Zen Micro with Napster Is

I have two Creative Zen Micro 6GB players using Napster to Go. One player (my wife's) works flawlessly with the Napster To Go feature. Everything downloads smoothly and directly. With the other player, nothing goes directly from Napster to the player. I must first download it to my harddri've and then use one of the different software options to get it into the player. This is not a terrible hardship as everything works eventually, but it would be nice if I could skip that one extra step.
It seems like the player is freezing when connected to Napster. The little curved arrows which flash on and off on the player stay "on" all the time after connecting to Napster and doing the little info exchange.
?All the latest firmware is loaded on both players and on the computer. Anybody have any thoughts on why this might be occurring?

Hi,
Napster to go is a fantastic service, very easy to use so long as you're only using the one machine. I used N2G a few months ago (have since stopped as I'm a poor student hehe).
Basic run down -
Firmware IS a bit "iffy" just make sure you have the "Play for sure" firmware on the zen micro. If i remember correctly Napster actually checks your mp3 player when you plug it in.
The napster software itself does require patience, I noticed when copying tracks it didn't display track by track completion but rather every 0 tracks update the list. depending on the size of your collection obviously depends on how long it'll take to send the music to your player.
If you're using Napster on more than one machine (you are allowed to use it on three per household) make sure you get the restore feature right first time, I constantly had to call tech support to get extra download credits added on to my account (free of charge) to redownload my collection after reformats etc.
Sometimes the DRM can get a bit screwy aswell, but it was very rare and tech support were very prompt in sorting out the problems.
In all I would highly recommend Napster to go with the zen micro, nice sleek player with a good service with a HUGE database of songs, it blows away anything else available at the minute *cough* apple *cough* . Please bear in mind that the problems listed above were issues I encountered whilst using the N2G service, however it should be noted I do tinker a LOT with things. Provided you leave things alone and don't try and "explore" you shouldn't run into half as many problems as I did.
Best Regards

  • Playlist in zen micro with playsforsure firmw

I'm using a zen micro with the 2..02 firmware... and napster to go... napster to go takes forever to transfer my tracks so usually I just use WMP 0 as a standalone... The question is... why can't I view playlists that I created on the fly inside my player in WMP0.... I've already accepted the fact that you can't delete most of the mandatory Napster playlists without deleting the tracks that they are composed of... and that kinda sux... but I thought that you would at least be able to view the playlists that you created on your player in WMP 0.... Is there something that I'm not doing?

WMP0 does not handle playlists properly, well not at all, so it will not work with any device the way its intended to do. Just got to sit back and wait for the next WMP update that Microsoft releases, but this problem was posted on their KnowledgeBase since March I believe so they are well aware of it.....

  • Zen Micro with PC connection Problems and no firmw

I'm running on Windows XP Service Pack 2 and I have Windows Media Player 0.
...and my Zen Micro wouldn't be detected, so I formatted it completely and I tried reloading the firmware. My old Zen Micro with v firmware still connects perfectly well, but Windows just doesn't detect my v2 firmware (now no firmware) Zen Micro.
    Advice, please?
    :edit:
Windows DOES detect my Zen Micro now...but I still can't do anything with it. It appears as MTP player connected:

    bkBlade,
Check this Knowledgebase article SID0053 and make sure the USB registry entry is correct. If you do make changes to the registry base on the Knowledgebase info, then try reloading the v2 firmware again.

It definately works with my wifes MuVo Micro N200. I think it supports all players that has a USB removable dri've feature, so it should work fine with the Micro.

  • Help: Problem using Zen Micro with Yahoo Unlimited Music Serv

I get a "Error reading device contents: The Data is Invalid" message when I try to synchronize my Zen Micro with the Yahoo music engine. When I first connect my Zen via usb, the Yahoo engine recognizes the Zen Micro but it is unable to read the contents of the Zen prior to my synchronizing. After trying to read my Zen for a while, I get the pop up message described above. I am using version 2..02 zen firmware and version .0..4 of the Yahoo engine.
Has anyone experienced this problem before? Does the Zen Micro actually work with the Yahoo service?
    Thanks

Here is the Internet address for one of the forums for Yahoo Music Engine. You might find some possible solutions here.

  • Zen Micro with Windows 2000 Not Recogni

Help!! My computer operating Windows 2000 no longer recognizes my Zen Micro. It used to but no longer. I have searched through all the help loading everything under the sun with no success. My Micro is operating with Version ..0 that I understand should and has worked in the past with W2000.
Please help. This is ridiculous - no Zen here.

I finally figured that out. With ME or 2000, I needed to:
) download the version firmware to my memory stick
    2) take the player and V firmware to an XP machine
    3) have the older firmware flashed into the player
    4) reinstall the player on the ME machine
I did all that, had Best Buy do the reflash, and it's working now.
    A few more questions:
If I later update the computer to an XP, any problem with reinstalling Version 2 firmware (other than loosing stored data in the player)?
Exactly how many features are not supported by version firmware? I'm aware that it won't support subscription services, e.g., Napster To Go, and audible format. Are there any other missing I should be aware of?
    TIA

  • Zen Micro and Napster to

I just bought the Zen Micro and have updated my firmware as Napster to Go wants me too, but it seems like I have to update my firmware almost everytime I log on to Napster and try and download songs. Does nayone know fi this is an issue with Napster or with Creative. It sucks to have to update it everytime because then it wipes out everything on my Zen Micro and I have to download the playlists again. I'm new to all this too, so maybe it's something I'm doing wrong or missing? Help!
Also, is there another music download site that might work better with the Zen Micro?
I'd appreciate any help I can get. Thanks!

I'm not a serious tech head, but I know enough to use the stuff that I buy. Basically, mine doesn't recognize my player 00% of the time either, I usually just disconnect my player and restart... I guess the software and stuff is an inexact science. I figure that as long as you can transfer songs to the player then your cool, and it will usually allow you to do that.

  • Zen Micro and Napster to Go probl

I have the Zen Micro and use Napster to Go. I updated the firmware on my player yesterday since synchronizing my player has become very difficult. I have tried using both the Napster to Go and Windows Media Player 0 to do this. With Napster to Go I get a message that the player has stopped responding, usually within 0 minutes, and with WMP it never completes. After 2 hours, the synchronized is only at 8%. Also, I have many songs that show a license error, even though there appears to be no problem playing the songs and downloading on Napster to Go. It is becoming very frustrating. The computer seems to have no problem recognizing the player.
Also, if the battery is nearly dead and I hook the player to the computer, I can't try to sync at all until the battery is charged. Is this normal. I have used other players where if you plug them to the computer they are powered through the computer and charge while they are used.
    Any help would be appreciated.

If you have any music on the player that's not on your hard dri've, move it back to the hard dri've now. (Since you just upgraded, that shouldn't be an issue; but since you're gonna reformat your dri've again, I'm just being 00% sure.) Then install the Windows hotfixes listed in the FAQs. Then go into recovery mode (remove battery, then hold power switch in On position while re-inserting battery until menu comes up); from there, choose Format.
If that doesn't fix your problem, go back to recovery mode, choose Reload Firmware, then re-run the firmware upgrade.

  • Creative Zen Micro with a ! on its side: not work

I had the Zen Micro installed in my computer but it stopped working. If I now connect the portable device nothing appears, and it tells me that I have to install the drivers. I put the cd in, but at some point it gives me back an error message saying that the .inf files refers to a service that doesn't work. What am I supposed to do?Does it have anything to do with a usb problem?

    ANY IDEAS?

  • Zen Micro with WMP 10 tutor

I now have the newest firmware and I have a simple enough system for transferring mp3s to the Zen Micro using Windows Explorer and the Zen Media Explorer. I like that the 2.x firmware lets me drag folders onto the player and it keeps the folders and sub folders intact. I use the Zen Media Explorer only to make playlists with the "organize music in device" function instead of the less flexible "create a new playlist in device" function
I was hoping to not need to use ANY Creative software at all after installing the new firmware but that hasn't happened yet because although I like WMP0 allot for playing videos and ripping CDs I have yet to figure out how to use it efficiently with the Zen Micro.
I kinda figured out how to get music onto the player (unfortunately this doesn't make folders on the player like if I do it through Windows Explorer) but I still have NO CLUE how to easily make and name playlists and THEN put those playlists onto the Zen Micro. ?
QUESTION: Is there a tutorial online somewhere that explains the use of WMP0 with the Zen Micro?
I have no use for any synching or stuff like that. I just want to dump files onto the player and make playlists of those files.

Windows Media Player 0 help files are very well done, and perhaps your answer is in there...
But as for folder creation: WMP0 arranges your music as Artist\Album\Song.mp3, doesn't matter how you have it structured on your computer, WMP0 will arrange it like that. If you use Windows Explorer then it will keep the same arrangement as your computer, like you already know.
Despite this arrangement, if you still want WMP0 to make folders on your player then:
    Connect the Micro
    Open up WMP0
    Click on Tools-> Options
    Click on Devices tab
Select your player and click Properties
Under the Synchronization tab check the box for <i>Create folder hierarchy on device</i>
As for playlist creation, WMP0 will only transfer playlists using the Auto-sync options. If you select which songs to transfer over then it will not transfer that playlist, just the songs inside it. To make a playlist you will have to use Zen Media Explorer, or whatever program that supports it like Media Source, or even make them manually on the player itself.

  • Results of sending Zen Micro with blank LCD in for repa

I was wondering if anyone who has had the blank or defecti've LCD problem with the Zen Micro has sent it in for repair? I've had mine longer than 3 months but less than a year and am wondering what its going to happen if I pay the initial $25 and send it in. How much is this likely to cost total, and what will the result be? Thanks a million!!!

Assuming you're from the USA, then you should only pay US$25, which is the standard fee for replacing the player.

  • Uploading to Zen Micro with Win Explo

I'm thinking of getting a Zen Micro, but I want to know if it will be recognized with a dri've letter in My Computer (Win XP). If it is, and I copy music to it using drag and drop, will the Micro be able to play that music? Any other related info would also be appreciated.
    Mike

It won't at first unless you flash the firmware to the latest 2.x version. But I don't recommend using the 2.x if you don't use an MTP, "playsforsure", or pay for mp3 download services. If you are fine getting the mp3's else where, then stick with the .02.05 firmware. I have no problems with that one.
So if you are getting your micro fresh out the box, install the drivers and software that's included with the cd before plugging it in. Then go on the creative site and download the updates. It does sound like hassle for the majority of people but who doesn't want updates that might help fix a few bugs?
I don't think it's a hassle at all, it's just a small thing to deal with.

  • Zen Micro with "firmware error". Seeking resuscitation advi

I've posted in several threads as my Zen Micro's health deteriorated and got no advice yet. Hope this time someone figures out what can I do.
I've got a Zen Micro, using it with Windows XP SP2 with WMP 0.
Firmware on player was 2..02 . I started having issues when syncing, it would hang and not finish the session, with the device screen on the "do not disconnect" signal. Read the forum and followed an advice to "upgrade" firmware.
Tried to reload firmware, but the process hanged at the "erasing firmware" screen for a long long time. I disconnected the player. After that, the device won't boot. It goes to the recovery screen after a "firmware error" sign.
If I try to re-upgrade with 2..02 firmware using the PC, the progress advances but at some point it says "firmware upgrade failed".
Tried to roll-back to . firmware. It goes through. It says (showing 2 blue squares of progress) "format completed successfully" then the progress stops and the player remain with the "do not disconnect" signal for a long long time (30 minutes, hour, forever?).
I tried to roll-back to .0 firmware. Message says "please install latest jukebox driver that support your player". I did, but the message stays.
Anyone knows what can I do to load a firmware succesfully?Message Edited by raft on -7-20062:56 PM

    Dear Creative!
You screwed the upgrade program a bit, because it is works ONLY IN ENGLISH version on Windows XP. Shame! You are pushing me into the sea of warez...
