Zen Mirco recording prob

Hi I?m using my Zen Micro to record my study lesson once a week. Found out 2 strange problems, after I?ve played my saved record.
<SPAN>)<SPAN> Every 0-20 minutes interval, it halts for -2 sec (no sound) and continue to play. My record file is about hr plus.
<SPAN>2)<SPAN> Something it output sound give me a weird noise from the background but in reality there isn?t any noise as far i?m aware.
Current FW version is .02.05.
What could be the problem? Please advice.
Thanks.

The halting is interesting. I remember a problem before, with one of the MuVos I think, where it seemed to be reaching a buffer point then saving to memory causing a similar momentary blip. I've not tried recording yet with my Micro.

My zen mirco have this filmware problem, this is the second time i am having this problem, i did update the filmware for both time but i don't know why i have this problem, i don't this problem to keep appearing, my friend doesn't seem to have this problem yet. Pls help......

If you get firmware problem very frequently, 3 or more times, I would say the player is faulty. My guess is that a faulty hard disk causes the firmware problem message to appear, although it can appear rarely through some form of hard disk corruption.
I would try reloading the firmware and formatting the player. If it happens after this, then contact Support.

  • Backing Up Zen Mirco- Huge Prob

When I try to back up my Zen Micro in media source to a folder, everything is duplicated! First it transfers the mp3s in order of artist, then it transfers the mp3s in alphabetical order! (For example, my Rush CD is transfered, then the individual mp3s are listed later. It says that I have 448 files, but there are only 9 when I delete the duplicates, and some mp3s won't transfer (My AFI albums, Black Sabbath, Coheed and Cambria).
I am trying to install firmware, but I cannot do it without first backing up my hard dri've! What is wrong with this?

My advice would be to start over. It should only copy one set of tracks, assuming you're doing a normal transfer. There's a thread here on how to backup the player.

  • Zen Mirco loading prob

I just bought my Zen Micro yesterday. I was very excited and hurried home to start downloading to my Zen. After I loaded all of the software and everything, I tried to transfer mp3's to the device and most of them would not transfer because it said that I did not have a liscence to transfer or something of the sort. I know that if I did not PURCHASE the song, it would not transfer, but I am sure there is a way around this. Can someone please let me know how?

Well I'm sure they were illegal if they were downloaded off of Limewire for free.
Discussing illegal music here will most likely get the thread locked, just to warn you. Not by me though, I'm not a moderator on this board, and I don't work for Creative.
I was trying to transfer them with the Creative software.
I think we need a little more info. Exactly what software you were using, how you were going about it, what the files are (MP3 or WMA) and what errors appear.
Do you think that there would be a problem if I transferred my CDs to the computer and then to my MP3 player? How would you go about doing that?
Very easy. Just rip the CD direct to the player using MediaSource. There are more complex ways if you're after very high fidelity ri

Would I have to subscribe to somewhere like Napster to be able to download files and transfer them?
If you want to get music from an online store, yes.

  • Transfer recordings from Zen Mirco to

Hello. I've had my Zen Micro for about nine months now, and I've been pleased with the player overall despite it freezing up a few months back and me sending my old player back and getting it replaced.
    But anyway to my question:
I've used my Zen Mirco to record some audio using the built in microphone, and now I need to get it onto my computer. When the player is plugged in, I see it in Windows Explorer and I can see the wav file that was recorded, but I'm unable to do anything with the file except delete it; I can't move it onto my computer, which is where I want it.
Is there any way to get the recorded file from the player onto my computer?
    Thanks,
    Billy.

hi dude, just bought my micro zen so not sure about this, but i noticed that when i copy the mp3 files and i disconnect and reconnect it, i cant see the files of my zen micro in the explorer, but i start to copy other mp3 to micro zen, all my files suddenly show up, maybe you can try that.

  • Zen mirco question..H

I was thinking about buying a zen mirco 5GB but not of some stuff..
If i copy a cd to my computere i can put it onto my mirco right, very simple and easy i assume? And it says 250 songs MP3 and WMA 2500 songs, what is WMA? does it sound worse? how would you convert mp3 to it's Thanks

adam234 wrote:I was thinking about buying a zen mirco 5GB but not of some stuff.. If i copy a cd to my computere i can put it onto my mirco right, very simple and easy i assume?
It's a case of starting the Creative software, putting the CD in the PC, then encoding it onto the player. There are other methods also.
And it says 250 songs MP3 and WMA 2500 songs
Don't let the marketing blurb fool you too much. This is 250 MP3 songs at 28kbit/s, and 2500 WMA songs at 64kbit/s.
MP3s at 28kbit/s do not equal WMAs at 64kbit/s, despite Microsoft (the inventors of WMA) saying so.
Also MP3s at 28kbit/s might not even be to your liking in quality terms. I would recommend encoding at 92kbit/s, but if you want to take the time then try different bit-rates for yourself and see what you prefer.
Music encoding is a huge topic, and there's plenty to learn about it. For example using other programs and encoders, which may give you a better result than Creative's software.
what is WMA? does it sound worse? how would you convert mp3 to it's Thanks
WMA as mentioned is by Microsoft (Windows Media Audio). It's basically Microsoft's answer to MP3, only it offers things like licensing which is very appealing to Online Music Stores.
Converting between compressed digital music formats (transcoding) is a bad idea, as they all use a different method to compress. The more you convert and compress the more quality you lose. It's always best to encode direct from the CD.

  • Zen Mirco Format

    Hello,
I bought a new computer over the summer and I wanted to setup my zen mirco with the new computer. I decided to format the micro so that I could put new music on it and what not. I ended up deleting the firmware, so now when it loads up it says:
    "Firmware Problem"
then immediately into a menu that has these options:
    . Clean up
    2. Format All
    3. Relaod Firmware
    4. Reboot
so far, I have tried each of those options, reloaded the drivers onto my computer, reloaded the software that came with the player, and downloaded a new firmware and tried reloading it onto the player.
    any suggestions?
    thanks!

Yes, I have tried everything from resetting to reformating and still the problem remians. I don't know what could have happened to it. It was working perfectly until this somehow happened. Has anyone else recieved this problem? Thanks.

  • Zen xtra recording from line

hi,I have been loading my new
nomad Zen Xtra with my CD collection, going great once I got the hang of it {novice here} now I would like to load onto the `Zen` my old tape collection, this is where I am having a big problem,I make connection as follows
---plug into the ear phone jack socket of my tape player
--plug the other end into line in on the PC
    --set the recorder going.........timer works
--can hear music through the speakers......appears to go my music ect........
-- when I sellect play back ...there is nothing.. no sound although the play slider moves
    --tried different players....all the same
--does any one know what I am doing wrong ?
--has any one had same probs?
I am using Creative Media sorce organizer to do the transfer
    frustrated Ron...................

hi every body, thanks for all the advice:--------------
the problem was the player that I was using to send to pc did not have a strong enough signal for the pc to reconise, athough I could hear it ok on the head phones, and also on the pc speakers, the recorder could not "hear it "tried other leads no good
then I used my large radio cassett player and it worked,
so I`m happily transfering my cassett music to the Zen,what a task the tagging is.
This will be repeated when I do my old L.P collection,we don`t know how lucky we are with the CD with all the info on.
    regards Ron

  • Zen Micro Recording with built-in microph

    Hi,
is there any way i can adjust the recording volume of the microphone built in the zen micro?
and is there any way i can record using my own microphone instead of the built-in one?
    thanks..

The answer to both those questions is no. You get what you get with the built in mic.

I don't know. I'm nothing to do with Creative. You'd need to contact their customer support people for India:

  • ZEN MICRO PLAYBACK PROB

I have some mp3 files of uni'versity lectures. They were recorded/ encoded? at
    6 kb
    ps.
When I try to play them on the Zen Micro they play too slow, like an LP playing at the wrong speed.
They sound fine on WMP0 or Real Player. I have also played these files on 3 other mp3 players and they sound fine on them. Any ideas?

You'll need to reencode them at a supported rate. I have a suspicion it's the bit-rate being too low, but also check the sampling frequency.
