I must remove my battery in order to turn player off.
When I boot into Recovery Mode, it is the same issue. I believe my device is defecti've but Creative just recently replaced it approx. 2 months ago.
Is there anything that I can do?

I have the very same problem! About 2 months ago my Zen Micro?broke (after having it for 3 to 4?months). I took it back to the store, they send it to the factory and i got a brand new one free of charge. This was about a month ago...today i wanted to turn it on and it just froze and i have to take the battery out if i want to turn of the player. This is ridiculous, i haven't done anything weird with it, i have a protection skin around it and it's only month old! I have been very carefull with it. Im thinking of going back to the story and ask? for my money back....im done with MP3 players,? i miss the CD players!?

  • ZEN micro startup l

i have a quyestion, but first of all, sorry for my english...
when i turn on my zen micro, it appears the zen micro logo (after the creative and the animated), but, for a moment, a group of pixels dissapears. i have the latest firmware version (.). is that normal? what can i do?
please, if you dont understand the problem, let me know and i?ll try to explain it better.
    thanks for your help!!!

Do you mean that the logo is corrupted and distorted or that some of it goes away? Ever since I installed the firmware you mentioned half of the logo will disappear and my player will either start to work or a song will begin to play followed by the zen micro stalling.

  • Dust in zen Micro's scr

My zen micro has dust inside it's screen. Lots of it. I don?t know how it got there. Does anybody know how the zen micro opens up? I don?t care if its voids the warranty. Costumer service isn?t going to remove dust. Although... I could break the headphone jack. J/K

You should keep in mind that if you open it and void the warrenty, then ANY future problem you have (i.e. headphone jack, harddri've problems, etc) will not be elegible for warrenty repair either. Is dust under the screen really worth that?

  • Creative Zen Micro - No Scr

** NOTE ** This is the message I sent to Creative support. But I would like help from everyone here, too. **
Last night I had been charging my computer, and
shut off my computer with my Creative Zen Micro
still plugged in. At that point, everything that
was on the screen became frozen onto the screen.
I turned in on, then turned it off, and
everything disappeared. I thought it was fine.
But earlier today at school, while listening to
my MP3 player, I went to change the song and
noticed that a bunch of jibberish was being
displayed. At that point, I had proceeded to
turn off/on my MP3 player again.
When the random assortment of letters, numbers,
and lines hadn't ceased to disappear, I
immediately turned off my MP3, took the battery
out, and placed it back in. At which point, I
turned on my MP3 player to discover... nothing
is being displayed on the screen anymore. I took
the battery out again, put it back in, turned it
    on, and still nothing.
I am now at home and have backed up everything
that was on my MP3 player. I attempted a
reformat via the troubleshooter, (take battery
out, hold power button on, put battery in,
continue to hold power button, etc...) but
nothing is being displayed. Thus, I cannot
perform a complete reformat, cannot restart, or
do anything with it at all.
The screen remains entirely blank, even if music
is playing. You can press pause and it pauses,
or press the [next song] button and change songs,
but nothing is displayed on the screen.
I had acquired my Creative Zen Micro on Boxing
Day of 2005 (December 26, 2005), and have only
had minor problems such as it freezing
occasionally. I currently have a 2 year warranty
that I purchased along with the MP3 player in
question. Any help would be appreciated.

Bump. Sorry, but I would like a response. I have checked other threads about this issue, and to me it sounds like it is a hardware malfunction and I HAVE to send my Zen Micro back to Creative.
Update: My MP3 player has been sitting, off, for about 5 hours. I turned it on and there was a single blue line running across the bottom of the screen. At this point, I began to reset it again. Good news, the screen appeared! I told it to reboot, and now everything is working A-OK. But I DEFINITELY will not turn off my computer without unhooking it first. Biggest mistake I made.Message Edited by Rape_of_Faith on 02-04-2006 0:44 AM

  • Creative Zen Micro (Startup Failure) Need URGENT he

Hi, i was on holiday in Singapore about 2 weeks ago, and i bought myself a Creative Zen Micro from one of the local sho
    ps.
It worked fine, music played brilliantly, i was happy. However, today when i turned it on, it would display the 'CREATIVE COPYRIGHT' Screen, then followed by 'CREATIVE' in large letters across the screen. It would then freeze on this screen, and the off/on button would soon become useless, which meant that i could either leave it on and kill the battery, or take it out.
When i took the battery out and in again, it would repeat with the 'CREATIVE' sign. Following the 'recovery' methods, i managed to load the screen with all the different options such as clean-up, etc etc. However, when i load any of them up, it would freeze once again and i would end up taking the battery out again.
I have tried the reset button with a pin but that doesnt do anything. I have a spare battery that does exactly the same too. My computer doesnt detect the Zen btw.
I have important documents and almost my lifetime's supply of music that took me almost weeks to rip and store into that Zen. Now that its basically dead, and i bought it in Singapore, i have basically no warranty, i feel as if i have been throwing cases of money into the toilet. I need urgent help, if theres any other ways of restoring access to my Zen.
Check the reviews on a respectable site like amazon.com: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Creative-Zen-Micro-6GB-Player/dp/B000AMR76S
After browsing around forums over the internet, I have found many other people complaining about this, which makes it a MAJOR flaw in the Creative Zens. Screw petty chargers and plugs, get the software right.

The problem you have is very simple, yet complicated to be solved. Your zen's hard dri've is dead. Most of the people who own a zen don't know it has a hard dri've inside. Some mp3 players have flash memory. Chances are that you've dropped your mp3 player. Zen's hard dri'ves are very sensiti've and must not be moved around too much. The way to go in this case is to replace the hard dri've. It is actually a micro hard dri've what you need. Seagate ST 5GB MicroDri've CF Type II. Once you have a new Hd installed you can format it using the zen's menu (remove the battery, hold the power button, place the battery in and wait untill you see the menu) This requires some experience formatting HD's and installing firmware. There is another option. You can buy a Patriot 4Gb Compact Flash Card, and follow what I've described above. The good thing about this is that your zen will take more vibration than the original. The bad one is tha those range from $70 - 99. I hope this hel

  • Zen Micro recovery scr

I've had my Micro for about 5 months and love it, but it as of today it won't exit the recovery mode screen. I've selected the cleanup option, then rebooted the player, but the recovery screen keeps coming up. Also, when I try to organize my music on my computer, my Micro library won't load. Help!!!

If the player won't boot normally it won't be able to communicate with the PC.

Anything to be done other than send it back? Seems pretty hopeless to me

I have also experienced startup problems and it seems to be a hard dri've problem. Sometimes it takes up to 5 minutes to boot and I hear the sound of the hard dri've thrashing about. Although it does take a long time, it usually does not freeze. It froze only about three times on startup. When this happens I take the battery out and try again. (FYI- when I inquired with Creative about a reset button the reponse I received instructed me the reset was to take the battery out).Message Edited by lilmightybull on 04-9-2005 2:24 AM
