Zen Micro transfer probl

At first I thought it was Napster, but...
When I try to transfer to my Zen Micro from Napster To Go, I get errors and have to ctrl-alt-del Napster. So I went to Creative MediaSource Organizer and tried to transfer from there... the same thing happens. I get errors and have to ctrl-alt-del. I can transfer the first few songs, but the transfer is VERY slow, and I eventually get the errors again.
I've tried reinstalling *everything*, including formatting my Micro and reinstalling the firmware and drivers. Has anyone had a problem with this? Is there some setting I should change on my computer?
Thanks.Message Edited by JennyZ on 0-5-2005 0:57 PM

  • Zen Micro - transfer lock ups with latest firmwa

I've been trying to transfer mp3 files to my firmware upgraded Zen Micro and find that the transfer slows down and then locks the player after 30-40 files have successfully copied. This happens with ..0 and 2.2.02 firmwares.
The player will then remain in a 'acti've' docked state (black arrows) until the battery is removed. After this lock up tags on the mp3 files are messed up and display Chinese looking characters in the Details View.
This happens on two different computers with USB2.0, one Intel based and the other AMD.
Two questions - anyone know if this is a known issue being worked on for an imminent firmware update? And secondly - is the problem aggravated (or even created) because I am trying to copy files over from a directory tree (mp3's sorted into artist/album/ folders) rather than one flat folder with all mp3s in it (ie. in one single folder).

I'd try transferring fewer files at a time and see if that works.
You might be on to something with copying from a directory tree too. See if transferring the files in smaller groups from one folder helps out.
You can always organize the artists/albums later in Zen Micro Media Explorer or Creative MediaSource.

  • Creative zen micro transfer prob

When using Napster to transfer songs to my zen micro mp3 player the following happens.
License storgae is not working.Contact microsoft product support.
When I hit click here for more information nothing happens.
It has worked previously without any problems! Can anybody help??

Here is a list of things to check:
) Confirm you have Windows Media Player 0 installed on your XP SP or later system.
    2) Confirm your Zen Micro has the latest 2.x firmware (2..02 Beta or later). The .x firmware does not support N2G. Download the 2..02 Beta firmware from http://us.creative.com/support/downloads
    3) Confirm KB8922 "Update for Windows Media Digital Rights Management-enabled players" is installed on your XP SP or later system with WMP 0. See http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;8922 for details.
    4) Confirm your Zen Micro's system time is synched to the system time of your computer.
    5) Confirm XP and the Napster client recognize your Zen Micro is connected. It should display under the "Portable Device" object in the "Library" window of the Napster client. The Zen Micro Display should read "Docked". See if you can transfer files using WMP 0. Confirm the Creative Zen Micro Media Explorer version .00. ( http://us.creative.com/support/downloads ) can access your Zen Micro. Can it transfer tracks to the device?
    6) Confirm your firewall is not interfering with the connection to Napster or to the internet for current date and time. Consider disabling firewall, Antivirus, and Spyware Scanners as a diagnostic step to troubleshoot your transfer issue.
    7) Consider reinstalling Windows Media Player 0 and KB8922.
    8) Check the USB cable connection. Determine the USB chipset on your system. There are forum threads where users resolved transfer problems by installing a new USB Adapter with a different chipset or determined the problem was the USB cable. You can also troubleshoot by attempting the transfer on another computer (if available).

  • ZEN MICRO TRANSFERING PROBL

I have a Zen Micro 5GB with the last firmware (the problem is also with the .X firmware), and when I connect it to the computer, it recognizes it and I can browse the ZEN content and start transfering songs (From Creative Media Source or WMP0).
After many songs (some times in the song # 208 or # 20), the transfer stops and the ZEN seems to be freezed, so I need to restart it pulling out the battery, and if I try to connect it back to the computer I cannot continue transfering songs.
The problem is not a song, because I can transfer most songs separately, but if you're asking why I do not transfer one by one, is because it happens again, with another song, the transfer stops in 80% or 98% or 65% and no response back.
I have always to format the player in order to start the transfer again.
Please if you know something that work with this, tell me... pleeeeeaaaaaseeeeee!!!
    Thank you.

The transfer speeds should be much faster if you use one of the MTP firmwares (2.xx). Also, are you using USB 2.0?

  • Zen Micro USB proble

Okay, I have this problem, and I have looked through all the topics, and found problems similar to mine, but the answers are just unclear to me. I guess you could say I am bad with technology, so I don't understand a lot of things.. So if you could help me, and maybe explain everything simply, I would greatly, GREATLY, appreciate it.
Okay, I just got the Zen Micro today, and I installed everything. When I connected the Zen to the USB cord however, a little pop up in the bottom right-hand corner of my screen appeared. It said, " A HI-SPEED USB device is plugged into a non-HI-SPEED USB hub."
I have no idea what this means, or HOW I can fix this.
ALSO.. When I try to download the playforsure software.. A little pop appears again, saying, " Easy Start CD requires Service Pack or later to install on Windows XP. "
Once again, what is the Service Pack and where do I get this?
Heh.. Thank you so much for at least reading this, I appreciate it.

. It sounds like you don't have a USB2 port on your computer. The Zen should still transfer files, just a lot slower. You can get a USB @ card installed for not too much money. It's quite simple to do.
    2. Service Pack & 2 are updates for Windows XP. You can get them at Windows Update.

  • Zen micro connections probl

We just changed our OS from xp home to xp professional because our technican said that our xp home doesnt support usb 2.0 When it was done I got the zen micro cd and installed meciasource, drivers, zen micro explorer and wmp 0. Our PC has 4 usb ports, 2 front 2 back. When I tried connecting my micro to the first front port it wasnt recognized and my micro locked up. I had to remove the battery to get it going again. Then I tried the other front port and it worked.
Then after a few days I connected my micro and the usual box that pops out from the system tray pops out that its connected. However in mediasource it says player not connected. I tried restarting my PC but it didnt work. So I did a disk cleanup on my micro and it was recognized by mediasource. But after transfering the first two songs it timed out on the next couple of songs. Then it transferred some songs. When it was done my player wasnt recognized by mediasource. I tried the two back ports but only one is working. The other one has the same problem as stated above.
Can anyone help me fix this? Its such a hassle to use the back port every time coz I have to move some things around the PC to acces the back ports. All usb ports are working with our digital camera. Im also afraid that waht happened to the front port that was working previously would happen to the back port and then I cant transfer any songs anymore.

    miguel wrote:
The front ports worked with the micro for a while after installing xp pro. And it was usb 2.0. On our xp home that is always updated the front ports were only usb .. So this means that our front ports are usb 2.0 right?
The de facto way to check is (a) to ensure you have XP SP, and that you've double checked in Device Manager that the chipset has automatically upgraded to USB2 (it doesn't always happen) and (b) to connect a high speed device to the port.
Our digicam and cellphone all connect on the front ports in usb 2.0 Only the micro doesnt work the front ports.
I've just written this in another post, that not all USB chipsets are made equal. Cheaper chipsets no doubt aren't fully tested or they don't comply with the full USB standard. Creative have assured that their players and drivers are completely compliant with the USB standard. BUT it could be some other bug comes into play, either with the Creative driver or the chipset and drivers. Hard to say. I've seen similar problems with iPods.
I think our usb came with the motherboard. I dont remember any pci cards. I think our mobo is intel D865GBV but im not really sure. Is there a way to know what our motherboard is?
You can use a product like Belarc Adviser, which will check the hardware contents of the PC.

  • ZEN Micro - weird probl

    Hello.
Im having some reeealy weird problems with my zen micro. Im not really sure what happened to it since i didnt do anything unusal. i just set the alarm and thought id also charge it through the night and as i pluged the AC adapter and turned the player off it froze at 'shutting down...'. so i had to unplug it and remove the battery to turn it off. but when i tried to turn it on again it froze at 're-building library'. i removed the battery again but after i tried to turn it on it froze again and again. so i tried the clean up thing, but it did not fix the problem so i had to format the dri've. after formating the player seemed to work just fine so i started transferring songs. but it froze just after i transfered some 30 songs. i removed the battery again and tried turnimg it on again, but it then froze at 're-building library' again. tried clean up again but in the end i had to format it once more. after formating i tried transferring songs again but it froe again just after transfering less than 50 songs! no matter how many times i formated it the problem kept occuring again and again. so i upgraded the firmware to 'plays for sure' and tried transfering songs using WMPlayer. that did not fix the problem either. i cant seem to be able to get more than 200 songs on the player without it freezing. the strange thing is that now (using the plays for sure firmware) after transfering some songs - when it freezes and i remove the battery it does not freeze at 're-building library' anymore. it rebuilds the library and starts up normally. when i select music library everything seems to be okay too. but when i add some tracks to selected music and go to 'now playing' there r no artist names or song titles - it does not display any info. clean up does not help and after i format the dri've again and upload some songs everything works fine again, but when i try to transfer more songs it freezes again and i get no titles again and have to format it again.
i tried uploading songs in small portions - like 30 songs, then turning it off for half an hour and then uploading another portion but it freezes eventually anyway and i have to format it again.
im not really sure what to do - i think i've tried almost everything. is there anything else i could try? and what could be the problem? cause i thought maybe some mp3 file was corrupt or something. but i dont think so anymore since it froze when i was transfering my coldplay's albums once but when i formated and tried transfering those albums again the player did not freeze.

I think you've tried all that you can. Time to contact Creative Support, links for which are in the FAQ post.

The transfer speeds should be much faster if you use one of the MTP firmwares (2.xx). Also, are you using USB 2.0?

  • Zen micro photo proble

ok so i've had my zen micro photo since last summer, which means that the creative lab crew wont help me since my purchase is over a year old. lame. well i had a minor 2 ft drop with my buddy, and it wont work. when i turn it on, it freezes on the "creative" screen. then when i get to the option window so i can attempt to clean it out, it wont work, i would like to say that it freezes also on all the options, but i cant really tell. those are i guess minor problems. i dont really know, but it also will occassionally make this odd "skipping" noise when i take the battery out and replace it so it will restart. this kid at Best Buy said that it has a small rotating disk on the inside and that it could of cracked or isnt on properly. but this is a drag. and you would think that i could just plug my baby into the computer with the USB cord, but now it wont even respond to the computer, or the computer wont recognize it. if you have any advice that would be swell.

i asked that same question because my zen micro broke no responded, but i did get a microphoto and have not had any problems yet.

  • Zen Micro Transfer Sti

    Hi Everyone,
Can anyone help me with a really frustrating problem I am having with transfering from my notebook to my Micro?
I peridoically get a CD that I can partly rip to my Micro then every now and then (usually on exactly the same track) the rip will freeze at xyz% which is really frustrating because I listen to classical music and it often breaks a piece up!
Also, does anyone know how to get MS Media player to recognize my Zen Micros because I prefer Media Player to the zen software (sorry Creative but thats how I feel)
    Tia
    Jonathan

To see what firmware you are running, just select System from the Menu, then choose Information. This will show you your firmware version, how much disk space you have left on the device, etc.

  • Zen Micro Control proble

Hey guys, I just recieved a micro for christmas and noticed on mine, when the battery level indicates I have two bars left The control just freezes up on me and end up having to actually push hard on the touch pad for them to work. Is this a defect? Thx all.

First time I've heard mention of it. I would check that you have at least the .0.03 firmware, and that you've run a disk cleanup. To access the Rescue Mode on the Zen Micro, remove the battery, hold the power switch to the "on" position, reinsert the battery. Choose Disk Cleanup from the menu.

  • Zen Micro sync proble

Hi,I?formated my pc and installed all creative software as usuall but i cant sync my music from my mp3 player to my pc.. I tryed by dragging the files through "Organize music in device" button, but when i dragged the .mp3's the pc was "busy" but nothing came out.. Then i tryed the "Sync music between pc and device" button, this way was good but in the end i saw that i was transfering file with errors?with no weight.. Well thats my problem, now i got no music files on my pc.. but i still can hear them by connecting my player. So if someone got any suggestion, feel free to post.. Thank's

Again, you have to be a little more specific.
You tried doing what? When and how did it fail?
You said earlier that you could change some songs, now you can't do even that?
Have you changed sth with your player (firmware is what comes to mind).
Did you tried uninstalling all Creative programs, rebooting downloading the LATEST versions of the programs and then installing those instead?
BTW, it DOES matter which firmware version your player has:
If it is .xx.xx (eg ..0) then you should download and install THE LATEST versions of:
    Zen and Jukebox Driver (v.30.03)
    Zen Micro Media Explorer (v4.00.27)
    MediaSource Player-Organizer (v3.30.2)
    AND
    Jukebox plugin (v2.00.20) for MediaSource
If it is 2.xx.xx (eg 2.2.02) then you should install Windows Media Player 0 along with ALL the latest hotixes from microsoft.
If when by fail you mean that it worked ok for your friend but when you got back it didn't for you then it DEFINITELY means that there's a problem with your PC, not the player...
If this don't help ask again anything.

  • Zen Micro headphone probl

I bought my Zen Micro in mid November(Limited Edition w/ extra battery) and has bee working fantastically until now. As I twist the headphone jack inside its socket, the sound of the music becomes very echo like and very soft but if I continue twisting it then it returns to normal. This has been very persistent for the last month and customer support has been unresponsi've. I only use my Zen on trips and at school, never for excersising and have never dropped it. On occation, if you tug on the headphone jack in just the right way, the player automatically turns on so sometimes in class, my music starts to play. I've called everyday since 5/2 at 3:00pm Western(California) and only get a message telling me the business hours. E-mail has been unresponsi've.
My friend at school also told me that in the first gen Zen Micros that this is a common problem and told me to refer to these fourms and I haven't found much at all with the Search Bar. Thank you for all your help!
