Zen Micro USB connection problem solv

I've been having a major problem getting my Zen Micro to work with my Dell Dimension 2400 which I understand has been causing many people the same problem - I had various posts about this on the old forums.
To recap, the problem was that XP would detect the device but WMP0 would say that there was no device attached (even though it was visible in device manager) - the Zen MTP would also not recognise it's presence even though I had the plays-for-sure firmware installed.
After lots of searching I finally found a solution and here it is:
Run REGEDIT and navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet, right click the key called ENUM and select "Permissions"
On my machine, I had a group called "Administrators" and "SYSTEM" but that's all. Click "Add" and add a new group called "Everyone" (just type it in and click "OK" to return).
Highlight the new "Everyone" group and in the lower box check the box marked "Read" - this will ensure that all users have read access to this registry hi've.
That's it - it worked for me and I'm delighted at being able to use the Zen properly now, hope this helps someone else.
Normal caveats apply, so please be careful if you make changes to the registry.

I did that as well. Heres what happens. I take the battery out. I then plug in the USB cable and reinsert the battery. The title screen comes up and then goes to the next screen which just says "Creative" then locks up. The battery charging icon in the upper right corner does not flash to indicate that it is actually charging. I will leave it in this state for the next hour or so to see if it does anything for the battery. I suppose if I had a seperate battery charger unit, the unit would work normally. This is just a guess as I have not yet tried it.

  • Zen Micro "not connected" problem since upgrading firmw

    Hi All,
I have had the zen micro for a week and it has been working fine with original firmware & software supplied on CD.
After noticing the battery life was poor, I decided to upgrade the firmware.
This is where all my troubles began...
After upgrading the firmware to 2.00.2 I found that when I connected my player it was now recognised at an MTP device and windows asks me if I would like WMP (windows media player) to sync with the device.
If I select yes, it tries to find the device in WMP and tells me it is not connected !
If I go into Control Panel- Device Manager tells me that I DO have a zen micro connected under the "Windows Media Devices" section.
Zens micro media explorer now also fails to see my device and thinks it is disconnected.
So I have no way of transferring files to my zen micro.
In an attempt to remove the problem I try going into rescue mode on the zen and reloading the firmware to an earlier version, with a version I have downloaded from this website .0.03.
The zen successfully erases the firmware and behold, my pc still fails to recognise the device so it cannot install any firmware on top of this.
So now I have a Zen with no firmware installed (and a "firmware problem" message everytime I turn it on) and a pc that won't recognise it anymore.
I have spent a good 5 hours this evening trying to fix this.
I have tried everything on these forums, but I simply cannot get my PC to connect to the zen micro, despite it recognising it everytime I connect it !
Please help before me or the zen dies !
    Thanks,
    Mat.

Here is a note I sent to the Creative support folks. They simply suggested I go back to firmware .0.03.
I have to admit, going back to the other firmware update does not seem to be the true resolution, but I really don't have any more time to waste fixing your bugs. So, I am now on .0.03. It's a good thing I synchronized all 920+ songs, or I would not be a happy camper right now. :-)
I will tell you it appears to be a multiple USB issue with your new firmware. I experimented with this, and found that if I have my iPAQ connected into my USB ports, as well as my USB mouse, my USB CD/DVD dri've and my USB Keyboard, the MTP explorer will not recognize the Zen Micro.
When I take the iPAQ out, magically, the Zen Micro gets recognized and the MTP Explorer is working. THIS ONLY HAPPENS WITH THE MTP FIRMWARE!!
I am now back to the .0.03 release of the firmware and none if this happens. As I write this to you, I have everything connected and I am ripping a CD to my device - no problems. I am fortunate however to have a laptop that I was able to do this with, otherwise I would be in the same place others are, and the upgrade frimware doesn't ever recognize the Zen Micro, even though it is in the Device Manager. ?
So, I would say, that your MTP firmware takes control too much, and seems to substitute for something like an iPAQ, where they cannot co-exist or other USB harware, such as a memory reader (CF, SmartMemory, etc.). This is not a PC USB issue, in my mind. It is a firmware issue that is causing the conflict.
    Thanks.

  • Zen Nano Plus connection problems - SOLVED (1/2/06)

I recently bought the Nano Plus. On first installation everything worked fine. I decided to upgrade to the latest drivers and firmware via downloads from the Creative site. At some point during the firmware upgrade, everything seemed to hang. Eventually I had to halt the process, disconnect the player and reboot.
When I plugged the player back in, it is detected as a USB Mass Storage Device, but Windows Explorer and the Zen Nano Plus Media Explorer both claim that the device is not connected.
Here's what I have done so far:
)Uninstalled all drivers and Creative software, rebooted, reinstalled drivers/software, rebooted. When plugging the player in, a brief window pops up saying Zen Nano Plus has been detected. This is followed by USB Mass Storage Device being detected (this window stays up a lot longer, sometimes more than 5-0 minutes before disappearing).
2)Another uninstall/reinstall, but this time with a registry cleanup in between. Same result.
3)Tried installing installation cd on partner's laptop and plugging in the player. Absolutely everything works fine. So it's not my player. There must be something I still need to do on my desktop to get everything to work again.
4)Have also tried plugging into every USB outlet on the desktop. No change.
    My system:
    Windows XP (sp 2)
    3.2 GHz
    Intel 865 chipset
    2 GB RAM
My Zen Nano Plus is currently running .0.03 firmware (latest).
On this desktop I am running the latest drivers (Creative Mass Storage Drivers .07.00.250)
When the player is plugged in, device manager shows no problems. Under Disk Dri'ves, Creative Zen Nano Plus USB Device is listed (and says the driver is from Microsoft, 7//0, version 5..2535.0). Under USB, USB Mass Storage Device is listed (and says the driver is from Microsoft, 7//0, version 5..2600.0).
I have tried manually updating these drivers to anything listed in the Creative folders upon installation, but it does not detect anything. When I check the drivers listed on the laptop that works with the player, these same driver details show up.
Any advice would be appreciated. I certainly would hate to only use my partner's laptop every time I want to update my music. I am also frustrated and puzzled as to why my player first worked on my desktop and now doesn't.Message Edited by lcvdw on 0-03-2006 2: AMMessage Edited by lcvdw on 0-03-2006 2:2 AM

With your player connected and View, Devices by Connection selected in Device Manager navigate through as follows:
Advanced Config and Power Interface (ACPI) PC
    ->Microsoft ACPI-Compliant System
    -->PCI Bus
You should then see a series of USB Host Controllers that you will have to click through in turn to find the one your player is connected to.
Underneath each controller should be a USB Hub, and then devices are listed beneath the hubs.
For my N200 I have USB Mass Storage Device, Creative MuVo N200 USB Device then Generic Volume.
Your entry should be similar but with Zen Nano Plus instead of N200.
While you're there, right-click on the entry for the hub attached to your player and select Properties. On the Power tab it will show how much current the port can supply and in the Attached Devices list it will show how much power the player needs. In my case the hub supplies 500mA and the player needs 00mA.

  • Zen Micro USB connection freez

System freezes whenever USB cable is plugged in.
Unit cannot be charged through USB either. When you plug the cable in, the unit lights up, Sometimes the title page "Creative copywrite" screen displays and then the screen is blank. Light will stay on for approx :45 secs.
When I use somone else's fully charged battery, it works until I plug in the USB cable and then it freezes.
We've tried other cables and other computers at the place where I bought it and it still does the same thing. As a result, the battery does not charge and the unit is unusable.
    Thank You

  • [Edit]Problem with Zen Micro when connected to PC-- cleared but another prob

    Hello,
My problem is that my Computer (winxp, sp2) does not identify my zen micro any longer. few days ago it worked perfectly but now it doesnt work.
my zen micro has the firmware with the MTP/plays for sure
I had installed the things from the cd, when I bought it, that was in the package and then new drivers and the new applications, so two programs. (I had two Zen Micro symbols on my desktop but I could only use the program with MTP)
    it worked fine.
a few weeks ago I had the same problem, but after a few connectings and disconnectings it worked again.
today this doesnt helped. I uninstalled everything what had to do with creative and then only installed new drivers and the newest applications (without the things from the cd).
    it still doesnt work.
when I click on the "Zen Micro Media Explorer (MTP)" on the desktop I can see that my zen micro is connected. When I go to my playlists and click on one, it seems that my playlist is "empty". but in the mp3-player there is the playlist!
when I click on my music folder, where all the music is I see the folders, but when I go into the folders, the folders are also "empty".
what happened? I changed the usb ports--> doesnt work...
what can I do in order to use my zen micro again on the pc. my zen micro works fine(playlists and songs work normally), but I have problems having connected it to my pc... I cannot copy songs and edit my playlists anymore. is there any way to edit the playlists via mp3-player without connecting to the pc?
I hope you have a helping answer for me.

ok guys, I almost solved the problem. I used the rescue mode, used clean up, and now the folders are not empty and I can copy songs into my Zen Micro.
But the playlists are "empty". Also when I want to create a new playlist it says that my mp3-player is not connected ?! But it is! I can copy files into it!
I also cannot synchronize it with WMP0.
I reinstalled software and it didnt help...
So what can I do? It is connected but I cannot edit my playlists.
Is there any way to edit the playlists via the mp3-player and not over the pc?Message Edited by expredator on 02-08-2005 :00 PM

    Hi Everyone,
after ios upgrade to ios6 i am not further able to use the iPhone 4s as music device - having usb connection problems ("not readable"). I am sure, that the upgrade ist the culprit; worked fine before. My car stereo is built in a Volvo XC 60; the device is connected via the standard usb cable by apple.
    Any Ideas?

  • N78 USB CONNECTIVITY PROBLEMS

    Hy guys,
Since i've bought my N78 i've been able to connect the phone via cable only one time. After that, every time i've tryed to connect my n78 via cable my computer doesn't recognize my Phone.
When I plug USB cable in one of the USB ports, Windows XP gives me back an error that says "USB devices not recognized - One or more devices connected to the computer has not worked correctly. Windows is not able to recognize it".
I've reinstalled PC suite thousands of times, but nothing changes.
My phone has the 12.046 software version. I know that there'e a newer version but how I can update it if my PC does not recognize the phone, and hence, PC suite is not able to connect to the phone.
    Many thanks for you help

you have another option in updating via Firmware Over The Air. you can do this by entering *#0000# in the standby screen and selecting Options > Check for updates. if an update is not available over NSU, then it may be on FOTA instead for your product code. this method of updating only takes about three to five minutes anyway. remember to do a hard reset (three-finger hard reset) after updating your phone to the new firmware.
so you can probably update from 12.046 to 20.149 or 21.002. USB connectivity problems are probably due to problems with the USB cable or the computer, i have had no problems at all with USB connectivity in all the time i've had my N78, even under 12.046 firmware.
let us know how it goes.
If you found this or someone's comments helpful or like what that person has to say, please give some Kudos to their post!

  • Zen Micro USB Problem - Have tried most solutions, none wor

Alright, I recently recieved a Zen Micro and I am having problems already. I charged the battery, installed the software, but the device could not be recognized in any programs. I am running Windows 98SE. The computer itself can read the device, because when I plug it into both my computer and my roommates computer it says that it has found a new device. But it says that there are no drivers installed, even when I install them.
One help page suggested I go into Recovery Mode, which I did, and to reset everything. Now I can't even reboot the firmware onto the device. When I turn on the Micro, it is still in Recovery Mode.
Aaaaaah, I'm going insane. I've searched and searched and tried so many different things. Any help is greatly appreciate.
    Kris

What you may have chosen in recovery mode is "reload OS" which will delete the firmware from the device, and cause the player to always restart in recovery mode.
The first problem to solve is the connection, so download the latest drivers from Creative (Creative Zen and Jukebox Driver Upgrade version .30.03). I guess there's a possiblity the player shipped with the v2 firmware, which will only work on Windows XP. It's going to be hard to check though as you erase the firmware that was on there, but it can still cause issue.
Try the driver download first, connect the player (while in recovery mode) and see if it's detected. If this doesn't work then check Device Manager and see if the player is listed and what problem there is with it.

  • ZEN Micro- Loose connection with USB port while charg

Hello everyone, I just bought my Zen Micro today. However, the USB port is quite loose, I am able to shake the USB connection to my player. Is this normal?

It's normal for the cable to be a bit loose when plugged in, yeah. I shouldn't worry about it unless the connection starts being faulty, which I don't think it will.
If any of the actual player itself looks wobbly, though, you probably ought to get a replacement.

i tried to update the firmware (because of the battery problem) on my pc (described above) - firmware update wasn?t possible (some flash program error). because of that i updated the Zen on my Notebook (XP, SP2).
the update worked out without any problems - i was able to restore/re-sync my songs with WMP on the notebook.
BUT: when i plugged the ZEN back on my PC - it wasn't detected anymore. from this point on i tried several driver installations, de-installed all creative software, installed it again - everything without any effect, i did read all recent post about alike issues and tried all given help-solutions -> without success.
SO what can i do now?

joemck wrote:The new firmware doesn't require ANY Creative software to be installed on the computer. In fact, the ond Creative drivers might interfere with the player being detected.
    I doubt it will interfere.

The drivers are provided by Windows Media Player 0, and located in the C:\WINDOWS\INF folder. Try pointing the device there to see if it picks up on the drivers. Also have a look here in the Zen FAQ at Nomadness.net for more advice on troubleshooting MTP connections.

  • Zen micro USB doesn't work with car ra

My zen micro can't connect to my car radio or my teac reciever chr-255. Neither can connect to the USB. It reads for a secund and then just give up. Has anyone got the same problem or even bette, has anyone solved it's?

I suspect the problem may be that your car stereo and Teac receiver are expecting a USB flash dri've type of player and not a PlaysForSure MTP (Media Transfer Protocol) player.
With USB flash dri'ves, the car stereo and the receiver are expecting what looks like a hard dri've which they can just browse and play files directly.
MTP players don't look like hard dri'ves, despite what you might have come to expect because of the Creative Media Explorer interface. CME is performing MTP operations and presenting a view that just looks like a hard dri've.
MTP is used, in part, to manage playlists and to enforce DRM (digital rights management) licenses.
I keep hoping that Microsoft, Creative, and PlaysForSure/MTP compatible players will come up with a standard for operating the player like an iPod so integration will be as seemless for non-iPod players as well.

  • Zen Micro / USB Firmware prob

Okay, this time I ran into a serious problem and I was quite close to get really mad at Creative... This is my third Zen Micro player and my waranty has run out and I thought, this time I am really gone for..
So, what happened is, I took my mp3 player with me. Nothing special? Oh well, when I switched it on, it showed the starting screen and switched off again. Tryed again and it showed me that the battery was empty. I plugged the player into the recharger but hours later, turning the player on resulted in the same..
Okay, I thought maybe there is some problem and formated everything. Now it told me, firmware error and started into recovery mode on its own. Good I guessed, reuploading the firmware would solve the problem.. (P4S 2..0)
It was not this simple.. I connected the player with the USB to the computer, but some minutes after connecting it, it told me "there is a problem with the USB device" and the player was not recognized any more. Starting the firmware update program resulted in "the player is not connected to your computer" even if it was..
A week later, today I solved the puzzle. It was a pure coincidence, after I tried the american version of the firmware update program which only told me "the battery needs to be charged before a update can be done" I tried the old PDE ..0 Firmware program! **bleep** and it worked!! It recognized the player and let me "downgrade" the firmware to ..0! I hope that helps anyone encountering the same problem, I really thought my player is now really gone mad..
