Zen & SD cards probl

Hi guys. I bought a Zen 8gb 3 months ago to replace my old Zen Nano.
I'm really happy of my choice and I've never had problems with it since now.
Considered that buying a Zen 8gb with a SD card 8gb I saved > 50? than buying the 6gb zen i decided to do so.
This tuesday I bought a PEAK SDHC 8gb class 6 card. I put it in the zen, went to the "removeable disc" section, connected the USB cable to the pc, copied some videos, and it was working. I spent the rest of the evening converting files and copying them to the SD card.
After some time, while I was doing other things, I noticed that explorer and the copy of the files where stuck. I killed explorer, removed the USB cable but the ZEN was still saying "Do not disconnect". So I removed the SD card and the Zen's screen went black. I resetted it, inserted the card back and connected it to the PC, discovering that my SD card was downgraded from 8gb of space to 3.75gb and it had become unformattable.
After a lot of googling i found the problem. The MBR of the SD was corrupted. So I downloaded a nice program called testdisk and tried to fix it. Infact it said that the geometry of the disc (cylinders heads sectors) was something like 468C 256H 63S (468*256*63*52 = 3.75gb circa).
So I tried to set the geometry as it should have been (024 cylinders instead of 468), to get back the lost 4.25gb. No way. Anytime I set it, then removed the card and put it back in it was as before.
The next day I went to the shop and they replaced it.
The new one lasted 2 days. Yesterday evening I was still copying videos in it and I got stuck for no reason. Disconnected, resetted the Zen, etc. When I put the card back in it was veeeery slooow but the Zen was still able to read it (after saying "The disc is corrupted, maybe after an unsafe removal" ) .
I connected the USB and launched a scandisk on the SD card. It was almost complete but then said "Unable to complete the task" and I got an i/o error.
Disconnected etc. The card is now unreadable. From windows explorer it says "Insert disc into dri've please". From testdisk I can read the MBR and it gives me 8GB correctly, but no partitions, and if I try to modify anything it gives me writing errors.
Help needed.

hey Catherina,
The firmware is the most recent version: .2.0e.
I have Windows Media Player on my computer, but mostly I use Windows Explorere for accessing my ZEN (and other devices), for video transfert to ZEN I use ZEN Media Explorer.
I can easily access my ZEN in all other cases: I have putted about 7000 wma songs on it and a lot of photos and videos. All those things are transferred via the normal way, without any problem.
I use a few SD cards too for my videos, and they work great (transfert via PC directly to the SD card in pC's card-reader).
So I bought a SANDISK SDHC 8GB card for having more storage capacity.
But my PC can't recognize this card, well, I thought, I'll try to access this card via the ZEN's cardslot, and that does'nt work.
Note that I have tried to do the same task by inserting a normal SD card (2GB) into the ZEN, but with the same result.
The phenomena that every time happens is discribed in my former reply.
My computer is 3 months old: Processor INTEL Core 2 Quad CPU - Q6600 @ 2,40 GHz; OS Windows VISTA, HD TB -7200 rpm. 4 GB?RAM Memory.
Can it be that my PC does'nt support SDHC cards? (I 'll contact the factory plant for that). Could this have influence on this phenomenon?
Meanwhile I found in the Technical Specifications of my PC that the build-in card reader does'nt support SDHC..

  • Zen SD card lim

Can anyone tell me if the new Zen has a limit on the size of SD (or SDHC) memory card you can put into it's The info around doesn't specify?
32 Gb may not be enough for me... but would probably buy it if the card size was unrestricted.

    Thanks for the reply.
Not integrating fully into the OS wouldn't be too much of an issue for me as long as i could put, say a 6 Gb card into it. I know some devices (phones for instance) will not take cards bigger than 2Gb,? was just wondering if this is the same for the new Zen.

  • Creative zen memory card iss

Hello??I hope someone can help, i am looking at purchasing a creative zen as i am so pleased with my old zen touch. What i was wondering is when you fit a?memory card to the zen player, does it make the player slow to start up, which is apparantly a problem with the sansa mp3 player which also expandable memory. With music on the memory card, does the music on the memory card join the music in the library of the player, or do you need to select the memory card in a sub menu then search through the music on the memory card. Finally does the music on the memory card show cover art etc if its attached. Thankyou for any assistance

    Hi,
"when you fit a memory card to the zen player, does it make the player slow to start up, which is apparantly a problem with the sansa mp3 player which also expandable memory."
As far as I know there isn't any slow down during the start up.
"does the music on the memory card join the music in the library of the player, or do you need to select the memory card in a sub menu then search through the music on the memory card."
just like you already wrote, you need to select the memory card in the sub menu, but there are petition you can sign, so in the future firmware they will integrate it
"does the music on the memory card show cover art etc if its attached."
for this question I honestly don't know the answer, because I don't use cover arts for the music I have
    I hope I helped You a little

Are you using a compatible SD card? Here is the list of cards known to work with it. http://www.creative.com/products/mp3/zen/?nav=sdcard

  • Zen SD card integration.

    Still not fixed?
Still ignoring customers for how long now?

. I really think there's some sort of hardware problem that prevents it from happening on the Zen. I can't imagine this hasn't been thought of, long and hard.
I have my shortcut button set to go to my bookmarks. Ever notice that when you're navigating the memory card, that button doesn't work? You have to back out to a higher menu first. Somehow, when you're on the card, it's like you're in a different system.
    Anyway, that's my guess.

  • Zen 20gb USB probl

Just bought this item and im in love with it :P
it works perfectly, it just causes problems for other devices plugged into USB such as mouse and keyboard.
when i plug the zen into the USB, the mouse will not work. to resolve this i plugged the mouse into the PS/2 port.
although now with just the keyboard plugged into the USB, plugging the zen in will cause the keyboard to not work.
i checked what the zen was using in the Usb hub thing and it said 440mA out of a total 500mA. not sure if this has anything to do with it, im guessing this is due to recharging and transfering etc.
If i replug the keyboard in whilst zen is in, it will say unknown device found and malfunctioned, to get the keyboard to work again i have to have the zen unplugged and replug the keyboard to find it.
im using the SiS chipset on my motherboard and never had any problems before.
any ideas guys and gals? thanksMessage Edited by mystical_aeon on 06-23-2005 09:40 PM

It sounds like it's more a PC problem than a Zen problem, in that it can't supply sufficient power. If this is the case then you are looking at double checking you have the latest BIOS and USB chipset drivers, in case it's a software issue. Or perhaps at getting a PCI USB2 card or a powered hub.

  • Zen Micro USB proble

Okay, I have this problem, and I have looked through all the topics, and found problems similar to mine, but the answers are just unclear to me. I guess you could say I am bad with technology, so I don't understand a lot of things.. So if you could help me, and maybe explain everything simply, I would greatly, GREATLY, appreciate it.
Okay, I just got the Zen Micro today, and I installed everything. When I connected the Zen to the USB cord however, a little pop up in the bottom right-hand corner of my screen appeared. It said, " A HI-SPEED USB device is plugged into a non-HI-SPEED USB hub."
I have no idea what this means, or HOW I can fix this.
ALSO.. When I try to download the playforsure software.. A little pop appears again, saying, " Easy Start CD requires Service Pack or later to install on Windows XP. "
Once again, what is the Service Pack and where do I get this?
Heh.. Thank you so much for at least reading this, I appreciate it.

. It sounds like you don't have a USB2 port on your computer. The Zen should still transfer files, just a lot slower. You can get a USB @ card installed for not too much money. It's quite simple to do.
    2. Service Pack & 2 are updates for Windows XP. You can get them at Windows Update.

  • Zen micro connections probl

We just changed our OS from xp home to xp professional because our technican said that our xp home doesnt support usb 2.0 When it was done I got the zen micro cd and installed meciasource, drivers, zen micro explorer and wmp 0. Our PC has 4 usb ports, 2 front 2 back. When I tried connecting my micro to the first front port it wasnt recognized and my micro locked up. I had to remove the battery to get it going again. Then I tried the other front port and it worked.
Then after a few days I connected my micro and the usual box that pops out from the system tray pops out that its connected. However in mediasource it says player not connected. I tried restarting my PC but it didnt work. So I did a disk cleanup on my micro and it was recognized by mediasource. But after transfering the first two songs it timed out on the next couple of songs. Then it transferred some songs. When it was done my player wasnt recognized by mediasource. I tried the two back ports but only one is working. The other one has the same problem as stated above.
Can anyone help me fix this? Its such a hassle to use the back port every time coz I have to move some things around the PC to acces the back ports. All usb ports are working with our digital camera. Im also afraid that waht happened to the front port that was working previously would happen to the back port and then I cant transfer any songs anymore.

    miguel wrote:
The front ports worked with the micro for a while after installing xp pro. And it was usb 2.0. On our xp home that is always updated the front ports were only usb .. So this means that our front ports are usb 2.0 right?
The de facto way to check is (a) to ensure you have XP SP, and that you've double checked in Device Manager that the chipset has automatically upgraded to USB2 (it doesn't always happen) and (b) to connect a high speed device to the port.
Our digicam and cellphone all connect on the front ports in usb 2.0 Only the micro doesnt work the front ports.
I've just written this in another post, that not all USB chipsets are made equal. Cheaper chipsets no doubt aren't fully tested or they don't comply with the full USB standard. Creative have assured that their players and drivers are completely compliant with the USB standard. BUT it could be some other bug comes into play, either with the Creative driver or the chipset and drivers. Hard to say. I've seen similar problems with iPods.
I think our usb came with the motherboard. I dont remember any pci cards. I think our mobo is intel D865GBV but im not really sure. Is there a way to know what our motherboard is?
You can use a product like Belarc Adviser, which will check the hardware contents of the PC.

  • Zen v plus probl

i've only had my zen v plus for a day and decided to charge it overnight. when i was listening to it this morning, after a song finished, it just turned off. i pressed the reset button multiple times but nothing happened. if i try to turn it on, nothing happens - i even tried to press other buttons and held them for more than 30 seconds.
so far, nothing has been working.
i even linked the player to my comp through the usb cable and the computer didn't even detect it - so i can't even update it firmware.
has this happened to anyone else - if so, do you have a solution?
    thanks

try this I found it on another website I had the same problem and it worked.
To solve this, plug in your hardware and wait for the prompt to search for drivers.
If no drivers are found, click on the "advanced" option of locating the drivers manually.
If you dont get an option of browsing manually go to Control Panel > Device Manager and Find your hardware thats not installed. Right click on it and select Update Driver Software.
You get asked to Browse your computer, or you can enter a file location. Simply place the following in, or find the folder on your computer
    C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository
Click next and Windows searches that folder... and finds your drivers... installs them and sorts it all out.
This has solved my problem with my Creative Zen V Plus MP3 player and some other hardwares which cannot be recognised."

  • Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra FIRMWARE PROBL

In the spring of 2005, I bought a 40GB Nomad Jukebox Sen Xtra. It worked for a little over a month without any problems. Since then, it shuts off on its own and?it freezes. For the first time since I bought it, I attempted to load new music onto it. Now whenever I turn it on, it reads "re-building library..." and then it's stuck on "Firmware Problem."? I tried updating?the firmware from the website, but since?my computer no longer recognizes that?the player is?plugged in.
?I welcome any suggestions for this problem. Please help me so I can stop regretting my decision to buy this...

Kayla24?Looks like you're going to have to start regretting buying something?made by?Creative. There are oodles of stories on these boards regarding software problems and creative mp3 players. Creative have published ?'updates' that effecti'vely disable players but will not take any action unless the machine is still under warranty. The last e-mail I got from tech support said 'We know the firmware [update] disabled your machine, but unless it is still in warranty there is nothing we will do about it."? It was a Zen Xtra 30GB, it's now a paperweight. If your's still turns on, try reinstalling the firmware on a old pc/laptop that has never had Windows Media on it, but has been updated to media player 0. This sometimes works - otherwise join the crowds and get an i-pod. At least they work - and Apple fix 'em when they break 'em.

  • Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra connection probl

    Hello Everyone.
First off, I am using Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra (30G) with Windows XP - SP2. A few days ago my Zen Xtra would connect to my pc but as of today it no longer does. After searching through similar posts I am assuming it's not a problem with my Zen but with my PC. None the less, I did do my best to troubleshoot myself. I downloaded all possible firmware/drivers from Nomadworld.com. However - the firmware upgrade would not complete due to the fact that my device is not connected. I tried connecting my player to other USB ports on my PC - no luck. I used Nomad Explorer to do my transfers and as suggested in the FAQ, I tried downloading others (ie: MediaSource) however these wouldn't install because it could not detect any device. When I go to Device Manager/USB/ my Nomad isn't even listed. I have tried 3 different USB cables. The player isn't locked. Other devices work with the usb cables and port (ie: logitec clicksmart camera)
So now assuming it is a PC problem, where do I go from now? Thanks in advance for any help you can give me

    Hibbs,
Thank you for your response. The only thing that comes to mind is k-lite codec pack I downloaded and installed for the Indeo codec needed for my clicksmart 820. I'm not sure if that would have anything to do with the disruption of my device. The camera itself worked but wouldn't record videos until I installed the codec. Everything else to my knowledge is the same. No other new USB devices installed either.

  • Jukebox Zen Xtra - "Harddisk Probl

So tonight I brought my Zen home and plugged it into my computer to add some new music when I realized it was no longer working. I had been playing music earlier today. Now however, it boots, freezes at the welcoming screen of EAX, and then reverts to safe mode. I can not use any options in safe mode however, except reboot which allows it to reboot into the same problem. Any ideas on what I can do? Sorry if I'm a noob. It's a 40 gig and I've had it since about last may.Message Edited by victim on 02-03-2005 07:32 AM

Anecdotally hard disk problem means the player is faulty and needs to be repaired/replaced. You should either return it where you bought it or contact Creative Support.
You can try the advice here in the Zen FAQ at Nomadness.net if you want, at your OWN RISK.
