Zen Nano Plus volume not work

About 3 months ago the button used to increase the volume on my player became stuck and wouldn't work. Since then I've been especially careful not to press the "decrease volume" button on my player. Unfortunately, today my luck ran out because while it was in my pocket the button got pressed and the volume has gone all the way down to 0 and I can't get it to go back up manually. I was wondering if there is a way for me to fix the volume via the software that came with the player or if I need to have it fixed. (That or throw it out since Creative doesn't have a phone number for technical support like a decent technological company). Thanks for any help!

• ZEN Nano Plus 1Gb Not Recognised, but 256Mb Works F

HI all, I've searched the FAQ but can't find anything like the problem I'm experiencing here.
I purchased a 256Mb Zen Nano Plus for my son at Christmas, and a Gb Zen Nano Plus for my wife. The 256Mb unit installed perfectly, works perfectly, no issues.
However the Gb unit does not install correctly - Windows XP SP2 recognises it as a Creative unit, although it takes an age for it to recognise the disk dri've. It appears in device manager as a generic storage volume with no drivers installed, and does not appear under My Computer - I can't even tell what firmware version is installed.
I've installed the correct drivers from Creative Technical Support. Have also tried to update the firmware, but the updater cannot find the Gb unit connected to the system.
After trying various driver updates on my own PC, uninstalling the software, reinstalling, Creative support suggested it's faulty and I should get a replacement.
Well the replacement arri'ved today and it has EXACTLY the same problems - can anyone help or advise?
Thanks in advance,
BT68

Arcl, I haven't a clue what's happening - have spent the best part of 5 days fiddling and installing/reinstalling. As you say, the drivers for the 256Mb and Gb are exactly the same, so why one unit should work perfectly and the larger unit refuse to work at all, I have no idea.
As stated elsewhere it appears to be some sort of compatibility issue, but I've tried it without ANY other USB devices connected, have updated my USB and Chipset drivers, and it's got me nowhere. Looks like I'll be getting a refund and going for a Sony player similar to my own, as although the software's clunky I know at least it works and is pretty much hassle-free.
Why does it seem to be a problem with the Gb units though? Both cadman and Nespa in the other thread are experiencing issues with the units, I assume they're Gb too?

• Zen Nano Plus Volume Trou

I have a Zen Nano Plus, and for some strange reson the 'volume up' button won't work, yet the 'volume down' button will. I pressed the 'volume down' button too many times, however, and now the volume is on 0. I can press 'volume up' all I want, yet nothing happens. I would appreciate some help, because I really want to listen to my tunes.

It could be a hardware fault as BaconBits suggests but it might be a firmware glitch. Try reloading the firmware. Even if it is hardware then the firmware reload will set the player back to a default volume setting - at least then you can use it.
You can get the latest version from the Creative Downloads pages or version .03.02 from DAPJukebox. Try to load the same version as you already have to save any other problems. Backup your music to your PC first.

• Zen Nano Plus will not play all trac

My Nano Plus will not playback all tracks installed. My Firmware has been updated to .0.03I have formated the Nano Plus via Windows Explorer.
Tracks have been transferred via Windows Media Player 0 AND Creative MediaSource Organizer 3.30.2 with the same problem. The NanoPlus Mass
Storage Driver has been updated, too. I have tried it on both a desktop AND a notebook PC. The transferred tracks are combinations of WMA and MP3. Both played and unplayed tracks are a combination of
WMA-protected, WMA-nonprotected, and MP3, 28/59/60/92kbps -
nothing unique about the tracks that will not play.
The tracks have either been ripped from my audio CDs or downloaded via Media Player MSN Music store or MP3 store. I have licensed all tracks and they all play via Windows MediaPlayer and Creative MediaSource Player from my hardri've.
All tracks show up on the Zen Nano Plus in windows explorer and will play from the NanoPlus via Media Player and Creative MediaSource player, but they will not all play through the NanoPlus.
All problem tracks (if transferred via
MediaSource) will either be skipped or the NanoPlus will pause when the NanoPlus is playing or they simply are not
visible (if transferred via MediaPlayer0).
The problem tracks are not always the same tracks after I have re-transferred them (I have tired 4
times to clean/re-transfer tracks). I have 8 tracks and only 36 will play. When transferred via Windows MediaPlayer0, the tracks are organized into multiple folders. When transferred via Creative MediaSource, they are all in the root directory.
What can I do to get this to work properly?

That may be it!
My tracks have been transferred with WMP0 into the following Folder structure:
MUSIC-AUTHOR-ALBUM-Tracks.
In Explorer/MediaSource, there is One MUSIC folder containing 65 AUTHOR folders containing 74 ALBUM folders containg 85 Tracks.
My Zen Nano Plus MENU-MUSIC display shows only 3 Folders -- 3 ALBUM Folders of 36 Tracks -- the tracks that do playback.
Is this just an organizational problem?
If so, it's not very handy to Sync....there is nothing in the manual that explains this!
I'll re-organize and see.
What is the best FOLDER structure to use?

I suggest a thread that logs the problems with respect to each device.

• Zen Nano Plus Volume (I know this is not n

The problem of the minimum volume of /25 being too loud for many still exists. I would like to ask if it is possible to reverse this glitch even if a new firmware if released? Or does the mp3 player, being a flash player mean that once it's done, it's irreversible?
I know many have suggested finding external volume control means. However, I'm having a horrid time searching for such ear phones. Most of which are cheap ,of low quality and with this specific feature needed, my choice of earphones are greatly restricted. I notice that the creative ,other better brand earphones and those expensi've ones do not include this external volume control system probably because the quality of the sound will be affected.
Volume control cables are an option too. However, the quality as mentioned earlier, would drop too. In addition, it's such a chore. I don't know what can be done to solve this problem, but I'm definately not satisfied after the change happened.
Any help is appreciated, thanks.

All
OK, I have just reverted my N200 back to the latest f/w (.20.04) with the 0-25 volume scale and have twice managed to get it to go back to an earlier f/w (.2.0) with the 0-40 volume scale.
Before doing the following ensure that you can consistently connect your player to your PC in Recovery Mode. You must have pre-installed the drivers from your CD or the website and connect the player while holding the Play button. Keep the button held until the New Hardware Wizard starts (if this is the first time into Recovery Mode) or you get the USB icon appear in the System Tray. If you get the USB icon, click on it and it should say "HI SPEED USB device attached to non-HI SPEED USB hub". Click Close on this window.

Check that you are in Recovery Mode by looking in Device Manager - it should show as Player Recovery Device and not as your normal player's entry such as N200 USB Device.

If you can't connect in Recovery Mode then investigate that first before continuing.

If you have any programs that start when you plug in your player, such as MediaSource, then disable them from starting (Tools, Settings, Detector in MediaSource). This step seems to be quite important as it stops your device from being detected half-way through the upgrade process - I think this is what was causing me problems before.

Connect your player in Recovery Mode as outlined above.

Run the earlier f/w file (.2.0 or earlier for the N200 have the 0-40 scale).

The Searching for Devices box should show - wait and do not press Cancel.

You should then get "Media State Not Initialized" - click OK.

Check the Format Data Area box and say Yes to the next window.

Press Start - the upgrade should start with Allocating Tables and then continue.

When Complete is displayed press Close.

Player should now have earlier f/w on it with 0-40 volume scale.

So, in the end, it was quite a simple procedure to get back to the 0-40 volume scale. Remember that you will lose any enhancements to the f/w such as support for 3 levels of sub-folders and Thai language support so you have to make a choice on what is most important to you.
For the Nano Plus you can try version %20Firmware%20.03.02].03.02. Not sure if this was 0-40 though.
For the TX FM you can try .5.0.

• NEW Zen Stone Plus does not work

It looked like it started to charge, but then it just died and Windows does not detect the dri've. I have tried hooking it up to another computer but no go!
I've tried all the troubleshooting on the page and nothing seems to work, it's just completely dead even though it's brand new. I wasn't even able to upload songs to it.
any tips? or should I just send the player back? The problem is that I am in Iceland and bought it in Toronto, Canada so I would like to try everything before sending it.
thanks in advance!

I used these instructions and got all the way to reloading the firmwear. Then it said to restart the comp and I did and after that nothing! What am I doing wrong?
Hi everyone
There is a Recovery Mode for the flash-memory players although it is different from the Rescue Mode for the HDD players - that is used for carrying out maintenance operations on the player but Recovery Mode for the flash-memory players is just a different way of connecting your player to your PC when it won't normally connect, for example, when the firmware has become corrupted and the player won't start and isn't recognised by the PC. It is in fact a way of communicationg directly with the STMP3500 chipset that these players use without needing any additional firmware.
Creative themselves called it Recovery Mode - it was first seen when Creative posted the instructions for a previous firmware upgrade that could not be run when connected normally. For the N200 it was in the instructions to upgrade to version .5.0.
Here's a line from the instructions for the latest N200 firmware upgrade, v.20.04:
When prompted to set your player in Recovery mode, disconnect your player from your computer.
Here are the instructions:
. Download and install the Mass Storage Drivers from the website.
2. Press and hold the Play button while connecting your player to the PC. If you have a one-piece player then remove the battery first.
3. Keep pressing Play until the New Hardware Wizard starts - this will only happen the first time you put your player into Recovery Mode.
4. Complete the New Hardware Wizard.
To check that you are in Recovery Mode open Device Manager (right-click My Computer and choose Properties, then the Hardware tab and Device Manager) and look for a Player Recovery Device entry.
When in Recovery Mode you can reload the firmware.

How exactly do you do this? I checked this out tonight - when I logged onto my PC using my son's Limited User account (XP Home, BTW) I could connect his N200 and see it in Device Manager and Windows Explorer but both Creative pieces of software (CMS and N200 Media Explorer) did not see that it was there!
I tried setting the Run As... properties for the CTMS.exe file to run as one of the Admin user accounts but kept getting an error about being unable to find a specific file (which is in the Media Explorer folder!). When I went back to using the current user the error stopped. Perhaps I need to set the Run As.. options on that file as well?
As we don't use DRM'd music this isn't going to be a problem but it would be good to find out the cause of this once and for all.

• Zen Nano Plus: weird hissing sou

Hello friends! I checked the FAQ and did a bit of searching but I couldn't find any resolutions to my problem. Hopefully someone can help me out here, if it is possible. (Also, sorry if this has already been asked before, I must have missed it!)
So, I recently got a zen nano plus and it works like a charm, except for one thing. I saw this mentioned somewhere before but I can't remember what the user did to solve this problem. The thing is, whenever the backlight is turned on, there is this weird hissing sound. As soon as the light turns off, it disappears. I hope you know what I mean... is there any way to fix this? It's really annoying when you are listening to a slower song and are changing the settings at the same time etc.
I updated the firmware but I am still having this problem... (see, I donno if that would actually fix such a problem, but at least I tried!)
I appreciate any help I can get

"The thing is, whenever the backlight is turned on, there is this weird hissing sound. As soon as the light turns off, it disappears."
It is most noticeable with 6 ohm earphones and a low volume. I use 32 ohm earphones and rarely if ever hear the noise on my n200(basically the player as the Nano Plus). You could try 32 ohm earphones, or else if the noise really bothers you you could set the backlight time to zero and disable the backlight. A firmware update won't change things, as it is due to the hardware, not the software.

• Zen Nano Plus bricked by Recovery Tool?

Re: Books on Cd I went ahead and attempt to install the latest firmware upgrade. At this time the upgrade seems to be progressing.
Okay. The player has successfully booted up
Success. After removing Windows Media Player , I was able to install the latest firmware upgrade. I have several follow-up questions. Most important question is #
. I wonder why the Zen Micro Media Explorer is not available to me. It is all grayed out. Any suggestions on how to get it to work
2. Is the Zen Micro Media Explorer a logical substitute to employing the Windows Media Player 0 It seems to have everything I need .
3. How am I able to create a new playlist in the device if I cannot access this application
4. When I select Playlist on the device, I see a message that says: To create a playlist select from the Now Playing context menuWhat is that all about and where do I roam to do this
Thanks very much for your help
Richard One of my new Zen Nano Plus appears to have been bricked by my use of the Recovery Tool, when it was misbehaving. This happended before with another Zen Nano Plus we had, but we fixed that over a year ago and it works fine now.
Actuallly, it's one of 6 my family has - plus we have lots of other Creative products (a Micro, Zen, Vado, X Mod etc). While its almost brand new, its was purchased on eBay in 2008.
Usually the first thing is to update the firmware, and tried the Recovery Tool hoping it had been updated - but now my Zen Nano Plus dows not turn on or get connected, and I tried to PCs and several USB cords and various USB connections.
I undertand a Zen Nano Plus does not have a Recovery Mode but did try usual method.
. Remove the battery, and press & hold the Play button will connectiong to the PC.
2. Keep pressing play for about 0 second until the New Hardware Wizard starts - that will only happen the first time.
3. Completete the New Hardware Wizard
I believe it may need to be reformatted, but is not totally bricked and can be repaired.

Have tried to download drivers and software for Zen Micro. When I try to run it though, it does not install because it says that I do not have device connected. Have erased everything off of Zen Micro, but have not reformatted. When I attach Zen Micro to PC, Zen Micro displays "booted" & PC displays "Zen Micro" for a second or two, then switches to "MTP Device"?. Do I need to erase everything from the Zen Nano Plus first?2. What do you think my next step should be?Thx???

• Volume level ZEN NANO PLUS, can it be chang

I have a new ZEN NANO PLUS that I have bought in Spain.
I?ve had this model before and I know that, because of the EU ruling ( **bleep** those bureaucrats! ), the volume level is not as loud as the model you can buy in the US.
A few people have suggested flashing the firmware and installing the US firmware, has anyone tried this, and did they have any success?
I downloaded the US firmware and tried to install it on my player but no luck, and the player died aswell, but I?m not sure if I did the correct thing...
If anyone knows anything about this any info would be greatly received.
Thanks in advance
Neil

You shouldn't have problem using both player together in MediaSource even in transferring audio files(non-protected content). Are you referring to being able to playback PlayForSure subscription content? I doubt it is possible(personal opinion) for the player since I believe it's more to do with the hardware rather than software.
