Zen Microphoto FM Radio Freezes U

I purchased a Zen Microphoto 8GB last month. Everything seems to work ok except for the FM Radio feature. Anytime I try to scan stations, whether automatically or manually, the unit will freeze and I have to remove the battery to reset it. I have already tried the Clean Up, Format All, Reload Firmware, & Reboot options in that order and nothing has worked. The FM Radio still freezes the unit when I try to scan through stations. Any help regarding this problem is greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time.

I have a 8gb zen microphoto and the same thing happened to me. The first time I tried to use the radio and find a station it froze up on me. I removed the battery and that seemed to solve it. I have not tried since. I do not use the radio much but would like to be able if I wanted too. Thanks so much for these forums. I am a idjit when dealing with computers and electonics and have learned just from reading the message threads.

  • Zen MicroPhoto Freezes

I have a Zen MicroPhoto and about two days ago the battery died. As normal, I would connect it to my PC via USB and charge it. I charged it overnight, and woke up to listen to it. I turned it on, and for some reason it froze and on the screen was the word "Creative", I left it there for a couple of minutes but it just stayed there. So, whenever my player freezes, I simply remove the battery and put it back in. 99% of the times it works, but for some reason it didn't. I NEVER dropped my player, infact it's not damaged. I tried running the recovery mode, I tried clean up, left it on overnight, woke up and my player was off. Thinking it was done and up and running, I turn on my player and the same thing happened; "Creative" on the screen and nothing works. Again, I run the recovery mode, and this time I select the reload Firmware (or something like that) left it overnight once more, woke up and still failed to start up. So I run recovery mode ONCE MORE, and tried Format all, knowing that it will delete all my filed (I have all my music on my PC anyway), I go ahead and do it. Once more, I left it overnight (with the PC on of course) and woke up to no prevail... So I go to Creative website, and download the firmware updater, and now my PC doesn't detect connection via USB... So, I download these three apps I found on the Knowledge Base and still doesn't work... Anyone with any solutions please, please, PLEASE help me out because life without my MP3 player is miserable, very, very horrible and boring... Also the only time that it actually detects the player is when the battery life is low and that message "Low Battery" appears on the LCD screen. I then connect the USB and it detects it for a couple of seconds but I try to open the Firmware updater and it just freezes, when I remove the USB from the player, the updater opens... Maybe I should just buy an iPod because I'm getting tired of these ridiculous problems and I try to contact Creative via e-mail and by phone and they all say the same BULL that doesn't fix a thing. Thank you for your time!Message Edited by CJNoel on 06-7-2006 04:5 PM

Well there really isn't anything that you can do... I had the same issues with mine... I took it to the store and I got a new one and now I am having issues with that one as well so all that I can tell you is to either try again with another Creative or get a new one... Personally I would say get a new one that is what I am planing on doing this time.

  • Zen Microphoto 4GB Freezes - then no Recognit

    Hello,
My Microphoto (4 GB) player has suddenly stopped functioning.
A couple of days ago it froze when I tried to start it but after one reformat and two reboots it stopped freezing.
Now it starts fine - it takes longer than usual to boot, though. The main problem is that now my computer does not recognize it when I plug it using the USB cable that came with it. I have a Vista machine but I also tried it on my XP machine.
Also, don't know if this is useful but when I try to shut it down, the blue light starts blinking quickly without the device shutting down.
Anyone have a similar problem that was fixed?
    Many thanks!

hey there. i have an 8GB microphoto. it worked fine until, randomly, today it decided it wouldn't be recognised by my computer. my computer has vista on it and my mp3 worked fine on it until today. i went to the email support and tried changing the usb hub stuff on the registry editor but it didn't let me. so i did something kind of random: i turned on my mp3 and went into Extras - Removable Disk - clicked once and created a 28MB removable disk space. plugged it into my computer, it recognised the removable disk as something weird, don't know if that was normal. unplugged my mp3. took out the battery, put it back in, plugged it to my computer again and it recognised it as zen microphoto 8GB, as normal. it works perfectly again, i still have all my songs, pics and everything. i don't know if this is completely random as a solution to the problem, but my microphoto works now. try to pass on this support to anybody with the same problem to see if it resolves the problem like it did for me. thanks.

  • Zen MicroPhoto Radio Prob

Hello,?I have a weird problem about my Zen MicroPhoto. I just opened my mp3 player and tried to choose radio, but radio was not on the list. I had a look at configure menu but i cant find anything related with radio at my Zen MicroPhoto. What can be reason and solution?

microphoto uses oled screen not lcd. well for some reason oleds are cheap there better than lcd in someways but suck in others. uhh it could be that you got a fualty display id get it replaced or try the sleek photo. same price.

  • Freezing Zen Microphoto; post h

I wanna know, how many people are having this problem?
The problem, of course, is that the player will not finish turning on AND you cannot do anything in recovery/rescue mode because selecting an option will cause it to freeze.
This has happened to me with 2 Zen Microphotos already. I thought the first time was just a coincindence or something. Howeverm after looking throught these boards, its seems that the player is just all around faulty.
See the problem, Creative Labs? We post on the forums when we have tried everything else, we've tried the recovery mode, and it freezes. Lets face it, the Zen Micro has a huge problem that needs to be corrected. It does not occur after a set period of time, but in a rather random time frame.

Generally when the player freezes like that, and recovery mode fails to solve the problem (especially if it gives a "Hard disk problem" error), it indicates the player's hard dri've has failed. It's the same with ANY hard dri've player; we all buy the hard dri'ves from a 3rd party company. They generally fail due to abuse, same as in a laptop. This really isn't anything new to hard dri've based MP3 players, Creative, Apple, Archos, etc, in general.

one method i saw and tried worked well but you need to try it at your own risk!!! turn off your microphoto, grab your microphoto with the screen facing you, and either slap your hand against the SIDE of your microphoto, or slap the SIDE of your microphoto against your hand. This method works for me but try it at your own risk. it could damage your hard disk. (its probably already damaged anyways.)and if you really need to turn off your Zen but it wont turn off, i suggest removing the battery.

  • Creative Zen Microphoto 8GB hangs

    Hello,
I have seen a lot of posts on the same subject here, but have not seen any resolution yet.
I am sure the story sounds familiar... hangs at "Creative" logo, I go into recovery mode, and run scan disk or format etc... They don't work. I have even left the player on "formatting" overnight until the battery drains and it never finishes, same goes for "Scanning".
I am on my 4th player now and am having the same issue again. This time the player is now out of warranty so I can't return it, and I am not paying money out of my own pocket to get this thing fixed. Please don't tell me this product is defecti've... I don't buy that excuse. And it isn't a corrupt file, because a reformat would fix that.
Once it hangs, my computer won't recognize it, so I can't even try to update the firmware or anything.
Any new updates or information on this issue? It is obviously a well documented problem...just google "Creative zen freezes" and see how any hits you get!
I am pretty disappointed with this player. I should have followed my gut instinct in the first place, and just bought an iPod. I spent a lot of money on this paper weight. Any help, advice, prayers,or donation$ (for a new iPod) would ge greatly appreciated!

Right you will need to download the latest firmware from this site.
Here is a hyperlink to where you can download the firmware:
    http://uk.europe.creative.com/suppor...lect=4&x=9&y=2
You might have to put some details in.
Once you have downloaded the latest firmware just start the program up.
Plug in your Zen into the PC and then press the "Reload Firmware" button on your Zen.
You should see your computer screen pick it up.
Then you click on your PC to install firmware.
    That should be it.
    I hope this hel
    ps.
Got any questions you have just post on this space.
I do apologise if this does not make much sence my grammer is not that brilliant.

to use the player with the usb port you will need to add music files to the removable disc area of the player & when you connect the player to the stereo it must be in removable disk mode for the car stereo to read the files. If the car has a AUX input on the front you can buy a cord like this one? http://www.walmart.com/catalog/produ...duct_id=820445 connect it using the headphone jack on the player. The removable disc mode gives the better sound quality. Can you post a link for your model car stereo?

  • Creative Zen MicroPhoto Error (8

    Hi,
I'm from the UK but purchase a Zen MicroPhoto from the USA brand new. I've had it around 3 weeks and its been great but the other day when i went to turn it on the screen froze and it wouldn't boot up the the menu like usual. It is the Creative logo screen in white on the black background, the one with the copyright information.
Anyway i've had it in revocery mode and nothing but the reboot option works but of course it just boots to the same situation except that its just Creative white on black logo with no copyright info. Then freezes at that point. Of course it won't install the new firmware i have as it won't recognize it on the computer because it hasn't booted properly..
Clean up - Freezes and never completes
    Reboot Firmware - Freezes.
    Formate - Freezes
    Reboot- Freezes after attempt.
I've read through a few topics and seen similar things but is there a solution or is my Mp3 player faulty? It seems the optins to sort this out they give you are as good as a chocolate fireguard.
Will i have to send it back to get it sorted and will Creti've UK take it's
    Thanks......

If it was something the player could recover from (ie just an error), then the options in Recovery Mode should have done that. It unfortunately sounds like it's faulty.
Contact Customer Support (for the UK), I'm sure they will be able to assist you.

  • Zen Microphoto no recognized by

    Hi,
Up until now I've been pleased with Creative, but their knowledge base is not very helpful, hence I'm posting here.
My problem is this: My Zen Microphoto would freeze at the "Rebuilding library" stage of the start-up, so following instructions in the manual, I entered recovery mode and selected "Reload firmware". It deleted the firmware and I downloaded the newest version from Creative's website ready to install onto my Microphoto. However, when I ran the executable, it said "Player not connected" even though on the Microphoto screen, it clearly said "docked". So here I am, with no firmware, and no way of installing a new version of firmware. Is there anything I can do, or is that ?80 down the drain?
    Thanks,
    unconditional

Have you checked our knowledgebase yet? There is quite a bit of information there that could help, check this page for example:

  • Connecting zen microphoto to home ste

Does anyone know of a device to connect the zen microphoto to their home stereo? I found a device to be able to play my zen in my car, but how can I connect it to my stereo? I have an okay amount of music on there, but I am hesitant about adding more if I can only listen to it when I'm on the train on my way to work or riding in the car. My friend has an ipod and she saved my bachelorrette party by hooking up her ipod to my home stereo. Because my sister forgot her music at home and I don't have much. I don't by cd's freguently by buy mp3 tracks. Please help! Does this device even exist?

It is very easy to connect your MP3 player to your stereo. Go to Radio Shack and tell them you would like to have a Y-Splitter Cable for your MP3 player, in order to hook it up to your home stereo. The person you ask will take you right to them. Just buy one for each stereo at whatever lenght you think you may need. I got mine at around six feet long.
You then hook the red and white jacks up to one of your auxiliary terminals on your stereo, and plug the other end into your headphone jack.
Just cut on your stereo and set it to the auxiliary terminal you chose, and then cut your MP3 player on. You will have to tweak the volume, as MP3 players tend to not be as loud as CD's and such. I keep my Zen Micro at around 20, and adjust the stereo volume to the level I want at the time.
