Zen Micro USB proble

Okay, I have this problem, and I have looked through all the topics, and found problems similar to mine, but the answers are just unclear to me. I guess you could say I am bad with technology, so I don't understand a lot of things.. So if you could help me, and maybe explain everything simply, I would greatly, GREATLY, appreciate it.
Okay, I just got the Zen Micro today, and I installed everything. When I connected the Zen to the USB cord however, a little pop up in the bottom right-hand corner of my screen appeared. It said, " A HI-SPEED USB device is plugged into a non-HI-SPEED USB hub."
I have no idea what this means, or HOW I can fix this.
ALSO.. When I try to download the playforsure software.. A little pop appears again, saying, " Easy Start CD requires Service Pack or later to install on Windows XP. "
Once again, what is the Service Pack and where do I get this?
Heh.. Thank you so much for at least reading this, I appreciate it.

. It sounds like you don't have a USB2 port on your computer. The Zen should still transfer files, just a lot slower. You can get a USB @ card installed for not too much money. It's quite simple to do.
2. Service Pack & 2 are updates for Windows XP. You can get them at Windows Update.

  • Zen micro USB doesn't work with car ra

My zen micro can't connect to my car radio or my teac reciever chr-255. Neither can connect to the USB. It reads for a secund and then just give up. Has anyone got the same problem or even bette, has anyone solved it's?

I suspect the problem may be that your car stereo and Teac receiver are expecting a USB flash dri've type of player and not a PlaysForSure MTP (Media Transfer Protocol) player.
With USB flash dri'ves, the car stereo and the receiver are expecting what looks like a hard dri've which they can just browse and play files directly.
MTP players don't look like hard dri'ves, despite what you might have come to expect because of the Creative Media Explorer interface. CME is performing MTP operations and presenting a view that just looks like a hard dri've.
MTP is used, in part, to manage playlists and to enforce DRM (digital rights management) licenses.
I keep hoping that Microsoft, Creative, and PlaysForSure/MTP compatible players will come up with a standard for operating the player like an iPod so integration will be as seemless for non-iPod players as well.

  • Zen micro photo proble

ok so i've had my zen micro photo since last summer, which means that the creative lab crew wont help me since my purchase is over a year old. lame. well i had a minor 2 ft drop with my buddy, and it wont work. when i turn it on, it freezes on the "creative" screen. then when i get to the option window so i can attempt to clean it out, it wont work, i would like to say that it freezes also on all the options, but i cant really tell. those are i guess minor problems. i dont really know, but it also will occassionally make this odd "skipping" noise when i take the battery out and replace it so it will restart. this kid at Best Buy said that it has a small rotating disk on the inside and that it could of cracked or isnt on properly. but this is a drag. and you would think that i could just plug my baby into the computer with the USB cord, but now it wont even respond to the computer, or the computer wont recognize it. if you have any advice that would be swell.

i asked that same question because my zen micro broke no responded, but i did get a microphoto and have not had any problems yet.

  • Zen Micro Firmware Probl

I recently brought a 6GB Zen Micro, and all was fine, it had setup, etc. all perfectly. after useing it for a couple of days, i looked up about the battery drain due the the 2 hour standby, and attempted to upgraded the firmware.
the update stopped midway through, so i left it to see what happened. nothing after a couple of hours, so i cancelled it.
now when i turn on the Zen Micro, it says "firmware problem", and remains in recovery mode.
i tried "reload via USB" option, but then the firmware installer wont start because "player is not connected" (even though it phyically is)
windows however, does make the noise when you connect a removable dri've, although media player says that no player is detected either.
after reading a couple of threads here nothing seemed to help me.
can i anyone help me? id be really gratful
    thanks.

does the micro still work alright? if it works, and the computer will register it, then you probably shouldn't bother upgrading the firmware. if it doesn't work, then i have no idea what to do, and you'll most likely have to contact customer support, and hopefully creative can somehow fix the problem, or help you fix the problem

  • *sigh* zen micro installation probl

from searches, i see that this is common. haven't found a good solution to it yet, though.
i just bought a zen micro 6GB for my girlfriend. (awww). i have XP, and installed everything on the disc except acrobat and the aol shortcut.
creative mediasource installs fine .... the zen micro explorer installs fine .... but when i plug the player to the computer, it ) doesn't charge and 2) isn't recognized.
there is a yellow question mark on its usb port when i search for it.
    what am i doing wrong?

Your chances of getting it to work when XP has a service pack is greatly increased. There are some who have got their player working on XP without a service pack, but on many systems a service pack is necessary. As far as I can tell it doesn't matter if you have SP or SP2 installed, there is no difference in success rates.

  • Zen Micro USB connection problem solv

I've been having a major problem getting my Zen Micro to work with my Dell Dimension 2400 which I understand has been causing many people the same problem - I had various posts about this on the old forums.
To recap, the problem was that XP would detect the device but WMP0 would say that there was no device attached (even though it was visible in device manager) - the Zen MTP would also not recognise it's presence even though I had the plays-for-sure firmware installed.
After lots of searching I finally found a solution and here it is:
Run REGEDIT and navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet, right click the key called ENUM and select "Permissions"
On my machine, I had a group called "Administrators" and "SYSTEM" but that's all. Click "Add" and add a new group called "Everyone" (just type it in and click "OK" to return).
Highlight the new "Everyone" group and in the lower box check the box marked "Read" - this will ensure that all users have read access to this registry hi've.
That's it - it worked for me and I'm delighted at being able to use the Zen properly now, hope this helps someone else.
Normal caveats apply, so please be careful if you make changes to the registry.

does the usb cable not charge aswell i think it does try taking the battery out and then pluggin the usb cable in . gill
I did that as well. Heres what happens. I take the battery out. I then plug in the USB cable and reinsert the battery. The title screen comes up and then goes to the next screen which just says "Creative" then locks up. The battery charging icon in the upper right corner does not flash to indicate that it is actually charging. I will leave it in this state for the next hour or so to see if it does anything for the battery. I suppose if I had a seperate battery charger unit, the unit would work normally. This is just a guess as I have not yet tried it.

  • Zen Micro: USB Recharge w/o software install

    Hi friends,
today I had the problem that I'd like to recharge my zen micro (.02.xx firmware) on an usb port of a computer, where the Creative software and drivers were not installed. It just didn't work. The Zen pretended to recharge, but after several hours the battery symbol still was empty, and when switching it on, it immediately complained about low battery and went off again. It was plugged into a powered hub, 500 mA per port. Any ideas whether the installation of the driver relates to the charging behaviour?
    regards
    Matthias

    Matthiasr,
If the drivers on the system are not installed, the player will probably not charge very quickly. The drivers for the Zen Micro help to define the power level for the USB port (the amount of USB power allocated to the Zen Micro) and without the driver installed (or the MTP firmware being used with an MTP compatible computer) the proper amount may not be allocated (leading to very long charge times). Another way around this would be to shut the system down and connect the player then, the USB ports should still receive power. Without the system running it should receive a full allocation that should charge it.

  • Zen Micro / USB Firmware prob

Okay, this time I ran into a serious problem and I was quite close to get really mad at Creative... This is my third Zen Micro player and my waranty has run out and I thought, this time I am really gone for..
So, what happened is, I took my mp3 player with me. Nothing special? Oh well, when I switched it on, it showed the starting screen and switched off again. Tryed again and it showed me that the battery was empty. I plugged the player into the recharger but hours later, turning the player on resulted in the same..
Okay, I thought maybe there is some problem and formated everything. Now it told me, firmware error and started into recovery mode on its own. Good I guessed, reuploading the firmware would solve the problem.. (P4S 2..0)
It was not this simple.. I connected the player with the USB to the computer, but some minutes after connecting it, it told me "there is a problem with the USB device" and the player was not recognized any more. Starting the firmware update program resulted in "the player is not connected to your computer" even if it was..
A week later, today I solved the puzzle. It was a pure coincidence, after I tried the american version of the firmware update program which only told me "the battery needs to be charged before a update can be done" I tried the old PDE ..0 Firmware program! **bleep** and it worked!! It recognized the player and let me "downgrade" the firmware to ..0! I hope that helps anyone encountering the same problem, I really thought my player is now really gone mad..

  • Anybody else with a tight Zen Micro USB por

    Hi,
just got a new Zen Micro, white.
The USB port is really tight, everytime I unplug the cord, I really have to jank it.
Anybody else have this problem ?
The reason I ask is that on my video cam, after a few of hard janks, my port broke down.
If this is an isolated unit problem, then I will RMA, but if it is the same for all units, then I'll stick.
Don't have another Zen Micro to try, but tried the plug on the Nomad, and this fits real nice.
    Thanks,

    Just got back from Fry's.
And confirmed that the port is also tight on another Zen Micro.
I guess the Micros are designed that way. I'll keep the unit.
    Thanks,

  • Créative zen micro usb 2

    Hello,
I've got an Creative zen micro 2.0, and vista on my computer.
The broblem is that when I plug my mp3 with the usb cable to the computer, it is not detected.
Thereafter I download both pilots provided on the site of creative, but the mp3 is not detected. Were the problem may come, and what can be done to repair this Thank you for your help.

my bad, but i should have mentioned that I have a zen touch 40 gig rather than a micro. So I guess no solution yet in my case. It just seems to me that Creative is paying much more attention to the Micro
(MTP support, new firmwares,...) than to their other players, including the touch. they have been talking about a firmware upgrade for the "touch" for months now, but still nothing. The only reason I did not purchase a micro was for its capacity. other than that, not only it gets more development and support attention, but the interface of the player is much better than the Touch, and it seems to work like a charm with WMP 0. Why couldn't they carry the 20Gig micro in North America....
Well enough nagging. Thanks for your reply. Now has anybody solved this slow transfer issue on Zen Touch? i got a feeling the answer is no...

  • HELP!! Zen Micro- USB Device Unknown Not Recognized!!! HEL

I cant get my zen micro connected. i just bought this zen used and it came with firmware v2.xx. i couldnt connect via usb so i tried reloading the os thinking it would return to factory loaded firmware, but it didnt and now i cant reinstall any firmware. elp!!

I just noticed this is a duplicate thread.
Despite this the two things I would recommend are:
. See if you can find another PC with XP and WMP0 to see if the player is detected. If it isn't then it sounds more like a problem with the player.
    2. Look here in the Zen FAQ at Nomadness.net for lots of advice on MTP connection problems.

  • Total Zen Micro USB fail

My creative zen micro has had it's usb fail 00 Percent.
I plug it in and nothing not even an unrecognized hardware dialog.
IT DOES SAY IT'S CHARGING ALL THOUGH.
Does any one have any idea for a fix

Have you tried it on another system yet, to see if it's recognised there? Is there any sign of the player there, in Device Manager?

  • Zen Micro "USB Device Not Recogniz

Hi, I can tell from the forum that this has been discussed quite extensi'vely already but I thought I would check that I have done everything possible.
Basically, I have today received my Zen Micro, installed the software and then connected it to my computer and all I get is USB device not recognized.
I have uninstalled and re-installed the software, tried a different USB cable and socket, formatted and cleaned up the player and still nothing.
There is no other computer for me to test it on. Any suggestions?

Either a new USB cable or more likely a new PCI USB2 card. Chances are the USB card is faulty, but I can't emphasise enough how testing on another PC will clear up where the fault lies. All you need is a PC to test, whether it be a friends, other family member etc.
Also don't forget to search on "communication problem" in the FAQ post, and follow the link that takes you to for lots of troubleshooting advice.

  • Zen Micro USB 2.0 Transfer Rate Prob

    Hi all!
I have searched through the posts here and havn't found a definiti've answer to my question. My question is:
Do you have to be running Creative Media Source in order to get the full USB 2.0 Transfer Rate capability from the Zen Micro?
I have noticed that I have had some pretty slow transfer rates with Windows Media Player 0 but the rate is lightning fast in Creative Media Source. Maybe I am missing some sort of setting.
On another note, I have noticed the sensitivity of the Touch Pad on my Zen Micro is kinda flakey. Sometimes it's very sensitve and sometimes parts of the pad are totally unresponsi've. Here is my observation on the matter. When you turn the player on, the power button snaps back into the other direction if you let go if it quickly. When this happens the button is on the edge of being locked/unlocked so it is sort of intermitantly shorting out. If i slide the button slightly to the left and then let go, the full functionality of the pad is then restored. I think maybe the spring that keeps the button from staying in the off position is too large a spring and needs to be shortened.

my bad, but i should have mentioned that I have a zen touch 40 gig rather than a micro. So I guess no solution yet in my case. It just seems to me that Creative is paying much more attention to the Micro

  • Zen micro USB snafu no firmw

I recently purchased a zen micro from ebay.
on arrival i found that the headphone jack was dodgy, i very carefully repaired the unit as per the instructions http://www.noboundrees.com/micro_fix/ I found one tab in particular that had broken away. following the repair the player functioned perfectly.
I purchased a creative wired remote for the micro, but when i tried it out, none of the control buttons funtioned. I have looked over these boards but could not find a satisfactory answer to this problem, but several similar enquiries.
I then tried to connect the micro to usb to tranfer files, but it did not light up and did not connect. Reading messages on this board I put the micro into recovery mode and cleaned up and tried to upgrade firmware. it erased the firmware first but the upgrade program could not see the zen either. i tried the micro on another PC , still it did not light up, and the pc claimed power surge on the usb port, the micro was not recognised.
I am now stuck with a micro that has no firmware and won't connect - any clues ?

update: I tried wiggling the usb connector whilst connected to pc, watching the micros screen I briely saw the 'communicating with pc' icon. I surmised that there must be a problem with the USB port inside the micro. I disassembled once again and this time re-soldered the usb housing to the pcb ( i had to remove some gum to get to one of the contacts ) on reassembly the micro is once again able to communicate via usb.
I then ran the firmware upgrade ..0 successfully and now have a working zen micro again.
I once again tried out my brand new fresh out the pack creative wired remote,
and still, none of the control buttons work. disappointing.
I'd really like to know of any possible solutions
& I hope that this hard won knowledge regarding usb connectivity failure can be of some use to someone
