Zen Micro Wish List: Clock Ra

I mentioned this several months ago and now see others coming out with this. I'd love to be able to hook up my Zen Micro to a clock radio so I can wake up to my music or to an alarm, and be able to see what time it is any time of the night. Here's one of many for the iPod. Come on, Creative.....

Or just get a US$0 clock radio
You can still use the Micro as an alarm clock. Just hook it up to speakers. You'll have to get out of bed though, or move at least, to check the time.

  • My Zen Micro Wish l

I?ve had my Micro for a month now, and while I love it, I have a few things I would like to see improved.
Note: I am running the Beta 2..02 firmware, and use Napster-to-go and auto-sync to keep the player filled.
    - Add ?Play Mode? to the popup menu. I use the DJ on the main menu to ?Random Play All?, but then when I want to just play an album I have to go to the main menu, pick play mode, switch to normal, browse to the Library, then Artists, and so on to find the album, which is lots of clicks. Being able to switch play modes from the popup would be more convenient.
2 Play Next? on Popup. Similar to ?Add to Selected?, but would insert the selected track or album immediately following the current track, while keeping the rest of the selected items as is.
3 ? Gaps between WMA Janus tracks. Usually, when playing track to track, it jumps quickly between songs. But if you use the next button, it takes many seconds before it updates the screen, and starts playing the song. If you cannot reduce the time required to start the song, can you get the screen to advance right away? That way we could quickly see what?s next, and then jump ahead again if it is not what we want.
4 ? Smart Volume improvement. Smart Volume seems to have minimal impact on the track loudness. Even with it on I still have to bump the volume up and down between different tracks, and usually it is worse when switching between WMA and MP3.
Things I do like (so don?t take them away)
Customizable Main Menu ? SO useful!

Perhaps you could add these here.

  • Zen Micro Clock is

Hello, I have noticed that there are various posts about problems with the clock in different players, but my issue seems rather odd. My Zen Micro is always 5 hours ahead of the correct time, no matter what I do. If I set the time to the correct time, it will be fi've hours ahead again after it revi'ves from deep sleep mode. I am currently using the latest firmware. I have tried resetting the player, reformatting, and I even left the battery out for one night after I erased to firmware to make sure everything was cleared, but the problem is still there. The computer that it syncs to has the correct time. What is going on?Message Edited by Choppy on 0-9-200704:2 PM

  • Zen micro clock is always wr

The clock on my brother's Zen Micro is always wrong.
I can set it back to the correct time but if I check later it's way off again.

I'm not sure; but then you apparently use .x firmware. The latest ZMME for PlaysForSure/MTP devices (2.x firmware), which I use, is .00.2; it doesn't have one. However, since MTP requires a "secure clock" for use with "to go" subscription services, it's more likely to auto-sync the clock.
^My Zen Micro uses firmware ver. ..
I'm on Win 98 and don't use subscription services.
The Zen's clock seems to be reasonably accurate. I was just wondering where the option for synching clocks to your PC in Zen Micro Media Explorer went.

  • My Zen Micro firmware wish li

Hey folks. Sorry if this has been posted somewhere already. Just wanted to see everyone' thoughts on what they'd like to see implemented in the next firmware release of the Zen Micro. I just got my new Zen Micro the other day. I am I am switching from my Iri'ver H20. I am very impressed with this little player and feel like I made a good investment. So, with this being my 3rd mp3 player, I would like to suggest the following be added to the next firmware update. To the folks over at Creative, thanks for listening, unlike the Iri'ver people.
    # Where is the bass boost? I listen to a lot of RnB and rap music. The EQ does a fine job, but a bass boost would be preferable. My Iri'ver had this feature and it sounded great. Through in BBE while you're at it.
#2 I have all my music organized by genre and title. It would be nice to be able to browse my my collection simply by genre/title, rather than genre/artist/title. I understand that other users have different preferences, so why not make the music browsing system customizable?
#3 I have a problem with my vertical touch pad. When I try to scroll though all of my tracks by pressing and holding down the top or bottom of he touch pad, it doesn't work half the time. This should be fixed where you could scroll down by simply pressing and holding the vertical touch pad anywhere below he mid-section and vice versa for scrolling up.
#4 Crashing is a major problem with this player. This bug needs to be hunted down and fixed. The touch pad is too sensiti've (And no, I don't like leaving the hold switch "on" all of the time because I like to access a button, like song skip or volume immediately without having to adjust the hold switch first. ) and when accidently pressed, and too many thinggs are pressed at the same time, the player crashes. Maybe a rubber case that makes accidental touch of the touch pad less likely (like the ipod rubber cases) would be useful.
#5 Having the player display the time at the top of the screen next to "now playing" in the Now Playing screen would be neat. The player knows the time. Why shouldn't we? Especially when we get so caught up in the player, we forget the time and is late for that staff meeting Smile
#6 A queue function for setting a specific song to play next when listening to your entire library at random is a good idea. My Iri'ver had this function. It lacked the On the Go playlist thingy, which I prefer, but queuing a song to play next would be niftier than creating a specific list to accomplish the task.
#7 Ok, I'll jump on the battery bandwagon too. Please fix the battery drain issue.
#8 In the now playing screen, between the elapsed time and remaing time, include file type (wma, mp3, wav) and the bitrate info.
#9 While I'm talking about file types, and even though I don't have a single Ogg file, support for this format would be a good idea. while AAC is only available in Ipods (I think) Ogg is being included in a wide range of players and is seemingly the next big thing. I might decide to ogg some of my music one day.
#0 Please give this player the ability to record in mp3 format. I know it may be harder on the players processor, but the file types would be smaller and allow for more recording and recording time.
    # I know this is a problem for mp3's but gapless playbacl and a crossfade feature for WMA's would be a good idea. I would love this when I listening to genre music, like dance. That would truly make this player remarkable. I think i would prefer this feature more than anything else. Wink
In conclusion, I want to reiterate that you guys have built a top notch player and is one of the best on the market. I retired my still more expensi've Iri'ver h20 player in favor of this one. Thanks once again for listening.

<SPAN class=postbody>this is a post i initially made on nomadness.. however, here it goes.
    <SPAN class=postbody>
<SPAN class=postbody>hey, i really like the glow when it charges.. could we have it configured like, for example: charging|power suply|always (i hear you about the 4h on that 650mAh; btw why only 650mAh?!) somebody else thought that it might be nice for the glow to follow the 'beat' of the song currently playing and that would be very nice also.
<SPAN class=postbody>then i also like to know what i'm listening to, so sometimes i look at the display but as the backlight is off and it's late and the lights aren't on yet, i need to make it react so i have to push a button or something.. so i thought it would be nice to have at least the option to have it 'on' always. btw, i use to have it connected to a powes suply almost all the time if i'm not on the road, moreover, i use it to put me to sleep, therefore, the glowing thingy would be a nice 'effect'. <SPAN class=postbody>a new thing: i have micro 5GB with fw ver 2..02e and while it is connected to my pc, it is on stand by docking mode, no explorer window (or wmp0) is accessing it, it charges the battery but since it is in docking mode i cannot access it (listen to music). i don't know if because it is a BETA version, but it would be nice to have the possibility to 'undock' it when in stand-by docking.. so i can listen to music while it is charging using USB but i'm not interested in transferring to music. i am using xp professional sp2 with no creative drivers/software installed. anybody else has this problem?

  • Zen Micro Firmware 2.00.12 not list

I got FW v2.00.2 loaded up on my micro. If I wanted to update to a non-beta MTP firmware, which one should I go with?
I'm guessing there isn't any firmware that matches my needs, is there? The download page only lists:
    Creative Zen Micro Firmware .02.05 (<FONT color=#222222 size=><B>2.0 MB</B>)
    Creative Zen Micro PlaysForSure Firmware 2..02 Beta Release (<FONT color=#222222 size=><B>2.33 MB</B>)
    <FONT color=#222222 size=>
So I'm pretty much stuck with the one I got (ghost lines in volume meter and faulty "Lookup artist" function), right? And why isn't v2.00.2 listed anymore? Maybe to avoid confusion? What if someone was looking for the same as me? v2.00.2 is the version for them!Message Edited by noroom on 03-23-2005 09:9 AM

    noroom,
Firmware version .02.05 is a PDE firmware and not a MTP firmware. Also, note that if you wanted to update to version .02.05, you will not be able to downgrade to MTP version 2.00.2 after that but you can go to the beta MTP version 2..02.

  • Full revision list of the Zen Micro's firmware?

/ I've been digging up various firmwares, and I'll be honest and say that because I use an AC Adaptor that 2.2.02 and ..0 are not in my best interests. While I have no tested whether .02.05 retains charge over time I will probably do so tomorrow. I'd like to know the full history of the device so I know where to stand on this. I like to have the 4 hour standby, but not the 'shorter' charge span simply because all Creative did was drop the peak voltage from 4.9V (Li-Po can take up to 4.235V) to 4.2V. Granted the slope of the charging curve gets very flat at that level, but I do feel that it is best to inform geeks so they know what to expect.
    Version (Recovery Mode version)
    ..0 (0.0.65)
    2.2.02 (0.0.65)
.0.02 (0.0.63) (Pulled off due to complaints)
    .02.05 (0.0.58)
    2.00.2 (Cannot be installed)
I know I missed a few, but because the Zen Micro is past its life cycle I doubt there will be any customizations to the device.

    what problems?
Spending time on a support forum like this, that covers the full gamut of the customer base, you are going to see probably 80% of the posts from folks having problems ranging from minor pilot error to real hardware failure. The 20% with tips, kudos etc are all in the minority and will not be very visible.
Creative has probably sold over 5 million Micro's since inception. There are definitely going to be problems with that many units in the general population. And some of the problems have been real issues such as the battery drain and the issue of headphone jacks. The latest firmware v . has fixed the battery problem, and on the 3 Micros in our household we are all seeing over hours playback time, excellent battery hold time, good charging characteristics etc etc. The headphone jack issue seems to have become a lot less of a topic the past month or so. Noting that Creative sold probably about .5 million of the earliest Micros, and these were the units that seemed to have headphone jacks go bad, if at all, all the later products may have enough of a redesign that the jacks are OK. Certainly we are fine over here with the new revisions.
The pluses of the Micro are many, and the diminuti've size and excellent UI makes using this player a pleasure. Audio quality is excellent, and other than sheer output power is right up there with the JB3 (IMO the best ever mp3 player - irregardless of brand).
Hope this rambling note can help you with your decision.

  • [Zen Micro] [Firmware] Wish to improve the ergonom

    Hi.
I bought a Zen Micro, and in my opinion it sounds great...except its ergonomics, which could be easily improved.
Touchpad is pleasant to browse in the menus fastly, but it's often hard to select just the next or previous item : why couldn't we use the ">>|" and "|<<" buttons in addition of the touchpad ?</LI>
The fact that "OK" button and scrolling use the same area may produce frequent error during browsing : why couldn't we disable this "OK" button, and use in replacement an other button (for example ">/||") ?</LI>
Obviously it implies that these buttons couldn't be used for playing commands in the menus - except playing menu obviously -, but I would prefer a precis and pleasant browsing...
    Best Regards.

i tried on different usb ports, but im gonna see if i can get some other similar usb cables and try those. i really hope it's the usb cable, i dont want to return this and get another one...

  • Zen Micro, WHAT A SH

6 months in this thing randomly just gets a hardware problem, and i hadn't used it for a while, so its not like I dropped it. Just randomly this thing says it doesn't feel like working. I lost my recipt in a move, so now all is lost. I don't want to pay for a repair, when I can just buy something else that won't die like Creative's stupid stuff does. The worst part is that you guys make it so darn difficult to get it fixed. You guys owe me an Ipod. I'd rather not have the hassel of e-mailing you guys and all that jazz, paying for it to be sent, and then paying for the repair. So silly, this place is not customer geared at all. I wish I knew this before I spent my hard earned money on the player. Oh and Itunes is a way better program aswell.

Could you send me a link because I just dont see it. And I have the 2x version of Zen Micro Media and so far the categories are
    Import to Music
    Rip Audio Tracks to Device
    Organize Music in Device
Create a New Playlists in Device
Sync Music and Outlook Data between PC and Device
    Manage Organizer Data in Device
Transfer Data between PC and Device
I don't know if anyone can help me, but so far I've went to "Import to Music". It docks up, but makes no transfer. I'm not sure if I should've went into any of the categories first before going straight to "Import to Music" or if I just clearly need that Mediasource thing. Because I feel like there's a way of importing music on the 2x version without downloading any Mediasource. Anyone with the 2x firmware help. Also I was told to only use the 2x firmware with WMP0, but if that's the case then whats the point of the Zen Micro Media Player and all the categories listed above that comes with it. None of the categories seem to work. Once again, If anyone can help, I'd appreciate it. Because I don't know if there's something I just didn't do.

  • MP3 Zen Micro Music Purchasing Progr

I'm thinking of buying the Zen Micro but I don't know where i can buy songs that are supported by the Micro. Where does everyone get their songs?

I would recommend the Napster-To-Go service. I can't even imagine paying $.99 cents per song, and never have. For a flat $5 a month, you can download a mountain of good music, and stuff your new Zen Micro to the gills. I loaded a gigabyte of music into mine just this afternoon, sure would not have happened at 99 cents a pop.
I wish I could have turned Rhapsody into Napster-to-Go - I much prefer it, but they are still on the insane 99 cents a track plan if you want to take the music on a portable device (as the monthly fee is $0). What I love about Rhapsody is the great depth of genres to choose from. When I saw the Napster genre list I almost fell over it was so simplistic. It can also be a pain if the music you want to smack on your Zen is in Napster as a "buy" for 99 cents, but I can li've with that.
Since my son and I would fight over one music account anyway, we've decided to keep one Rhapsody account, and one Napster, and we're pretty well covered, still prefer Rhapsody on the home computers. I can open both at once, and go through the Rhapsody lists I spent eons building to help pick out the music for Napster lists to put on the Zen.
I have just one warning for you if you are a new Zen Micro owner - never under any circumstances hit the "Reload Firmware" command. I, and many others on this board, ended up with a pretty paperweight. Luckily I killed it in the first 30 days from Amazon, I sent an email that mine was defecti've, and received a replacement less than 48 hours later - have 30 days to return the broken one.

  • Where/When can I buy extra ZEN MICRO battery in JAPAN? (or U.

When or where can I buy an extra battery for the Zen Micro in Tokyo, Japan? The store staff here say you can only order it online and I haven't seen it on the Japanese website.
I also haven't seen it on the U.S. Creative site or any other store.
    Thanks,

Have tried to download drivers and software for Zen Micro. When I try to run it though, it does not install because it says that I do not have device connected. Have erased everything off of Zen Micro, but have not reformatted. When I attach Zen Micro to PC, Zen Micro displays "booted" & PC displays "Zen Micro" for a second or two, then switches to "MTP Device"?. Do I need to erase everything from the Zen Nano Plus first?2. What do you think my next step should be?Thx???

  • Creative MediaSource won't recognize my Zen Micro all of the sudden!! What is going o

When I first began using my Zen Micro, Creative MediaSource worked fine. I could start my player and it recognized it right away. Then I was told I had to update my firmware and download an update to MediaSource. I did both but shortly thereafter I started having problems! Primarily, when i plug in my Micro a window pops up where I have 3 options, none of which are Creative MediaSource. The window has "MTP Media Player" across the top bar, but i havn't a clue what the "MTP" stands for. The 3 options given are "Sync your music using Napster", "Synchronize media files to this device using Windows Media Player", and "Take no action". I initialy tried "Take no action" and then opened MediaSource only to find it didn't recognize my Micro any more. I then e-mailed Creative for help and got a reply telling me to.............
Thank you for contacting Creative Technical Support.
In regards to your issue, you can try uninstall and reinstall
    MEdiaSource with these procedures.
. Click START -> RUN -> type MSCONFIG and click OK.
    2. Click SELECTIVE STARTUP and then uncheck LOAD STARTUP GROUP ITEMS.
    3. Apply the changes and reboot the computer when prompted.
    4. Uninstall MediaSource from the system using ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS.
    5. Manually delete the MediaSource folders from the computer system :
    C:\PROGRAM FILES\CREATIVE\MEDIASOURCE
    C:\PROGRAM FILES\CREATIVE\CTCDDB
    C:\PROGRAM FILES\CREATIVE\MEDIA MANAGER
    C:\MEDIA\MUSIC
    6. Right-click your My Computer icon and click Properties.
    7. Click the Hardware tab and then click Device Manager.
    8. Remove any listings for Creative NOMAD products in the Device
    Manager
(they will most likely be located in the Uni'versal Serial Bus
    Controllers category).
    9. If you have a category call Other Devices, look for listings in
    there
called USB Device. If you have any, remove them.
    0. Install MediaSource only from the original installation CD.
NOTE: DO NOT OPEN MEDIASOURCE WHILE PERFORMING THESE PROCEDURES.
Also, you can try reloading the Zen Micro's firmware through recovery
    mode.
Move and hold the Power button to the Power On position and re-insert
the battery to the Zen Micro. Hold the Power button until the rescue
    mode appears.
Clean Up: Performs a disk scan on the players hard disk
Format: Formats the players hard disk All contents will be lost
Reload OS: Reloads the Operating System on the Jukebox. Do not select
this option unless you have downloaded the firmware. Reloading your OS
will not effect the contents of the files stored on your Jukebox Zen
    Reboot: Reboots the device
Please attempt the options 'Reboot' and 'Clean Up' first. If they do
    not
help, you must try 'Reload OS'. To do this, you must have a downloaded
firmware from our website ready. Please let us know the results after
these steps, as soon as possible.
For faster service please reply with previous correspondence when
    replying to this email.

    Creative Labs Americas
    "Get Creative"
I followed the directions, but 3 of the folders listed in step 5 didn?t exist (only C:\PROGRAM FILES\CREATIVE\MEDIASOURCE did), there were no Creative NOMAD products listed as in step 8, and there was no ?Other Devices? as stated in step 9. I did everything else for all the steps through step 0.
I then re-installed Creative MediaSource from the CD only to find it still didn?t recognize my player! I?ve now done this twice with the same results!
Zen Micro Media Explorer doesn?t even recognize my Micro when it'ss plugged in! It just keeps saying ?The device is not connected. Please connect your Zen Micro to the computer?.
I?m hardly a tech expert, but it seems to me that something on my PC is detecting my player and decieding for itself that the only 2 programs it will let manage my Zen Micro are Napster and Windows Media Player. If this is the case where do I go from here?!?!

    LakeTahoeGuy,
Just as SSR mention, if you're using v2.xx.xx (MTP) firmware then you will need to get the correct version of Media Explorer that support this firmware and also install the MTP plugin for MediaSource. Both the software and plugin are available from the site SSR mention.

  • Creative zen micro working with itunes.

for i long time i have been using the musiclibrary organisation tool provided by creative... and i have been satisfied...
but last week i discovered itunes... for all i know itunes was originally for apple products only (such as the ipod)... but i read various articles concerning this topic... and i found out that some people believe that it is possible to work with itunes and the zen mico... and here is the point: "How can i tell itunes to work with my great player zen micro?"
just to make sure that there is no offense... i liked the creative tool very much, but from my point of view itunes has got a tiny lead in inconsiderable details...
so i'm counting on your help... hoping to get an answer soon... jok3r

    Zach,
Have you try the legacy driver in this post before with WMP9? Although the Micro Photo player isn't listed in the list, other forum member has posted success with the driver so if you haven't try it yet might as well give it a try.
