Zen Microphoto Question (I'm Just A little Worried

I bought my ZMP couple months ago and everything is working fine but sometimes when the player is off and its just on the table it blinks with its blue light and then nothing! if I notice this I turn its on to check if nothing is broken or something and its actiong normal
tell me please if its a normal action or I need to do something about it
Regards, Or

Yes, that is normal. After 4 hours of inactivity the light will blink and this is when the MicroPhoto goes into full shutdown to save battery life.
No need to worry, happens on my Micro, MicroPhoto and Vision:M

• To Everyone Whos Zen MicroPhoto Won't connect to their pc,I have Your Solut

To Get Your Computer To Recognize Your Zen MicroPhoto you need to just reinstall your current version of windows media player because it has all of the drivers for mp3 players. This worked for me and should work for everyone else. This won't erase your current library of songs. Once you have it reinstalled your library will be how it was before. Your Welcome once this works.

Well, that doesn't help. I uninstalled every Creative thing--the driver, MediaSource, etc--restarted the computer and installed the .30.03 version;? no joy, same symptoms. I uninstalled that, restarted? my machine and installed the .20.04c version driver, which seems to be the latest WHCL certified one. No change.
I strongly suspect the firmware now. I'm tempted to "Reload OS" diag option, but if the drivers don't work, I'll be stuck with a completely useless device.

• Want a Zen Microphoto but have questi

. Is the 8gig model Flash memory based or does it have a HDD? I would prefer flash.
2. Will it play wma lossless encoded tracks?
How is the sound qualuty compared to an iPod 5G? A good friend gave me a black 5G and I do enjoy it, but I'm in the process of ditching Apple products. lately I've come to the conclusion that buying music via the ITMS or any other online music store is a complete waste of money given all the lousy DRM restrictions. Apple in particular annoys me because all the music I bought is locked to using Apple hardware unless I burn to CD and re-rip to another format which causes degradation in audio quality. Another thing that irks me about Apple is they charge this outrageous premium for outdated technology. No FM Tuner, pathetic battery life and the use of delicate, scratch-prone material that an entire industry has been created to remedy lead me to dislike Apple very much. Lets not forget idiotic design flaws like forcing the customer to send the iPod in for battery replacment which they are all too happy to do for alot of $$$.
Thanks in advance

i have a zen microphoto and let me just say: Ditching ipod.... IS A SMART MOVE !!
Zen microphoto is, of course, in color and has a battery simular to a cell phone battery, so you can handle it, charge it, and replace it whenever you want, or buy extras for long play (i have 2 batteries so when one dies on a long trip, i can switch the second one in seconds)
do you use itunes? GREAT!!! i like my music loud, so i turn the equalizer on itunes all the way up. and to add to that, zen microphoto has its own equalizer that you can set by yourself and choose how high the sound bars go!! with both itune's and zen's equalizer up, you can have a crystal-clear boom of music.
zen has great sound. better than ipods if you use after market earphones because stock ones suck on both ipod and zen (they sound the same with stock phones). zen can go way louder than ipods and be clearer.
the 8GB you ask? as a graduate of M. I. T, im gonna tell you right now that it is not possible for any type of player to have over 5GB and have flash memory. this is for reasons being that if you had a gigantic chip like that, it would be extreemly unstable and fragile. thats why hard dri'ves are made. a hard dri've for mp3 players allows them to hold tremendously more memory and still be very tough and small, since it uses a spining magnet that will virtually last forever. flash dri'ves can loose maximum memory after use and degrade faster than anything over time like "polaroid pictures"?
I would highly suggest a microphoto over any ipod because of the toughness of the model (it is highly scratch-proof and fingerprint proof, unlike ipods). it wont break umless you are extreem with it (wetting it alot, droping it constantly, ect.) its basicly a better player for the same price as an ipod nano. plus, an ipod nano does not even have replacable batteries, nor does it have a radio like the microphoto. to add to that, microphotos are beautiful and have a bigger screen and better quality zoom-in capable pictures and auto focus.
this device is the perfect mp3 player if you want a mini sized, high memory player with the great support of creative guarding your back and worth way more than your charged for an innovation like this. had mine for 3 months now.
PS: if your smart, you wont update the firmware, as this is gambling with your players usability or any mp3 player for that matter. im superb on the one it came with.

• Just got my white Zen MicroPhoto (warning: large pi

I finally got my white Zen MicroPhoto in from Singapore yesterday (I'm in the USA).
Overall I am very impressed and so far, the only thing that I have found that I'm not really fond of is the size/shape of the screen. It is definitely more of a square than a rectangle, which leads to more of the song info being cut off as opposed to the regular Zen Micro.
The sides and back (battery cover) are now made out of annodized metal instead of plastic. And the hold button, usb port, and headphone jack all seem a lot more sturdy, but at this point in time I'm not willing to do any further testing on that (especially the headphone jack) for obvious reasons.
Also, there is a piece of paper in the box that says the PlaysForSure feature will be available soon via a firmware download.
Feel free to ask me any questions and I will answer them to the best of my ability.
Cheers, Alex

Yup, I had a 5gb Zen Micro, one of the first ones that came out (and I didn't start having the headphone jack problem with mine until about 0 months after owning it). I cannot notice a difference between the sound quality but I will say the sound quality is greatly affected by which headphones you are using. When switching between the stock head phones and a pair of iPod Headphones, the iPod headphones sounded slightly better but the volume was much lower. I've honestly never listened to any other current MP3 players so I can't make a good comparison there, but I will say there is little if no difference in sound quality between the Zen Micro and the Zen MicroPhoto. I do not find the OLED screen to be dim at all, it's bright enough to be read in almost any condition I've used it in so far. The screen looks very nice, it's not anything spectacular but it shows photos quite nicely, minus the fact that the screen is a little square. I would probably rate it around an 8 but I'm going to take a look at my friends iPod Photo on Monday and see if i can compare.

• Just bought my Zen MicroPhoto... Turned it on and

I just purchased my Zen MicroPhoto... I was getting it set up and after toying with it for about 30 minutes I noticed that running horizontal about /4 from the top is a dark line. Not really noticeable with dark backgrounds, but VERY NOTICABLE when viewing light photos.
I cannot tell if it is a DEAD LINE of pixels or just a half-dead line.
The problem is that the store I bought it from (BEST BUY) is COMPLETELY OUT in the whole district.
I really want to use it, but I don't want to keep it if it is a row of pixels on the verge of crapping out.
What do you suggest?

wow the same here i just really noticed it i've had it sence christmas 2006 and i have a line about the top but not quite and one in the about middle and one right below it about the same distance from the one on the top and two?very close to the bottom i only noticed it on the gray folder screen by were u see the pics o and the lines on the bottom are about the same distance as the little scroll of wat the pic is the folder name. lol idk idc i gess im in the us and there dicontinuted and i can only tell the one on top on light screens like little?blue and white and the others just the gray screen of the folders in the pics section. not much i can do right?

• Just got an 8 gig Zen MicroPhoto and love it! Just some suggestions tho

Hi everyone, my friend was considering a Zen Vision M and an Ipod video. I kinda suggested the Zen so he got it and absolutely loves it.
After seeing how nice the Zen Vision M is, I jumped on this MicroPhoto when I saw a sale and it is awesome!
The Zen MicroPhoto is a really good device, but just simple firmware stuff could make it a great one.
.) Ability to view pictures + listen to music
2.) Ability to view movies and video (the Muvo has smaller capacity and a screen with less colors and it can? Yet we are buying a nicer mp3 player than the Muvo but can't do video? The Sansa is small as hell and it can. It has the screen, hardware wise it should be able to do it, and if this is added through a firmware update, it won't be on the packaging and thus will not hurt sales of your other products.
I hate it when an awesome product is created and is capable of something and the manufacturer slashes that ability from it intentionally.
Another good example is the Gen III Ford Taurus SHO, its 3.4 liter Yamaha V8 was capable of revving well over 7500RPM and producing more than 30hp. Ford however, even though they had this jewel of an engine, intentionally cut its ability down to 235hp or else they feared it would be faster than their Mustang GT. What a shame, I hate to see that Creative is doing the same with the MicroPhoto.
3.) Ability to record FM with the latest firmware (If this is a RIAA issue, then please provide two firmwares and two download links, one that says "United States Users" and one that says "Non-US users"
4.) Ability to control different aspects of the glowing blue LEDs. They are obviously firmware controlled and can have brightness adjusted since they glow in and out when you have it plugged into the USB cable.
5.) Make it show up on your computer as a removable disk. On all my other MP3 players, it showed up just like a flash dri've and you could drag and drop whatever you wanted onto it, and it would just play whatever files on there it could play. Here, it won't let me drag and drop anything that is copy protected or is a different file type.
I know you can set aside 4 gigs of that for this purpose, but with the size of the files and videos I transfer, it would be nice if I could use all 8 gigs. Perhaps an option to just let the whole thing show up as a removable flash dri've?
*ok... I just tried it and that seems to be working on this computer that is Windows XP SP2 with WMP, but on the school computer that was XP SP2 with WMP0, it would not allow me to do this.

I think you will find that the reason the MicroPhoto is on sale is that it is now a legacy player (it was released before anybody could play video). I doubt very much that any further improvements will be coming....
EQ does have an effect... Maybe you earphones are not working well?

• Zen microphoto-computer does not detect it, help ple

I got my zen microphoto for christmas, so i have had it less than a month. a few days ago the screen froze on me while i was looking for music to listen to. i had been listening to it for about an hour or so, the album once done and i went to get somehting else to listen to and it froze. I tried plugging it into the computer and that didn't make a diffrence. i couldn't shut it down, turn the lock on nothing. but it did make noise when touching the arrows and stuff. just didn't do anything. i let the battery go dead. then i plugged it into the computer and charged the battery. when i turned it on i got the page where you can reboot. so i rebooted and that was it. the last option of the four. it rebooted and i could listen to music, battery charges.
I notice when i plug it into the computer the little charge icon is over the battery and flashing and the battery charges but i don' tget the picture of the usb connection to the comptuer that would show up before when i plugged it in. also the computer doesn't make the little noise that it used to either when i plugged it in. zen creative says i need to plug in my device, windows media player doesn't see it either.
i tried reinstalling the creative stuff, turn off the player and take out the battery and all that, and i cleaned it (first option) and then rebooted (last option). i didn't do the two in the middle, reformating and the firmware thing.
if anyone can help me that would be great and much appreciated.
thanks-alex

snoweagle-you are the best. thank you so much. still wasn't really sure what you are talking about with the SP (service pack) stuff. but i went to downloads for zen micro and there were three options. took the first application download. downloaded it, installed it, restarted my computer...and it works. i have the docked word with the usb icon on my screen and i can open up and edit my music. (haven't tried to import something yet but i'm sure i'll be able to) i didn't know that i had to keep up with the new downloads and such. thank you so much. i was on the verge of tears...thank you and i hope you are around for awhile in case i have other questions. thank you thank you thank you-alex

• Creative Zen Microphoto 8GB hangs

Hello,
I have seen a lot of posts on the same subject here, but have not seen any resolution yet.
I am sure the story sounds familiar... hangs at "Creative" logo, I go into recovery mode, and run scan disk or format etc... They don't work. I have even left the player on "formatting" overnight until the battery drains and it never finishes, same goes for "Scanning".
I am on my 4th player now and am having the same issue again. This time the player is now out of warranty so I can't return it, and I am not paying money out of my own pocket to get this thing fixed. Please don't tell me this product is defecti've... I don't buy that excuse. And it isn't a corrupt file, because a reformat would fix that.
Once it hangs, my computer won't recognize it, so I can't even try to update the firmware or anything.
Any new updates or information on this issue? It is obviously a well documented problem...just google "Creative zen freezes" and see how any hits you get!
I am pretty disappointed with this player. I should have followed my gut instinct in the first place, and just bought an iPod. I spent a lot of money on this paper weight. Any help, advice, prayers,or donation$ (for a new iPod) would ge greatly appreciated!

Right you will need to download the latest firmware from this site.
Here is a hyperlink to where you can download the firmware:
http://uk.europe.creative.com/suppor...lect=4&x=9&y=2
You might have to put some details in.
Once you have downloaded the latest firmware just start the program up.
Plug in your Zen into the PC and then press the "Reload Firmware" button on your Zen.
You should see your computer screen pick it up.
Then you click on your PC to install firmware.
That should be it.
I hope this hel
ps.
Got any questions you have just post on this space.
I do apologise if this does not make much sence my grammer is not that brilliant.

• Zen Microphoto Media Explorer Playli

Just recently bought a Zen Microphoto Media Explorer for my wife. I have had an old Archos Jukebox for years, and like it a lot, but its kinda bulky now. Anyway, when I want to create a playlist for the Archos, I use Musicmatch Jukebox, which gives a lot of options on how ro order the songs - things like Order by artist, by album/track, shuffle randomly, etc. The Creative Mediasource organizer doesnt seem to have these options, forcing you to drag and drop your tracks one at a time is you want anything else than the order they are on the computer - not good when you have 000 songs on your player. So I guess my question is - is there an easier way to manage playlists. Am I missing something on the Creative MediaSource product? Can I use Musicmatch or Real Player (or something else) to create my playlists and then take them across to the player - I notice the playlist I have created has a 'zpl' suffix while MusicMatch is 'M3u'. Is there a plugin that would help? Any other suggestions? Thanks in advance

Does the Micro have to be running MTP/PlaysForSure to use Real for playlist management?

• Issues copying more than 47 folders to Zen MicroPhoto via Media Explo

I have had my Zen MicroPhoto for a few weeks now and not had any issues with it until now. This is really strange and may be a little confusing to understand. And yes, I do have the latest Firmware version...
I have included an image to show the organization of my music. Instead of dumping all the individual tracks into the main directory, I keep them all sorted by Artist, Album, and then the Tracks themselves.
As you can see, I have 47 folders in the root "Music" folder on my Zen MicroPhoto, but if I try copying any more into the "Music" folder, it randomly places them inside any one of the folders insidethe "Music" folder. For instance: I dragged all my music I own by The Beatles onto the Zen, but it placed The Beatles' folder in Bowling For Soup's (?). At first, when the artists were no longer showing up in the main Music folder, I thought that they were just for some reason being hidden or something... but they do infact play on my Zen MicroPhoto without any trouble. Then I was looking through my folders to sort some music and there it was: "The Beatles", sitting in my "Bowling For Soup" folder.
I do have quite a bit of knowledge about Operating Systems -- and computers in general -- but this issue has really got me... anyone else experiencing this?

P.S. I have not tried reformatting my Zen yet, but I will if I can't find a solution here.

I just Formatted All and Reloaded Firmware... seems to have fixed it for now. I will update if it occurs again.

• Zen MicroPhoto Tag/Menu H

Hey all, first post. Just bought a Zen MicroPhoto 8GB red and i've noticed something that's bothering me. Sometimes i want to browse within an artist's songs to find a particular one, but not knowing which album its in. However, in the ZMP when i click on an artist all the albums come up and therse no way to view tracks from ALL albums within the artist. Is there a way to fix this, it should be a standard feature in my opinion. It was on my Rio Carbon before i got it stolen and i used it all the time to find a particular track.
Another note, is it possible to use the ac charger from another mp3 player with the ZMP. BTW it was for the RIo Carbon, same format as I would need for the creative, has a input for the usb cable and plugs into the wall. thanks
dio

hello, Before my ZMP froze on me I built up a playlist which seems to be what you need. You need to install the Creative Zen installation CD which allows you to make a playlist so you can listen to all of the songs in your albums.
Simply install the program, and start media source organizer, and make a new playlist, then go to the songs that you want and select them en-mass if possible (i.e. s hift + click) and right click and select "add to playlist" and select the playlist you created from the drop down menu, or just drag and drop the albums you want onto the playlist so when you go to playlist on your ZMP you can open the one you made which will have all of the songs you wanted together in the same group. I used this with my old MP3 player to shuffle songs, but unfortunately my zen isn't working hence my reason for being on these forums -.-"
i've tried it on ZMP and it works fine so just AIM me on l3enwang if you have any other questions because i don't plan to check these forums very often.Message Edited by benw on 08-27-2006 0:43 AM

• (Zen MicroPhoto)FM Radio suddenly die

first than all,.. Sry for my english.
3 weeks ago I brought a Zen MicroPhoto..
The first week, all works perfect.
the second week, when I turn on the Zen, the radio won't work anymore =/ (I can't ear anything).
So.. the question is.. Why my Zen don't play radio anymore?(I don't upgrade nothing, all is just like before when I listened radio D=).
To all people who say "I brought one mp3 player, not a radio", Yeah.. I could brought one Ipod for less money and same characteristic ?.
well.. Anyone had the same problem and fixed it ?
thx.

I have a 8gb zen microphoto and the same thing happened to me. The first time I tried to use the radio and find a station it froze up on me. I removed the battery and that seemed to solve it. I have not tried since. I do not use the radio much but would like to be able if I wanted too. Thanks so much for these forums. I am a idjit when dealing with computers and electonics and have learned just from reading the message threads.

• Zen microphoto 8gb.. im shock

Hi guys!
Well i hope u can help me cause im really desperate :/
Today i connected my Zen microphoto to my car's stereo and it suddenly rebooted... i said "what the hell", but i kept listening. Some time later i reconnected the player to the stereo, again rebooted (it doesnt happen always) but this time it restarted in recovery mode. Gave me 4 options:
CLean up -- Cleans but does nothing
FOrmat ALL --Havents tried it yet (wouldnt like to try it)
Reload Firmware
Reboot --Reboots player and enters into recovery mode/menu again
So reloading firmware makes a little window appear saying "firmware is being erased" and then it just frezes. One time it finished but nothing happened, just returned to recovery menu.
I tried reloading firmware via usb but the process fails at the very end. I dont know what to do.
I read in another post something about waiting for the battery to be depleted. Im gonna try that now.
Meanwhile i would apreciate your opinions. Thnx!
Oh by the way my pc does recognize my Zen and all.Message Edited by kaji_to on 2-8-2005 08:25 AM

This happened to me the 2nd week I had mine, so I went to Best buy, almost got an iPod.... but got a new ZMP, and I am glad I did.

• Zen Microphoto Questi

I just bought the Zen Microphoto to replace my old Nomad Zen Xtra 40Gig.
The sound quality between the two is the same.
Some problems Ive been having with the Xtra is that there is a pixel or two that dies off randomly and sometimes a song restarts by itself.
I have some questions on the Microphoto...
) What is the resolution for photos/wallpapers? (60x60?)
2) Is there a way to make customs themes? (I would like to see some transparent bars. like in the top so that the top of the wallpaper isnt blocked)
3) Why cant I look at photos, while listening to music? (Doesnt it put the mp3 into a buffer/ram so it wont have to read the HD all the time to save power?)
Overall, I love Creative products and Im highly anti-apple. =)

I have another question...
When you add a track or playlist to the "Selected"...how can you look at the Selected list?
On my Nomad Zen Xtra, there is a Selected Music menu option so I can see the list of songs I want to hear..yet I can find a menu item like that in the ZMP.
After I add my playlist to the selected, and lets say I used the shuffle mode and came across a song in the middle of the playlist. Then I want to listen to a song that appears after the song that is playing right now. The way I used to do it is open up the list of selected music, scroll down once, and boom...the song I want is playing. Now, when that happens in the ZMP, I have to open the playlist, scroll all the way to middle and find that song. I know I can use the search track, but thats more tedious to scroll down and type the name.Message Edited by virus86 on 03-02-200602:38 PM
