ZEN Microphoto: firmware, WMP11, "MTP device not recognized" probl

Hi fellow Creative haters,?My story is much like many I have read on the forum. I purchased a ZEN 8GB Microphoto in Nov 2006, its hard dri've?died in Jan 2007 and after much suffering from Creative Support, had the unit replaced, then 2 days ago the new ZEN stopped being seen by my computer. Creative Support blamed WMP, my USB drivers, my USB settings (using regedit!!), firmware (which was the old v.20, even on the "new" unit they sent me in Jan), etc, etc, etc. My unit is back up and running (being seen) with WMP, and here's the steps I did Uninstall WMP and its components (see CS item detail on how to do this)2) Update firmware from v.20 to v.3 (only able to "see" ZEN after WMP uninstall)3) Format ZEN hard dri've. THIS STEP IS MANDATORY!!! Hard dri've must be reformatted after new firmware if you want your ZEN to be "seen" by your computer. This is painful, but in the long run saves a lot of wasted time.4) Reload WMP (and Creative software, if you are a masochist) and then resync all data you erased.5) Generally disregard Creative's suggestions for USB issues (including regedit), unless your issue is specifically related to installing a new USB card, etc. I tried 3 desktops, and none of them could "see" my ZEN; I guarantee it was the ZEN, not 3 desktops' USB settings... WARNING: Next Microsoft update (Vista, WMP2, etc.), will probably require you to do this all over again... MP3 players that look like flash dri'ves do not experience any of these problems, by the way... Good luck,?Karin

I was having the same problem with my Zen Vision:M under Win7 Ultimate 64-bit.
No matter what I tried from deleting the usb root hubs and reinstalling drivers, nothing would get the mtp usb device driver to load.
I found that the mtp usb device driver will load correctly as long as you are plugging the USB cable into a direct port and not running it through a USB hub. At first I thought it might be due to an incorrect USB voltage, but the hub I'm using is a powered Belkin hub. Very strange!
So give that a shot -- run the USB straight to a port out the back of your computer. Don't use a USB hub or ports off your monitor since that is actually a hub as well.
Good luck!http://forums.mycreativefansite.com/...ify_inline.gif

  • Zen Vision M...USB Device Not Recognized

My Zen Vision M 30g?is no longer recognized by my computer. I get the following message: "USB Device Not Recognized: One of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned, and Windows does not recognize it." I haven't changed anything on my computer (Windows XP Home Edition SVC Pak 3), so I don't know why it would not recognize my player all of a sudden. My zen still plays and charges using the portable charger, so it is still usable; however I can't change anything on the player. So far I've tried disc clean up, changing USB ports and plugging it into another computer (got the same message). I haven't seen anything on the bulletin board about "malfunctioning." Does this mean my zen is done?

Thanks. I keep getting directed to that knowledge base page, but it is not addressing my problem. My computer immediately tells me that the device has "malfunctioned" and the computer does not recognize it. I only have the usb cord that came with the zen, so I don't have another one to try. I love my zen and have staunchly defended it over the years vs. an i-pod. However, this is my 2nd one in 5 years. (The first one fried itself, but fortunately was still under warrantly.) Sadly, I, too, am considering moving on. I onlyreceived generic help fromthe Creative SupportTeam (who ultimately told me my zen is "unrepairable" when their one-size-fits-all solutions didn't work).Since there seems to be an overwhelming # of people experiencing similar problems, maybe the time is right to make the change, especially since an iPod classic 60 GB (7th Generation) is quite affordable these days.

Hi i had this problem too and the solution was amazingly simple. (I found it by searching on Google for ages!) Turn your pc off and then unplug it from the mains for approximately 30 mins. I know it sounds crazy but apparantly static electricity can cause problems with usb devices particularly if you have your device already plugged in to USB port-Windows forgets its there! After 30 mins plug your pc back in to the mains and voila! your Zen will be recognised again.
2:44 AM : After 30 minutes of trying to fall asleep with no success turned on computer and connected the Zen... Didn't have much expectations, but IT WORKED! IT REALLY DID! WINDOWS FOUND THE DEVICE CORRECTLY AND EVERYTHING IS WORKING NOW!

  • My Zen Micro Problem--USB Device Not Recogni

I'm terribly terribly sorry if this question has already been answered, but I tried searching through the forums and found no solution to my problem. Although my Zen had worked fine for a few monthns (aside from the loose headphone jack grr), my computer recently doesn't recoginize it. When I plug it in, a yellow box that says "USB Device not Recognized" pops up. I tried plugging it in other slots but I still get the same message. I even tried it on another computer and it still wasn't recognized. I repeatedly unistalled/installed the software and drivers from both the cd and website. I also uninstalled the MTP but now I don't know how to install it again. I even reformated my Zen. Oh, and I'm using WinXP. Is there any hope for my Zen? Suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

So you were on the v.2 firmware? And now you've switched to v. Or did I read that incorrectly?
If it ceased to recognize your player using v.2, you might want to try uninstalling the player from your USB port (you can do this through the system manager). If you're receiving this error message using v., then try unistalling the player driver from the USB port (again, in system manager), restart your computer, then reinstall the driver. I've had to do that a few times for my digital camera. If that doesn't work, you might try contacting tech support.
    Good luck!

  • Zen Extra "USB Device Not Recognized" ??? HEL

    Hi all,
I had a MPIO 20 gb MP3 player wich was stolen. No biggy, I took advantage of it and upgraded to a Nomad Jukebox Zen Extra 30gb. It look and feel nice and the navigation seems really easy. Where it gets more difficult is the "simple" pluging in!!! No matter wich USB port I use on my PC, I always get the "USB Device Not Recognized" message. Front port, motherboard port nor soundcard port (Audigy2) dont work.
Any advice, I really need help here!
    Thx for your time,
    Jacq
    Montreal, Canada.

I just bought a Zen Micro and had the same problem, the issue is with the USB cable. I had an extra cable from my digital camera and using it, the Zen Micro was recognized immediately. I've seen the issue posted here by other people too. You could try to return the player and chance getting another one with the same problem. If I didn't have a spare one, I would have just picked up a new one up at Radio Shack or Best Buy...

  • Zen Micro #2 - USB Device Not Recognized / Malfunct

    Hello again, all -
I am now getting the error of "device not recognized" / "device has malfunctioned" when I plug my Zen Micro into my PC (running XP SP2).
This is actually the second Micro that I've had, with the first one returned (through Newegg.com) for exactly the same problem. That first one I actually went as far as wiping off my old OS and re-installing (thinking that I had just hosed up the USB drivers somehow), but I still got the same error.
After replacing the first Micro, I got my new Micro in the mail and it has/had worked beautifully up until today. The only thing I did notice was that it did not seem to like working side-by-side with my Microsoft IntelliMouse Explorer 2.0, the system apparently confused the two. As soon as I'd plug the player in, the mouse would behave strangely - sporatically moving and then stopping, before just stopping all together. Reverting back to an old PS/2 mouse during times of transfer would solve the problem.
I am now getting exactly the same old malfunctioned/unrecognized error with XP with my Micro. I plug it in, and the "charging" symbol shows up and freezes in the top right corner of the player's screen (it's not flashing as it should be). The player is completely frozen. At the same time, the XP error box pops up in the bottom right corner of the screen.
    Things I've tried:
() Zen Micro disk cleanup - with no effect
    (2) Registry clean up - deleted all instances of my USB mouse, the Zen Micro itself, and all "UNKNOWN" located in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet00\Enum\USB - with no effect
    (3) Removed / re-installed the Creative Jukebox Driver (with new June 05 version) - with no effect
I am not about to format my PC all over again since this problem is identical to my previous occurrence on my old player, and I believe it will do nothing.
I have no other PC here at home to test this with on another PC, perhaps I will take it into work with me tomorrow.
USB is a truly crappy protocol, but I'm going to have to put most of the blame on Creative here for what I see as probably the worst technical support I've ever experienced. The lack of support for this product is incredible, with voodoo-like "try this, in this order" suggestions that are nothing other than a shot in the dark by them.
Such a shame - this is a great player when it actually works, but it looks like my players from them might be batting 0 for 2. Definitely will think twice about buying their any of their follow-on products, as yet another "next generation" of players is just around the corner.
Any suggestions as to what I should do? It's looking like a hardware (Micro) failure to me, as upon attempting communication with the PC it immediately freezes (while my other devices work beautifully).

Did you try the player on another PC? This will narrow down where the problem is very quickly.

  • Read this Catherina and Dale: Device not recognized WMP11 Media Explo

Dale's post on connection problems is broken. http://forums.creative.com/creativelabs/board/message?board.id=dap&thread.id=73478
Additionally, there is an issue with Windows Media Player and the Zen Media Explorer. I have verified that you can have one or the other installed, not both, or you will receive 'device not recognized'. ?
I've successfully connected to WMP without Zen Media Explorer installed. I've also rolled back to WMP0 and installed Zen Media Explorer. No other config will work reliably. (There were times with WMP and Zen Media Explorer that it would recognize my ZVM for a short period then 'lose' connection).
Additionally, if trying to install Zen Media Explorer with 'ZNVM_PCApp32_LA_6_2_0.exe' from your download page, you get some nonsense that it's not supported under XP SP3. If you install the older version directly off the CD and patch with 'ZNVM_PCPatch_LA.exe' there is no message of an unsupported OS and installs just fine.
I hope this info gets stickied and the issues addressed promptly.

    Hi,
Thank you for your feedback. The links on that post has been updated now.

  • USB Device Not Recognized issues

I have a Qosmio X505-Q860 and I've been getting the 'USB Device Not Recognized' error constantly for several months. I've never plugged anything into any of my USBs and the error is now causing a nice Blue Screen (which happened about 4 times yesterday within 1 hour). I've tried uninstalling the problem USB hub but it keeps telling me that it failed to uninstall (I'm on my administrator account when doing this). How in the world do I get rid of this so my computer stops crashing and driving me crazy!?
Edit: I should also mention that everything is up to date (I check often and checked just now).
"A stopped clock is still right twice a day."

I suggest trying another USB cable. If you are positive that your cable is not the issue then try resetting the iPod and booting into disk mode (Hold menu+select down until Apple logo appears. Then hold menu+play/pause down and the iPod will go into disk mode, see if the computer recognizes it then. If that works then their is either a software issue on the computer or a firmware issue. Worth trying to restore but backup all your iPod's files first!

  • "USB device not recognized" when ipod plugged in???

    (ipod mini 4gb)
When I plug my ipod into my laptop I get the message: "USB device not recognized." It says the device has malfunctioned!!! If I click on this error message it says my ipod is an unknown device and no drivers are installed for it???
It was working fine until a few days ago. If i reset it I can charge it up but that's all, it still does not appear in itunes or on my computer.
I've tried eveything on the help website but nothing works! Can anyone help?!
    patriot 3050   Windows XP

ok my question is do you have a mac or windows based laptop
here is why and what happened to my ipod mini
my ipod mini was connected to my macintosh charging while i was using my imac and it came up with a system update 10.4.3 i installed it and finished installing it and afterwards my apple wouldn't recongnize my ipod mini or even display it one the screen i found out by myself that when the apple update got to the end of the update it installed new hard drive drivers but also installed the drivers on the ipod mini which locked out the mini's internal hard drive and my mini then stop responding it would play music and charge but wouldn't connect to the computer
so what i did to fix it was this
i went into utilites in mac os x tiger or any version of os x has this and selected disk utility you will notice that the ipod will appesr in disk utility but not on the desktop this is due to a recent system update driver that isn't compatible with the internal drive on the ipod mini so in disk utility just select format the drive in a mac os partition standard works the best it will then format the ipod and the ipod will apear in the desktop again but not as a ipod let me explain when you format the ipod using the disk utility it formats and even erases the firmware of of the hard drive on the mini so when you are done formating the ipod run the ipod updater to reinstall the ipod's operating system and presto your ipod will now work again
warning: i don't know how to fix this on a ipod in windows so if this is a windows based laptop you need to find someone witha macintosh to do this with sorry

  • "USB Device Not Recognized. One of the USB devices has malfunctioned..."

I'm running Windows XP with external hard drive. When hard drive is connected, iPod will not sync and I get message stating "USB Device Not Recognized. One of the USB devices has malfunctioned..."
When disconnect the external drive, he iPod appears in My Computer. However, iTunes is on external drive; therefore music is not syncing onto iPod. I've attempted the 5 R's as well as searching for iPod in Device Mananger. When iPod is conncected, it is listed in Devce Manage as "Unknown Device."
I've changed drive letters on boh iPod and external drive and get the same message. Please help.

QRe: Zen MX Causes "USB Hardware has Malfunctioned" Msg from Windows XpyUhh, Yes.
I used to same cable to attach my Motorola Razr and the computer correctly found it and identified it as such.
I also tried another cable (brand new) same thing.
I went to recovery mode and did a "CLEAN UP" but no dice.
I also got my I.S. tech guy to look into it and on the USB page it say "UNKNOWN DEVICE"? when he tried to delete it it did not help, it just reappears as "UDVC"? Also in looking into it it seems to have no drivers.
He came to this site and tried to do somethinm through here but it did'nt work.
Now in listening to it last night it began to 'skip' or what I call 'HICCUP" terribly. Where a song starts and stops, during the middle of it. ? It's always done it a little but it has been getting more and more common and now? It's WAY worse about it.
It has never been dropped, or nishandled in any way. I bought the clear hard case to protect it. And only has about 300 songs on it. Never used for anything else. No vids no pics, nothing.

  • Itouch - USB device not recognized and Itouch now no longer works

I'm now on my 3rd Itouch since December all due to the same problem. All seemed to be going well with my 3rd replacement Itouch. Having loaded most of my cd collection into ITunes the night before I was going on holiday I synced my Itouch. Some sort of automatic download took place I think from Microsoft and suggested my drivers were being updated. Next thing I got message to restore my Itouch to factory settings. I did this and all the problems I had with my previou Itouch's started again.
When I now plug my Itouch into my laptop it says "USB device not recognized" and the Itouch will not switch on. I've done everything including reinstalling Itunes, holding down the power and home key but to no avail. Looks like I'm going to have to send my Itouch back again. I have a suspicion that a Microsoft download is corrupting the drivers. If anyone can help I would be very grateful. I really like my Itouch but the fact it keeps failing leads me to wonder if I should opt for something else.

I had success with the holding down the keys and connecting to usb and using itunes to restore firmware like they show here

  • USB Device Not Recognized (PC doesn't recognize th...

My PC in which i am using XP, doesn't recognize the 5800 when i connect to USB place through Cable CA-101 i read all posts but there were just similar problems later in the process and by using Vista not XP, i already tried all downloads, cable drivers, and uninstalling and installings it says in some similar topics like in http://europe.nokia.com/nokia/0,8764,81914,00.html but nothing, i some how checked the cable for any cut, but logically, it seems to be ok, as it shows the message: USB Device Not Recognized as soon as i connect it in both ends (PC and Phone), then i checked in all connecting modes like PC Suite, Mass storage, etc. and the same, reset the phone, and same again, restart pc, restart the phone, even one tip on this page that says remove the PC from the cocket and press the On/Off buton 4-5 times to remove all the electricity that remains inside the mother board, nothing changed at all. please any one who can help would do great,
I Thank all of you in advance,
    Regards,

I had the same problem. Solved by e-mailing nokia technical support.
There appears to be some conflict between the PC Suite and Nokia Updater Software on Windows XP. When I only installed the Nokia Software Updater on a separate machine without installing the PC Suite, my XpressMusic 5800 was recognised first time and the firmware update progressed without a hitch when before it was impossible.
All the necessary drivers are included on the Nokia Software Updater so you don't need to install any cable drivers separately. Also, the Connectivity Cable (CA-101D) that is included in the box is all you need to connect to the PC.
If you have already installed PC Suite, use the Uninstaller Software from nokia to remove the PC Suite software and then reinstall the Nokia Software Updater program.
Download Nokia PC Suite Cleaner 3:
    http://europe.nokia.com/get-support-and-software/download-software/nokia-pc-suites/how-to/nokia-pc-s...
According to tech support, if the software update succeeds, you can then install the PC suite for other features.
    Hope that helps.
    ps
I have assumed you've checked that your USB port on the PC is working and that you have allowed the connection to PC Suite on your Xpress5800 when the "pop-up" screen appears on the phone when you first plug in the USB cable.
In my case, I could still sync with PC Suite but could not update my firmware as Nokia Software Updater keeps saying that the Xpress5800 was not recognised.

  • USB Device not recognized by windows

When I first plugged my iPod into my computer, it went through the whole recognizing new hardware thing. Installed the drivers, then said that the new device was ready to use. But then I get a message that says "Device malfunction, device not recognized by windows" or something to that effect. I only have 3 days to return this iPod...anyone have any ideas? Thanks.

I'm not very familiar with the Windows OS but try this tip I picked on the forum up a while back, hopefully it might help.
    1. On the Start menu, click Control Panel.
    2. Double-click the System icon.
    3. Click the Hardware tab.
    4. Click Device Manager.
    5. Scroll down the list of devices to the Universal Serial Bus controllers
    6. Click the plus icon next to the Universal Serial Bus controllers.
    7. Double-click one of the indented USB Root Hub entries.
    8. Click the Power Management tab.
    9. Deselect the "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" option.
    10. Click the OK button at the bottom of the window.
    11. Restart the computer.

  • USB Device Not Recognized

    Operating system:  Windows Vista
    Error:  USB Device not recognized
While actively on the computer, we suddenly got a message stating that the USB Device was not recognized.  The only thing plugged in to the USB port was a mouse.  Tried all the ports, same message.  Tried another mouse, same thing.  Tried a thumb drive, and low and behold, 2 of the 3 USB ports worked.  Tried a URL from MS which is supposed to help with this exact problem and possibly fix it:  http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-vista/Tips-for-solving-problems-with-USB-devices
    This didn't work.
Contacted HP support and they wanted me to restore back to a restore point as well as updating my BIOS.  After searching the issue more extensively using Google, I found that several people said to do this:
    Shut down the computer
    Remove the power plug
    Remove the battery
    Put the battery back in
Power up the computer (without the power plug)
    This forces a hard reset.
Almost as if by magic, the problem disappeared.  A much simpler and less technical solution to the problem than what HP recommended!!!!

  • TS1369 Hello! I have an Ipod Shuffle 2nd Generation and it is not recognized by my Windows 8 based laptop. An error message of 'USB device not recognized' is shown. I have the latest ITunes version installed, and tested the dock in other pc's.

    Hello!
I have a problem connecting my Ipod Shuffle 2nd generation to my Windows 8 based laptop. The computer doesn't recognize the Ipod and issues an error message saying 'USB device not recognized'. I tried uninstaling ITunes(latest version) and all other Apple software and reinstaling it back again, checked my USB hubs in the 'Device Manager' section of the Control Panel, you name it.
I could really use some help solving this.
I've turned to the troubleshooting section in Apple Support but it has nothing concerning situations in wich the device isn't even shown in the 'My Computer' folder.
Help a brother out, will you???

Found a solution in another forum http://en.kioskea.net/forum/affich-63733-ipod-not-detected-on-computer (a few posts down).
It was for an IPOD so you can see those details in the link.
Found how to reset a shuffle and inserted it into these instructions - did not have to follow his last steps.
    - Turn off computer.
    - Plug Shuffle into usb.
    - Then you must reset your shuffle
    To reset iPod shuffle:
Disconnect iPod shuffle from the computer (if connected).
Move the switch on the iPod shuffle to the OFF position. Note that when iPod shuffle is off, the green stripe by the switch is not visible
Disconnect iPod shuffle from the computer (if connected).
Move the switch on the iPod shuffle to the OFF position. Note that when iPod shuffle is off, the green stripe by the switch is not visible.
    - Start computer and it should install the usb driver for the ipod automatically.
    - Your i pod will say do not unplug so don't. then open itunes and it will be there.
I did not have to do these thing below – did not get error message and shuffle was displayed in Itunes. / LMc
Just remember to not only eject ipod from itunes but stop usb.
Go to the program icons near the clock and right click the usb icon and "safely remove hardware" will appear and click it.
Stop it and select "apple ipod".
