OK, just a few questions about this particular model from Creative. I would appreciate any clear response to my questions where possible:
As a musician and regular columnist for the UK's most popular Music Tech mag:
Sound on Sound -these are just a few questions lots of our eager pro-musician readers are asking about:
ZEN Neeon Quesions
) The 'Line-In' recording feature on the ZEN Neeon has not really been fully addressed in its technical entirety on the products pages of Creative Labs web site.
So with this lack of information, I would like to ask about the quality of both the recording and encoding quality.
Could someone post a sample of a 'Line-In' recording from their Neeon?
2) If the Neeon allows PCM/WAV recording, then what is the "real" and actual true bit depth and sample rates offered. I presume the Neeon also encodes the 'Line-In' recordings to MP3 too. What bitrate/sample rates are offered?
3) Is the built-in microphone recorded using the same process as the old NOMAD models, using VOC compression? If so, why doesn't the microphone use the same method of recording as the 'Line-In'? FM radio recordings also apply to the above question.
4) When will they be available to buy in the UK?

. Yes the Zen Neeon function just like the other MuVo series using UMS(Mass storage) so you can just plug it in and use your Windows Explorer to transfer the files to the player. But if you wish to create playlist, then you will need to use the bundled software to do so.
2. It can record both in Wav(32kbps) and MP3(96kbps, 28kbps and 60kbps).
3. The player builtin microphone are cater more for personal close range recording. Gi'ven the big size of a lecture hall, the result might not be as good.

Zen Neeon Recharge on LCD screen even though not connected er

I purchased a Creative Zen Neeon 6 gig MP3 player last December 2005. I'm not having trouble where I can connect the MP3 Player to the computer, it will recognise the device and all the songs stored...what happen is when i safely remove it from the USB cable the Neeon will turn on, show the creative logo and then show the USB charging action on there even though it's not connected....Has anyone else experienced this problem? I've tried re-setting it but again the USB recharge action on the LCD appears again...Anyone fixed this? Any help appreciated, thought i'd try here first before contacting tech support again...

I tried clean up already, as stated above. Since then I have also tried reformatting the player again, adding new music, and retrying the clean up. The player seems to recognize that there is music on there when it builds the library, because the more music I have uploaded the longer it takes, but when it fully boots up it still shows NO MUSIC at all, no tracks, no artists, nothing.

Zen Neeon - Stuck on charge screen and not recogniz

Hey there,Purchased my Zen Neeon only 20 days ago, but last night I left it hooked up to my computer, and turned my computer off. Today when I booted up, it said new USB device found, followed by unknown device, I looked at my Zen, and it was on the charging screen. With no option in windows to safely revome, I unplugged it, and it remained with the charging screen on. When the power button is held in, nothing happens and the charge screen remains. Any ideas anyone? Or is it broke already :\.

I have somewhat the same problem. My Zen went dead and i tried to charge it. But then it couldn't charge and it wasn't recognized by the computer at all. The screen only displayed "creative". So i left it to charge over night, and the next morning the only difference was that the Zen was heated up. So, its still dead and i can't seem to fix it, cause it doesn't seem to be detected by the firmware. i'm dying without my zen! help, please?

My Zen Neeon freezes up!

when my father purchased my zen neeon at walmart he gave it to me a few weeks after on january st 2006.. i opened the box and plugged it in with the usb cable (software already installed from cousins zen neeon) then i put about 879 songs on it.. i listened to it for about 5 minutes then i decided to take some songs off and make some new playlists... well after i had done that i unhooked it from the cable and the "creative" sign came up when you turn it on and it just said that for like 5 minutes i couldn't turn it on or off, so i did some searching online and people said to press the reset button and maybe even reset and play button at the same time... nothing happened it is still frozen when i turn it on. i can't even turn the dang thing off unless i press reset. my dad is going to take it in and get a new one but until then are there any suggestions? i never dropped it or nothing as a matter of fact i had hardly touched it it was working fine for about 2 hours. i even let it charge hoping that would work..SIKE what a dumb idea nothing is workin.. if any suggestions or help i would really appreciate i.

I am experiencing the same problem. When I plug my ipod into my laptop it freezes, music will keep playing but I cannot click on anything. When I unplug my ipod i can use itunes again. I have tried restarting, repairing, reinstalling,and disabling automatic syncing to my computer but no changes. It works fine on my old laptop. If anyone one knows anything please help.

Zen Neeon - Transferred Files Always Garg

Hi there -
If anyone could help me with this one, it would be much appreciated, as it has got me stumped!
I recently bought a ZEN NEEON 5 Gb off ebay, via Singapore.
I have installed the software included, but everytime i transfer mp3s (all of these are either 60kbps-320 kbps) they play 'gargled', with stutters and phut! noises sounding every couple of seconds.
The funny thing is, my friends's computer and my sister's both transfer the files absolutely fine!
Therefore there seems to be some conflict between my PC and the Zen Neeon firmware!
Please someone help me before I get too angry and sell this nice, small mp3 player for, dare I say it, an Ipod!

YES, yes yes!
I have this exact problem and i'm having no success in sorting it out. I have even purchased a USB expansion card in the hope it was just a conflict with the USB ports on my motherboard, but without any luck (it made no difference).
I have found that if i set the USB ports to USB .0 in the bios I can get "better" transfers, but still not great (not to mention the terrible transfer speeds.)
Do you know what type of motherboard you have, as it would be nice to try and find a common component. I have a gigabyte GA-7N400 Pro2.
I have two suspicions for the cause of the conflict:
) the nforce2 bus
2) a conflict with the SI32 SATA controller (my system dri've is an SATA hdd) and the way it interacts with the nforce2 bus. What i believe is happening is the SATA controller is hogging the bus and the USB port is getting corrupted as a result.
Having said that, two previous ipods, my digital camera, USB flash discs and my samsung phone all work perfectly with the computer.

Zen neeon os updates?, current OS SU

I have been a Creative supporter for many years, sound cards, emu stuff, my family has multiple Creative MP3 players, 2 Zen Micros, Jukebox (20 gig), Zen 20 gig and now I purchase a Zen Neeon and am completely dissappointed by its completely lame OS. Bottom line is for 200 bucks (approx) I would certainly expect this nicely designed MP3 player to AT LEAST be able to resume its play back where I turned it off. I enjoy many long recordings, DJ mixes etc and that every time I turn it on it goes back to 00:00 is enough to make this a complete waste of $200 when I could have bought a Zen Micro instead. Second to this is the fact that it takes so friken long to change tracks etc... I do love the design and size and radio and all that and I really hope that Creative will properly support this product otherwise this puppy is going up on ebay so I can by a Zen Mico instead.

Your FW is similar to your audio player's operating system. It can do many things, from fixing bugs to changing the GUI. Doing FW upgrades means that you upgrade your FW with a newer (or sometimes older) version.

Tigon's already got you covered here. But I'll chime in with some English localisation advice.
There's a couple of ways to get through to the authorisation controls in the 11.0.x versions.
The control is still in the Store menu, but first (if you're using iTunes versions 11.0.x) you might need to bring up the menu bar to see the Store menu.
If you're using 11.0.x, click on the wee boxy icon up in the top-left corner of your iTunes to see the "Show Menu Bar" control, as per the following screenshot:
Then you'll find the control in the Store menu:
Alternatively, if you don't want to bring up the menu bar, it's still possible to get into the authorise controls via nested menus accessible from the wee boxy icon. Here's a screenshot of where to find them:

Can no longer access my menu on Zen Neeon

I have upgraded to the .009 firmware so now my zen neeon loads quicker and skips tracks quicker but now when I press the scroll button to access the menu nothing happens except it resets to the first track on my player.
I've tried resetting my player. I've created playlists which I can't access. I just can't get to my menu!!!!
Do I need to do a recovery mode rescue?

Thanks for the reply Edmeister. All the tabs take a moment attempting to load, then the Inbox Preview screen pops up. I have even uninstalled FF and reinstalled it. I've checked my settings even though I've made no changes in months. Again, the mail box has never had a problem until about 2 weeks ago. Fortunately, I can retrieve my mail through my old Eudora program and do the house keeping through IE8. Just wish I knew what has changed, i.e., my fault or a program.

Installing pre-purchased/pre-installed Photoshop CS6 CD without a CD Drive

How do I install my pre-purchased and pre-installed (on my primary desktop) Photoshop CS6 CD and Lightroom 4 CD onto my new MacBook Pro without a CD Drive? I just installed the Creative Cloud Installer per Adobe website instructions, but cannot find a link to download Photoshop or Lightroom using my Adobe ID/Password and my Product Key/Serial Number, etc.

Unfortunately, I don't see Lightroom 4 on that CS6 download list, and if I go to: "If you don't see the product you're looking for, check our Downloads page" I end up going in circles with no link to download if you already own and have serial # etc. Any ideas where this link may be?

as far as i know, i can only play content in my mp3 player using speaker with usb cable connected to pc

Zen neeon problem...pleas, he

i have my neenon about one month. so far it worked quite well until a few days ago. every time i plug it to the usb the computer seems to have a problem to identify the device and it gets stuck on this window (the window image is in hebrew):it seems to take to much time to act only on this process, and after it finally finished (about 0 minutes) it cannot open the neeon file and it says something about a problem with the input/output.i go to "zen neeon media explorer" and is says that the device is not even pluged in!?same problem with other comuters! so the problem is realy on the neeon. i already tried to press on play/off button and plug in the usb at the same time and then downloading?a firmware but it did not helped at all. can somebody pleas help me?

BSOD when I connect my ZEN Neeon to my

As said in the subject title.. My computer goes to the BSOD (Blue Screen of Death) each time I connect my Zen Neeon mp3 to it. This is the first time this has happened, just recently it started doing this, I've connected and disconnected the MP3 and the same thing happened 3 times in a row.
Is there anyway to fix this and ways to prevent it's
I took a photo of what comes up on my camera, so if I need to post it let me know. "fastfat.sys" is the technical error problem, that's what it says on the BSOD.

Well somehow I've fixed the problem. I did some things?before I tried connecting the MP3 to my computer but whatever I did, it fixed it. I installed some Windows Updates and then connecting and disconnecting the MP3 quickly because apparently that does something - not sure though, so it could've easily just been updating my Windows Update.
I didn't even have to download that Microsoft hotfix - thanks for the link though

I am very happy with my Zen Neeon and have no complaints as of yet.
Here are two suggestions I have thought of:
. I listen to electronic music among millions of other people. Often times they are recorded as sets, up to hour or so long. If there could be faster 'fastfoward' times, or perhaps some sort of skip by percentage or something to that effect it would help greatly. Many car cd/mp3 players have this feature available now. This way you dont have to listen to the first 20 minutes of every set, but never hear the finish.
2. Put the volume buttons in a different location or change the interface. Your hand generally cover the volume buttons when pushing in the scroll wheel, and if a volume button is pressed in the scroll wheel will not select.

I'm not quite happy with my neeon. My current firmware version is .009.
Here are the features that I think creative should have already included on it Neeon:
. Neeon should remember where it was when I turn it off. Let's me give you an example. Suppose you are listening to a 2 hours audio progrom (Audio Book, Blog, etc) and at some point, you have to stop listen to it and do something else, what should happen. For iPod (even the shuffle one), when you turn the player back again, it will continue where it left. For Neeon?, First you have to browse for the record first (If you play the program from the playlist) then you have to manually scroll through the record until it reach the point that you have left, via the scroll botton. And suppose you do one too more click and it go to the next record, you have to do this whole thing again.
2. It should remember the playlist. As I've already mention in the st features: When you play from a playlist, the Neeon will not remember that it 's play from the playlist. So, when you turn off your and turn it on later, it will just goto the first music/song/program on your neeon, not the first one on the playlist.
3. It should support audible just like other mp3 in the Zen series or even the low-end muvo.
I've already contact their technical support and here is a quote from them:
"As regards to your request, what we can assist you is to feedback the information to the relevant development department. As such it will be up to the development team to determine if this is within the product means. If this is possible then, perhaps they may be able to implement in the update."
The last sentence is great :: it says if we can and we want to, perhap we maybe do it.
I'm considering these lack features as a bug in design/implement. Maybe my expectation is too high as I'm a previous iPod user and such a stupid problem have never occur to me. Maybe yo wonder why I switch to zen Neeon. The reason is at that time, iPod Nano 4 GB is out of stock in Thailand, so I pick up this one (since the shop owner only tell it's good point, like sound quality is good, it have one GB more, etc).
I do really hope that the creative's "Development Team" is capable, willing, and do implement these features, in order to make the Neeon be what it should already be or put it the other way round, just to make it work, at least as best as, the entry level iPod Shuffle.
I know that Neeon have more features comparing to iPod (and it is what lure me) but as an mp3 player, I think it should focus most on mp3 features. All other features is just an add-on.
I believe creative do have a future, but it should know where to focus.
