Zen Micro wont charge using USB

Hi,
Can anyone help me. I have just purchased a Zen Micro and a Zen Touch. The Touch works fine. My wifes micro on the other hand is not - there was no charger in the box. I was under the impression that it can also charge using USB, but my machine (which is quite old btw - P4 650mhz Gateway) does not recognise it. Is it a problem with my machines USB, or is it more likely to be a problem with the Micro? I have purchased a Charger which should be around in the next couple of days (thinking it may need to be charged using a charger on the initial charge).
Any help would be appreciated,
Thanks in advance,
Steve

Do you know what firmware your wife's Micro has? (Check System > Information from the Micro's main menu to be sure.) Also, what Windows version (and service pack, if any) do you use?
Do you plan to use "to go" subscription services with the Micro? Current "to go" services include:
FYE Download Zone (US only)

HMV Digital (UK or Ireland)

Napster To Go (US, Canada, or UK)

Rhapsody To Go (US only)

Virgin Digital (UK only; US version doesn't support "to go")

Yahoo! Music Unlimited (US only)

For the Touch, did you install the drivers from the CD, or download the latest drivers from here? You probably should download the new driver (unless you have 2.x Micro firmware with WinXP SP or 2) to be sure it will support the Micro too.
Are you connecting the Micro directly to your PC, or thru a hub? If to the PC, is the USB connection you're using on the front or the back of the PC? It's best to connect to a USB jack on the back of the PC if possible, not to a front jack or hub (especially an unpowered hub which won't charge the Micro). It's also possible that the Micro has issues with your PC's USB configuration; you may need to buy a separate USB card (preferably USB 2.0--you probably have USB . jacks).Message Edited by RBBrittain on 09-05-2005 07:09 PM

• Zen Micro wont charge when connected using

I've reacently discovered that my Zen Micro isn't charging any more, when I connect it to my computer (or any other computer for that matter). When it's connected, the battery indicator switches from battery-status to battery-charging - however, regardless of how long I let it charge, it shuts down immediately when the cable is unpluged. So it doesnt charge at all!
I'm having a bit trouble finding my regular charger, so I have a bit of a problem here..
Has anyone besides me experienced this? And they might have a solution?
P.S.
The USB port it is connected to has its own power supply, so its not that it doesnt get enough power..

i got the resolution.
rasta maybe the drivers haven't been installed. (but it's strange cuz it should have been recognized as an hard disk)
by the way try this following took from support pages:
. Click Start, (Settings), Control Panel, System, Hardware, and then Device Manager.
2. The MTP player should be listed under Windows Portable Devices.
If there is an error or a yellow exclamation mark next to the device, right click the player listing and select Update driver. (insert the CD and select "automatically detect" drivers from the CD)
Alternati'vely, you can uninstall the device, and reinstall it. Highlight the MTP player listing, and press the Delete key on your keyboard, which will uninstall the MTP device; click Actions ,and then click Scan for hardware changes. Windows will install the necessary drivers.

• N85 wont charge using USB to mini-USB cord

Has anyone had the problem I'm having with my laptop and my N85? I used to charge my phone while at work using the supplied USB-mini USB cord. Suddenly it won't charge any more (unless I switch the phone off). The phone connects to Nokia PC suite, and is responsive in every way except that it no longer charges while connected to the PC. I've tried a generic cord in case it was a problem with the original cord and have exactly the same problems. I've tried changing USB hubs and STILL the same problem. I've rebooted both devices to no avail.
When I connect the PC 'dings' twice, then repeats this about 3 times. I can't identify what is going wrong so I can't fix it - any ideas?

You may need to play with the connection. I had mine USB plugged all the way into the computer port and it didn't register, but when I wiggled it out a bit, then it showed it was charging. WEIRD but true.
I just got my phone yesterday and am still trying to configure, etc it. But I love it. The battery life is far less than I'm used to coming from a BB world. But I also realize it's running more at one time than the BB did.
Good luck!

• Hi- Iphone 5 wont charge using power cable or USB...I am using a genuine apple charger/cable..this started after I was prompted with new update for IOS 7.

Hi- My Iphone 5 wont charge using power cable or USB...I am using a genuine apple charger/cable..this started after I was prompted with new update for IOS 7 yesterday. My phone is dead and wouldnt power up ..have tried resetting using itunes but i doesnt detect the phone and..pressing sleep/home button doesnt do anything

Update
I guess that it just had a bad connecting port on the phone itself, no clue why it wouldn't work when plugged in both ways other than there is actually some differentiating between the two sides.

• Zen micro not charg

Hi guys, I looked thru the FAQ and previous postings but can't seem to find anything on this problem. Anyways, I can't seem to get my zen micro to charge via the wall charger even though the battery is near dead, no bars. The micro just acts as if it isn't plugged in at all. I tried using a power strip to try to 'jump' start the battery as suggested as well as keeping the hold on when charging but nothing seems to work. I'm currently on a long trip without my usb connector so I can't try connecting to a computer. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what else I can try to get this thing charging? Thanks.Message Edited by ppong828 on 08-26-2005 03:23 AM

thx ssr for the suggestion. fortunately i'm living with someone who has a multimeter but unfortunately I'm not so great with this sort of electronical testing. I'm not exactly sure how to use one to test the usb end of the wall charger for the output voltage since the output end is so small but I couldn't get any reading. Also, I couldn't get a resistance on the input end so maybe that means that the wall charger may have shorted out. thx again for your help.

• Where can I get the Zen Micro Car Charg

That's the best thing for road trips!
I li've in Holland and I was wondering if I can order it somewhere.
Thanks.

Percell,
There is not a Zen Micro Car Charger released yet. Since it charges over USB it requires a different charger than our other Zen Players. When one is released it will show up in the online store for your region.

• Zen Micro New Firmware controlling Usb Charg

Is there any possibility to create a new firmware (for ZEN MICRO) that offers us to make disable / able usb charging.
I dont want to charge my player everytime.(because of battery life shorting.)

There is already an existing thread on this (which I replied to). A second one isn't needed.

• ZEN Micro- Loose connection with USB port while charg

Hello everyone, I just bought my Zen Micro today. However, the USB port is quite loose, I am able to shake the USB connection to my player. Is this normal?

It's normal for the cable to be a bit loose when plugged in, yeah. I shouldn't worry about it unless the connection starts being faulty, which I don't think it will.
If any of the actual player itself looks wobbly, though, you probably ought to get a replacement.

• Zen Micro wont cha

I got a Zen Micro about 2 weeks ago. The first time I charged it by connecting the USB it charged fine. Now it wont charge. The battery icon in the top right corner is flashing as normal when I connect it so the USB seems to be working, but the battery is still dead. I've tried on a few computers and the same thing happens. There was no adapter or charger with the mp3 so the USB cable is the only way I have of charging it. Does anyone know why this is happening?

Join the club! My husband is a computer engineer and I know that even if I were completely incompetent, which I am not, he knows his way around these issues. Like you, the first time I charged my Micro, it charged fine. The second time I tried to charge it I had the same problem. It would say it was charging even maybe charge a little but never all the way no matter how long I left it on. I tried different ports with more power. I even got a wall charge unit. Nothing worked. My Husband tried all the same things just in case I had done them wrong and he got the same failure. So, having payed for the warranty, I returned it, got a new one and loaded all my music back on it ( which is a huge pain) and the exact same thing happened. The first charge went off fine but then only partial charges. I am disgusted with the whole affair. I am certain that it can't be user error having followed all of Creative's directions to the letter. I am going to return mine again and ask to be refunded. If you don't have a warranty, maybe you can use my post as help in getting Creative to set things right with you. Good luck!

• Zen Micro Car charger quest

Will the official Creative Car Charger allow you to use the Zen Micro if the battery is completely dead? I bought a cheap usb car adapter and it doesn't seem to work correct at all. I am looking for a way to power the Zen Micro in the car if the battery is drained- I am assuming from Creative's product description you can use their adapter to power the Zen in the car if the battery is completely drained.
We really like the Zen micro but have had continous problems with the battery. I've updated firmware and have done everything recommended in the FAQ in regards to conserving the battery. My wife primarily uses the Zen in the car to replace her cd's. It is not used that often (maybe 2-3 hours a week) but seem to not hold a chage at all. The only way we have found to fully charge the unit is through the usb port on our computer. So basically we are looking for a way to power the Zen in the car regardless if the battery is charged.
Thanks,
Scott

I'm pretty sure if the battery is dead the Micro won't work even if plugged in. I remember trying to use a demo unit at a store and the battery was dead. They plugged it into its charger and it still wouldn't work. It said it was charging but the battery had to build up a charge before it would work.

• Zen micro photo charging without

How do I charge my zen micro photo using USB without XP? I tried charging using my office PC running Win 2000. I left it plugged in for 8 hours and my battery level never increased.
Any suggestions?
Thanks
OZ

I tried switching to mass storage mode, plugged to USB (with Win2000), waited ~2.5 hours and no increase in battery level. Thanks for the suggestion, but it is annoying that my ZMP does not have support for Win2000 in the first place, but now it can't even charge without XP.
Creative!!! Here are some suggestions
. Windows 2000 support.
2. USB charge capability with at least Win2000.
3. New software to manage files and playlists already on the ZMP.
I still have another week to return the ZMP, but it looks like I'll return it.

• Zen Micro (While Charging) makes my computer hang when opening/browsing My Compu

quick question that I can't seem to find an answer for.
everytime I open my computer to browse my hard dri'ves, it hangs for a few seconds, starts up the Zen Micro, and then shows the icons and lets me browse.
of course this is only while charging but it is still very annyoing. I also use a quick bar that links to My Computer, and it also hangs when I access that.
I am guessing its some sort of auto start function, but is there anyway to disable it so that the Zen doesn't turn on and slow down my computer habits?
thanks for the replys. I can give more indepth information if needed.
thanks
-=kaitou=-

lol. I figured it out in the Windows Registry.
If anyone else is interested in cleaning up My Computer so it doesnt show Removable Zen Micro Dri've and Zen Micro, go to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Explorer\MyComputer\Namespace\Delage Folders\
and delete the key for Zen Micro and Removable Dri've.
this makes it so that your Zen won't boot up everytime you go to My Computer.
;0 hooray!

• Almost full Zen Micro wont s

Hey peeps,
I have a 3 month old Zen Micro 5GB. All is working but i am starting to notice a trend in my player that when ever I fill it up to 75%-00% capacity; my player would stop interfacing my computer (the computer wont recognise it is connected). I usually use the Zen Micro Explorer and Winamp5.2. The problem would go away if only i reformat my Zen Micro's hard dri've.. Is there anyway that I can make it better with out reformatting.
Thanks

I tried to send an email to creative but was denied since my product was purchased over a year ago, and it dosnt look like im going to get the help i need here so i give up.
Creative wins, they get my hard earned money in exhange for a defecti've piece of **bleep** i havent been able to get working satisfactoraly since i got it and am now forced to replace...
Before purchasing one of their mp3 players i thought so highly of creative. I usually am more careful before making such a purchase but I, as many others, had trust in this company renowned for its sound cards. Even after the purchase i just told myself "a company like creative wont let this product sit with crappy firmware for long, they'll update it and it will be a great player" So instead of returning it when i should have a sat on it, and my dreams never materialized and now im stuck with a paperweight that wont install any firmware now because of a known issue with their product!
quote from SSR in another thread with the same problem,
"Unfortunately there are others who've got stuck after removing the v2 firmware, and can't apply the same or the v firmware. I suggest you contact support and hopefully they can resolve it for you. Please post back here if you get a remedy."
But i cant contact customer support, they refused to help me because my warrenty is out. If someone knows of a way to fix my problem please feel free to still post in this thread i will still check it in hopes of fixing my player, this forum is now my only hope with creative email support outright refusing to help me.
Thanks to anyway who actually read all these long winded posts but im done with creative...
