Zen micro-stuck at creative sym

when i turn on my zen micro it doesnt work it just freezes at the creative sign (the after creative copy right) what can i do to fix it

Jamez3,
First off I would try going into rescue mode and attempting a clean up. If that doesn't work then try a format. The instructions for this can be found in the FAQ at the top of this forum. If that doesn't work, contact support and they will help you out (as this may be a problem that will require a repair of the player).

  • Zen micro-stuck at creative s

this is my second zen micro i have just got this new one today as i sent my old one off with the same problem which they could not fix so they gave me a new one as i was within warrenty i turn on my new zen micro and it just freezes at the creative sign wtf can i do i've tried formatting i've tried clean up i've tried rebot and nothing works please help

    Yeah, get a new one.
Just FYI, if it was making kind of a boing, boing or whir/click noise when you turned it on, this is a sign the dri've read/write head has gotten hung over the edge of the dri've platter. It seems to happen occasionally with the rather delicate little dri'ves in these players. Under warranty, Creative will replace the unit. Out of warranty, there is a trick that will often fix this that involves turning the player off (remove the battery) and wacking the player face down in the palm of youe hand lightly but sharply> this will often unstick the head. It has worked for me and probably many others. Not an offical way to fix this, but OK if you have no replacement option and have nothing to lose.

  • Zen Micro Stuck On Startup Scr

My Zen Micro 2 gig is two years old. It seems it is stuck on the startup screen that states "Creative." I thought I heard a slight pulsating/droning sound upon startup. I was going to merely try a firmware reinstall or format but I cannot even get the computer to recognize a connection with the device. When I charge the device, I do get the animated charging icon - however I am sure that would be independent of any other features.
If I remember correctly the Micro is a hard dri've based device? If so I would think that it must have been damaged somehow. Either way, any suggestions on how to attempt a fix? Or is the player gone to MP3 Heaven?
Thanks for any help. And for the record, I have been very happy with the device throughout my ownership.

If you're absolutely sure you cannot enter recovery mode then you'll need to contact support to get it replaced.

  • Zen micro stuck in recovery m

today i decided to try to upgrade firmware on my Zen Micro for the first time. It was on .00.06 (I think) and i tried upgrading to the PlaysForSure 2.2.02 update. It was doing alright during the installation process at first, but then my Micro was supposably rebooting and...never came back. It said the installation was suppose to take no longer than 5 minutes. I waited at least 0-5 minutes, still nothing, so i cancelled it. I ended up formatting the micro completely, and I'm stuck in recovery mode. USB will not recognized it being connected. I even try uninstalling the creative zen micro software on my computer and i get some error and it won't allow me to do so. I don't know what else to try, any suggestions?I leave town for a week tomorrow afternoon, so i would really really appreciate any quick help!?Thanks in advance

well let me be the first to tell u there is a way to fix this. I found out yesterday by reading some old forums and found something called the caveman method. All you have to do is hit one of the rounded corners on the bottom of the zen micro against a hard surface (such as a table).
I know it sounds simple and destructi've but it worked for me and pretty much every one on the forum don't believe me heres the link: http://forums.creative.com/creativelabs/board/message?board.id=dap&message.id=36568&view=by_date _ascending&page=
It has pages of people stating that it has worked for them. I was so happy that it worked for me since my player has been broken for about 7 months. They say that the micro disk stopped spinning, and by hitting it on a hard surface a few times gets it spinning again. Based off of my experience with the caveman technique, go a little crazy with it. Your going to need to use quite some force.
Unfortunately, after i got mine working i now hear some kind of grain moving inside whenever i shake the player (guess i over did it). Don't let this discourage you though because once again the player is unfrozen and loads pass that dreaded creative copyright and you can now use it.
I do give you one warning, once you get the player working try not to be an idiot like me and reload the firmware. That just brings up a whole other problem.
    Good luck Cavemen s lol

  • Zen Micro stuck at "Creati

So I've had the 5gb Zen Micro now for a few months and it's been wonderful... No drops, no damages of any kind, and it runs like a dream.
Today I put it in the kitchen on some portable speakers and had it playing... I hit the skip song button, and then it did nothing... I turned it off and back on and then it was stuck on the "Creative" screen.
Checked on the site, and tried to do a "Clean Up" from the recovery menu... 5 hours of "Scan Disk" and it wasn't changing at all. When I power it on, if I listen close, it makes a music-esque noise repeatedly, but I can't tell what it is... it's not a whirr or a click, but it's not a normal noise.
I suspect it's a HD failure, but am hoping I don't need to send it out :-/
    Can anyone help?

i have the EXACT same problem!! god and it pisses me off too! this is the first time i experienced this problem, the shop owner i took it to didn't even know how to turn the **bleep** thing on, let go know what the problem is :S i don't wanna take it back either, the last time it was broken (this is now my third and i don't like it anymore!) it took them 2 (!) weeks till they said they couldn't find a problem and i got a new one....
i looked at other forums, this seems to be a known problem at creative, i was advised to turn it on into "recovery mode" so i did... indeed, more then 5 hours of cleaning up, and i turned it off cause i thought it wouldn't be helping at all....
i also emailed this customer support, i hope to recieve my awnser tomorrow, but does anybody on this forum KNOW WHAT TO DO ABOUT IT?? i;d like to know if there's a solution to this problem before i take it to the store....
    thanks anyway

  • Zen Micro - Stuck in recovery; can't connect; can't upgrade firmw

I sent a request to customer service, but since I purchased my Zen 3 months ago, I'm not eligible for email support. SO, if anyone can help, I would appreciate it...since I can't do anything with my Zen right now.
I just bought into a subscription service and my 4Gb Zen Micro is stuck in recovery mode after upgrading to PlaysForSure firmware.
    Here's what happened:
. Downloaded and installed Creative Zen Micro PlaysForSure Firmware update 2.2.02. Zen restarted after installation stalled. Displayed "Firmware Problem"
    2. Zen connected to PC and only recognized by XP as an MTP Device MTP Device Properites:
    Model Name: Creative Zen Micro
    Manufacturer: Creative Technology Ltd
    Firmware version: 2.2.02_0.00.65
    3. Downloaded and installed Creative Zen Micro Media Explorer Web Update (ZENM_PCAPP_LB_MTP_PDE.exe) -- install failed because it never recognized my Zen, which was connected
    4. Downloaded and installed Creative PlaysForSure Devices Plugin 5.00.36 for Creative
MediaSource 5 Player/Organizer (CMS5_MTP_PCAPP_LB_5_00_36.exe) -- install successful, but it never recognized my Zen, which was connected I think I need to reload the firmware but I can't get any of the firmware updates to work. None of the creative software, including firmware updates, recognizes that the Zen is connected. I have not been able to figure out a way to have XP (SP2) recognize the device so that Ican reload the firmware and use the Creative Software. WMP 9, 0 and (I tried them all) do not recognize the device when it's plugged in. I also plugged in the Zen into two different computers. Same results.
    5. Tried directions on Solution ID # 4275 MP3 player not detected. Same results.
    6. I've followed the registry edits suggested on Solution ID # 0053 MTP players not recognized in Windows XP and that did not fix the problem either.

It took a while, but I finally have my Zen Micro working again. I did some searching in the forums on "Firmware Problem" and that gave me some great ideas. Here's what I did.
. Uninstalled WMP and 0. Rolled back to WMP 9.
    2. Edited my registry. I searched for anything related to the Creative software and deleted the entry. I just searched for the word "Creative". Restarted my PC.
    3. When I plugged in my Zen, Windows recognized it, without using the MTP driver. Problem was that I wasn't be able to load a driver to use the device. So, I went and installed WMP0.
    4. After installing WMP0, I plugged in my Zen and Windows recognized the device and installed a driver.
    5. I ran the firmware upgrade from Creative and I was back in business.
    Hope this hel
    ps.

  • Zen Micro - Stuck in recover mode - h

    Hi,
    Can anyone help?
On using my micro today, on inital booting up for some reason it went straight into rebuilding the data library before going on to say "firmware problem".
I then decided to try clean up, reboot firmware but nothing seemed to work, before finally formating the thing as the last option. The format has worked, as memory back to full and also my keypad sensistivity has changed back to the original settings.
However, now the micro is stuck in the recovery mode, as the when using reboot option it just returns back to the recovery mode screen - even turning off the thing/removing the battery does nothing to help, as it just returns back to this screen.
Any advice/help appreciated before I give in and ring Customer Support!!
    Cheers.

First of all I had this exact same problem. I had to contact customer support. I had to send my Zen Micro in. Your best plan of action now, is to email or call support.

  • +++Installing Zen Micro w/o Creative related software?

I was wondering whether Win XP w/ SP2 is able to detect Zen Micro w/o its related software? I would like to use only WMP0 to transfer my songs.....

    Kelly,
I have installed the MTP software as well and it does transfer te playlists from WMP to the Zen Micro. The only problems I have had with the new firmware have not been firmware or Creative related but rather WMP related. It seems to be very picky about what it will transfer if you have it set to automatically convert to WMA-64 to save space. It gets hung up on some files during conversion or takes an unspecified error and skips the file to go to the next. What I actually have ended up doing is loading up MediaSource again without drivers for the player and used it to convert the files I wanted to WMA and then pointed WMP at that folder and it transfers them and the playlists fine. Now that I have read this post I will try Real's player as well to see how it works with it. This has only been a slight frustration though because I am trying to maintain the files in their original format and just conver the ones I am loading now. My wife owns an iPod and can load plenty of files in the higher bit rate that I ripped them off our cds in.Message Edited by AspenWiedii on 0-09-2005 07:09 AM

    Hello,
My Zen Micro is stuck in the "Docked" mode. I can not turn it off. When I plug it into my USB port nothing happens, the computer does not see it.
My daughter may have unplugged the player with out first "stopping" on the computer first.
Any ideas how to get it "undocked".

As a matter of fact, right after I posted this request I decided to remove the battery to see what would happen and it worked, Doh! But I was wondering if there was a better way to resolve this problem. I guess I found out :-)
    Thanks for you help

  • Help! Zen Micro freezed on "Creative" scr

    Hi all,
my Zen Micro has gone crazy... all of a sudden it switched itself on, and it just stays on the "CREATIVE" screen and doesnt do anything.
I cant even update the firmware because it wont connect through the USB.
Also i tried Disk Cleanup and Formatting and everything. but nothing works
It just freezes at those screens.
    Some one please help

if your micro ever freezes, I would just get an RMA to return it to Creative to get a replacement. I did that, and within a week, they mailed me a brand new zen micro which works perfectly fine (ie. no freezing, no errors, no battery loss issues, etc...)...

  • Brand New Zen Micro Hangs on "Creative" Logo Scr

Like some of you out there my new Zen Micro worked with the initial charge prior to my charging it although I never got to put any music on the thing.
Then after the charge, it hangs on the "Creative" logo screen. I've tried all of the instructions, including removing the battery, holding on-off switch "on" while replacing the battery, choose one of the options, but the clean-up, format, etc. all seem to start but do not finish (I've left each for half a day and it never finishes).
I downloaded the new firmware and connected my Zen via the USB cable to my PC, but my PC does not see the Zen device and asks me to connect it even thought the device is connected and the "Creative" logo screen is displayed.
Does anyone have a strategy for correcting this issue? I can return the device, but I hate to since I love the idea of using it. It's cool.

    hi,
hope this is not too late... but try calling the creative support hotline .. have someone from creative walk you through the trouble-shooting in case something was missed when you tried it.
that way, you can get creative support to confirm if the device is defecti've or not and they can provide you suggestions on how to rectify it: return/exchange with seller, return/exhange through creative, etc.
i also went through that drama last week, when my micro was charging and never responded afterwards. turns out mines was defecti've even before i even played anything on it
i called amazon and was able to get them to send me another one. this new one was able to finish charging the battery ... i'm charging the 2nd battery to make sure and hopefully when that's done, i can start loading songs and test out the sound as well, recorder, calendar, etc .. as i wanted to make full use of all these features.
hope you get your micro working soon.. good luck!!!

  • Zen Micro stucked on docked scr

My 4gb zen micro keeps getting stucked at the docked screen.Btw...the arrows on the docked screen is black. This happens frequently when i upload music to my player. While uploading halfway,a message will appear 'the file could not be copied. It may not exist or is used by another program'.But there are no other programs running. When i play music from the zen media explorer, the zen micro also gets stucked at the docked screen.
There is also another problem. The zen micro sometimes make the music loud and sometimes makes the music very soft. I changed 3 sets of headphones but it is still the same. I tried the headphones on other products and it seems to work fine.
    Pls pls help me...

Btw...i haf tried the cleanup and formatting the player...but it still gets stuck often.
