Zen Nano Plus Volume Trou

I have a Zen Nano Plus, and for some strange reson the 'volume up' button won't work, yet the 'volume down' button will. I pressed the 'volume down' button too many times, however, and now the volume is on 0. I can press 'volume up' all I want, yet nothing happens. I would appreciate some help, because I really want to listen to my tunes.

It could be a hardware fault as BaconBits suggests but it might be a firmware glitch. Try reloading the firmware. Even if it is hardware then the firmware reload will set the player back to a default volume setting - at least then you can use it.
You can get the latest version from the Creative Downloads pages or version .03.02 from DAPJukebox. Try to load the same version as you already have to save any other problems. Backup your music to your PC first.

The problem of the minimum volume of /25 being too loud for many still exists. I would like to ask if it is possible to reverse this glitch even if a new firmware if released? Or does the mp3 player, being a flash player mean that once it's done, it's irreversible?
I know many have suggested finding external volume control means. However, I'm having a horrid time searching for such ear phones. Most of which are cheap ,of low quality and with this specific feature needed, my choice of earphones are greatly restricted. I notice that the creative ,other better brand earphones and those expensi've ones do not include this external volume control system probably because the quality of the sound will be affected.
Volume control cables are an option too. However, the quality as mentioned earlier, would drop too. In addition, it's such a chore. I don't know what can be done to solve this problem, but I'm definately not satisfied after the change happened.
Any help is appreciated, thanks.

OK, I have just reverted my N200 back to the latest f/w (.20.04) with the 0-25 volume scale and have twice managed to get it to go back to an earlier f/w (.2.0) with the 0-40 volume scale.
Before doing the following ensure that you can consistently connect your player to your PC in Recovery Mode. You must have pre-installed the drivers from your CD or the website and connect the player while holding the Play button. Keep the button held until the New Hardware Wizard starts (if this is the first time into Recovery Mode) or you get the USB icon appear in the System Tray. If you get the USB icon, click on it and it should say "HI SPEED USB device attached to non-HI SPEED USB hub". Click Close on this window.

Check that you are in Recovery Mode by looking in Device Manager - it should show as Player Recovery Device and not as your normal player's entry such as N200 USB Device.

If you can't connect in Recovery Mode then investigate that first before continuing.

If you have any programs that start when you plug in your player, such as MediaSource, then disable them from starting (Tools, Settings, Detector in MediaSource). This step seems to be quite important as it stops your device from being detected half-way through the upgrade process - I think this is what was causing me problems before.

Connect your player in Recovery Mode as outlined above.

Run the earlier f/w file (.2.0 or earlier for the N200 have the 0-40 scale).

The Searching for Devices box should show - wait and do not press Cancel.

You should then get "Media State Not Initialized" - click OK.

Check the Format Data Area box and say Yes to the next window.

Press Start - the upgrade should start with Allocating Tables and then continue.

When Complete is displayed press Close.

Player should now have earlier f/w on it with 0-40 volume scale.

So, in the end, it was quite a simple procedure to get back to the 0-40 volume scale. Remember that you will lose any enhancements to the f/w such as support for 3 levels of sub-folders and Thai language support so you have to make a choice on what is most important to you.
For the Nano Plus you can try version %20Firmware%20.03.02].03.02. Not sure if this was 0-40 though.
For the TX FM you can try .5.0.

• Zen Nano Plus volume not work

About 3 months ago the button used to increase the volume on my player became stuck and wouldn't work. Since then I've been especially careful not to press the "decrease volume" button on my player. Unfortunately, today my luck ran out because while it was in my pocket the button got pressed and the volume has gone all the way down to 0 and I can't get it to go back up manually. I was wondering if there is a way for me to fix the volume via the software that came with the player or if I need to have it fixed. (That or throw it out since Creative doesn't have a phone number for technical support like a decent technological company). Thanks for any help!

• Volume level ZEN NANO PLUS, can it be chang

I have a new ZEN NANO PLUS that I have bought in Spain.
I?ve had this model before and I know that, because of the EU ruling ( **bleep** those bureaucrats! ), the volume level is not as loud as the model you can buy in the US.
A few people have suggested flashing the firmware and installing the US firmware, has anyone tried this, and did they have any success?
I downloaded the US firmware and tried to install it on my player but no luck, and the player died aswell, but I?m not sure if I did the correct thing...
If anyone knows anything about this any info would be greatly received.
Thanks in advance
Neil

You shouldn't have problem using both player together in MediaSource even in transferring audio files(non-protected content). Are you referring to being able to playback PlayForSure subscription content? I doubt it is possible(personal opinion) for the player since I believe it's more to do with the hardware rather than software.

• Zen Nano Plus: Line in recording from micropho

I've got a Creative Zen Nano Plus and was very happy about its ability to encode MP3s from the line in jack.
Since the integrated microphone is not very good for recording (especially loud music) I tried to connect a microphone to the line in jack. Unfortunately I had to recognise that it doesn't record anything no matter if "Sync Track" is on or off.
I'd be glad if someone can tell me what exactly the problem is. Do I need some kind of special microphone (I read somewhere that it has to be "pre-amped", whatever that may mean) or is the line in jack designed for just recording from devices like a CD player? Help is very much appreciated. :-)

Big bump.
I did some research quite a while ago and thought that I should report the results for people also having that problem.
A line-in jack is not a microphone-in jack. The difference between them is that the former is not supplied with electricity, so it can't power simple external microphones on its own. Thus, a real microphone-in jack is needed, though none of the Creative products has one included. You will still need a pre-amped microphone to get recordings with proper volume, though. A good and cheap solution is the Archos Stereo Microphone that comes with a preamplifier including volume adjust (http://www.archos.com -> Accessories -> Audio accessories).
Microphone-in jacks can be found for example in the iri'ver iFP-7** and iFP-8** series. Since this players are discontinued and newer models don't have these jacks, it's kind of hard to still use that feature.

• 1GB Zen Nano Plus player stuck in Radio mo

I have a GB Zen Nano Plus player. I use it every day, have since I got it 2 yrs ago. It has the radio feature. I switched it to radio the other morning and now it won't switch back to my mp3 music. When I push in the scroller to go to the menu, it takes me to the Radio menu and locks up. Won't scroll up, won't scroll down, can't up or down the volume, can't even turn it off... I have to remove the battery for it to quit. I have no clue what's going on. I connected it to my computer and formatted it....didn't help. Went here online and got the firmware update drivers....didn't help. I can still load music onto and play it while it's hooked to my desktop, but I can't use it any other way than radio when I'm using it solo. Any ideas?

Make sure to reflash the firmware in recovery mode (see instructions on Creative's support website), and also let the updater format the data area. If that doesn't work it's probably a hardware failure, I'm afraid...

I went ahead and updated it anyway. One little thing I noticed was now the volume only goes up to 25 like my Zen Touch instead of 40 or whatever that it did before. Same loudness, different numbers only. Other than that, I have not noticed anything different, but it seemed to work OK scrolling through a song with the old firmware. I did not, obviously, do a detailed comparison.

• Zen Nano Plus: weird hissing sou

Hello friends! I checked the FAQ and did a bit of searching but I couldn't find any resolutions to my problem. Hopefully someone can help me out here, if it is possible. (Also, sorry if this has already been asked before, I must have missed it!)
So, I recently got a zen nano plus and it works like a charm, except for one thing. I saw this mentioned somewhere before but I can't remember what the user did to solve this problem. The thing is, whenever the backlight is turned on, there is this weird hissing sound. As soon as the light turns off, it disappears. I hope you know what I mean... is there any way to fix this? It's really annoying when you are listening to a slower song and are changing the settings at the same time etc.
I updated the firmware but I am still having this problem... (see, I donno if that would actually fix such a problem, but at least I tried!)
I appreciate any help I can get

"The thing is, whenever the backlight is turned on, there is this weird hissing sound. As soon as the light turns off, it disappears."
It is most noticeable with 6 ohm earphones and a low volume. I use 32 ohm earphones and rarely if ever hear the noise on my n200(basically the player as the Nano Plus). You could try 32 ohm earphones, or else if the noise really bothers you you could set the backlight time to zero and disable the backlight. A firmware update won't change things, as it is due to the hardware, not the software.

• Zen Nano Plus Connection Probl

(2)Zen Nano Pluses. Both using firmware .0.03. One Red, one Black (Click and Clack always want to know what color car they are diagnosing...)
(2) Computers, both XP SP2 with all updates; one called Dad's, one called W's.
One Zen (for ID, the red one) has been used on Dad's computer without issues for about 3 weeks.
One Zen, new and color Black, works on Dad's computer, but not on W's computer. W's computer will not properly recognize either the new Nano (the black one) or mine (the Red one), in either Creative MEdia SOurce, or Zen Explorer, or Windows explorer.
First, I have read the FAQ's. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the Nano software. When I use PB's check odd things appear:
PB's check:
With your player connected and View, Devices by Connection selected in Device Manager navigate through as follows:
Advanced Config and Power Interface (ACPI) PC
->Microsoft ACPI-Compliant System
-->PCI Bus
You should then see a series of USB Host Controllers that you will have to click through in turn to find the one your player is connected to.
Underneath each controller should be a USB Hub, and then devices are listed beneath the hubs.
For my N200 I have USB Mass Storage Device, Creative MuVo N200 USB Device then Generic Volume.
Your entry should be similar but with Zen Nano Plus instead of N200.
While you're there, right-click on the entry for the hub attached to your player and select Properties. On the Power tab it will show how much current the port can supply and in the Attached Devices list it will show how much power the player needs. In my case the hub supplies 500mA and the player needs 00mA.
PB
What appears on Dad's computer, with either Nano, is USB Enhanced Host Controler, USB Root Hub, Generic USB Hub, USB Mass Storage Device, Creative Zen Nano Plus USB Device, Generic Volume. Again, either Nano works on Dad's computer.
On W's computer, after just having reinstalled the new mass driver, it is USB2 Enhanced Host Controller, USB Root Hub, USB Mass Storage Device, Disk Dri've. On restart from that, it reads Creative Nano Plus USB Device, with no "volume" underneath it, and the oddball icon is not there. I think the oddball icon is associated with the "Disk Dri've". Once it read under Creative ZEn Nano Plus, "Unknown Device". Also, when I attach a Nano to W's computer, it first seems to see the Nano in the New Device Found message, THEN while it is still attached, it says in another New DEvice Found mesage that it has found a Disk Dri've. It also shows some oddball icon I can't decipher, right next to the "safely remove Hardware" icon. The oddball icon does not appear on Dad's computer.
Any ideas?

NEWS!!!
Actually, we have 3 Zen Nano Pluses. Two (the black and the red) have .0.03 firmware. I have never connected the black or the red to W's computer and have it connect properly. In fact, I had just tried (again) to connect the black, it failed, I re-booted. Then, I connected the blue, with the old firmware, and it CONNECTED. I could see it in WIndows explorer as dri've F:, which never happened with either the red or the black with .0.03 firmware.
So, now what?

• ZEN Nano Plus 1Gb Not Recognised, but 256Mb Works F

HI all, I've searched the FAQ but can't find anything like the problem I'm experiencing here.
I purchased a 256Mb Zen Nano Plus for my son at Christmas, and a Gb Zen Nano Plus for my wife. The 256Mb unit installed perfectly, works perfectly, no issues.
However the Gb unit does not install correctly - Windows XP SP2 recognises it as a Creative unit, although it takes an age for it to recognise the disk dri've. It appears in device manager as a generic storage volume with no drivers installed, and does not appear under My Computer - I can't even tell what firmware version is installed.
I've installed the correct drivers from Creative Technical Support. Have also tried to update the firmware, but the updater cannot find the Gb unit connected to the system.
After trying various driver updates on my own PC, uninstalling the software, reinstalling, Creative support suggested it's faulty and I should get a replacement.
Well the replacement arri'ved today and it has EXACTLY the same problems - can anyone help or advise?
Thanks in advance,
BT68

Arcl, I haven't a clue what's happening - have spent the best part of 5 days fiddling and installing/reinstalling. As you say, the drivers for the 256Mb and Gb are exactly the same, so why one unit should work perfectly and the larger unit refuse to work at all, I have no idea.
As stated elsewhere it appears to be some sort of compatibility issue, but I've tried it without ANY other USB devices connected, have updated my USB and Chipset drivers, and it's got me nowhere. Looks like I'll be getting a refund and going for a Sony player similar to my own, as although the software's clunky I know at least it works and is pretty much hassle-free.
Why does it seem to be a problem with the Gb units though? Both cadman and Nespa in the other thread are experiencing issues with the units, I assume they're Gb too?

• Zen Nano Plus connection problems - SOLVED (1/2/06)

I recently bought the Nano Plus. On first installation everything worked fine. I decided to upgrade to the latest drivers and firmware via downloads from the Creative site. At some point during the firmware upgrade, everything seemed to hang. Eventually I had to halt the process, disconnect the player and reboot.
When I plugged the player back in, it is detected as a USB Mass Storage Device, but Windows Explorer and the Zen Nano Plus Media Explorer both claim that the device is not connected.
Here's what I have done so far:
)Uninstalled all drivers and Creative software, rebooted, reinstalled drivers/software, rebooted. When plugging the player in, a brief window pops up saying Zen Nano Plus has been detected. This is followed by USB Mass Storage Device being detected (this window stays up a lot longer, sometimes more than 5-0 minutes before disappearing).
2)Another uninstall/reinstall, but this time with a registry cleanup in between. Same result.
3)Tried installing installation cd on partner's laptop and plugging in the player. Absolutely everything works fine. So it's not my player. There must be something I still need to do on my desktop to get everything to work again.
4)Have also tried plugging into every USB outlet on the desktop. No change.
My system:
Windows XP (sp 2)
3.2 GHz
Intel 865 chipset
2 GB RAM
My Zen Nano Plus is currently running .0.03 firmware (latest).
On this desktop I am running the latest drivers (Creative Mass Storage Drivers .07.00.250)
When the player is plugged in, device manager shows no problems. Under Disk Dri'ves, Creative Zen Nano Plus USB Device is listed (and says the driver is from Microsoft, 7//0, version 5..2535.0). Under USB, USB Mass Storage Device is listed (and says the driver is from Microsoft, 7//0, version 5..2600.0).
I have tried manually updating these drivers to anything listed in the Creative folders upon installation, but it does not detect anything. When I check the drivers listed on the laptop that works with the player, these same driver details show up.
Any advice would be appreciated. I certainly would hate to only use my partner's laptop every time I want to update my music. I am also frustrated and puzzled as to why my player first worked on my desktop and now doesn't.Message Edited by lcvdw on 0-03-2006 2: AMMessage Edited by lcvdw on 0-03-2006 2:2 AM

• Zen Nano Plus - Connection Problems and Firmware Upgrade probl

Like many others posting on this forum, for a while I had problems trying to get my GB Zen Nano Plus to be recognized by the .0.03 Firmware Update software.
I eventually got it by doing this:
While the Firmware Update software was "Searching" for a device, I kept on unplugging and plugging in the Zen Nano Plus from the USB cable while holding down the Play button, unti it "caught". I tried this since I noticed it would initially see the unit saying "A device has been detected in recovery mode...", but then throw the unit into "non-recovery" mode and hence force the Firmware Update software to keep on searching.
Anyhoo, after it did finally "catch" it (after about 0 times unplugging/plugging while holding the Play button down), it showed my firmware as .03.02, and so I did the upgrade to .0.03. The upgrade said "Complete". I then take the unit off of USB, and put my battery back in. and. uhm. well. Now it won't turn on at all. *sigh*
So there I go again in the "unplug-plug" loop on trying to get the older .03.02. Finally caught after about 30 times (yes my hands are tired). And after downgrading to .03.02, putting the battery back in, the unit turns on fine.. WHEW.
So, beware to everyone. Not sure if I'd trust the .0.03 Firmware. Doesnt seem to work on my Zen Nano Plus, and I JUST bought the thing from Circuit City about a week ago.
And for those of you having problems getting the Firmware Upgrade to work.. try my (tiring) method.
I tried this on my Dell D600 laptop (actually used the USB ports on the docking station).

• Zen Nano lowest volume too l

Just got my Gb Zen Nano Plus yesterday, but I'm finding that in many situations the quietest volume setting (/25) is just not quiet enough. Is there anything that can be done about this?

jong wrote:Since I'm using the .0.03 firmware, will switching to the .0.03e firmware fix this?I've only been able to find it in French - presumably this will work in English too?
The "e" version is the European version with limited volume but I suspect it will only apply to the max volume - the low volume levels will still be the same i.e. they won't have reduced the volume across the whole range, just the top end.

Have erased everything off of Zen Micro, but have not reformatted. When I attach Zen Micro to PC, Zen Micro displays "booted" & PC displays "Zen Micro" for a second or two, then switches to "MTP Device"?. Do I need to erase everything from the Zen Nano Plus first?2. What do you think my next step should be?Thx???
