Zen Micro Volume Sti

I've been using a new Zen Micro for about two months with no problems. In the last week, whenever I turn it on after it has been shut off for a long period of time (more than an hour) the volume bar shows on the screen and starts to increase up to the highest volume level (its like it is stuck on high volume). You can't lower the volume and the only way to fix it is to pop the battery out and reset the device. Once you do this, it works fine.
I've also noticed the same problem if it has been running in the locked position for a long period of time.
I'm on Firmware V 2.00.2 - has anyone else experienced this problem and does anyone have any ideas on whether this is a software or a hardware problem? I had to return my first Micro because of the headphone problem, so I'm not looking forward to doing another return unless I have to.

To see what firmware you are running, just select System from the Menu, then choose Information. This will show you your firmware version, how much disk space you have left on the device, etc.

  • Zen Micro - Volume Limitat

    Hey Guys!
As I already posted my message about this problem on the older forum, I just want to ask here again for help:
My Zen Micro is like any other European Zen Micro player volume limited, because of some law, which should prevent ear damages etc.. I have to listen to mp3s louder than 20 (in the volume control) to hear in an adequate way my music. Some of you told me to download the international firmware from www.nomadworld.com , but that does not work :
    a) the only available version to download is exactly the same, I already installed on my Zen and even after overriding the installed version with the one found on the site, there won't be any changes to the volume limitation!
    b) there are no other special "international" or other firmwares available to download, so I could not have done anything wrong.
Do you guys have any hints or even links (with files), that can help me getting over this problem?
It is also important for the battery, because it discharges much faster! (which is also a problem, because I have a max. battery lifetime of 2 hours of listening.. that is soooooo annoying!!

fearthis: Did you use the Reload Firmware function to apply it's It might be that the Micro doesn't have the volume limtation, I've not seen anyone confirming it yet.
masbed: Just download the International firmware from Nomadworld.com downloads and use the Reload OS function (described here) to install it.Message Edited by SSR on 02-04-2005 06:09 PM

  • Zen Micro Transfer Sti

    Hi Everyone,
Can anyone help me with a really frustrating problem I am having with transfering from my notebook to my Micro?
I peridoically get a CD that I can partly rip to my Micro then every now and then (usually on exactly the same track) the rip will freeze at xyz% which is really frustrating because I listen to classical music and it often breaks a piece up!
Also, does anyone know how to get MS Media player to recognize my Zen Micros because I prefer Media Player to the zen software (sorry Creative but thats how I feel)

  • Zen Micro Volume Scale leaves unwanted mark on Scr

    Hi Creative types,
I've had my micro for 4 days now and so far so good. I had the initial USB sync issue but using WM0 seems to prevent this totally.
One issue I'm not sure about though is the volume level indicator, when I adjust the volume the indicator pops up on the screen as expected. On the right hand side of it there is a nice "shadow" box which makes it look kind of 3D. However what I see is that this "shadow" line faintly continues vertically up to the top and down to the bottom of the screen, I can also see other faint vertical lines coming from the volume pop up.
So does any one elses do this or is it a sign theres something bust in there and I should send it back ?
I don't think its the LCD as no other menu option causes it its just the volume pop up ?
Any feed back would be appreciated, as you know how it is, when you've purchased a new piece of kit and are'nt sure if its busted or if they all do it.
    Thanks J

    Welcome to the forums Lambden
I think what you're seeing is completely normal and you shouldn't worry. I remember the first time I adjusted my micro's volume I saw the same thing and thought, what the heck!? I later looked at a picture someone posted of their micro with the volume box on and you could see the same "shadow". Not sure what causes it but I wouldn't be concerned.

  • Zen Micro: changing volume through programmi

Does anyone know a way to change the volume of a Zen Micro other than using the scroll bar? Can it be done through Creative Media Explorer or some other computer program rather than through the Zen itself? As I said in a previous post, I'm having scroll bar problems, and if I can just force the volume to change without using the scroll bar, at least I'll be able to play music.

Alas, I am no longer under warranty, and at the moment am not willing to pay $25 plus whatever else the repair costs to get my Micro working again. I did, however, just buy a $2 wired remote control, which solves the immediate problem of not being able to hear anything at all from my player. (Raising the individual volume levels of songs hardly helps when the player itself is effecti'vely on mute.) Saving playlists, etc, is still impossible, but at least I have my music for the moment.

  • Zen V Plus volume is lower compared to Zen Micro/Phot

Hey, well I just exchanged my Zen Micro Photo for a Zen V Plus today because they were out of stock with Micro's. Anyway, I've tried putting the Zen V Plus to full volume and it doesn't even seem loud at all (which is bad). The volume restricter is off and so is the smart volume which both make it less louder if they're on. The Zen V Plus at volume level 25 sounds like Zen Micro Photo volume level 22/23. Has anyone else converted from Zen Micro Photo to Zen V Plus, or vice versa? I just want to know if it's just me noticing the difference, but I highly doubt it is.

With the very strong possibilty of permanent hearing loss and the risk of Class Action lawsuits from consumers that have lost their hearing, it's going to be harder and harder to find a company that releases really loud players.
I've got tinnitus and it never stops- I can hear the buzzing/ringing all the time, no matter what I'm doing. I've lost a lot of hearing response in the vocal ranges and it makes it nearly impossible to understand some people's voices.

  • Need accessories for Zen Micro-can anyone he

    Hello Everyone,
I purchased ny zen micro a couple of months ago and already i am keen to get accessories. Does anyone know where to get accessories (from a proper shop like John Lewis etc.). If you do please send a reply as soon as possible
    Thank you

In Japan, the remote comes with the Zen Micro (still doesn't justify the $80 dollar price increase!!). I tried using the remote and found it to be a waste. I wouldn't bother buying it. When I am wearing a jacket I put the Micro in my jacket breast or side pocket. When I am not wearing a jacket, I use the case and belt clip.
Unless you make massi'vely long playlists and would thus keep the Micro in your bag for LONG periods of time, the remote is essentially useless. It only has volume, puase, play, and next track controls, and no display of course.
Just my thoughts on the remote. The clip sucks on the remote too. It's too small to clip to the strap on my bag securely.

  • Pick up metal objects with zen micro headphones? battery life with firmware 1.02

    hey all
just purchased my zen micro couple days ago.
the package we got here in downunder is satifying. included were the wired remote and also the stand/case with belt clip. these were the only reasons that made me choose this over the ipod mini.
this has not occurred to me until tonight, but the headphones seems to act as magnets and were stuck to each other as the phones were dangling
i never noticed this happening with other phones
also the battery life of my zen was horrendous. its lasted 5 hrs with eq and smart volume on. the zen was on hold the whole time as the actions were controlled by the wired remote.
this was with the firmware that was shipped with the player .0.03 i believe
have just updated the firmware now, and will be testing the battery life to see if the problem is rectified.
if not, then an exhange for an ipod is inevitable.

Yep, SV is a battery killer, around a 50% drop in life has been meaured and the effect is known to be pretty negligible.
And as others have said, them headphones have magnets in, like pretty much any speaker

  • Headphone jack problem with Zen Micro

    Hi.
I bought my zen micro on April 4 and everything was fine until a few weeks ago
when I got the headphone jack problem. When I touch the plug that is connected
with the player, it makes a weird noise and the volume decreases and goes back to normal
    and it keeps doing it.
Can I get a/s for no charge since it's a yr hardware warranty?
P.S.) I can see there are some ppl who are getting upset by this same problem here.

  • Zen Micro Recording with built-in microph

    Hi,
is there any way i can adjust the recording volume of the microphone built in the zen micro?
and is there any way i can record using my own microphone instead of the built-in one?
    thanks..

The answer to both those questions is no. You get what you get with the built in mic.

  • Zen Micro - Loose Headphone Connect

I bought a Zen Micro last december and I love it.
Unfortunately it has recently developed a problem. It seems that there is a problem with the headphone socket as I keep losing sound volume/stereo quality etc as if the headphones are not seated correctly in the socket. On investigation, if I move the headphone socket only very slightly (as happens in normal use) I lose the sound quality. A quick waggle of the cable and the sound usually restores only to go again later. As you can imaging this is extremely annoying.
To me this is a hardware problem with the socket itself and will only be rectified by me sending the player back under warranty to be fixed.
Has anyone else experienced this problem and found any other solution other than sending the player back under warranty?

Yep, quite a few people have had this (just type "headphone socket" into search to see).
Depending on where you are (you don't give any location information in your profile) you will either be under the parts only (e.g. USA) or full warranty (e.g. in Europe). Contact Creative Support to return your player for a replacement.

It has been reported by some of our customers that they have experienced reduced battery life after charging their Zen Micro. Our product development team has researched these reports and determined that the users may have experienced this after they plugged their Zen Micro into the AC adapter that was already inserted into a wall socket with the AC power on.
While this is not the conventional way to plug in a player for charging, we wanted to ensure that our customers did not experience this problem, so we have developed a solution to address this, which simply involves upgrading the Zen Micro's firmware.
If you need assistance in doing this, please contact our customer support team and they will be happy to assist you.
Important: If you are upgrading from PlaysForSure firmware, be sure to back up all the audio and data files on your Zen Micro before installing this firmware update as all content will be lost when you install the new firmware. • Trouble playing/pausing with Zen Micro touch

I am having a fairly peculiar (and frustating) issue with my new Zen Micro's touchpad. For me, the Play "button" (area) works only sporatically. Here's the symptoms: I can reliably press the Play/Pause button with my thumb, but I can't reliably press play with the tip of my finger. I NEED to be able to do this since I set the player on my desk at work and will need to quickly hit the Pause button if something comes up (read: if I actually have to work).
I have the latest firmware, so that isn't a solution for me and I have tried playing with different sensitivity settings. After playing around quite a bit, I have determined that the button requires something wide pressing down on it to work. The narrow tip of my finger doesn't work, but the (wider) side of my thumb or even 2 finger tips work great.
Has anyone experienced something similar to this? Is my player functioning normally? Any help is much appreciated.

i have the same problem. back, forward and volume control works fine. sometime much too good
but play, back and menu is only reacting sometimes for me.
and thats the second player i have. had the same prob with the first and got a new one from the vendor.
someone here could help out a little plz? can you all use the play button with the tip of your finger ?Message Edited by washi on 02-23-2005 0:47 AM
