Zen Micro - transferring voice recordi

Hi there,
I've just done a few recordings on my Zen Micro. Is it possible to transfer them on to my PC?

i have a n200 (not a zen micro)
the recorded files indeed exist in the "Recorded Tracks" folder, but although they seem to be plain WAV files i can only play them with mediasource.
Playing them with Windows' Mediaplayer just gives me an "unable to find codec" message
I have the drivers installed, do i need a codec to play WAV files?! Isn't a WAV file supposed to be raw audio-data?

  • Micro and Voice Record

    Not a complaint, a testimonial!
Been using the Micro since end Jan this year. It's been a lifesaver during 2.5 hours of daily commute on the train and subway. Audible Books, Podcasts and of course my Music.
Wanted to mention another great utility in the Micro, the Voice Recorder.
My wife had minor surgery recently and after it was over, the Doc came out with some very clear pictures of the results (to him at least) and walked me, and my mother-in-law, through a little running commentary. Needless to say, on my own I'd never remember a tenth of what he said, but I pulled out my trusty little Micro and turned on the recorder.
The next day we're at home and the wife is coherent again and I pulled out the pictures, hooked up the Micro, and played back his dialogue word for word! She feels better hearing his words, I feel better because nothing he said was missed by me.
    One word, Awesome!
Some of you probably use this facility daily, but I'll bet many have forgotten it's even an option on the Micro. Hopefully you'll find this useful.

    Hey,
I said it urgent because ...i have to show up a
up a model to my client how it works out!.......if i
won't show him a model...atleast...how can belive me?Well, we certainly don't. Personally, I wouldn't take on a client for a project that I had no clue how to accomplish - I consider that unethical. Even worse, if your original requirements are the real ones, you're selling your client a load of bullshit - you cannot deliver what you've promised.
I sincerely hope your client doesn't believe you - because you're not telling them the truth...

  • Zen Vision: M Voice recorder feature for school quest

Hello guys. I am very close to purchasing a Zen Vision: M 30GB MP3 Player.
My main concern is with the Voice Recording function since i wish to record
    school lectures.
Will anyone who owns one of these or has direct information, please discuss this with me?
] How clear are the recordings? I'm planning to record 2-3 hour lectures at a time
2] I've been hearing there is a faint noise due to the hard-disk of the unit, does it present an issue?
3] How is the battery life, in terms of recording?
Any additional information you have dealing with recording, will be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you in advance,
    ~Dimitriy

Go to "Music Library" then select "Artists" and to your desired artist.

  • Creative zen micro line-in recordi

I read a review of the zen micro at CNET.com, and their short video clip tells me that the zen micro has line-in recording. However, nowhere does it state/mention that feature in the zen micro homepage, nor is it mentioned in any other site. I would just like to confirm that the zen micro doesn't have line-in recording...

Yep, the CNET.COM video review did mention about a line-in recording function. But maybe because that video was recorded way before the Zen Micro was actually launched, therefore there was a mix up in information. And so no, Creative Zen Micro does not have a line-in recording function. However, the Zen Neeon and Zen Nano Plus does have line-in recording if you're interested =)

  • Zen Micro- Line in recording????!

i've just seen on the cnet review site that the zen micro has line-in-recording and i've owned one for month but didnt know this!!
more importantly, if this is true, how comes i havent come accross it in the menues?
    is it possible and how?

Proof that CNET is not a trustworthy source. They have their head stuck too far up Apple's butt to RTFM.
    Heh
And no, it does not have line in recording.

  • ZEN MICRO TRANSFERING PROBL

I have a Zen Micro 5GB with the last firmware (the problem is also with the .X firmware), and when I connect it to the computer, it recognizes it and I can browse the ZEN content and start transfering songs (From Creative Media Source or WMP0).
After many songs (some times in the song # 208 or # 20), the transfer stops and the ZEN seems to be freezed, so I need to restart it pulling out the battery, and if I try to connect it back to the computer I cannot continue transfering songs.
The problem is not a song, because I can transfer most songs separately, but if you're asking why I do not transfer one by one, is because it happens again, with another song, the transfer stops in 80% or 98% or 65% and no response back.
I have always to format the player in order to start the transfer again.
Please if you know something that work with this, tell me... pleeeeeaaaaaseeeeee!!!
    Thank you.

  • Zen Micro - Trick to recording lectures, etc from distan

The Zen Micro's inbuilt microphone is not as responsi've for when the sound source is several meters away. The low volume recording can be amplified using a program called mp3 gain.
    Steps:
    ) Record
    2) Download on to your PC, use Creative Media Source to convert the Wav file to mp3. Use mono if its a lecture or non music source. The bit rate does not really mater, just use 64 kpbs.
    3) Download and install mp3Gain. Its a freeware program. http://mp3gain.sourceforge.net/download.php
    4) Open program, keep the volume setting at 89, you can raise it up a bit if you want but 89 db should work fine.
    5) Select the mp3 file. Select "track analysis" and it will tell you the possible volume gain. Then click "track gain" and it will save the settings.
The recording should then be audible under normal volume. I wouldn't follow these steps for a music recording, but for lectures, etc, this works great.

    sganjam,
I tried this method of urs and i must say, im impressed, I can hear the lectures much easily now and i dont have to raise the volume up all the way. I can listen to it on normal level..thanks a lot

  • Zen Micro transfering mu

When i try to transfer my playlists, it doesnt transfer it as a whole playlist, it transfers it as a seperate track. when i go into my library on my Zen Micro it says i dont have any playlists. I click on my playlist and drag it onto my sync list, maybe im doing it wrong?

    SSR wrote:
Are you using MediaSource? This doesn't have the ability to transfer playlists as such. You have to manually recreate the playlist on the player and then copy the playlist contents from the PC Music Library to the playlist on the player.
You can use Windows Media Player with the v2 firmware to sync playlists.
I think Realplayer might have something along these lines also, but I'm not 00% sure.
I thought MediaSource has this ability, but I may be wrong.

The manual that came on the CD with your player (or get it from the website - see the link below) has this info in. It is much better than the hardcopy manual.

  • Zen Micro - - - Setting Recording Lev

    Hi All,
Is there any way on the Zen Micro to adjust recording levels? Everyone knows that all CD original recordings were not created equally - some are loud, some too loud, some recorded at barely a whisper. I want to make sure that the flow of different tracks on my Zen Micro are all at the same level. Any help would be appreciated. Happy Holidays!!
    Dan S.

Thanks SSR. I tried it out and it seems that the "Smart Volume" function lowers the volume of the majority of tracks to the lowest common denominator level - meaning that louder and better cd recordings are lowered to match the less than stellar recrdings. I was hoping to boost the lower recordings to a higher level since the micro zen paired with the Sony fontopia E7 earbuds already struggles with louder volume reproduction.
With my old tape deck recorder, I could boost or lower the recording level at the source instead of manipulating the signal after it is recorded.
    Thanks.

  • Zen Micro voice recording probl

I borrowed my roommate's Zen Micro to record some li've voice tracks. I recorded fine, and I am able to listen to them on headphones with the Micro.
The problem I am having is getting these tracks to a place on the computer where I can can make the tracks into a disc. I downloaded the software for the player from the disc that my roommate has twice now, with the same results. The Zen Micro media explorer does not recognize the player when it is plugged in, and neither does the Creative Media Source software. Windows Media Player (verion ) does recognize it, and I can download the tracks, but when I try to play them back, it just scrolls through each one and will not actually play them.
So, I have tried dowloading the software, removing it and downloading it again. I tried the old version of Media Player, with the result being that I could not view the player at all, so reinstalled version . I am running XP with SP2.
Any and all suggestions would be appreciated, as these recordings are for a gift!

Yes, you can put the recordings onto your computer in WMA format. The sound quality is great for what I use it for.

  • Voice Recording Issue - Zen Micro

    Hello,
I have the 5Gb version of the Zen Micro and I'm running it with version ..0 of the software. I'm a Uni'versity student and I use the device for recording lectures. It records properly but I like to off load the files to my main computer and sometimes I'll share them with absent classmates.
I've had this device for over a year now and I'm usually able to drag and drop the files using the Creative MediaSource Organizer version 3.30.2. In the past this has NOT been a huge issue because if the drag and drop fails to copy the file, or if it errors out when copying, I usually just reboot the player and try again.
Sometimes it takes awhile but I've only NOT been able to get file off of the device. To give you some idea of how much I use it, I'm in either 4-5 classes a semester and I tape almost all of them. Like I said...in the past year that I've had it, I have only had file that I couldn't copy off the player.
Today, I tried to copy recordings over but nothing is working. I know the files on the player are OK because I listented to the one that was erroring and it's there, I just can't get it off the player. A classmate needs these copies but I can't get them to him becuase of these errors. NOTHING works. I've tried dragging and droping, synching even following the links when it errored and Microsoft told me to come here for updates.
I should also add that I've tried copying many different files off of the device today...not just the first one on the list and nothing will copy.
I have ALLL the updates installed and still no copying. What can I do? Am I outta luck?Message Edited by John-OKC5 on 09-9-2006 09:20 PM

Like I mentioned in my first post, it has ALWAYS been a problem getting the recordings off the device. It's never just worked, like soo many other devices do.
Next, it was only in the past 3-4 months that the marginally working methods completly failed me. However, during the WHOLE time I've had the device, I've always had my FW and VS software up and running. So I was able to copy files off the device but it was problematic. However, nothing has changed in the past 3-4 months except what used to partially work...no longer works or is limping along. Rolling back is not an option because there is no point in time where it worked w/o failing.
Finally, Creative devolopers can always be of help because they are familiar with how their products work. They may not guarantee no conflicts and in all honesty I'm not saying they should. However, they should be acti've in this forum to help resolve issues....but in the threads I've seen...no developers.
Oh and when I told Windows to send the error report, it came back with a message that the creative developers have a fix for the problem. However, when I click on the link it takes me to the patch for the device and/or the newest version of creative media source. BOTH OF WHICH I ALREADY HAVE.....so really, they don't have a solution for the problem.Message Edited by John-OKC5 on 09-2-2006 0:53 PM

  • Zen Micro Audio Recording Opt

I'm shopping around for a digital music player. I noticed that the Zen Micro has an audio recording option, which will supposedly record up to 0 hours, is that correct? I was wondering if this recording would save as a file I could transfer to my computer or if I must listen to it on the device. Also, I think I read that the largest (data?) file size that can be held on the player is 2GB. Would this apply to a maximum-length recording? How big of a file would that be? Also, do audiobooks fit on the Micro? And the same questions apply to recordings taken from the radio.
    Thank you!
    Amber

I concur with college boy, additionally the voice recorder is surprisingly good quality, but the FM reciever gets, like all of the small portables I've owned, inconsistant to poor reception. This may be due to my location as I have seen posts on this forum claiming excellent reception. Either way, I doubt the recordings are anywhere near the quality you would get from downloading from your computer.
I have transfered several audio books from cd>computer>micro, and because the files from audio discs is usually encoded at a very low bit-rate 64kb or even less, they take up very little space on the micro.
One caution about audio books is that the tagging is usually very simple ie. "track 0, 02, etc so that with multi-disc books, which most are, you will either have to load one disc at a time and delete it when you are finished, or rename the tracks on discs subsequent to disc one or the new disc will replace the old one. When renaming tracks on second and third etc discs use two letters and three numbers.
For example: For John Grisham's--King of Torts, I named the tracks KT00, KT002 etc.
Audio discs are a nice complement to the music by the way. I get tired of tunes after a couple of hours and enjoy listening to a story for awhile. I listen to "Car Talk" and "A Prarrie Home Companion" on NPR on weekends.
