Zen Micro v.2.20.05 Battery Draining Ba

I just upgraded my zen micro to firmware version 2.20.05 for the standby/battery drain problem.
The battery is draining faster than before the upgrade. I charged my player last night. This morning it was down to 2 bars. So I charged it again this morning. Left it "off" for about 3 hours, turned it on just now and it did not turn on immediately. So I removed the battery and inserted it and it turned on with a cold start, and it is down to bar!! I previously had firmware version 2..02.
Has anyone else have this problem?
How do I get it back to 2..02?

You'll probably want to post in this thread, and keep everything about this to the one thread.
Others are saying the drain is fixed... :smileysurprised:
As for going back to 2..02, I would either try the firmware update as it stands or use reload firmware (with the inherent risk that it might not work...). Does it matter though, as 2.20.05 shouldn't be any worse than 2..02 in theory... or maybe even just try using reload firmware with 2.20.05 in case something went wrong.

  • Zen Micro Quit Working...Battery Perhaps

    Hi,
I'm new to this board. I am hoping someone can help me troubleshoot my daughters Zen Micro. I purchased the player in Dec of 2005. Apparently it just went dead. There is no power to the unit at all. Could this be a battery issue? How can I determine what might be wrong? I have tore my house apart looking for the receipt but unfortunately I can't find the darn thing. Can anyone help me?
    Thanks

    Toxictuner,
What happen if you connect the player to the computer to charge? Does it shows any charging sign? The problem could be due to either battery or player and unless you have another fully charged spare battery to test out the player, it's pretty hard to determine whether it's the player or battery at fault.

  • Zen micro problem please help..it seems to have wiped the libra

I would really appreciate any help anyone could offer with this problem as I have no idea what to do and fear I may have lost all the music I've collected over the past few years as none of it is backed up on my computer...My zen was working fine yesterday but then all of a sudden it froze, I couldn't get anything on it to work so I removed the battery as I have done before, it went on to 'rebuilding library'?but after a few seconds said 'Select music to play from the library' and there was NOTHING on there. No songs, no artists, nothing. It still says the space is being used up and there is only a few MB left but it's saying there's no songs on it. I tried accessing them through the computer but that wouldn't work either. PLEASE does anyone have any suggestions?

Maybe you could try running Disk Clean Up from the Recovery Mode
Remove Zen Micro's back plate and battery
Hold the On switch to On (fully to the left) and hold it there as you replace the battery
Select Disk Clean Up and Yes from the menu, it's at the top of the list
It will take a moment or 2 to complete Disk Clean Up, allow it to finish
Once Disk Clean Up is complete, select Reboot at the bottom of the list
You should see a Re-building Library notice once it reboots and hopefully your music will be accessible again
Clean Up will re-set your Zen Micro to its factory default settings, so you will have to redo any special settings that you had
    Best of luck!
/with today's huge hard dri'ves, why don't people back their music up :|
I've got mine backed up on 2 different computers plus 2 external HDDs.

  • Power Off Battery Drain? What's Up With Th

Hmmm I think i have heard about this issue before, but I just never knew why. You see, yesterday in the morning, before i left for school, i charged by zen micro using the ac adapter. When I came home, it was done charging and i unplugged it and let it sit on my desk. At 0 PM, i turned it on and only used it for 5 minutes(with medium volume and backlight off). I didn't charge it that night, so when i came home today at 4 PM and turned on my Zen Micro, i had lost a battery guage, so i was then down to 2. Does anybody know how I am suppose to "conserve" my battery power when it's OFF? Also when it is off, I hear some noise when i put my headphones half way in, so know the battery is still in use. What's going on? Can anybody please help me?

    ps.
I have had a situation like this earlier but somehow it fixed it self.... I started off with flat batteries and somehow they charged up at least some . When I put it into the poweroutlet it dont display charging symbol now. But it flashes/glows like regular charging. Do anybody now if this glowing up and down means that it REALY charges.
For the the case the voltage is wrong 0/220 adapter i try to connect it to a regular PC /USB that not has Creative software installed. Again it lights up and glows/flash, does it realy charge?
. I read somewhere that you had to have Creative SW installed at PC to charge it from a PC. Right/wrong?
Greatful to any hint that can get my "perfect" Zen Micro work again.
I bought the Zen Micro in November at has not updated firmware (since it has been working ok until now, and I am realy stucked)

The hanging is quite a common problem, search the FAQ and the forum for other peoples posts and have a look at whats suggested to them.
it was introduced to the newist firmware that the player cna charge off any computer without drivers installed on that computer.so it all depends on your firmware version.
i think if its not showing the battery bars moving then its not charging, if it shows the plug its finished charging.not sure.

  • Zen Micro Connection "the device is not connect

When I connect my Zen Micro in my computer the Zen Micro Media Explorer says that "the device is not connected. Please connect your Zen Micro to the computer" My battery is full. • Zen Micro Loading Prob

I have a problem that just happened a week ago with my Zen Micro: When I remove the battery and put it back in, or when I recharge it, the MP3 player won't go past the "CREATIVE" loading screen to rebuild my music library. But sometimes, it loads randomly. Now the blue lights on the border don't even stay on anymore. Anyone have any idea about how I should go about fixing this?

I tried to install new firmware for my Zen Touch. My computer froze during the process of installing the firmware and now it's in recovery mode. It isn't recognized in both Creative Mediasource and the firmware update program. My computer recognizes it as a device, but I can't do anything with it. I figured that maybe Windows Media player was causing the problem, so I rolled back to version 0, still no luck.Message Edited by Raul78 on -5-200605:8 PM

  • My Zen Micro is not work

It won't turn on, the only way i can turn it on is by plugging in the charger, or the USB connection. Does that mean i should get a new one? or is it something that i can fix with very minimal cost?
    thanks

If it works when attached to USB or wall charger, you may have a battery problem.
How old is your Zen Micro?
I replaced the battery on my 2 year old one last month- it didn't cost much and was very easy to do.

  • Zen Micro 2.20.05 (Audible) firmware has "battery drain" f

Since nobody responded to my questions about whether or not the "Audible firmware" for the Zen Micro (2.20.05) also applied the long-awaited "battery drain" fix for MTP/Janus users, I decided to test it myself by upgrading the firmware (even though I'm not an Audible user), then shutting it down and waiting 4 hours. I'm happy to report that my Micro "cold-booted" from the Creative copyright screen, just like ..0. So those of us that need subscription support (or Audible support, for that matter) no longer have to deal with the "battery drain" problem!!!
Since Creative still hasn't posted this firmware here, I'm reposting the link to it on the Audible site (as posted in an earlier thread):
    http://download.audible.com/creative...le_2_20_05.zip
Download the file, then connect your Micro, open the file, and run the EXE file inside.
Audible users should also download and install the latest AudibleManager, as described in this thread (this step isn't necessary for non-Audible users):
    http://forums.creative.com/creativel...ssage.id=88333
Since I have a third-party charger, I'll test it with my Micro later on to see if ..0's "locked charging" feature works with 2.20.05 as well. (It won't work right now because my Micro is fully charged.) I may also test to make sure it doesn't have the "super-drain" problem .0.02 had.Message Edited by RBBrittain on 09-9-2005 07: AM

A big Thank You!!! for letting us know about the firmware upgrade for the Zen Micro. I just downloaded the firmware upgrade and upgraded my Audible Manager. No problems. It warned me that all my music would be wiped out, but it is all still there. Playing great. Wonder why Creative didn't announce it here before Audible did?
    luvmyrescuedogs
I think the warning is for upgrading from .x firmware in general. Changing between the .x and 2.x families wipes out the hard dri've; minor upgrades within each family don't. (I didn't lose any of my music while going from 2..02 to 2.20.05 either.)
It's hard to say why Audible beat Creative to the punch; my best guess is that Creative is applying EU volume limits to the European version before releasing it anywhere. (Audible's UK site doesn't list the Micro yet.)

  • Zen micro battery drain resolve

Just wondering if the battery drain problem on the zen micro has been resolved, I notice that there is a firmware update for this issue but would like feedback from any users out there ,, Thanks Lenny<IMG alt=ph34r.gif src="http://www.advancedmp3players.co.uk/forum/html/emoticons/ph34r.gif" border=0>

No, it hasn't been resolved, but as the other poster pointed out, it depends on useage patterns. If you charge every day you won't notice it. The only effect would be to reduce your playing time from 2 hours to hours by leaving it on standby for 24 hours.
But most people probably don't listen for hours straight so they wouldn't notice the missing hour before they put in on to charge again.
It's only a problem if you want to charge it up once and use it for like a week, turning it on and off at least once a day, without ever recharging all week. My useage pattern is I manage to charge it sometime every day. This is also how I use my cellphone, which has a Li-ion battery. I've had the cellphone battery for at least 2 years and it's still going strong.
I don't feel it hurts the battery that much to do frequent partial charges. It's supposed to be better for Li-ion batteries to charge this way than to completely drain and do a full charge.
So in my case I can easily li've with the battery the way it is but if Creative wants to fix it that will just make a great player even better.

  • Zen Micro battery drain: Is there ho

After reading through the boards the past couple of weeks, I'm starting to think I may be completely stuck, sadly. The Zen Micro features are great, but the battery drain is a problem for me. I've completely emptied the unit and fully charged it to do some testing. I confirmed that it will indeed (as mentioned by others) completely discharge itself after a while if left unattended a few days. With no music installed, default factory settings intact (save for firmware update), and the earbuds unplugged. It almost seems the only way to get 0-2 hrs out of the unit is to practically use it all in one sitting or with very brief periods of nonusage. I really don't want to have to constantly charge the unit every single night just to ensure I'm not bleeding away a bar on the power indicator by the time I pick it up again.
Is there anyone whose Micro does not suffer from this, perhaps a more recent one purchased directly from Creative itself? If so, that gives me some hope, but I'll still be calling customer service today to explore my options. If a firmware can fix this, great, but I don't want to have to wait months for it (but I do realize that these things take time and Creative wants to do its best). I'd rather wait for the bugs to be (hopefully) worked out in the Zen Micro Photo, but as it's basically the same architecture it may have the same issue. Other option would be to get a iRi'ver H0 (though not as good s/n ratio as the Zen), depending on its quirks. However, my 5-day refund period at PCMall for my Micro has definitely expired and I don't want to pay for a second player and be "stuck" with this one. Wonder if I can trade it in toward Zen Micro Photo credit. That or I'd have to recoup what I can of my costs on eBay or something. This would sadden me as this is otherwise an excellent player. Any input or advice is appreciated. Thanks gang.

That does make me wonder, though, if anyone has found significant differences using different batteries. And by significant, I mean a way reduced bleeding rate or a couple of hours time difference in playback. Perhaps I could even get Creative to do some testing along those lines on my unit. And, standard battery bleed aside, it'd be good to determine whether having headphones plugged in accelerates it or if there's no difference.

  • Battery Drains when Zen Micro is o

I've posted about my battery powers before.
I have a 6gb Zen Micro with the latest firmware, ..02 i think.
Ive noticed that the battery bar is decreased whenever I turn on the micro the next day. The battery never decreases while the micro is on. This may have to do with the stand by mode.
    Does anyone have any ideas?
Please dont say get latest firmware or turn off Backlight etc.

I'm not so sure about this though, but does the clock have anything to do with the battery life? Because I once tried to take out the battery before sleeping, it's still three bars, but the clock has been reverted back to it's original setting.
By the way, on my micro, the third bar tends to drain fast.
