Zen neeon keeps freez

my ! i've checked other messages on this board, but they all seem to be about zen micros, where you can take out the battery. i cant do that with a zen neeon, how do i stop the freezing? It seems to happen whenever, there is no specific thing that makes it freeze, and it happens when the music is playing, right in the middle of songs! i actually sent it in to be repaired for this same problem, and they apparently replaced the software, but the same thing is now happening again (three days after getting it back from the shop!) can anyone help? im contemplating the banging on the dresser method...

the same thing is happening to my Mp3 and i didnt know how to fix it so you just push the Reset button and all of your muxic is still there or does it get deleted?

Hi all, I just recently bought a Zen V GB mp3 player and I haven't even had it for a week yet but it keeps freezing after listening to music. I stick a pin in the reset button and start listening again and it freezes again! I went through this process about three times but it just keeps freezing. What can I do?

• My zen micro keeps freez

Hi... I hope you can help me. I am fairly new user and I have had a great experience so far with my zen micro.
My first issue was running Creative MediaSource. These boxes were popping up saying something about associations. I was going to write them down today, but now they are not showing up once I tried to plug in my player with my USB connection. I did find that I had to click yes on the 4-5 boxes to continue on or MediaSource would not run.
Then one time while using my player last week, the screen froze up and the music stopped. The screen that says 'Creative' at start up appeared and it would not turn on or off. When I plugged it in, the screen was lit up showing that it was fuctioning. I took the battery out and put it back in, the player worked again for awhile. Now for a day or so, it worked fine until I plugged it into my computer and it would not recognize the player. I unplugged it and the screen is frozen on the music playing screen.
I don't know what to do from here. I have XP on my computer, but I don't know what firmware I have. It is not the newest one from July. I tried to read up on the current issues of the firmware and don't want to create more problems if this firmware is faulty. Also I don't know how to download it and use it with my player if it is on a frozen screen and unrecognized by my USB connection.
Please can you offer some advice that will helpme understand what is going on.
Thanks,
Steph

• Zen Micro Keeps Getting Random Free

Just bought myself a Zen Micro 5gb yesterday. Updated the firmwire to the latest version--version .02.05.
The problem is that the Zen Micro keeps on freezing randomly during the playback of music. When it freezes, the only way to reboot is through taking out the battery and having it rebuild the library again. I'm quite happy with the purchase but this presistent problem sounds like it's going to lead to bigger ones.

It could be your musics that you uploaded into the player. How did you do transfer your music?... If you use MediaSource.. I would recommend upgrade that software also; from www.nomadworld.com
Try reload your music after you have the latest version of the Mediasource.
Have fun,

• Zen Neeon dead

Hi,
I've recently got a Zen Neeon - I'm in the UK but my dad bought it for me duty free in the Far East. I've had it a week and it's been fine. I was trying to record directly from a stereo through a line in, and this worked. When I'd finished I unplugged from the stereo and plugged it in to the computer. The 'connected to USB' but not transferring symbol came up on the screen of the Neeon, but the PC said 'USB device not recognised'. I unplugged the Neeon, and the 'connected via USB' icon stayed on the screen and I couldn't switch it off. I tried resetting, and entering recovery mode and neither worked. Finally by pressing all buttons randomly I got it to reset, and then reformatted the player. I uninstalled the software on my PC and started again from scratch. It was working fine again, so I resynchronised it and left it plugged in to the switched on computer overnight to charge (first time the battery has needed charging). This morning it was completely dead again - I've got the 'connected to USB' symbol on the screen, and nothing will wake it up or change it. I've tried the reset button, I've tried the reset button and the play key and I've tried uninstalling the software on the PC and starting again. Nothing works.
I've phoned the helpline in Ireland, and they took me through all this again, and in the end said they couldn't help - suggested running the battery down until the player switches off completely - but that could take well over a week as it's new and just charged (and I can't use it at all). Is there ANYTHING else I can try? What've I done?!

I had problems with my neeon
I tried downloading driver but got nowhere but I got this back from technical support and after uninstalling and restalling everything this worked
thank you for contacting technical support. Please try to do a firmware update and format of the player to see if this could fix the problems you're experiencing.First of all; download the Mass Storage Driver. You will find this here;http://sg.creative.com/support/downloads/Select MP3 Players --> Zen --> Your players name.Click "Next".Select "English", your operating system, "Driver"Click on "Go".Click on "Download now" to the left of the Mass Storage Driver. Save it onto your computer. You'll find the latest firmware version here:http://sg.creative.com/support/downloads/Select MP3 Players --> Zen --> Your players name.Click "Next".Select "English", your operating system, "Firmware"Click on "Go".Click on "Download now" to the left of the firmware.Click on "Agree".Proceed as follows:* Connect your muvo to your pc while holding the play button. Keep on holding the play button for about ten seconds.* Release the play button.* A dialogbox asking if you'd like to install a recovery device driver should appear.* Follow the insructions and install the device.- (I think the option I used was the first one)* When the player recovery mode is finished, you may double click the firmware upgrade file.* When the Audible Firmware Download appears, click start.* Follow the instructions on the screenn to complete the installation, tick the format data area box when it appears.* Disconnect the player.

• Can no longer access my menu on Zen Neeon

I have upgraded to the .009 firmware so now my zen neeon loads quicker and skips tracks quicker but now when I press the scroll button to access the menu nothing happens except it resets to the first track on my player.
I've tried resetting my player. I've created playlists which I can't access. I just can't get to my menu!!!!
Do I need to do a recovery mode rescue?

Thanks for the reply Edmeister. All the tabs take a moment attempting to load, then the Inbox Preview screen pops up. I have even uninstalled FF and reinstalled it. I've checked my settings even though I've made no changes in months. Again, the mail box has never had a problem until about 2 weeks ago. Fortunately, I can retrieve my mail through my old Eudora program and do the house keeping through IE8. Just wish I knew what has changed, i.e., my fault or a program.
Thanks again.

• Zen Neeon - cracking band - skipping songs - highly disappointed in the quality of workmans

Has anyone had any problems with the "band" around the zen neeon cracking? It has not been dropped. It has been cared for like a newborn child and within -2 weeks it had a crack in it. Now, a couple of months later it has 3 cracks in it. My husband said the band was probably too tight to begin with and was cracking to relieve the pressure on itself. But of course I called warranty services and they say it is physical damage so it is my tough luck. This thing has been babied!!!! It is poor quality workmanship. All the kids in my daughter's class wanted one after they seen hers after Christmas. I specifically told her to tell them WE DO NOT RECCOMMEND THE ZEN NEEON!? I told her to show them what hers has done (the cracking) and suggest they might want to spend their money elsewhere. Now on top of all this, it has started going bonkers!? I created her some playlists, and they used to play fine. Now, it will play one or two, skip 3-4 of the songs, then go back to playing. It used to work fine. I told her we would delete them off, add them back on, and try that again. Has anyone else had this skipping song problem?HAS ANYONE ELSE HAD THIS PROBLEM OF THE BAND CRACKING?I wish I would have spent my money on an Ipod.Message Edited by bulldogmama on 03-0-200602:0 PM

I have!? There's a big crack in mine, and yes I've dropped it, but not nearly as hard to have caused a crack (I catch it by the headphone cord before it hits the ground XD)? My brother saw it, and he's like, "What the heck did you do?"? and I told him "nothing!"?Mine's been going nuts as well!?It just gives me trouble! Now this time, I hope this isn't a permanent problem, but today, I was listening to my Zen Neeon. I shut it off, put it away, and then later on in the day, went to listen to it. Turned it on. The "Creative" screen comes up, and FREEZES there. The lights that normally flash when the player is turned on do not appear,? just the "Creative" logo, and it FREEZES there. I reset it, and turn it back on, and it just keeps doing the same thing. I'm VERY disappointed with it. Not to mention I'm going to have to take the heat from my parents because they bought it for me. I wouldn't reccomend it to -anyone- ever!

• Zen Neeon: Playlist h

i got my zen neeon a few mths ago when it was just released not long in the market. the player seems to have problems with the playlist i created. it keeps hanging the moment i selected the playlist to play. sometimes it even 'locks' the player (the screen displays the lock sign) that i have to press the reset button each time. i tried recreating playlist for several times but that does not help.
i got mp3 and wma files in the playlist. or is it that it cnt include or mix wma files inside?
pls help. thanks.

I had the problem too and had to reset the player (just reset, not relaoad firmware). Now it works fine - and I now delete any tracks I want to delete via MediaSource rather than on the player itself. I've had no problems doing it that way.

• Zen neeon cras

I own this zen neeon as a present for a few months now, but it became often that when I read files from it on my computer, it freezes, then I have to replug it.
Repluging it won't make the file readable, it still crashes when reading the same file. Maybe it has some bad sectors?
I tried formatting it a few times, but it seems some kind of cache inside the player prevented the bad sectors to be detected?
Do you guys know how to fix it's (I already tried new firmware, and formatting)
or, do you know how to open up the zen neeon(google doesnt work for opening zen neeon), so I can can put a CF card in? :P
thanks

Got this from another site. Worked for me.
If your Zen won't startup the first thing to try is see if you can access the Maintenance Menu and run a disk clean up.
If this fails, or if you are getting the "hard dri've error" message on startup, listen closely to the Zen when it starts up. If you can hear the hard dri've repeatedly clicking at the end of the start up chances are the heads or related mechanics are jammed in some way. At your own risk you can try and free this by firstly powering the player down, then giving it a hard slap on the side. An alternati've and less drastic approach is to hold it in your outstretched arm with the screen towards you and twist your wrist back and forth as quickly as you can.
This might indicate a problem with the player, so you may want to seek getting your player replaced/repaired anyway, especially if this happens more than once. Also if this procedure doesn't help you will also have to look at getting the player repaired, or if out of warranty you can try repairing the hard disk yourself.

• Zen Neeon not work

My zen neeon is stuck on the recharging screen. I've tried formatting, didn't do a thing. I downloaded the firmware update, but it wont install, it keeps losing the connection. Anyone have any ideas?

Well don't try to load firmware on that computer since you A)can't connect B)it's not an XP O.S. Do a clean up>reboot on the player, format>reboot.

• Zen Neeon - updating cont

Zen Neeon was working fine, PC crashed whilst it was connected, now when you turn the Neeon on it goes from the flashing introduction screen, to 'Loading music', to 'Updating content' but then freezes on 4 bars. Have tried resetting it but it just keeps doing the same. When its connected to the PC, the PC recognises the device but doesn't show any files or allow anything to be copied onto it. Any suggestions? Its 2 months old and infrequently used. Help! Thanks.

Absolutely identical problem! Fourth bar and all! Is there a solution to this?

• My Zen Neeon freezes up!

when my father purchased my zen neeon at walmart he gave it to me a few weeks after on january st 2006.. i opened the box and plugged it in with the usb cable (software already installed from cousins zen neeon) then i put about 879 songs on it.. i listened to it for about 5 minutes then i decided to take some songs off and make some new playlists... well after i had done that i unhooked it from the cable and the "creative" sign came up when you turn it on and it just said that for like 5 minutes i couldn't turn it on or off, so i did some searching online and people said to press the reset button and maybe even reset and play button at the same time... nothing happened it is still frozen when i turn it on. i can't even turn the dang thing off unless i press reset. my dad is going to take it in and get a new one but until then are there any suggestions? i never dropped it or nothing as a matter of fact i had hardly touched it it was working fine for about 2 hours. i even let it charge hoping that would work..SIKE what a dumb idea nothing is workin.. if any suggestions or help i would really appreciate i.
thanks,

I have tried restarting, repairing, reinstalling, and disabling automatic syncing to my computer but no changes. It works fine on my old laptop. If anyone one knows anything please help.

• Zen Neeon 6GB..... DEAD

Hope somebody can help out here, I'm at my wits end!
Got my new Zen Neeon 6GB one week ago. Installed all the software, hooked the player up to a USB port, charged it up, and had a few days of problem-free listening.
The battery was very low this morning so I hooked it up to a USB to recharge. Only this time my laptop will not recognise the device at all! It does not come up as an extra dri've on my "My Computer", and it is nowhere to be found on any device list.
To make things worse the battery is so low that the player will not switch on at all. So basically what it does is:
When connected to the laptop the word "Creative" appears on the display, but with no backlights, and no other button has any effect at all. The device is not read anywhere, and apart from the Creative logo could be considered dead as a dodo.
When not connected to the laptop, I push the on button, the Creative logo appears very briefly, followed by a very quick glimpse of the "battery needs recharging" symbol, then it cuts off completely. No other button has any effect.
I have reset the player a couple of times. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the softwear, and still no joy. I am really cheesed off that this kinda thing is happeneing only a week after buying it, I had been told that Creative were reliable?
Anyway, any help would be very gratefully received.
Merry Christmas!

I have used Zen Neeon 6GB for the last 2 years untill a few months ago. I do not remember having any issues connecting to the computer. But I do know that when you connect, you don't need to turn it on via the on button. It the connection is auto detected and the player turns on on its own. Sometimes computers can't detect devices you might want to try disconnecting and connecting again (I know this may not be your case). You should get the charger to charge it via socket, it is much more efficient and less troublesome. You could also try connecting to other computers. You may also try posting this problem on PC Help forums to seek advice on device detection, they would likely be able to help.

• Zen neeon recording and USB ca

. I want to record tapes onto my zen neeon but it keeps using up loads of battery so that Im only able to record a few tapes before my zen battery dies. i was wondering if i can plug my zen into its usb cable to charge it at the same time as recording? but on the screen when Im recording it says "no USB cable/ unplug USB" and there is the word USB with a line through it. does this mean that i shouldnt plug in the USB while Im recording?
2. Also I bought a travel adapter, not from creative, just a normal adapter that you plug into the wall, and then you plug the USB cable with the zen into this. but it doesnt seem to be working, it doesnt charge my zen. and everytime i plug this in, the zen turns on by itself, even if its been locked. can anyone help? i suppose i will have to buy a creative adapter...
cheers

. Even if you connect with USB (trough a pc) you can't do any action on your zen. It has been always like that, and it won't change.
2. Only creative products wil work properly with creative material.
See it as tuning a car. You bought a BMW but you can't change the frontbumper by one of audi... Get it's

• Zen Neeon disappointm

I had problems with my neeon player. Costumer support suggested the ff.
For instruction about your specific player, please refer to <A href="]How to access the recovery mode of my Creative MP3 Player? [/url]

Once in Recovery Mode, select Format (see the image below).

When asked to Continue select Yes

When Formating has completed and unit returns to Recovery Mode, repeat the Format process again

After the second Format, select Reboot option

Allow the unit to rebuild the library.

Then upgrade the Firmware

All I see is the Creative logo on the player. My player is still frozen.
Help, as customer support still hasn't got back to me.

The player was fine for the first few months. I got it in August. It keeps crashing when I'm uploading files. I always have to format the dri've to upload all my songs again. This can be very annoying. I've updated the firmware so I'm hoping that is the end of that problem.
At the moment the Zen Media Explorer is not displaying folder information when I go to the 'Organize Data in Zen Neeon' option. I don't seem to have the same problem when I access the player through Windows Explorer. This makes it impossible to edit my playlists as I can't see what is the folders.
The Neeons sell for about ?20 on ebay. This includes postage. Message Edited by paulhino on -6-2005 0:37 PM
