Zen Nano Boot Prob

I think this player has an issue with the size of MP3s. I regularly load and listen to fairly large MP3 podcasts, 50-70 MB per file. Just the other day the player was acting like it had a dead battery, it would shut itself off and then when attemping to boot up again it would say "Creative", then "Zen Nano..", the it would shut off again.
I tried a few new batteries and got the same response. Occasionally it would boot and start playing, but as soon as I changed tracks it would shut off again.
It seems I finally fixed it by deleting one of the large MP3s. Player appears to be back to normal now.
I also noticed that some large MP3s have intermittent problems when trying to skip over them. The player will stop responding for a few seconds. This doesn't happen all the time.
Anyway, maybe you guys should look into your firmware and see if there is anything that can be optimized. There's someone else on this board that complained about the same thing. Thanks.
EDITED to say that the problem is back. The fix only lasted for a few hours. There is definitely something wrong with this player... Please check your firmware for bugs, thanks.Message Edited by mocha on 2-23-2005 05:0 PM

Well I guess no one cares or never had this problem, but I can say that now after I loaded the latest firmware the player is back to normal. I don't understand why the firmware would get corrupted but in any case it works now.

  • My zen nano plus prob

I uploaded the holy bible audio in my Zen nano plus mp3 I bought three days ago. totally 66 folders, but can only show up 38 folders, new testament 2, old testament 7, I try to delete, format, and upload again, the problem is still here.
two friends met the same problem. one is the zen nano, the one is the <FONT color=#333333>Muvo TX FM.
If any body have the same problem before, thanks a lot for your gus help.

There is a maximum number of folders supported by the players and it depends on the firmware version. It varies between 50 and 60 folders including the automatically created folders such as Encoded Tracks and Recorded Tracks.
This also includes high level folders without files in them - if you had an NT folder with 20 folders in it and an OT folder with 30 folders in it then that would be 52 folders not 50. The last ones alphanumerically are ignored.

  • Zen Nano music prob

i just bought a Zen Nano yesterday and i downloaded my songs on to it but the thing is now when i play some of those songs about 20 secs in the player turns off... this happends with like 5 out of 0 tracks on my player... please someone help me.

It only happens with some songs? If it is a small percentage of the songs, then those files might be defecti've. If so, then delete the defecti've files from the player. If it is a large percentage of the songs, then see below.
First try a different battery. If that doesn't help, then reload the firmware. You can download the firmware from here.
    http://us.creative.com/support/downloads/
If that doesn't work, then you might have gotten a defecti've player so then exchange the player.

'Have you managed to put any songs onto your player at all?' I copied about 40 onto it in one go and it only copied on 20 or so before saying one of the songs directories cannot be created.
'Is your player recognised by Media Explorer, Windows Media Player and MediaSource?'
    yes by all 3
'Does it appear with its own dri've letter in Windows Explorer?' yes

  • Zen micro, booting prob

I've got a problem with my zen micro
I listened to it a whole day, and my battery was very low, so when i came home, the zen wastn playing anymore due to the low battery.
i plugged it in on the usb cable, but all i see is the booting screen showing the creative logo with under that copyright 2004 Creatives Technology Ltd All Right Reserved.
I already tried to format(remove the battery, turn the switch to the left and insert the battery, the thing doesnt do anything) and installing some new firmware didnt workin, because I got the error message saying the player wasnt connected
does anyone know a solution to my problem?

If the Zen is not starting properly or not behaving correctly, first try to reset it. To reset all players except for the Zen Micro there is a small switch on the side of the player typically, that you should press using something like a bent paper clip. Don't use anything sharp. To reset the Zen Micro simply remove the battery and replace it.
If this doesn't work then access rescue mode, and try running a disk cleanup.
Next you should try reloading the firmware/OS, but beware if you are having connection problems also with your PC you may end up with a player that has no firmware and cannot be reloaded.
The last resort is to format the player. This will erase the contents from the player, including the content that ships with the player.
    The battery trick didnt work
rescue mode can't be accesed, so clean up and format arent possible
and the firmware reloader told me that the player wasnt connected to the computer, so that function didnt worked out
Guess i go to the shop where i bought it...

  • Zen Micro Boot prob

My Zen Micro doesn't start up properly. I take out the Battery and reinsert it to reset it and it rebuilds the tracks but after that it hangs and one second of music starts playing and then i get ths awful screech. This is happening everytime I start up the Player.

at this point it would probably be a sound time to boot up the recovery system(should be in the manual). If that doesnt work i would contact customer support.

  • Bug Boot Zen Nano P

    Hi,
I have a Zen Nano Plus that won't start any more. When I plug it on USB I see the logo on the screen and I can acces to the memory.
I try the recovery mode, update the firmware (version .0.03): everything goes fine and it says that the update is done. But after updating the mp3 player doesn't still want to start and when I see the details I have :
    Current Version
    - BOOT manager 0.00.00
    - Host link .0.03
    - Player .0.03
    - Ressource Manager .0.03
    Upgrade Version :
    - BOOT manager 0.00.00
    - Host link .0.03
    - Player .0.03
    - Ressource Manager .0.03
Why the Boot manager did not update? Is it why my player doesn't want to start anymore?
    Thank you.

Is DapJukeBox still acti've? I get a foriegn language web page, or is that it's
Why doesn't Creative Labs deal with this?
This is crazy - I have a brand new ZEN NANo Plus, never even loaded a single song on it yet. Checked for updates and the update hoses my boot manager.

  • Zen Nano Plus - Used Battery vs. New Battery Prob

I downloaded some WMA files from Walmart.com and successfully transferred them to my Zen Nano Plus. They played fine. But the battery, which was already low on power, died. I switched in a new battery and tried playing WMA files, but they would only play for about three seconds before the mp3 player shut off.
I switched back in the old battery and the WMA files played just fine.
Both the old and new battery play the MP3 files, so there's no problem there.
Is the problem related to voltage or something? Please help.

    Known issue, check [url="http://forums.creative.com/creativelabs/board/message?board.id=dap&message.id=40235&view=by_date _ascending&page=">this thread[/url].
    No solution yet, I'm afraid.

  • Zen Nano Plus transfer prob

Am having trouble transferring .wma files to my Zen Nano Plus even though it has 590MB free. When I try to transfer anything using Creative Source I keep getting a "transfer error" message. Have tried reorganising files into folders to cut down on memory used in the root folder - but it doesn't seem to help. It's even stopped letting me transfer between folders. Has anyone else had this problem.. Anyone know what to do??

I'm having the exact same problem with my Nano Plus, and I've only had it for a little over 3 months. I contacted technical support and they told me to download the Firmware update and gave me these directions:
    Zen Nano Plus Firmware Update:
    http://uk.europe.creative.com/support/downloads/download2.asp?Product=2720&dlcentric=9423&Product_ Name=ZEN+Nano+Plus&OSName=Windows+XP
To install this firmware upgrade, do the following:
    - Connect your player to your computer.
    - Double-click the firmware upgrade file.
    - When prompted to set your player in Recovery mode, disconnect your player from your computer.
    - Press and hold the Play button while connecting your player to your computer's USB port.
    - Continue to hold the Play button for about 0 seconds after connecting your player to your computer.
    - Release the Play button when the "Find New Hardware" dialog box appears on the computer screen.
    - Follow the instructions on the screen to install recovery drivers for your player.
    - Double-click the firmware upgrade file and follow the instructions on the screen. Ensure to select the "Format Data Area" option within the Update.
However, at step 6 my computer did not recognize my player with it being on and neither did the Firmware. I responded to Technical Support and told them this. They said it seemed like it needed repaired or replaced! Even though there is a -year warranty, there is only a 3 month labor warranty, which means if you send it in to get fixed and it has passed the 3-month labor warranty, you have to pay a $24.95 diagnostics and handling fee. If you're in this situation, they said the best thing to do is try to exchange it wherever you bought it first. I hope this helps!

  • Zen Nano book transfer prob

I am having problems transferring my downloaded library books. They won't go from my Creative Organizer on to my Zen Nano. I am getting an error message when I start the transfer. Can this be a problem with my Nano Plus or with the computer software I feel confident that it downloaded to my computer without a problem, because I can play the books on the computer. Have I used up my Nano & need to replace it's Can I reload anything that could help ?

Your message is blank tictocs, but I recomend you right click the icon (media source blue arrow icon, windows media player red, yellow, green, blue arrow circle) and select "send to" from the drop down, then the Nano from that drop down.

Have tried to download drivers and software for Zen Micro. When I try to run it though, it does not install because it says that I do not have device connected. Have erased everything off of Zen Micro, but have not reformatted. When I attach Zen Micro to PC, Zen Micro displays "booted" & PC displays "Zen Micro" for a second or two, then switches to "MTP Device"?. Do I need to erase everything from the Zen Nano Plus first?2. What do you think my next step should be?Thx???

  • Cant format/scandisk Zen nano p

    Hello
I'm from Italy. I have a Zen Nano plus Giga since month and it worked well, till now.
Today I disconnected it while transferring a file and the flash memory was corrupted. My firmware is .3.05e and I never tried to update it.
I have Windows98-SE with media storage drivers _07_00_250 downloaded from this site because, even if the box says "win98 compatible" the installation CD refused to run because "this software cant run on windows98" (?!?)
The problem is I cant reformat the player, nor use the scandisk to fix it. In both cases, windows hangs during the operations. I have tried this on 3 different computers, all of them have win98 (with creative drivers) giving the same results. In the past, all of these computers were used to write and read files into the player without problems...
The manual says a driver is needed to format ZEN using win 98, but I think it's talking about the same drivers to read/write the player I'm already have, I'm right?
Also, notice the "format" panel in win98 doesn't let user select the format type (there aren't the voices FAT, FAT32 ecc)
    What can I do? Tanks.
    Alberto.

    I returned it...
I changed it with a Packard Bell Giga FM... just to discover it's near the same machine!
Yes, outside they may look different and the display is very different.
But functions (and defects) are the same:
    Let's compare them... They have:
    -both 20 preset for radio.
-both the FM radio recording capability AS A 4 BIT WAV (what a strange coincidence...)
-both a Equalizer who works with mp3 songs but NOT with the radio.
-both the same system to skip folders
-both a build-in microphone with the same two folders to keep wav files
-both act like as memory pen using the same manner
-both have exactly the same way to update the firmware
...and there are a lot of other coincidences...
Most of all, looking at the Packard Bell support forum, I discover a place very similiar to this, with people facing EXACTLY the same problems like here: the player shut-off on the boot, OR the memory cant read/write OR the player was "killed" during a firmware update.
After some research, I discovered the reason for this.
Creative, Packard Bell (and most of brands, I think) are using the EXACTLY THE SAME mp3 chip made in China. This chip incorporate all the functions you need, you have only to add a nice box around adding the display and the mass memory you prefer... the chinese software is complete: you only need to add a menu to show (or hide, i'm afraid) the functions of this chip...
I'm afraid people waiting for "open source" or waiting for significati've improvements in firmware will wait forever...because the seller don't owns the real core of the firmware, as you see...
Also, people always asking "who sounds better" will be happy to know they all sound well in the same manner
Compared with other players, the NANO looks "cool" and have the "line-in" function carried out... And this is all, folks!
...if only they let me to restore the original firmware I was happy to keep my NANO, but I need the radio recording and the new firmware removes it...
    what a pity...
    Bye and greetings from Italy,
    Alberto.

  • Zen Nano Plus wont play for more than 5 seconds at a ti

I recently bought a new Creative Zen Nano Plus and thought I was getting a good reliable product. It synced in WMP like it should but when I unplugged it from my computer and tried to listen to the songs it will boot up and start playing a song but then shut off 3 seconds later. I formatted it and updated the firmware and drivers on the player and my computer but it still wont play for more than a few seconds at a time. I tried changing the battery and leaving it plugged in but neither of the above worked. I would appreciate some help. Thanks.

Same issue with me - only mine won't even power on now...
I am waiting on reply from customer support...

  • Zen Nano Plus bricked by Recovery Tool?

Re: Books on Cd I went ahead and attempt to install the latest firmware upgrade. At this time the upgrade seems to be progressing.
Okay. The player has successfully booted up
Success. After removing Windows Media Player , I was able to install the latest firmware upgrade. I have several follow-up questions. Most important question is #
. I wonder why the Zen Micro Media Explorer is not available to me. It is all grayed out. Any suggestions on how to get it to work
    2. Is the Zen Micro Media Explorer a logical substitute to employing the Windows Media Player 0 It seems to have everything I need .
    3. How am I able to create a new playlist in the device if I cannot access this application
    4. When I select Playlist on the device, I see a message that says: To create a playlist select from the Now Playing context menuWhat is that all about and where do I roam to do this
Thanks very much for your help
Richard One of my new Zen Nano Plus appears to have been bricked by my use of the Recovery Tool, when it was misbehaving. This happended before with another Zen Nano Plus we had, but we fixed that over a year ago and it works fine now.
Actuallly, it's one of 6 my family has - plus we have lots of other Creative products (a Micro, Zen, Vado, X Mod etc). While its almost brand new, its was purchased on eBay in 2008.
Usually the first thing is to update the firmware, and tried the Recovery Tool hoping it had been updated - but now my Zen Nano Plus dows not turn on or get connected, and I tried to PCs and several USB cords and various USB connections.
I undertand a Zen Nano Plus does not have a Recovery Mode but did try usual method.
. Remove the battery, and press & hold the Play button will connectiong to the PC.
    2. Keep pressing play for about 0 second until the New Hardware Wizard starts - that will only happen the first time.
    3. Completete the New Hardware Wizard
I believe it may need to be reformatted, but is not totally bricked and can be repaired.
