Zen Problems

I have a 6 GB Zen and recently it has been switching through screens; the buttons either don't work or are performing the wrong function (ie. the play button was working as the back button and the volume down button was working as the next button). I tried going to the recovery mode, but encountered the same problem. It eventually performed? the clean up itself...several times. All of my songs where erased and I tried installing the MP3 Recovery Tool, but I still have the same problem and I am unable to exit recovery mode or select anything.

Weird, clean up shouldn't delete the contents on your player. :smileyindifferent: The last thing you can do is format it. If the problem still persists, then it's already a hardware issue. You may need to get in touch with customer support and have it RMA'ed. To format the player, boot the player from the recovery mode again and select Format.

  • Micro Zen | problem with the output "ho

    Hello.
    For a few weeks now the contact in the output "hole" get worse and worse. When i plug in my earphones and only touch and bend the plug a little bit in direction to the screen, the sounds gets all numb,quiet and sometimes i hear nothing. It turned that worse that i can't have the Zen in my pockets anymore, cuz the cable bends and so the sounds goes all quiet...
    I think it's a warranty subject, what do I have to do to send it in? I had a problem last july with it already and sent it in, but forgot the procedure it goes through
    Oh and I also handed it in to my local shop where i bought the Zen in 2005 because of a hardware issue and they got me a new one from creative (so they handled the whole RMA procedure).
    So what am I gonna do now? I bought the Zen in july 2005 and Creative already knows that because of the first RMA ^_^

    Before you do anything. Which headphones are you using? Are you using a case?
    My case fits around the hole perfectly so if the plug of the headphones is to thick like my Sony MDR-V50 (http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B000092YPR.0.LZZZZZZZ.jpg) it will play.. but if I move the wire around just a bit only the left side of the headphones will work. So I have to use the earbuds that came with my MicroPhoto.. a shame to cause headphones sound so much nicer then earbuds.. oh well. Try a different pair of headphones/earbuds.

  • Creative Zen Problems

    So a few days ago while transferring music to my first generation zen (2gb), I noticed it was taking awfully long so I pulled the player while it had the transfer symbol (I know they tell you not to do it, but I've done many times with my m visions and the other zen with no problem). The player then got frozen so I took a paper clip and reset it. The problem is once I hit the reset button, it just turned off and hasn't turned back on since. I have plugged it to two different usb ports and there's no blue light....some help would be much appreciated.

    No, the battery was full. There's no blue light, which is probably a bad sign...this sucks because I listen to it for about 2 hours a day and I rarely have to charge it...and it has been like a year and month or so since I got it. This by far is the crappiest mp3 life so far considering my old m vision still works and so does my 256mb muvo and my ipod nano first gen. Hopefully it will work randomly in like a month or so...or I have to get something else...

  • Creative Jukebox ZEN problems w/nForce

    I'm having a problem with uploading mp3 files into Creative Jukebox ZEN. After several tracks the transfer gets aborted. The problem occurs both over USB and IEEE1394. It also seems to be application independent (happens in Creative PlayCenter, Notmad and Media Player).
    Creative Tech Support's position is that there is a problem with nForce and IRQ sharing. They claim that the problem of aborted transfers is caused by nForce not properly handling concurrent IRQ calls of devices sharing the same IRQ (there are plenty devices sharnig the IRQ11 on my system, which should be normal and should work without any problem to my knowing - nForce networking adapter, nForce audio processing unit, GeForce graphics card, Modem, IEEE1394 controller and USB and USB2.0 controllers).
    They advised to unplug all USB devices to minimize calls by the USB controllers. This did not solve the problem entirely but increased the stability of transfers (now roughly 100's of songs get uploaded in one go insted of 10's).
    I wonder where the problem could be, because none of my other devices has similar problems (e.g. transfers of photos from my Olympus digital camera works flawlessly). Could it be nForce driver problems? BIOS settings? (is it worth trying to upgrade the BIOS? - about the only thing I haven't tried) Some kind of ZEN's driver timing problems, maybe?
    Any opinions?

    AMD Athlon XP 1700+
    512MB RAM (DDR 266MHz PC2100)
    GeForce3 Ti 200
    Windows 2000 Professional SP3
    latest MSI drivers (over Live Update)
    nForce Platform driver 2.0

    I can tell you one thing that many of us here did to open up IRQs for use, and that was to enable APIC in the motherboard BIOS. Gives you 22 IRQS to play with. Now as to what you have to do to get Windows 2000 to recognize and take advantage of this, I'll leave to others. I have windows XP myself.

  • Micro Zen - problem firmw

    Hello,
    I have tried to update my firmware with the new one, but in the middle of the procees a bug has appeared. The procees was blocked and I have restarted the device handly.
    Now when I connect it to my pc, Windows doesn't recognise him and the micro zen says " firmware problem" and goes directly on the recovery mode.... So I can't use it anymore..
    What can I do?

    Ok, I have tried to put the 2.0. firmware.
    Now when i want to start my micro zen, on the screen appears "Firmware problem" and it goes automatically on the Recovery mode or, I think what you are calling the rescue mode. I have tried all, format, clean and even Reload OS, but the problem when i want to put a new firmware, my pc says that there no micro zen connected, and the option "update" is not accesible...2 days it like that, I can't do anything with my micro zen, becaus i always stay on that menu...
    I think I'm going to bring it back to the shop.....
    It seems hat problem happen's very often with the update...

  • 8Gb Zen problem

    Hi all, I've a bit of an issue with my Zen player and I can't seem to solve it. Here's the problem:
    Background:
    I updated to the latest firmware earlier today, v.2.03 (this morning in fact) from my work xp machine. I have no music at work on the pc so there is no syncronisation with windows media or anything, i connected it to charge (it was recognised as a device and everything) and listened away with no problems. Now, at lunch time i came home and decided to put some more music on it, this i did via the explorer interface with no problems (I have a Visa 64 machine at home), and shut down the machine once the updating had occured (or so I thought).
    Literally a split second before i unplugged the USB cable i saw the screen on the Zen flash up and say updating, unfortunately i wasn't able to stop myself and this is where the problems began.
    The problem:
    Now when I switch on the player, the creative logo flashes up, the zen screen comes on then it rebuilds itself. Once it has finished rebuilding, the Zen logo flashes up for a split second then the screen goes blank and I'm unable to do anything, it is still on (the blue light under the on switch is lit) but i cannot turn it off or operate any buttons, the only way i can turn it off is by hitting the reset button. This happens everytime I switch it on.
    Plus, both pc's do not recognise the player when it is in this state.
    What i've tried:
    I've booted into the reset menu, tried the clean up, the format and the reinstall of the firmware - nothing seems to work. I have used the recovery tool to try and update the firmware (or at least reinstall it) and the update fails - every time. I've searched around and tried pretty much all the solutions I can find, I also cannot roll back to an earlier version of the firmware as when i try the standalone firmware install, the installer doesn't recognise that the player is connected.
    Help!? Any ideas? Is there a magic format button that will take it back to its original state so I can start again? Is it totally screwed?
    Any help you can give me will be appreciated.

    This doesn't look good. Looks like you already did all the troubleshooting steps that I could think of. I'm afraid your player is already faulty. I suggest getting in touch with support for further assistance.

  • Jukebox Zen Problems ripp

    I seem to get a problem with CDs that I am trying to rip to the Music Library. The majority of the time the tracks are recognised and it starts ripping ok, but when it gets about half way, it stops ripping and sends a Microsoft error report.
    It's driving me mad!!

    Check that you have the latest version of mediasource installed (v3.30.2), look in 'about Creative Mediasource.'

  • Add/Remove Zen Xtra Proble

    It seems New Years is booming with a slew of Zen problems, so here's mine complete with pictures.     That sounded like it would work, but I still get the subscriber issue in safe mode. Edit: Nevermind, I figured a way to get rid of it. But now when I try to re-install Nomad Explorer at the 95% mark some message comes up about unplugging my Zen, which isn't plugged in at all.Message Edited by bassfu on 0-05-200704:3 PM

  • Zen Touch lock swi

    I've just bought my daughter the Zen touch only a week ago, which worked OK, until now, when the lock switch at the top stopped responding and stays locked no matter what. Could there be, in the experience of the user community, some simple function we may have overlooked or is this be the black death of all Zen problems?

    Sounds faulty to me...
    You might try resetting it - press button on bottom left hand side with unbent paperclip - but probably best to contact Creative support (or whereever you bought it from) about getting a replacement...

    I am really intrested in buying either a iPod Video 30gb or a Zen Vision 30gb, and right now Zen seems to be the one I'll buy. One thing worries me though. I have a friend that bought this Mp3 player and it broke down for her like in one week. Then she got a completly new one, and the same thing with that one. Then she got sick and tired of it and bought an iPod Video wich has worked without a problem. Also I read on these forums that others have simmular problems with their machines. I just don't want to buy a Mp3 that breaks down one week after I buy it. What should I do? Are my suspections right or is this just something that happens to a few?Thanks =)MaVeN

    As far as blackop says, its true. Every MP3 player "breaks down", there is just the rate of problems. In this case, i would say buy a Zen because Ipod has MANY MANY problems, but also of course MANY MANY PEOPLE who never experienced them. On the other hand, Zen has problems too, My Zen froze once, makes a extremely scary sound once or another, and today I figured out that my Zen shuts itself off! So obviously my Zen has a few bugs to work out, so there is a chance that yours will be the same. NO MP3 doesnt break down. Amongest the ZEN problems is freezing. The ipod, however, has problems with screens, pads, controlls, settings, earphones, and even accesories. However, one can also argue that a lot more people has an Ipod, so its inevitable that Ipod has more problems. What I suggest you is buy a Zen, but be mentally prepared for potential break-downs.

    anyone with ideas regarding my zen problem. screen stays black except for word creative on it. have gone into recovery screen, and clean up disk, but the player appears to hang, with the touch pad lights pulsating while it is connected to power.
    if it is off the power the screen stays black.
    have connected to the computer via usb cable, but program will not recognise the player.
    cannot download updates while computer does not recognise player.
    nothing happens when i try to turn it on, no lights, etc. except the creative screen.
    am currently away from my home, so no chance of reloading via the original disks.

    Try doing a Cleanup from recovery mode for the player. Check out the sticky at the top of this section or the URL below.

  • Zen 20gb USB probl

    Just bought this item and im in love with it :P
    it works perfectly, it just causes problems for other devices plugged into USB such as mouse and keyboard.
    when i plug the zen into the USB, the mouse will not work. to resolve this i plugged the mouse into the PS/2 port.
    although now with just the keyboard plugged into the USB, plugging the zen in will cause the keyboard to not work.
    i checked what the zen was using in the Usb hub thing and it said 440mA out of a total 500mA. not sure if this has anything to do with it, im guessing this is due to recharging and transfering etc.
    If i replug the keyboard in whilst zen is in, it will say unknown device found and malfunctioned, to get the keyboard to work again i have to have the zen unplugged and replug the keyboard to find it.
    im using the SiS chipset on my motherboard and never had any problems before.

    It sounds like it's more a PC problem than a Zen problem, in that it can't supply sufficient power. If this is the case then you are looking at double checking you have the latest BIOS and USB chipset drivers, in case it's a software issue. Or perhaps at getting a PCI USB2 card or a powered hub.

  • Syncrologic

    When I installed ZenHH by itself on my Treo it worked fine. I was able to do
    a hot sync and ZenHH sync without any problems to my knowledge. Upon
    installing syncrologic I have started to get intermittent device failures
    and it appears nothing is active. The device is usually not being used but
    connected or not connected to the Sprint network. The message I have receive
    on the Treo is "Fatal Alert" (also get sometimes "Fatal Exception Error")
    and my only option is to hit "RESET" which does a soft reset I assume. (I'm
    not given the usual hard reset message of "do you want to delete your
    files") At which point it may or may not reset. On occasion I have to force
    a soft reset. regardless of the way the device is "Reset" it does come back
    up but I have lost all of my RAM none Palm standard applications including
    ZENHH. I am forced into a HOTSYNC session to recover.
    Also every time I do a ZenHH session I get a message "Unable to complete the
    IP client upgrade" with "OK" as the only option. Upon selecting OK the ZenHH
    session continues normal with the correct data sent down to the ZenHH
    inventory dB.
    One thing which may or may not have any bearing on this Zen problem is after
    I have picked up the ZenHH errors and manage to get my device back on-line
    it usually takes two hotsync sessions to recover all of the data I have
    lost. Invairably I will get a message to view log because everything did not
    get backed up. In looking at which items it is allways the Syncrologic and
    ZenHH apps.
