Zen Micro V2 Firmware probl

Hello-
I've had the Zen Micro for a few days and I loved it, until I upgraded to the new firmware (2.002 - PlaysForSure functionality) which makes it auto sync w/ WMP 0. I was excited about the possibility so I went ahead and upgraded and I have had multiple problems with the new firmware release. I was wondering if anyone else had encountered these, or if they are bugs that need to be worked out.
First, after upgrading I synced with WMP 0 and certain songs would transfer to 00% then would hang and I would get an error message in WMP 0 saying: The I/O operation has been aborted because of either a thread exit or an application request. Error code: 800703E3. This never happened before. After removing the songs that would cause this problem, I no longer get this message, but the prob still must be attributed to some change that occurred with the upgrade since the faulty songs transferred perfectly before upgrading.
Second, and more importantly, is the fact that songs are not being filed correctly on the Micro since the new firmware has been installed. All songs that do not contain information in the "Album" field of the ID tag are unaccessible now. If you select "Artist" in the Micro, the only songs available are those that are categorized by album. With the prior firmware, songs not tagged w/ info in the album field would automatically go in a section called <Unknown>. Now, they are not accessible at all. If I have an artist w/ one song on the Micro and the song doesn't have info in the album field on the ID tag, the artist is available but after selecting it I come to a blank screen on the Micro. I have also attributed this to the new firmware b/c I've reinstalled the older one and the filing system is back to normal and is fully functional.
If anyone has encountered these probs or come up w/ solutions let me know. I'd love to be able to utilize the auto sync features of WMP 0 but for now I'll manually sync and keep things in order on the Micro's side of things w/ the older firmware version. Thanks for any help/input.
Take care,
Craig

Bear with me as I lay out the problems/sequence of events:
- Got excited over the MTP support and upgraded. My laptop stopped recognizing the Zen
- Creative support thought that my MP0 maybe hosed; so I rollback and install MP0 again. No resolution.
- Went into to 'rescue mode' and wiped the disk clean
- Installed the old firmware; my laptop recognized the Zen
I pressed on and connected my Zen to a desktop and upgraded the firmware to MTP support (v2.x)
- I was able to sync with MP0 but frequently experienced problems with 'hang' during sync after 00%
- I disconnected the unit and MP0 aborted the sync
- Reconnect and sync would hang at the exact same song. Further, I noticed the following:
- Songs would sync up very fast (noticed around 800KB/S)
- The problem song would experience startup problems and would hang after reaching 00%
- I deleted the 'problem' song (which plays fine in MP0) and 'sync' continued without problems
- Created a playlist in MP0 which synced OK; but the Playlist is missing in Zen!!
Summary:
I think Creative released the f/w too early.

I have Zen Micro with firmware .0.03 and I want to upgrade it, but I don't know which firmware I have to choose
May I choose firmware PlaysForSure 2.00.2e or firmware .02.05 ? Which is better? Or maybe I shouldn't upgrade my Zen and stay with .0.03 (it's stable)
And one more question: The PlaysForSure 2.00.2e firmware is stable and with no problems with it's?

And still how can I downgrade firmware?
. With the 2.xx.xx firmware it needs WMP 0 for the built in MTP, music management and DRM functionality that is enabled under the 2.xx.xx firmware. You also need XP because WMP0 is not supported under anything else.
    2. If you have a .xx.xx firmware version on the player and are under Windows 2000 or anything other than XP the unit CAN NOT be upgraded to a 2.xx.xx firmware. The update will fail or quit if you attempt to update to a 2.xx.xx firmware on anything but XP. If you already have a 2.xx.xx firmware on the player it will nolonger be recognized on a Win2000 or less system. It is only useable on a an XP system at that point.
    3. Once you have upgraded to the .02.05 firmware or the 2.xx.xx firmware you can only go back and forth between those two versions ( As long as you are on XP )

  • Zen Micro PlaysForSure firmware upgrade fatal error - RESOL

    First, sorry about poor english!
When i tried to upgrade my Zen Micro to the latest firmware i got the following message: "Creative Zen Micro PlaysForSure Firmware Upgrade: This application only supports Windows XP platform with at least Service Pack installed." The executable name was: ZenMicroP4S_PCFW_L6_2_2_02.exe and yes i have Windows XP SP2 installed on my computer. (and on the other three computers, where i got the exact error message.)Message Edited by kaszast on 0-26-2006 08:37 AM

    Dear Creative!
You screwed the upgrade program a bit, because it is works ONLY IN ENGLISH version on Windows XP. Shame! You are pushing me into the sea of warez...

  • Full revision list of the Zen Micro's firmware?

/ I've been digging up various firmwares, and I'll be honest and say that because I use an AC Adaptor that 2.2.02 and ..0 are not in my best interests. While I have no tested whether .02.05 retains charge over time I will probably do so tomorrow. I'd like to know the full history of the device so I know where to stand on this. I like to have the 4 hour standby, but not the 'shorter' charge span simply because all Creative did was drop the peak voltage from 4.9V (Li-Po can take up to 4.235V) to 4.2V. Granted the slope of the charging curve gets very flat at that level, but I do feel that it is best to inform geeks so they know what to expect.
    Version (Recovery Mode version)
    ..0 (0.0.65)
    2.2.02 (0.0.65)
.0.02 (0.0.63) (Pulled off due to complaints)
    .02.05 (0.0.58)
    2.00.2 (Cannot be installed)
I know I missed a few, but because the Zen Micro is past its life cycle I doubt there will be any customizations to the device.

    what problems?
Spending time on a support forum like this, that covers the full gamut of the customer base, you are going to see probably 80% of the posts from folks having problems ranging from minor pilot error to real hardware failure. The 20% with tips, kudos etc are all in the minority and will not be very visible.
Creative has probably sold over 5 million Micro's since inception. There are definitely going to be problems with that many units in the general population. And some of the problems have been real issues such as the battery drain and the issue of headphone jacks. The latest firmware v . has fixed the battery problem, and on the 3 Micros in our household we are all seeing over hours playback time, excellent battery hold time, good charging characteristics etc etc. The headphone jack issue seems to have become a lot less of a topic the past month or so. Noting that Creative sold probably about .5 million of the earliest Micros, and these were the units that seemed to have headphone jacks go bad, if at all, all the later products may have enough of a redesign that the jacks are OK. Certainly we are fine over here with the new revisions.
The pluses of the Micro are many, and the diminuti've size and excellent UI makes using this player a pleasure. Audio quality is excellent, and other than sheer output power is right up there with the JB3 (IMO the best ever mp3 player - irregardless of brand).
Hope this rambling note can help you with your decision.

You will need the playforsure firmware for vista to recognize the Micro. You will need to update the firmware from a machine with windows XP. Then vista will recognize the your Micro. If your player has the old firmware there is no way to?update it in Vista.?

  • Zen Micro 6 GB probl

Hey everyone. I bought my orange 6 GB zen micro October 2005. I had dropped it before and while I was still under the warranty, I sent it to Creative and had it repaired. It has been more than 8 months since I even dropped or tapped the zen wrong. Two days ago, I had dropped it and then everything went wrong. It seemed fine so I turned it off. I turned it back on and it went to the "Creatiev" screen and then it shuts off. I tried to reboot it. I turned it on, put the battery in and then scrolled to reboot but it would not let me press it. Though I could scroll to it. I have e-mailed Creative but I am no longer under the warranty. Does anyone else have this problem or know how to help? Should I just sell it and buy a new one and invest in a longer warranty? Thankyou. A response would help out a lot.

You could try updating the firmware to see if that hel
    ps.
But it does unfortunately sound like there is a (hardware) problem with the unit though.

  • Zen Micro 6gb installation probl

Ok, so Iv'e sent in a 5 gb zen micro twice now because of that headphone jack problem, and this time when they sent me a new one, they "upgraded" me to a 6gb. Well, I try to use this 6gb with the software i have installed from the last Micro I had, and my comp will not recognize it. So I try to user the cd that came with my old Micro, and it will not install right. When they sent me this 6gb, the only thing they sent me was the Micro and its battery, so I have no way to know if the cd that comes with a new 6gb is different form a 5gb cd, because if it is, then am I screwed?

A firmware basically is what makes an electronic device tick. It is the software responsible for every and all functions.
The Zen Micro has two versions of firmwares:
The original version works with Creative's own protocol and thus needs the installation of drivers for the system to recognize it. However it will function with all Windows versions while there also is unofficial support for Linux and MAcOS.
The second version functions using MTP, a protocol made by Microsoft and as such it is only supported by Microsoft's Windows Media Player 0 under OSs that support it (which basically only are WinXP and Vista...)
The simplest way to see which firmware you have is to look in the Micros' menu under System->Information. There you'll see firmware version.
If they both have version (..0 being the latest) then you'll need drivers for the both. As I already said, when I tried to update the drivers without uninstalling the old ones the drivers were installed but they wouldn't work.
First of all make sure the player(s) is(are) connected to the PC FIRST.
Mind you, in my case the latest drivers were already installed (I updated them but then they wouldn't work, remember?). Now here's the thing:
When I opened the drivers properties I saw that the driver was DISABLED. (under General, device usage)
Ok, I enabled it, nothing happened. Then I tried to update the drivers. Here's what I did:
I put the CD with the original drivers in the dri've and selected for windows to look for the best drivers. After some time they indeed appeared to have found a better match and then they started installing them. After the installation was complete the driver's version was the same as rhe one BEFORE the "update" (since I had already updated to the latest version). However the moment the drivers were updated the device was finally recognized by the system, not even a reboot was needed...
You could try doing that too, if that won't work then you could try DLing the LATEST drivers (along with the Zen Micro Explorer) and install them AFTER uninstalling the old ones and REBOOTING. Again, it is important having the player(s) connected BEFORE starting the installation.
If after all that you still can't connect it ask again!
    Cheers!Message Edited by Keyper7 on 02-9-200604:37 PM

  • Zen micro overheating/noise probl

After a year and a half of my zen micro working almost perfectly, I turned it on the other day and it started making all kinds of wierd noises as if I were tuning through the radio. I can still work my way through all the on-screen menus on my zen and the music still plays, yet the odd noise is way to overpowering to make the player usefull. It isn't the headphones b/c they work fine anywhere else. At the same time, the player also?overheats quickly?whenever I charge it, and i have no clue how to fix it. I have tried selecting Clean-up, Reboot, and Reload OS/ Firmware in recovery mode and yet nothing seems to fix it. Any suggestions?

I am having the same problem with my Zen Sleek Photo!?Though it's not the first time and earlier it has been solved by pushing the Reset-button, but now this doesn't help!?When I use the paper-clip to press it, I feel that the button is pressed, but the only thing happening is that the blue light on the on/off-button disappears for a few seconds, then it reappears. I have also tried holding Play/pause while pushing the Reset, also tried holding it in for like 30 seconds or so, but still no luck!?I have approximately 4 (5?) gigs of music loaded into it, and it would be one heck of a job to get it all in again.
I can also not gain contact with the player by connecting it to a computer - nothing happens ... No icon in my computer or anything!

  • Zen Micro having major proble

when i try turning my zen micro on its says the normal screen the creative all rights reseved and then it shows the screen with the large creative writing. then it stops there.it will sit there for hours at a time with just that creative screen...i have tryed the rescue mode doin the disc clean up and trying to format it. both didnt work. the screen would say formatting but 5 minutes later it would still be like that. i tryed runnin it out of all its battery and then charging it up again. same thing when the charge was complete it just stopped at the creative thing...anything else i can do?

Nah, i think that you should call support and have your player exchanged right away.
Before that you can try firmware upgrade offcourse if you can make connection betwen unit and your pc.

  • Zen Micro with booting proble

Hey i had this zen for 2 weeks so far and I've read the faqs and tried what it had to say.
My problem is that my zen micro freezes on the Creative logo. Now it worked before but in the past few days its been like this. I've did clean up reformated it and reloaded the OS/firmware. The only thing about the firmware is that it needed to boot up but like i said it freezes. It when i tried it a second time it said that the firmware is the same as the update so does anyone think i did it right? Suggestions in fixing my Zen micro is greatly appcreiated.

If you updated the firmware and then tried the same update again you will of course be told you have the same firmware. The only way to reload it is from rescue mode (using the reload firmware command).
Realistically though if you've updated the firmware and the player is freezing once or twice a day it sounds faulty. I would contact support.

  • Zen Micro needs firmware update for Vista, but what now as it fail

As I now use Vista (paid for by my work) I came to install my Zen Micro which wasn't recognised so I came to the website and discovered that you need version 2 of the firmware for it to be compatible with Vista. Having never had the need to upgrade before I was still on Version one so I downloaded it onto my other WinXP machine?which I've used my Zen on alot before to do the upgrade. Started the upgrade and all seemed to be well until a point a 3rd of the way through a box came up asking what I'd like to do with the device (like the one when a USB key inserted). Leaving the upgrade I returned hour later to see nothing has changed and the upgrade has failed.
I've tried all the options with recovery mode but it still just shows up as having version 0.0.65 and when inserted into a PC shows up as a?Creative Zen Micro?in device manage and has a 20MB disk partition for storage but when I try and run a firmware patch it says its not connected.
Looking round this forum this seems to be quite common upto now but with the release of Vista people are forced to take the 'risk' of running a firmware update that when it fails doesn't seem to be recoverable even in recovery mode. Please can you look into updating the firmware to find these devices that it can't see, for many years I've laughed at my friends with their crashing ipods that need charging everyday due to not being able to change the battery but it now seems the jokes on me.

    I used Adambonello's fix and it worked?http://forums.creative.com/creativel...mp=true#M80097

  • Creative Zen Micro(Original) Firmwar

Alright, well I've had this product for about 2-3 years now. It's worked until this point, I wanted to erase everything off of it. So I went into recovery mode. I accidently select reload firmware and now it's messed up. I've been looking around trying to download the firmware and putting it on there again. But, I open up the firmware upgrade. All it gives me "Your player is not connected, please connect your player". It is connected, just charging. I lost my cd. Don't know how to connect the player to my computer. Help?

    PhoniexBoy wrote:
The same thing happened to me, except my songs were starting to mess up and so went to the Creative thing for the Zen and reformatted my Zen micro photo 8 g. Well after that the zen froze up at the Creative logo, so i tried formatting again from the recovery menu, and it didnt do anything, after that I realized i hadnt updated my firmware since i got in in like 2006, and that may be the problem. If you know of anything to help, your kindness would be gratefully appreciated.
Does your computer recognize the player? Have you got it to go beyond the Creative screen. Did you do cleanup >reboot after formatting player. If not then do that. Don't even think about firmware update until the computer will recognize it. Firmware update for the player can ONLY be done a computer running Xp with WMP0. Your hardri've may be failing so firmware update won't help that. If the player won't finish the scan disk & rebuilding library after the cleanup >reboot then it's a clear sign of failing or failed hardri've.

  • Zen Micro Photo Firmware 'Update Fail

Ive tried several things, several computers. The Zen will only boot to the firmware screen if not docked. If Docked the Zen can update but at the end, it will always say, 'Update Failed!'?I was wondering if this is the Motherboard, or the Hard-dri've. I dont hear any clicks or sounds from the hard dri've.

This all started a few days ago, the Zen was playing a nice track and then it turned off, I turned it back on thinking wtf. It came on, played for about sec then said, 'Overheating Shutting Down'?so I tried a few more times and it said the same thing, it was rather Cold outside, wierd. I went home, let it stay infront of a fan for a few hours and thats when it wouldnt even boot after that. Then I couldnt recharge the battery for some odd reason, and the update didnt want to install, So i had my old BROKEN ZEN MICRO which has the same EXACT PROBLEM, anyways, I took that battery and used it cause it charged unlike the ZEN MICRO PHOTO Battery. After that, then I installed the update, but then it gave me that problem of Update failed, so here i am now...

  • HELP! Zen Micro 6GB Firmware prob

My first problem is that my Zen Micro has a firmware problem. After it shows the "Firmware Problem" message it goes to the recovery menu. I've tried "Clean Up" and "Format All" but I am still unable to use my Zen Micro. The second problem is that the firmware upgrading software won't recognize the Zen Micro. I can still sync music to my Zen with Windows Media Player but the program used to update the firmware will not recognize it. I'm running Microsoft Windows XP SP 2 on a Toshiba Satellite M40X. I've also tried updating the firmware on another desktop computer running Microsoft Windows XP SP 2 but it still will not recognize the Zen Micro. I've tried installing drivers yet the program still won't recognize my Zen Micro. Is there any other way to get the firmware onto my Zen Micro or am I out of luck?

Bump. I sent an e-mail to Creative and they were of no help. They told me to send it in and that I would have to pay for it. Is there any other way to install the firmware, or possibly better drivers that I could download other than the ones from Creative's website.
