  • Creative Zen Micro - Freezes when 'Rebuilding Library', does this spontaneous

I'll make this post short and sweet.
Yes, I have read the FAQ.
I'm just wondering, its happened to me twice now that when i turn on my zen micro, it goes straight to the rebuilding library screen, and when the bar gets to the end it just freezes. Replacing the battery does not help. Only until i attach it to my computer at home does the library finish rebuilding. And no, on both occasions the battery was not dead. I just found out now about recovery mode and disk cleanup.
Now, considering this disk cleanup fixes the problem next time it arrises, why is this problem happening in the first place? How can I avoid it from happening?
I'll probably be returning this product if I'm forced to replace the battery etc each time i want to use it.
    Sorry for my broken english

I have had a very similar problem with my 5GB Zen Micro. I have not added music to the player in weeks but during a cold boot a couple of times a week the player will not start clean, many times hanging at the end of a library rebuild.
The player is always shutdown orderly, though most of the time it's via the 4 hour firmware shutdown included in the ..0 firmware. Each time it hangs I boot to rescue mode, run a clean-up, then reboot. During the reboot it always runs a successful rebuild, so I wonder, why didn't it do that last time and why does it keep acting up when nothing has been added or deleted to the player?
One additional note, sometimes during the boot it will hang with the ZEN screen only partially displayed.
I just deleted the firmware and reloaded ..0. Hopefully this fixes it, but stay tuned for updates...
    Thanks,Doug

  • IPhoto 09 Freeze While Updating Library.....Everytime

I recently bought a Macbook Pro 15" 2.4GHz and installed iLife 09. On my previous computer (Powerbook 12" 1GHz) I was running iPhoto 2.0.1. I had copied that entire HD to an external drive. I plugged in the external drive to my new Powerbook and copied the User>Pictures>iPhoto Library Folder to appropriate location on the new HD. When starting up iPhoto 09, I got the message that it needed to update the library. Every attempt I made resulted in iPhoto freezing with the "Updating photo library...Time remaining" message. It often froze with the same amount of time remaining. I have tried several remedies: I deleted the com.apple.iphoto.plist from the preferences folder. I also tried to use BatChmod after following instructions in another forum, but that didn't seem to help. I also downloaded iPhoto Library Manager and used its rebuild function. This appeared to work and all the pictures are present (minus about thirty, but I think they were duplicates), but all 7,000+ got imported with the same date (DEC 31 2000) and were randomly arranged into about a dozen Events. Also, none of the Albums were transported. I don't have time to individually rearrange all the photos and rebuild all the albums. I would be happy solving either one of the problems. Thanks.

Thanks for responding Larry. I tried that, but unfortunately it did not work.
Based on what I read in some other threads, I tried forcing iPhoto to rebuild the library by holding command-option while starting iPhoto, but that did the exact same thing. I ended up downloading iPhoto Library Manager and using that to rebuild the library, which worked. There was one photo that could not be copied over (corrupted file or something), so that's probably what was making iPhoto hang. Luckily my mom had a backup on a CD.

  • Zen Micro Freezing While Play

My Zen Micro is my second MP3 player. My first one was a 2.5 GB Rio Nitrus. It was everything I needed it to be until it started acting funny. It froze up a few times while playing. Then I went on vacation and a week later when I got back and tried to use it, it froze again only this time it wouldn't restart correctly. I'm worried that I might be coming into a similar problem with my Zen Micro. It has never frozen until today. I hadn't used it in a week, similar to what happened when my Nitrus went on me. It paused for about 20 seconds when I was running on the treadmill, and then later, it completely froze. The only thing I could do to reset it was take the battery out of the back. It appears to be fine now but it has me worried. Is there anyone who owns a Zen and experienced similar problems and should this be something I worry about? It especially ticked me off today because I just spent $20 last night for a new holster and belt clip for it. Anyone have any input?Message Edited by diesel6304 on 0-06-2006 08:29 PM

It might be because you were running on the treadmill and you experienced "head crash", where the heads reading the HDD inside your Micro hit the HDD itself. Best to not do that. I use it on the treadmill, but I only powerwalk on the treadmill......
Oh yeah, in addition, it's normal every now and then for it to freeze (okay, not normal normal, but unless it's doing it regularly, it's not really that much to worry about). I would suggest running a disc cleanup from the recovery mode.Message Edited by RMskater on 0-06-2006 0:53 PM

  • ZEN MICRO ERROR!!! HELP NEEDED

Well, I bought a zen micro and couldn't have been happier until it started freezing at startup and all I see is the logo. The recovery mode doesn't seem to do squat for the player but it still shows up. I selected each one of the options on recovery mode individually and it says it's performing the intended task, but i come back hours later to find a bald kid with a blow dryer (no results). When starting up, I listened very carefully to the internall sounds the electronics were making; a repetiti've "wurr wurr wurr" that stops after about fifteen seconds of run time.
***ANOTHER THING*** ::: My PC doesn't detect the micro when plugged in via USB either... I suspected a firmware issue but I also need help going about all of THAT and everything else...
Any information at all would be helpful. If you need specifics in order to provide me with a solution, I'll try the snot out of me to give it to you.
It would be helpfull to have a direct "conversation" via a messenger if anyone wants to try that who might have a solution.
Thanks! < AlexMessage Edited by Hougana on 0-6-2005 07:0 AM

I had EXACTLY the same problem (including the noise that quits after 5 seconds).
The HD in your ZM is kaput (*boom*). You have to send the player in to have it replaced. Depending on your warranty status, you might ot might not have to pay for that.

  • Zen Touch: Freezing while opening data libr

In the last few months, I have been unable to get any of the files that I have saved onto my 20GB Zen tOUCH. I have tried on several computers now, but everytime I open the data library through Nomad Explorer, it freezes and I am unable to even copy and paste the folders. Any ideas/tips/help?!

Do you have drivers installed in those computers you connected your player to

  • Freezes when rebuilding library

My iphoto library is a little over 50 gbs. Its been crashing upon loading recently and its instructed me to hold command+option while I open iphoto and then go to the bottom option to rebuild the library. It loads, then after some time, my computer freezes. I've let it run overnight thinking it was just slow but nothing. I've even let it run for two days.

what version of iPhoto (there are several versions of iPhoto '11)? Of the OS?
download iPhoto Library Manager - http://www.fatcatsoftware.com/iplm/ -  and use its rebuild command - this creates a totally seperate new library leaving the existing one for future use

  • Itunes Freezes while creating library

I filled my hard drive and moved all of my files to a external hard drive. I have deleted all of my library files, and attempted to create a new library. The problem is it crashes EVERY time I do this. I have changed my destination folder, deleted old libraries, and every thing else found on the forums. I don't have any plug ins installed. I have attempted to add files back all at once and a folder at a time, but it freezes up.
Does anybody have any suggestions? Or any advice as to another program I can use to sync my Ipod and listen to music?

What finally worked for me was a suggestion a DJ friend of mine gave me. The problem is with new restrictions in iTunes 8 on audio tracks. It seems that iTunes 8 does not process mp3 files that carry coding that is less than squeaky clean (i.e. purchased or cd uploaded files). Downgrading your iTunes to version 7 will allow you to build your library-- you can upgrade back to 8 later if you need to keep your iPhone, iPod, etc. up to date with the latest software. As a preliminary step, using one of the shareware mp3 scrubbers before importing files into iTunes 7 might help avoid playback difficulties later on if you move back into iTunes 8.
I hope this helps someone else out there, the whole thing made me batty after awhile.

  • Zen micro freezes while loading firmw

Ok I got my zen micro like 3 days ago and while listening to it at school it all of a sudden froze and I coulden't even cut it off so I had to take teh battery out. When turning it on agian it wen't into recovery mode and then I did a clean disk which did nothing. So I started to do a format (I really didn't care about what was on it and I was antsy to get it to work agian). It ran out of batterys while formating so I got home and started charing it. Formating was taking to long (I waited over an hour) so I tried to reinstal the firmware. We'll it gets to the very last bar on the firmware update and it freezes, the micro stops wokring again and I have to take out the battery to get it to cut off again. I've done this like 3 times, and I tried formating two more times. I have no clue what to do, any help?
    edit...
ok after looking around some it seems that this has happened (I heard a weird noise too and I forgot to mention that, I figured it had always been there cuase its bearly noticable but....might be ralated to the problem). Seems like the best option is just to return it and get a new one. But is there something I did to cause this? only thing that I could think I possibly did to it was drop it from about 4 inches up, and it that broke it then I might want to rethink this thing, But I had droped it the day before that so I don't think that caused the problem. Also looking around these things seem to have alot of bugs. headphone jack not wokring, comp not detecting it (which I had to deal with the day I got it), and many other freezes, is this thing really worth it's do the bugs like this come with all the players?Message Edited by Nyzse on 0-3-2006 03:07 AM

Format should complete in a few seconds, so your player sounds faulty unfortunately. Contact support to get a replacement.

it's been doing this for ages.. any suggestions? It won't even load past that. Ever.

Hi, I am not sure if this will help you. I offered the same help to someone else. I had an issue where my Zen Vision M: was not recognized by my computer. I got lucky. I uninstalled all programs related to the zen. I then did a complete cleaning of the registry of all related zen vision m: instances. After that I reloaded all the software and when I hooked it up to my pc it recognized it. I am thinking something corrupts the computer. Like many other porgrams, even after a uninstall, a program may leave references in the registry. I used regseeker which is a free program. It does a great search for items left behind by programs. You can find it by doing a Google search. Or you can always use the regedit/run command in XP. As for your search I would obviously try "zen micro". I would stay away from using "creative", if you have any other creative product like a soundblaster you will have to sift through many entries if you do. After cleaning the registry, install the zen micro programs and hook it up and see what happens. I hope it works for you. Even though my was a Zen Vision M: I also had much the same problem including the firmware reload problem, the rebuiding library etc.Cas

  • Crash while rebuilding library + possible solution

because i had a very slowly responding aperture i went through all the comments on what to do, and in the end i deleted the cache files, defragged my hard disk and rebuild the library (using the aperture startup rebuild dialog)
while it was doing the rebuilding of the library it crashed over and over after going through a few hours of rebuilding.
i found out that my backup client to carbonite was the reason (still no excuse for aperture to crash) so i switched off the backup for a while, let the rebuild finish and switched it back on again.
just posting this so if other people have the same problem to check switch off their backup clients (time machine is alright i noticed) and try again.
oh, and it also did fix my unresponsive aperture.
    cheers,
    tom

Just an upgrade. The problem is that when I click on the install button and later skip there is a screen that says:
    Install Failed
Mac OS X could not be installed on your computer
The Installer encountered an unknown error that failed the install.
Contact the software manufacturer for assistance.
Click restart to restart your computer and try installing again.
Any way to resolve this problem (such as commands in the terminal-mode etc.)?

  • Zen xtra problem - not rebuilding library ful

I had taken my battery out and when i put it back in the library started to rebuild as normal. however the bar that shows its rebuilding progress only went about 3/4s of the way across. it then went straight to the menu. there is about 50 albums missing. these are albums i've loaded over the last month. i think theyre still on there somewhere because the memory is at the same amount as before. i really want these albums back as i dont own them and wont be able to reload them. Ive tried resetting but its still the same. Ive also tried getting to the recovery mode menu but thats not even showing up. has anyone else had this problem?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Try a disk cleanup again. I would make sure you're connected to the mains adapter as cleanup can be a little battery consuming.

  • After updating to most recent version, everything not purchased through store has disappeared from my iTunes library, HELP NEEDED ASAP!!!

I purchased a new laptop in August, running Windows 8 and spent hours importing every CD we own (over 300) to my iTunes library in order to get rid of them and declutter a little. I have had to run iTunes in a compatibility mode set for an older version of Windows in order to sync our iPods, as it doesn't work with Windows 8. A pain but not a major problem.....however, this morning I have updated iTunes and everything that hasn't been purchased through the store has now vanished from my library. Can anyone help me find the rest of my music please?

    You're welcome.
Take a look at the backup technique I mention for the future.

  • Errors while rebuilding library: Master images found in data folders.

After an upgrade that wreaked havoc on my iPhoto library, I'm now using iPhoto Library Manager to rebuild the library based on a recommendation by Terence.
Out of 5000+ photos, the error log showed about 360 missing images. But when I searched inside the iPhoto library package, I found virtually all of the supposedly missing images, sometimes in what appeared to be the correct place, and sometimes in data folders. (And yes, the images in the data folders were the full-size images, not thumbnails.)
Two questions: Is there some known issue that would scatter image files into the wrong folders like this? And is there some way to have either iPhoto or iPhoto Library Manager seek and import out these misplaced images? When I did the rebuild, I selected the "scavenge" option, but that obviously didn't find everything.
    Thanks.

No - iPhoto has no ability to move an image nor does IPLM
No idea how you situation occured - it has never been reported here - most like is user action but no way to know
and no neither iPhoot nor IPLM can find and import those imagesI sugget going back to the backup from before the upgrade and looking at the library - if things are in the right places - rebuild the older library with IPLM and then upgrade it

It just DOES NOT turn on. At all. And i've tried syncing it with itunes, but it doesn't pick it up, I have a feeling it may have something to do with the fact that it's got chunks missing and there was a leak in my bag so water may have gotten to it.
