Zen Microphoto Problems - Rebuilding Libr

I've so far had 3 ZMPs from Creative. My st one i dropped, my 2nd one froze up after the rebuilding library problem, and now my 3rd one is malfunctioning as well.
The 3rd ZMP has never been dropped, sccratched, or even touched because I have the Belkin case for it. When I put the music files into the player and select them to play, the music plays. But unfortunately, it dosent show the name of the song, album, or artist. Because I thought it was file corruption, I did a firmware erase and loaded the firmware. Then I couldnt get the computer to recognize it, so I used another computer to put the firmware in.
After that, my ZMP started the rebuilding library routine again. I redownloaded the firmware again, thinking that something else was wrong.
And alas, after that last firmware upgrade, my ZMP wont go past the creative logo.
Im sure that it isnt just a coincidence that I was given 2 bad players in a row.
Any help would be appreciated

Have you tried using recovery mode?
Slide the battery into the player while holding the power switch towards the 'ON' direction.

  • Zen Microphoto problems - Hiss/squeak at start of trac

    Hi, i'm new to this forum, but i've joined up becasue i'm very frustrated with my Zen Microphoto.
    I purchased a dark blue ZMP a few months ago, and was disappointed with its perfomance beacsue it had bad backgroud noise and a very annoying hiss/squeal which came on at the start of music playback, i.e. when u choose a track to play, or skip one.
    I took the player in to my place of purchase, and got it sent off to be repaired. I've now got another dark blue replacement ZMP form Creative, but unfortunately it has the same problem. I am rightfully annoyed, and i might consider getting a refund, if this happens on all microphotos, cause i don't like it.
    I've read some of the forums regarding the backgroud hiss that is present in some ZMPs, but none have my problem of the hiss/squeal overlaying approx 6 seconds of music playback. (this only happens when the screen is on, as u can't choose a track to play with it off). Also, when the harddri've is reading a track, simultaneously to this, if i put my ear the the actual player unit, i can hear a similar noise, that also comes on at start up. has anyone experience this?
    Is this normal & has anyone ever experienced this before, or have i just ended up with two freaky players? If so, should i just get another replacement- maybe a different colour?

    The sound you're talking about is just a sound of a hard dri've when the display is on. As the display fades out the sound dissapears. I think it's normal and it happens on my Microphoto too. And it doesn't happen only at start of tracks - try to rewind a track to the middle and you'll hear it as well - as long as the display will be on.

    <FONT face=Verdana size=>Hello-
    <FONT face=Verdana size=>
    <FONT face=Verdana size=>My Zen Microphoto [ 8 gb ] has not been functioning properly. When I turn it on, it displays "Firmware Problem"
    <FONT face=Verdana size=>Now I have read some other users post about similar problems. However their solution was to ''clean-up & re-format'' the player. However, my Zen gives me no options to do so. I have tried plugging it into my notebook, however, the program doesn't recognize that it is there.
    <FONT face=Verdana size=>
    <FONT face=Verdana size=>*I have dropped my player a few times, but not with hard force.
    <FONT face=Verdana size=>
    <FONT face=Verdana size=>In addition, When the screen displays ''Firmware Problem'' it goes frozen-- and cannot shut off [ i remove the battery to shut it off ]

    Is there a specific option i should choose to solve this firmware problem?[[ and what exactly is firmware? Sorry i am not really familiar with this ]]
    Firmware is like Windows in your computer- it basically 'runs' your .mp3 player.
    First select Clean Up and let it complete. It should only take a few moments. Then select Reboot.
    Does that fix the problem?
    If not, select Format, allow it to complete. Select Reboot.
    Does that fix the problem?
    If neither of those work, select Reload Firmware and reboot.
    Requirements:
    ? Microsoft? Windows? XP Professional x64 Edition, Windows XP (Service Pack or later) or Windows XP Media Center Edition 2004
    ? Windows Media? Player 0 or later
    Notes:
    ? To install this firmware
    . Download the ZENMicroPhoto_PCFW_L6__3_0.exe file into your local hard disk.
    2. Connect your player to your computer.
    3. Double-click the firmware file and follow the instructions on the screen.
    If you still have troubles, try this:
    Do a Clean Boot on your computer.
    Once your computer has re-booted:
    ? Connect the MP3 player to a USB port on the back of the PC.
    ? Click Download Now next to the firmware upgrade-> Agree-> Save-> Save to Desktop
    ? When the file download shows Download Complete, click Run
    ? Click the Upgrade button to start the Firmware installation
    ? When the firmware upgrade shows Firmware upgrade completed, click Close
    Note:
    ? If the firmware update could not detect the player being connected, unplug the player and plug it in again.
    ? Do not disconnect the player once the firmware update is in progress.
    ? When the firmware update is complete, the player will start charging automatically. It will display a charging icon, and the blue power LED will start blinking.

  • Zen Microphoto Problem!! Help plea

    Ok, so i've got blue microphoto. It has been working great during a year. But now theres a problem. When i connect it to my computer, and try to move music there with MicroPhoto Media Explorer, it says: "Your player is not connected. Please connect your Creative Zen Microphoto to the computer." But it is connected correctly. It has been working before. I have tried to install the cd few times, but it doesnt help. What shall i do?

    Well. I did this: Start -> Run.. -> devmgmt.msc
    Then look for microphoto from the list, then click that update thing up in buttons when u have selected that player. Then look for updates with internet. That program connects to the windows update thing, and finds an update. Its something like that has 3 letters in beginning and first is M.. i mean the updates name. Then it wokrked.

  • Zen MicroPhoto Problems! PLease,I Really Need Help!!

    hello everybody, i bought a zen microphoto 4GB in June and it worked perfectly until two days ago. I turned it on like i do everyday to listen to music on my way to school. i downloaded the newest version of firmware onto it'sthree days before. when i turned it on, it went into recovery mode. so i went to reboot, and it goes back into recovery mode. i tried about 3 times, then it disabled all the functions. i couldn't control anything. so i took out the battery, and left it until i came home. i come home, put in the battery, turn it on. i plug it in the computer, and the computer does not reconize that its docked and the screen goes white and then it shuts off by itself. then it just freezes, it refuses to turn on. i tell my friend?yesterday at school and he said the hard dri've crashed and now i have a brick the size of a zen microphoto. is this true, or?is something else wrong with it. please someone help if you can. • My Micro Zen stuck in rebuilding libr

    And I can't even try to save my files on my computer before I format all of the zen
    Its stuck in the rebuilding library

    Your English is fine, no need to apologize.
    It sounds like you've taken the right steps to fix the problem (Accessing Rescue Mode and running Clean Up) I might try updating the firmware to the newest v.XX.XX and see if the freezing persists. If it does, I'd contact Creative Support for an RMA. Repeated freezing after troubleshooting is a sure sign of hardware failure. Good luck!

  • Zen Micro Problem (music libra

    im new to these boards, but i have to say there great lots of info!!! So on to my problem my 4GB Zen Micro works perfect except for one thing, if you start it on cold boot up like if you havent used it in a few hours the Creative Labs screen after the water droplet or whatever you call it. anyways the top left part of the Creative labs logo would be missing like a chunk taken out of it. When this happens it paused for like 3 seconds then boots up fine. So i thought updating my firmware to the newest one (i previously had ..0) So i backed up all my files before i updated into a folder on my computer. After i downloaded the firmware i downloaded all my songs back onto it. This is where the problem starts, after i download songs i always go to Creative Mediasource organizer and organize them so they wont be in all sorts of catagories on the player, like when i first download them. When i transfered the songs back onto the mp3 they where scrambled in catagories. Somehow I was trying to fix it but i accedently deleted all the songs from my player and backup files. So now ill have to download all my songs again and organize them into there catagories which would take hours. Is there anyways you can organize songs quicker? Just beacause when i download songs of limewire sometimes the artist's names arent spelled correctly or wrong genre or incorrect title......stuff like that. so when i download them from my computer to the zen its all scrambled on the player unorganized, which bothers me. Anyway quicker to organize? Sorry for such a long post
    Please help me!!!
    thanks!!!!

    This is normal. I get the same problem with ..0, and just put it down to rather inelegant programming.

    If you've updated to the v2.xx PlayForSure/MTP firmware, when you copy tracks to the player the PC will view the player as having folders. On the player itself though it will still use tag data.
    It's always important to have clean tag data as the player works using this, so find a tagging program that suits you, and put some work into organising them.

  • Zen Xtra always rebuilding libr

    I have a funny feeling it may be the first sign of a hard dri've failure. My Zen Xtra 60 gig is more often these days when turned on rebuilding its library. Upon the rebuild, I find that the unit doesn't have the couple of gig worth of tracks I put on it just recently. Each time it has done a rebuild, the tracks disappear, I put them back on, then they go again. The unit also shows albums and tracks that I deleted off the unit quite some time ago. Would a firmware update assist at all? Or can the unit be formatted?Trev.

    My 60gb keeps doing it - I belei've it started happening around the time I bought a laptop and instaleld the latest creative drivers donwloads on it - could this be the case? I have heard rumours on other forums about firmware faults similar to this. Creative, can YOU please respond.....

  • Zen MicroPhoto problem

    Hi All,
    My zen is in recovery mode and it wont started. I've tried to clean up and and to reload firmware and it still down.
    My computer recognize the Zen but the firmware updater not recognize it.
    How can i solve the problem?
    Thanks,Arik.

    You did not answer my questions. But anyway if you have WMP installed on the computer you will need to roll it back to WMP0 for the firmware file to see the player. http://forums.creative.com/showthread.php?t=557307

  • Zen Microphoto Pixel Problems (Red Li

    OK, so I have a BRAND NEW Zen Microphoto and ever since I first turned the thing on I have this RED LINE (about pixel wide) running vertically down the middle of my screen. It's like you can still see what's there behind it if you look closely.
    I actually had gotten it go away for a little while, and it has come back and has been there since. So I don't believe there is damage to the actual OLED screen, but who knows I'm no professional here!!
    Other than the annoying line the player seems to be working fine.. but like I said, its ANNOYING.
    I have tried a few things to fix it.. I've formatted it and rebooted it from Recovery Mode.. I've TRIED to update the firmware, but I can't seem to get the Firware Update to connect to my Microphoto. Windows, Windows Media Player, and Creative MediaSource Organizer reads it being there.. yet NOT the Firmware Update. Actually I THINK I got WIndows to update the Firmware for me or something because accorinding to my Microphoto it already has that version on there?
    If anyone has any suggestions, or heard of this happening PLEASE let me know. I'm not really sure what to do at this point. I looked all over the place to find one, and when I finally did I'm having problems with it!
    Thanks!

    I am having the exact same problem with my Zen Microphoto. There is a vertical red line in the display. It appears to be pixel in width extending the height of the screen, top to bottom. EXTREMELY annoying!
    What is Creative's policy to fixing this?

  • Zen MicroPhoto connection problem/file transfer prob

    My wife had a Zen MicroPhoto player that she used for audiobooks. About a month ago it started having "no device found" problems with the Media Explorer. She bought a new player, and it's no better. The Media Explorer will not install. I tried installing it separately, and the installation hangs, because it cannot find the player. She is using the Organizer now to transfer files, but she much prefers the Explorer. Many of the audiobook discs have the same file names (e.g., Track , Track 2, Track 3,....,etc.). When that happens, with the second and subsequent disks, she gets a message asking whether to replace or skip the duplicate files; the file names are the same, but the disks have different album names. Is there a workaround for this?

    I thought Creative's customer support was bad, but this "discussion forum" sucks big time -- not a single reply. Thanks....

  • Zen MicroPhoto software-problem (win2k-suppor

    today I bought the ZMP cuz I was faszinated about it.
    I use win2k (newest SP's).
    The instalation of zen's software doesn't work. At the shop they said I need some software -update and it'll do, but I searched almost the whole web without any result (am I the only one with win2k and the Zen microphoto?). I don't want to upload pictures and I don't wan't any special features (till now). I just wan't to put some fine music onto my fine ZMP without buying winXP.
    Can anyone help me solving this problem?

    ^you need to check out [url="http://forums.creative.com/creativelabs/board/message?board.id=dap&message.id=3044">this thread[/url] and download the legacy drivers.
    The Zen MicroPhoto is a MTP device and is designed to work with Win XP with SP or 2 installed and Windows Media Player 0.
    If you want to use another OS, you need to d/l the legacy drivers.
