Zen micro suggesti

so i just got a new zen micro becuase my other one was freezing. so i want to know what i should do to make it stay healthy and stuff. like, which programs i should and shouldnt use, which firmware to put on it, and so on. any suggestions would be fine. thanks.

I have PFS firmware and MTP mediasource/zen explorer updates on mine. I have not had any software issues. However, I did pop for Notmad Explorer because I wanted absolutely true drag and drop capabilities. I still use the Zen Micro software to rip my cds though. I upgraded everything as soon as I bought my player. No freezes, or whatever. Maybe it's fallout from my prayers for my headphone jack ;-)

  • ZEN MICRO: firmware improvements suggesti

Some suggestions and bug-signalations to improve firmware of Zen Micro. (actually I use fw .02.05): [*]play songs in a album not in alphabetical order, but using track number order, for me has more sense, do you? Because concept album, but all albums really, are betted listened in theway artist put their songs... I hope had been clear in my explanation.. [*]insert contacts and appointments direcly in ZenMicro without sincronize with Outlook...
for other useful suggestions people post here!!!
    UP THE IRONS!

. Tracks do play in order of the tag track number, if queued by album.
    2. Fair enough.
There are several petitions and wishlists already on the go, so it would probably be better to add your information to them. See Part 2 of the FAQ.

  • Suggestion: ZEN Micro Photo: Album art when playing tra

I was kinda hoping that you could display album art whilst playing tracks on the ZEN Photo. If you can, I can't figure it out, nor is it mentioned in the brief manual.
Please consider this as a suggestion to include the feature in the next firmware update. I also think it would be cool to be able to display a slide show durring audio playback. You could create presentations for the road or simply display slides in MTV fashion that go along with the tunes.
    What do ya think?

    * I've seen some comments on the screen being dim (or not as bright as expected). Can anybody confirm or debunk?
I set the screen contrast to 80 percent. In normal office lighting, pictures appear crisp and bright enough. In total darkness, looking at the screen won't hurt my eyes either. OLED rocks!
    * I've read reports about no music while viewing pictures. True or False?
    Unfortunately this is true.
    * Anybody using SUBSCRIPTION music on their Micro Photo If you are, can you see album art while a track is playing (like the Apple nano)?
Unfortunately again, album art is not displayed.
Overall I'm very happy with Zen Micro Photo. The only complain is that the radio is mediocre at best.

  • Pls post ur suggestions/comments on whether i get the zen micro.

pls post your suggestions, comments, reactions, etc etc regarding the zen micro. am planning to buy myself a hard dri've mp3 player (5gb or 4gb would suffice) and i still can't decide up to now on whether i should get the ipod mini or the creative zen micro. your suggestions would be highly appreciated.

I have a Zen Touch. I do not have an enormous music collection, but have maybe 50 or 60 albums on the player. This is something like 6 or 7 GB. It is WAY too much for me (even this much music). I do not need even that many songs on it at once. With support via WMP0 to synchronize, you could just synch up your favorites every time, switch them around, eventually synch up Napter 2 Go stuff and still have a ton on a 5 GB player. Features on the Micro that sound flashy but I would NEVER use are the calendar, contact thing. I have this on my phone, too, and don't use it. I have a PDA--I DO use that. An MP3 player is a pitiful substitute for a PDA (and a PDA is a lousy MP3 player). I would use the Audible Audio support in the Micro. Touch does not have this. I am a huge Audible fan. I had seriously looked at a Rio Carbon, but now that the Micro is out, that would be the player I would buy if I had it to do over again. They do need to develope a way to charge your extra battery for the Micro. The ability to swap batteries is pretty stupid the way it is now--you can only charge it in the player. They need a charger for the spare. Just my opinion, but I think some people get carried away with hard dri've potential. I can't forsee EVER wanting to carry that much music around with me, especially when it will be so easy to change what is on the player once full support for WMP0 comes out. I am just not away from my home computer library for that length of time that I would want to carry most of it around with me. I vote for the Micro.

  • Zen Micro - TouchPad problem and 2 suggest

    Hi all,
i've bough Zen Micro just a week ago, and it works well with the standard song inside it.
then, installed the CD, upgrade all by support download and also upgrade the firmware.
When i've unplugged USB my touchpad seems not responding, also the power button. the only method to turn off it is removing the battery. -.-"
the only think that works are the volume (just up and down, but not click) and the hold on position. the other think outside the pad seems works well, it can connect to PC, can delete file, and so on.
i just put it without battery some days and when try to re-use, it works perfectly!
now i've upgrade the firmware to .0 and go back to the official released avaiable, and that happens again! but now also the volume pad don't work at all...
I think that it's only a software problem, but i can't reboot the player because my pad don't works !!!
but when i insert the battery and press the hold on the rescue menu appears, but the same button don't work for turn the zen off.
    What can i do ?
Can have the 4 safety menu option via software? (suggest)
oh another stupid think, OT : when register in creative support, plz make the text box with the term of use readonly, because i can delete all the condition and press AGREE, so i think i virtually have no condition
    sorry for my bad english,
    regards

If the controls aren't working in Rescue Mode the player is faulty unfortunately. You need to contact Creative Support.

  • Next Zen Micro Firmware Suggesti

I thought it would be a good idea to have a section where people can put in their ideas for new zen micro firmware updates, as for myself i have 2
. when you select "random play all" from the DJ section it sets your micro to play in shuffle mode, then afterwards when u play music it shuffles the songs you had selected yourself. I think it would be a good idea to add to the next update when "random play all" is off, and one has selected the music on their own it resets to normal mode.
    2. the Creative Jukebox Zen had some EQ features that the Micro does not have. It was able to speed up and slow down songs by 2x. as well it had some EQ settings to make songs sound like they were being played in different enviroments, such as bathroom, concert hall, living room and such. I think the next firmware update should have these features included.
Anyone else got some ideas? :P

    mikerules,
    No, that's not true.
Where exactly did you read that? Do you have a link?

  • How to transfer all music in my Zen Micro to either my PC or another mp3 player....help ple

i have a creative micro zen with about 000 handpicked and some very hard to find songs on it...i don't really have trouble with the player itself, just the software and the continous problems seems like everyone is having with something... my question is this..........if i wanted to get another mp3 player as a backup in case this one crashes, then what does everyone think about one of the smaller ipods? what about their software and such? and, if i do decide to get an ipod, then how would i transfer all these 000 mp3 songs onto the new ipod? would there be an issue with the fact that they are not bought from itunes?? would it not be safe to do that? and if it is okay to do that,? how would i transfer the songs back onto my PC, as i have tried everything suggested on this board recently in trying to do that using Mediasource and it just won't work even after downloading all new plugins etc. if someone has an idea about this, please let me know step by step if possible about how i can get these songs that are valuable to me from my zen micro, to my computer, and then onto another mp3 and if ipod (nano for instance) is a wise choice or if there is another player in the same category that others have found they have waaaay less problems with and better support/service with it's?any help anyone gives would be greatly appreciated!? i appreciate all the suggestions to my other questions as well!?thanks, barb

for a new mp3 player, i would get this one, its awesome (and the one i would get if i had a choice instead of my microphoto that broke)... here's a link
http://reviews.cnet.com/Samsung_YP_T9_4GB_black/4505-6499_7-3208083.html the 4gb one is $80, the 2gb one is $30... so thats cheaper than an ipod, and much better features and stuff

  • ZEN MICRO won't hold it's charge!!!!!!!!!!

I have owned a 5GB Zen Micro for about 3 years. Up until about 4 months ago I had no problem with the unit holding it's charge for several hours. Now I can't get it to last for more than 0-5 minutes when using the FM radio. By that time the battery indicator shows hardly any charge left and then it does dead. Any [email protected]

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I had considered the possibility that the battery may indeed be at the end of it's life. As it turned out I also googled the model and battery name, and came up with a Canadian site that had?them on ?sale and decided that with postage it would be just as cheap as getting it'sdirectly from?the US with higher postage costs and the exchange rate. I love this model so much I hope to keep using it for years to come provided I have no further more costly problems. Despite it's greater thickness compared to similiar models it is a very attracti've looking unit.
The reason I chose?the Zen Micro?in the first place, as opposed to an iPod?was because I could replace the battery if need be, and also for it's FM radio capability. I?did have to have the chip that contains the earphone jack connections replaced last year, as many other owners have also had to do. But it was worth the $60 it cost me.

I had originally planned to buy an iPod back in '04, because everyone else had one, but after I saw? this video I decided to do some more research. I ended up with a 5 Gb Zen Micro in February '05 and wondered why anyone buys an iPod, when a far superior product was available from Creative.
The original battery started? to go about a year and a half ago, so I popped a new one in and kept on enjoying it. I thought that I would finally have to say goodbye to my little friend when I accidentally dropped it onto a tile floor. The dreaded click/whirr...click/whirr...click/whirr... of a dead hard dri've.
I read a few posts on the Say Goodbye to My Little Friend (Zen Micro)? thread and replaced the dead hard dri've with a SanDisk 8Gb? Ultra II Compact Flash card, using the instructions on? this page.
I was so happy to see it boot up aain and once the firmware was loaded, I started filling it up with some of my favourite music. It's nice to have an extra 3 Gb of storage space too!?

  • A way how to fix the Zen Micro head phone jack prob

Hi! I am one of the many people that purchased a Zen Micro MP3 player, I loved it until around 6 months of use, an audio shorting problem with the head phone jack, started to repeat it's self every time, that I would plug my head phone's into the Zen Micro head phone jack. After awhile, I was tired of this problem, so I just decided to never use it again, unless I could find out if the maker of the Zen Micro had a repair service. I noticed that some people had their Micro's replaced a few times under the warranty that is included with the player. I also noticed that some one created a way to fix this problem, but I wanted to see if I could find an easier way to fix the problem. Well I did end up finding an easier way to fix the problem, this is what I did.
Absolutely in all means I can't be held responsible / reliable for any unforseen thing / things, that you may or could, do to the Zen Micro, by following the instructions, which I provided. By trying what I did by following the instructions, which I provided you; you accept all responsibility to any thing / things, that may or could happen to the Zen Micro.
    The Instructions:
I took a stapler pressed it down to get a used staple then I carefully inserted it in the outer part of the plastic head phone jack ring. Then I pressed the rest of the staple flat against the Zen micro. And Now I get great sound, it is at least better than, the way it was before I inserted the staple. I would suggest to always remove the staple. When you connect the Zen Micro to a computer, charging device, or any other device other than a pair of head phones. You understand that if you leave the staple inserted in the Zen Micro and don't remove it. While you have it connected to a computer, charging device, or any other device, or devices, even a pair of head phones, and some thing happens, you can't hold me responsible.
If you would like to see a photo of how it looks please reply to this message and just include your email address please. I will send it to you as soon as possible. The photo has 4 photos sized down to perfectly fit on one photo, so you can get a good idea of what it should look like.

  • Zen micro not recognized.. reform

so my zen micro is no longer recognized by my pc at home or at work..
i have firmware .0.03 installed from nomadworld and everythings been working fine for weeks. the player still works (music) but the removeable disk doesn't (not recognized by pc). is it worth it to go into rescue mode and reformat the whole thing? i don't want to lose all of my music (its backed up on my pc) and still not have my device be recognized
    yelp!

    Jess,
The PlayForSure firmware is intended to work with Windows XP platform. If you're going to work with other OS, I would suggest you to reload the firmware to the other firmware version .xx.xx. You can find this firmware from the download page too. Note that you need to perform this update process on your XP computer.

  • How I got my zen micro to wo

I bought a Zen micro for my wife for Xmas. Last night i was having the worst time trying to get it to play nice with my computer.
    P4 w/ Xp home sp2.
It just wouldn't work. I tried reinstalling the different software 4 times. Finally i loaded it up on my old computer ( trying to phase it out)
    P3 w/ Win ME
It works like a champ on that pc, ABSOLUTELY NO PROBLEMS!! I was able to update the firmware on this pc.
So i retried it on the new PC, still nothing. Then today i was goofing around and it worked. It seems I have to start up th Zen micro explorer first, wait for it to tell me its not connected, then connect the device. Won't work otherwise if its not in that order. I have yet to load the other software, still debating if I'm going to or not.
My opinions of the Micro so far are so-so. It works fine on a comp I don't want to be using. I have to do a song and dance for it to work on MY pc. It sounds great! Battery life is yet to be determined. Will update the thread once we have had it a while.
If you are having problems similiar to mine, you can try what i have and hopefully it will help. Comments and suggestions welcome.

I'm not sure if it will help but there is some general connection troubleshooting advice here.

  • My PC won't recognize Zen Micro- please h

I have Windows 98 on an older PC, and am planning on buying a new computer later this year. I received the Zen Micro as a Xmas gift but am just now getting around to loading songs onto it (so my free service is expired). It's supposed to be Windows 98 compatible but the MediaSource won't recognize the player. I downloaded WMP series 9, and it will sometimes not recognize the Micro at all, sometimes recognize it but freeze up when I choose the device, sometimes freeze up when I try to open the Music folder within the Micro, and about in 20 attempts it will recognize the device perfectly and transfer mp3's (after having to be continuously rebooted). I have used my Zen Micro on other computers with Windows XP with no problems at all. Short of shelving my player for 6 mos until I get a new computer with XP or Longhorn, does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks for the suggestion. Although I didn't download new drivers, after speaking with the motherboard manufacturer I went and bought an external powered USB dri've. This didn't really help, so I tried buying a new USB PCI card. Now it works perfectly. I guess there's a problem with my old USB port. Anyway, the tip indirectly solved my problem so thanks.

  • SOLUTION - Zen Micro Photo Stuck in Recovery M

My Zen Micro Photo got stuck in recovery mode after I followed Creative Labs Technical Support suggestions. They had me do a Clean Up, a Format All a Reload Firmware and a Reboot. After doing this my unit was stuck in Recovery Mode. They then had me load the latest firmware. v .3.0, from a PC connection and I found that it worked fine, but doing the above steps put me back into Recovery Mode hell. So I did some testing.
I loaded firmware version .20.0 from my PC thinking the problem might be in the firmware version. Doing the steps they had asked me to do caused me to be in Recovery Mode Hell, so again I loaded firmware from my PC.
This time I went through each item one at a time and rebooted after each. Clean Up/Reboot, Format ALL/Reboot and Reload Firmware/Reboot. They all booted normally except when I did a Reload Firmware.
Next I loaded firmware v .3.0 to my unit again and did the same test. Again it put me in Recovery Mode Hell after I selected Reload Firmware from the Recovery Mode screen.
Conclusion DO NOT LOAD FIRMWARE FROM RECOVERY MODE. If you have to load firmware at all, do it from your PC connection. I'm going to copy this into the VERY LONG message I have had with Creative Labs Technical Support over the past 5 days and let them know what I have found. I hope this helps others to fix their Micro Photo.

I am having a similar problem. I am stuck in recovery mode and my PC won't recognize the MP3 player at all? I have rebooted, cleaned up, formatted, pulled the batt, etc. Finally I pulled the battery for longer than 30 seconds and that seemed to fix the problem. We will see.

  • Help! My Zen Micro is detected but not connected to zen media explorer & mediasou

    Hi
recently i just bought a creative zen micro at 5 GB. after installing all the drivers and programs using the installation CD that came with my player, I connected my player through the USB cable to my pc USB root hub.
an auto-detect of my zen micro window pops up at the righthand corner, prompting me to click 'organize' in the creative media source. clicking the organize option, mediasource program starts but while it is loading the music library, an error message: CTCMS, The program has performed a illegal operation......etc.
i tried disconnecting my player followed by opening the media source prog and connecting my player after that. another error message: file operation failed. please ensure that your player is properly connected.
I'm using windows 98 SE on an AMD processor. i was able to use the removable disk mode of my player to store data from pc. However when comes to the media mode of my player, it is shown as not connected status in the zen micro media explorer and in the creative media source program, it's either shown as not properly connected or illegal operation when loading music library from my player. in addition, under the device manager, the creative zen micro driver is shown as working properly. i was also able to upgrade my firm ware to version .02.05. using my pc to connect to my player. However, even before upgrading the firmware, this problem is already present. i have contacted the creative technical support helpdesk for advise on this issue and they have suggested to me various solutions such as checking my drivers if they are updated, reinstalling the drivers and software applications for the media library, installing jet engine service pack for my windows and the MDAC component but still nothing works.
anyone have any suggestions? pls help
    thanks

    Hi,
Sorry I can't help you. I just wanted to let you know I have the same exact problem. It started three days ago and I've been going back and forth with creative support and nothing has worked. I am beginning to grow really distressed. I feel a little better now because after seeing that it's happening with someone else, it is most likely not the player. I am running windows 98 SE as well. I also have an AMD Duron processor. I have a new computer on the way with windows XP I really hope it works. But now I have a new problem. I listed it on the front page of this forum a few minutes ago. My player froze and now only boots up in rescue mode. I am getting so frustrated with my player. If you figure anything out will you be as kind as to send me a message on how you got your player working again? I would really appreciate it. Thanks.
