Zen Micro - Yahoo Music Engine says no license to x

<B>If you see an error indicating your songs may not be licensed for transfer:</B>
This might be an issue with Yahoo! Music Unlimited subscription music if you are trying to transfer subscription music. Your subscription music licenses are renewed automatically, but in some cases, you may need to manually renew them. This might occur if you have not logged on for several weeks. If you have an up-to-date subscription to Yahoo! Music Unlimited and you see an error message when trying to transfer subscription music to a device, or your songs on the device will not play, try the following:
Sign in to Yahoo! Music Unlimited. Be sure you're online.
Download a Yahoo! Music Unlimited subscription song, or play a previously downloaded subscription song from My Music while online.
Reconnect your portable device. When the name shows up in the left pane, your device should now be updated. </LI>
This is driving me crazy.
Following the FAQ advice does not always work.
)Sometimes you can download the song to YME My Music and xfer directly to the Zen.
2) Sometimes after the download you can play any downloaded song from YME My Music before the xfer to Zen will work.
3) Sometimes after the download have to play the just downloaded song from the YME My Music before you can xfer that song to the Zen Micro.
Can anyone provide insight?
(Sorry if this is not exactly a Creative Zen issue.)
Thanks.

It isn't strictly related to our players, but I'm sure there are other people on the board that use the same service, so they might be able to help.
But it might be a good idea to send a mail to Yahoo aswell, to see what they advise.

  • Yahoo Music Engine can't recognize Zen Mi

Is there any definiti've guide out there to get the Zen micro working with the Yahoo subscription service? When I plug in my Zen, WinXP recognizes it and asks me what I want to do (i.e. synch, or take no action), but neither the WMP software nor Yahoo music engine recognizes the Zen. I have the 2.0.05 firmware on the Zen, and have installed both of the following:
Windows Media Format 9.5 Runtime update, WindowsMedia-KB8922-x86 package
    </LI>
    Windows Media Player hotfix WindowsMedia0-KB902344-x86-INTL.exe</LI>
    ...but still no luck.
The Creative "plays for sure page" (http://ask.americas.creative.com/SRV...e.com,case=793) says to make sure that WMP is version 0.00.00.3802 or later, but it doesn't say how to get that version. Mine is 0.00.00.3646.

    Try this:
Open up your registry (Start, run, regedit)
    Browse to the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum
    Right click on this folder
    Select Permissions
    Click Everyone
Click on the Allow box besides Full Control
    Click OK
Restart your pc just to be sure that the settings are saved
Connect your player and hopefully it will work...

  • Yahoo Music Engine and Musicma

I was just wondering if anybody has had a problem with Musicmatch after installing the beta of the Yahoo Music Engine. I installed the engine yesterday to try it with my Creative Zen Micro and have been having problems Musicmatch ever since. Basically Musicmatch either will not start or will freeze after a period of time. I apologize if this is not an appropriate group for this question. So far I have not been able to find an other group to post this question. Thanks for any help or advice.
    Phil

On the contrary. I would stick with just Yahoo. After reading dozens of threads in various forums, Yahoo has had the most success with users getting their players working. Yahoo has also updated their software, which no other subscription service has done as yet. And Yahoo is also the cheapest so far, I'm not sure what MusicMatch is charging tho....
So far i've only seen problems with Music Match's subscription service.

  • Can I upgrade Zen Micro 5GB to anything say 20

Is there any sort of case that I can purchase to use the old dri've as back-up mobile storage
Are there any firmware problems (not just 'issues')?
    Thanks

Upgrading the older players was easier, particularly those that use the 2.5" dri'ves because (a) 2.5" dri'ves tend to come in only a few different sizes (b) they're relati'vely cheap (c) you can get a pretty significant upgrade to say 00-20Gb.
With the newer players it's not so straightforward. Dri've form factors can vary slightly causing the dri've not to fit, the smaller dri'ves are much more expensi've particularly in larger sizes, and you don't get significant changes in size.
This tends to mean it's uneconomic to try upgrading the newer players.

    For the Micro's microdri've, I'm not sure.

I'm losing track of the various issues with the players, but have a look at the buglist linked from my signature.

  • Yahoo Music Engine and Itunes Conflict

I downloaded the Yahoo Music Engine and subscribed to Yahoo Unlimited. It works great, until I go to run itunes again. Something happens where and artist like "The Cars" will be renamed "Cars, The" when a song is played. It does this just for a song that has been played and itunes then sees it as a new artist. So if I play an album the first song is then switched around and it stops playing, because itunes then sees it as the only song the artist has. The only way I have seen to fix it is to reinstall itunes. I don't want to switch all my artists to the "cars, the" format either. Anyone else have this problem or any suggestions

go through the recovery mode of the Zen Micro. Take the battery out, hold the power button, while holding the power button put the battery back in and then recovery mode should pop up. Look it up in the support section if u still need help after that.

  • Zen Micro Problem (music libra

im new to these boards, but i have to say there great lots of info!!! So on to my problem my 4GB Zen Micro works perfect except for one thing, if you start it on cold boot up like if you havent used it in a few hours the Creative Labs screen after the water droplet or whatever you call it. anyways the top left part of the Creative labs logo would be missing like a chunk taken out of it. When this happens it paused for like 3 seconds then boots up fine. So i thought updating my firmware to the newest one (i previously had ..0) So i backed up all my files before i updated into a folder on my computer. After i downloaded the firmware i downloaded all my songs back onto it. This is where the problem starts, after i download songs i always go to Creative Mediasource organizer and organize them so they wont be in all sorts of catagories on the player, like when i first download them. When i transfered the songs back onto the mp3 they where scrambled in catagories. Somehow I was trying to fix it but i accedently deleted all the songs from my player and backup files. So now ill have to download all my songs again and organize them into there catagories which would take hours. Is there anyways you can organize songs quicker? Just beacause when i download songs of limewire sometimes the artist's names arent spelled correctly or wrong genre or incorrect title......stuff like that. so when i download them from my computer to the zen its all scrambled on the player unorganized, which bothers me. Anyway quicker to organize? Sorry for such a long post
    Please help me!!!
    thanks!!!!

This is normal. I get the same problem with ..0, and just put it down to rather inelegant programming.

If you've updated to the v2.xx PlayForSure/MTP firmware, when you copy tracks to the player the PC will view the player as having folders. On the player itself though it will still use tag data.
It's always important to have clean tag data as the player works using this, so find a tagging program that suits you, and put some work into organising them.

  • Synchronizing zen micro with music collect

I have a lot of music on my micro which i found out was low quality, on my computer as you cant vew the quality when in exploria for the micro. so i re encoded the tracks from my cd collection to the computer at the required bit rate. now is there any way of syncronizing my music on the micro with the songs it already has but update them from the ones on the computer. as whae you do all of them it will transfer all the songs you dont have untill you run out of space.any ideas, apart from amking a folder with my micro music on the computer and transfering that.

I'm not too au fait with synchronising (I have a lot of music on my PC, and tend to just drag and drop) but I'm guessing that it may not know to update with new tracks.
I know that Nomadsync was pretty good in this regard, but I'm not sure if it woks with the v2 firmware.

  • Zen Micro and Music-To-Go (Napster) Serv

Has anybody had any problems with transferring music to their player recently? My last transfer to the player was about a week ago, but I haven't been able to do any transfers/deletions from my computer to the player today. It will show transfers at 0% or transfers will result in errors and the Micro will also freeze up (the battery icon does not alternate between the charge level and the lightning icon). My player is close to full capacity (about 5.3 gb full) and I was thinking that this might be causing slow transfers, but would not explain the Micro freezing on me. I tried running a disk cleanup, but that didn't seem to fix the problem. Any suggestions or similar experiences?

Make sure you are running the latest version of the Napster software. If you continue having probs transfering you can always use Windows Media Player 0 to transfer the tracks.

  • Zen Micro Photo Music Folder H

    Try deleting the Music sub-folder.

  • Help: Problem using Zen Micro with Yahoo Unlimited Music Serv

I get a "Error reading device contents: The Data is Invalid" message when I try to synchronize my Zen Micro with the Yahoo music engine. When I first connect my Zen via usb, the Yahoo engine recognizes the Zen Micro but it is unable to read the contents of the Zen prior to my synchronizing. After trying to read my Zen for a while, I get the pop up message described above. I am using version 2..02 zen firmware and version .0..4 of the Yahoo engine.
Has anyone experienced this problem before? Does the Zen Micro actually work with the Yahoo service?
    Thanks

  • Zen Micro "Firmware Problem" - One solution and what to do BEFORE it happ

My Zen Micro 6GB recently croaked with the dreaded "firmware problem" message. After a call to support, I was told to send it in, however I was later able to connect to the unit and download new firmware.
    Here's what happened:
In the middle of a playlist, the unit froze, displaying "firmware problem."
    - I took the battery out and powered up in recovery mode, then tried both reboot and reforomat. No luck; Still got "firmware problem."
    - I downloaded firmware updates, thn connected the unit to my laptop, which does not have MTP media explorer installed. The laptop does have Yahoo Music Engine and Windows Media 0, both of which are used regularly to copy music to device.
    - The computer recognized the Zen Micro, but the firmware update did not run, saying it could not connect to the device.
    - Retried several times, after reformatting, etc.
Now, here's what seemed to fix it
    - Let the battery drain completely while in the unit
    - Connected the Zen Micro to a computer with the MTP media explorer already installed. This is a system that is also used to regularly download music to the device.
    - Allowed the battery to charge for an hour
    - Started MTP media explorer, noticed that device went into "Recovery Mode"
    - Ran the firmware upgrade and it installed.
This is conjecture, but it seems that the MTP media explorer must be running to launch the firmware upgrade, but you can't install MTP without a valid device connected. I don't know why this is - maybe some kind of copy protection scheme. I only had it installed on one of my computers because it seemed unnecessary and I hate loading software that I'm not going to actually use.
This is what worked for me. Hope it works for you.
I'm still really disappointed with Creative's warranty terms, lack of phone support past 60 days and failure of tech support to recognize the problem and offer a solution, but my unit is working again and I didn't have to send it back!

By "MTP media explorer", do you mean the MTP/PlaysForSure version of Zen Micro Media Explorer? The earlier versions say "(for MTP devices)"; the latest ones say "(for PlaysForSure devices)". Or do you mean the Microsoft "MTP icon" in My Computer, which should appear on all MTP-capable systems (including your laptop)?
I don't really think it's a DRM or copy protection issue; I think the "firmware problem" is wiping out the hardware code the firmware installer uses to confirm that the device is indeed a Micro instead of, say, an iRi'ver. I suspect ZMME is one of the alternate means it uses to confirm that a Micro is connected. (An issue for further testing is whether ZMME should be launched or just installed.) Firmware fails on all kinds of devices; I suspect this is just a peculiarity of Creative's MTP/Janus firmware installer.
This is likely to be a significant issue for the FAQs and/or Creative knowledge base. With a growing number of MTP/Janus players in the Creative lineup (Sleek, MicroPhoto, and shortly Touch & Xtra), it probably won't be just a Micro issue in the future.
Edit: I just read the other thread, and they seem to solve it by going to a system without Creative software and installing the ..0 firmware. So there seems to be two solutions for now:
If you don't have any Creative software installed, reload firmware and run the ..0 upgrade. (If you need 2.x firmware, then install the Creative jukebox driver and run the 2.20.05 upgrade; you can uninstall the driver afterwards. Sorry, but some of us need 2.x firmware.)</LI>
If you have the 2.x ZMME installed, open it, then reload firmware and run the 2.20.05 upgrade.</LI>

  • I can't get my zen micro to be recogni

we wiped the hard dri've a reccently and i installed the firmware, but it won't recognize my zen micro so i can't play the songs that are currently on my mp3 player. i called creative but he said i extended my days to ask for help so he wouldn't really help me, but he said to install everything and i did(creative mediasource organizer, creative mediasource audio converter, and creative mediasource player)but in the player section, where it normally lists PC music library, music store, my computer, and zen micro, it won't say zen micro. i'm not making myself very clear. umm, basically it won't get my songs from the mp3 player to the computer(it's plugged in) and i'm leaving the country soon, so i really need my music(i can't add music to it either) so please help me! • Can you eject ZMP in Yahoo Music Engi

    Hi All
I just subscribed to Yahoo Unlimited To Go this weekend and am loving it ... loving trying out new artists/genres.
Anyhow, is there a way to eject my ZMP while in Yahoo Music Engine? That is ... keep the YME running but just eject my ZMP (like iTunes does with the iPod with a nati've eject button in the software)?
    Thanks so much!

    RentMusic wrote:
There is no "Eject". You can just disconnect the Zen MicroPhoto (presuming you have finished all transfers). I think your idea might not be a bad one. I forwarded your idea on to some folks I know at Yahoo Music to see what they think.
Hey, that's great ... thanks so much! I think there would be just too many people who would "pull the plug" too soon from the USB port ... I waited until the line was solid but you just never know with these things ... I think an eject button (or a "right click" option) could alleviate a lot of potential problems.
