Zen Micro, Windows Media 10 converts MP3 to WMA when copyi

My music files stored on the computer are MP3 encoded at 92kbs. When I copy a track to my Micro, an automatic conversion to WMA format takes place before the track is copied over. Now, in an ideal world I wouldn't mind a conversion to MP3 at 60kbs to save a little space on the Micro, but I would like to know how to control the conversion or not of file formats with Windows media. The Micro is 5gb and has firmware version 2.2.02.

Many thanks. My confusion arose from assuming that WM0 would convert to another MP3 format at 60kbs, but of course this is a WMA file. I presume that if I wish to store my music at a high sampling rate on the computer, but require it to be converted down a couple of notches to transfer to my Micro, this would have to be a seperate process?

• Hoping for detailed help w/ Podcast/Zen Micro/ Windows Media 10.

Can someone please outline what steps are necessary for someone with a 5gig Zen Micro & Windows Media 0 to download (specifically) and eventually listen to podcasts on my Zen Micro.
I'm hoping for something like; You need these 3 things.....first you....second you....finally.... (hopefully there are only that many steps!)
If it is already on the board, just a cut and paste response is great....or a link to the conversation.
Thanks very much for your 'non technical'/ 'dummies' style explanation.
Cheers,

Windows Media Player 0 help files are very well done, and perhaps your answer is in there...
But as for folder creation: WMP0 arranges your music as Artist\Album\Song.mp3, doesn't matter how you have it structured on your computer, WMP0 will arrange it like that. If you use Windows Explorer then it will keep the same arrangement as your computer, like you already know.
Despite this arrangement, if you still want WMP0 to make folders on your player then:
Connect the Micro
Open up WMP0
Click on Tools-> Options
Click on Devices tab
Select your player and click Properties
Under the Synchronization tab check the box for Create folder hierarchy on device
As for playlist creation, WMP0 will only transfer playlists using the Auto-sync options. If you select which songs to transfer over then it will not transfer that playlist, just the songs inside it. To make a playlist you will have to use Zen Media Explorer, or whatever program that supports it like Media Source, or even make them manually on the player itself.

• Creative Zen Micro Photo Media Explo

I've lost the Cd that came with my Zen Micro Photo and i can't seem to find any places where I can download zen micro media explorer.
I tried the Zen Micro's media explorer but that doesn't work.
Can anyone help me please?

Hmmm, are you opening it up after you plug in the Zen?

• Converting MP3 to WMA

I have a new phone and it only plays WMA audio files. I cannot seem to find a converter that will convert MP3 to WMA. It seems like all the converters I find for macs do every other conversion but that one.

Hi Makemusic,
The only app out there for Windows media conversion so far as I know are the products offered by Flip4Mac. Specifically, the product you would be most likely interested in is the WMV Studio. It should easily accomplish your exporting needs. However, it comes with a $50 price tag. Good Luck!

• QT Pro converts mp3 to wma?

I have a new cell phone that (Verizon RAZR) that only plays WMA music files. I've read that you can convert mp3 files to wma using QT Pro. Is that true? If so, how do I do it?
If not, can anyone tell me a way to convert mp3s to wma files? I've heard that Flip4Mac can do this, but I'm not willing to pay $50 for the privilege.

You might want to save up for Flip4mac. Or google for some shareware wma converter or exporter. Flip4mac cheapest paid version exports from Windows Media to QT. The more expensive two add exporting to Windows media. YOu need to export to WMA.

• Zen Micro/Windows ME Fix

Okay. Being a computer novice and an absolute beginner with MP3 players and such, it took me a LOT of research on the Creative site and message boards to find the solution to the Windows ME/Zen Micro compatability problem.. But, for all of you still having trouble, here it is..
First off, if you purchase a new Zen Micro, it WILL NOT work out of the box with Windows ME But there is hope.. You'll just need to enlist the help of a friend who's running a system on Windows XP..
The problem is that the new version of Zen Micro Firmware 2.X does not work with ME but the older version, ..0 DOES. So the solution is to:
. Install Zen Micro sofware on your friend's XP machine..
2. Connect you Zen Micro to their computer.
3. DOWNLOAD the Zen Mirco .X Firmware from the Creative website. http://us.creative.com/support/downl...e=Windows+98SE
4. Install Firmware on you Zen Micro by running the application that you just downloaded.
5. REINSTALL Zen Micro sofware on your Windows ME machine..
You should be done at this point. As soon as I completed all of these steps, my computer recongnised my Zen Micro and I was able to transfer music files to it..
Good luck to you all..

quote--The Zen Micro's which ship with a v2 firmware should include an "Easy CD", this CD includes the required drivers which Windows ME needs to recognize the player. However you are limited to only using Windows Media Player 9 to transfer your songs. If you have a v firmware then you can use Media Source to transfer the songs.
Still its good advice to find a Windows XP machine and do the firmware change. --/quote??I?couldn't get it to work with the "Easy CD" and Media Player 9 either..Message Edited by GTRMAN on 02-4-2006:52 AM

• Zen micro..media explorer prob

I downloaded the latest firmware : Creative Zen Micro PlaysForSure Firmware update 2.2.02 for my zenmicro.. it is working fine but now, the zen micro media explorer does not recognise the mp3 player despite it being plugged in..even if the player is being charged through the computer's usb port.. is anyone else experiencing the same thing? any ways to solve this?..thanks in advance..=]

The message comes from Windows when a USB 2.0 device is conencted to a .0/. USB port.
The device itself is 2.0 but is also backwards compatible with ., not with .0 however.
If you can otherwise use it then your port is ., if it don't work at all then you have .0.
As for MediaSource I would suggest uninstalling it completely, rebooting and clean installing directly the latest version.
However I THINK I read somewhere that MediaSource NEEDS for the device to be connected through a 2.0 port in order to correctly stream audio or sth so this may be why you can't use it...
Eitherway I would suggest buying a USB 2.0 PCI expansion card, it doesn't cost much (about 0-5$).
Hope that helped.

• Creative Zen Micro: Windows process keeps player b

Hi,
Usually, after synchronizing my player through Windows MP, my Zen Micro goes back to the state where you can select and play songs (so not the state with the two arrows). However, lately, after shutting down WMP it stays in the state with two arrows. Only when I shut down my machine, it returns to the original state, leading me to believe some process must keep the Zen from returing to the operational state.
Has anyone else had this problem? Any solutions?
I'm using FW 2..2 on a WinXP machine.
Many thanks in advance.

Yep, that's it basically. I think it's an inherent "problem" (feature?) with MTP. Just make sure no applications are using the player, but that should be obvious.
Its actually the programs fault and its normally Microsoft made ones. It doesnt close off the session with the device so thats why it still keeps it busy.
Real Player does close off the session everytime, and so does MusicMatch, as alternati've programs.
The MTP Porting Kit[/url]. Includes an MTP Monitor utility to see exactly what goes on behind the scenes of every data transaction that your computer and your PlaysForSure device does. Its interesting and I found that Windows Explorer/My Computer and Windows Media Player 0 are the only programs which do not end the session when they are closed.

• Zen micro windows vista dri

my zen is up-to-date firmware 2.2.02?connect it to windows vista 32 bits and windows says it can not find driver?why does this appens since creative says that zen micro is vista compatible.. thanks

electric_abacus,
Unfortunately there is little I can advise in that case, you will need to update to that firmware from an XP machine. Could you do this on a friend or relati've's PC? Or a PC in work/college/school?
rhonjay,
If you select your product in the list, and choose XP as your Operating System, it'll show you the available files. The latest PlaysForSure / MTP-compatible firmware update for the Zen Micro is filename ZenMicroP4S_PCFW_L6_2_2_02.exe
You can enter that filename on the Downloads page search, and it'll bring you right to it.

• Zen Micro Windows

Does anyone know if Zen Micro works with Windows 98?

I was just reading on the net that Windows 98SE gives you DVD-ROM support. Lets you watch movies, compared to just Windows 98 which gives you CD-ROM support.
I have a DVD-ROM dri've, so I must have 98SE.
Anyone know how I check if i have 98SE?

• ZEN MICRO, WINDOWS XP SE VS. WINDOWS XP PROFESIO

My Zen Micro works perfectly on my home computer with windows xp se, but at work the computers have XP pro, when I plug in the USB immediately recognizes the device but when I open the device manager it says the device is not conected.
The Zen Micro also works good with my Xbox 360, I'll appreciate any help you can provide on this issue, I really need to use the micro as a hard dri've since I have to bring work home.
Thank you. :smileyvery-happy:

Y'know, if all you need is to take your work home then you don't even need for the MTP to work.
Just use the UMS mode in your player's Extras menu.
Finally, as far as I know there are no WinXP SE, there are WinXP Home and Pro (where the only complains you'll EVER hear will be for the Home side) and there are WinXP SP / SP2 (which would definitely help...).
The way I see it there must me a hotfix that needs to be installed, thus, installing the files DM suggests HERE would help immensely I would think.
That, or you could simply try using windows update for all critical and software components...
Tell us how it goes.
CheerS!

I agree, Vista is a disappointing product, considering the time MicroSoft had to work on it. :|
I hope that they'll release a Service Pack soon to address their lack of legacy device support.
