Zen Sleek Battery time, loading ti

I`ve bought my Zen Sleek 2005-07-29, but i have som problems with it.
The battery time is nearly on 8 hours instead of 8 that it stand it should be.
And the the seeking time when you shall listen to a song before it starts is sometime 5-6 sek.
Is this normal?
Can i return it or get a new one or something?
I don`t now what to do.
I want`t the player to act normal, beacuse this is the best mp3 player i`ve ever had.
I just want a solution on my problem. Message Edited by UUnreal on 08-23-2005 03:24 PM

before you get too nervous about battery life, make sure you leave it plugged in and charging for several hours. The battery does not totally charge even when the indicator says "full". There is a 0% or so "trickle" charge that continues for some time after the fast charge cycle. I would guess this will add some playing time to your player. Also, the more you fool around with the thing while using it, the shorter battery life you get. Changing tracks, using shuffle (random), hitting buttons causing the backlight to go on all drain the battery faster. So do high bit-rate songs, especially high bit-rate WMA (which seems to draw fractionally more power than MP3). One of the biggest things I've noticed on my player (Touch) is that "random" causes the hard dri've to run WAY more often. Apparently it can't load as much into its internal memory at a time, so it has to seek and load songs far more often.

  • Zen Sleek battery quest

I bought a Zen Sleek a few days ago and so far I'm loving it. I have one question though.
When charging the Sleek the flashing lightning symbol never goes away, not even after some 3 hours of charging. The manual said 2 would be sufficient. Is this a problem or a feature?

That's true. These forums are more help from what I have seen. As to the battery being replaced, most of the time, under normal use, the battery lasts 2-3 years. The player hasnt been out that long, so it would be rare to find someone who has replaced it.
Does yours show any signs of battery problems?

  • Zen Sleek battery l

I just want to know if anyone else has this problem. My sleek is less than 2 years old and for some reason it will not hold a charge more than a couple of hours. It will be at full charge and if I am to leave it on i'm lucky to get 5 hours out of it before it is down to one bar. Then if I turn it off it will freeze when I power up again and will not work until I put it on the charger. I can't carry the charger around with me all the time the thing is too big!? Does anyone else have a battery problem?

All LiON batteries have a lifespan*. Depending on how it was used and how often it was charged, it could be near the end of its life at around 2 years.
My Zen Micro's LiON battery started to fade pretty quickly after 2 year's of daily use. I've installed a fresh battery and it's as good as new.
Unfortunately, the Zen Sleek's battery isn't as easy to swap as the Micro's.
*Guidelines for prolonging Li-ion battery life
? Unlike Ni-Cd batteries, lithium-ion batteries should be charged early and often. However, if they are not used for a longer time, they should be brought to a charge level of around 40%. Lithium-ion batteries should never be "deep-cycled" like Ni-Cd batteries.
? Lithium-ion batteries should never be depleted to below their minimum voltage, 2.4v to 3.0v.
? Li-ion batteries should be kept cool. Ideally they are stored in a refrigerator. Aging will take its toll much faster at high temperatures. The high temperatures found in cars cause lithium-ion batteries to degrade rapidly.

  • VERY LOW ZEN SLEEK BATTERY LI

for some reason the battery life for my zen sleek is about 4-6 hours. that is not even close to the 8hrs (even though i know it would normally be around 5hrs.)
i charged it all the way up when i first got it like i was supposed to. i've only had this for a week, and i am dissapointed.
i'm charging it up exactly how the insructions show, so i don't get it. i'm charging it up in the outlet, while the player is off. i get a battery symbol in the corner w/ a lightning symbol blinking across it. i know when it is done charging because the symbol is no longer in the corner.
am i charging it up wrong?(i don't think i am)
should i charge it up through the computer? (similar to the ipods)
do certain music formats us up more energy? (i have both WMAs and MP3 formats)
    anyone else have this problem?

WMA files will use a little more battery than MP3, but it should not make a big difference. Higher bitrates will use more battery life than low bitrates. Check out this knowledgebase page for some more detailed information. If you're still having a problem after going through that, I'd advise you speak to Customer Support.

  • Zen Sleek charge time-fire haza

Just got my Zen Sleek and its charging now with just the ac adapter. Can I leave it plugged in overnight? Or do I have to take it out after a certain amount of time to prevent damage to the sleek?
    Thanks

net994: All it does is "burn" a little electricity, so if you're a good environmentally aware type person you'll unplug when it's not in use. I wouldn't worry about waking up in the middle of the night to do it though

  • Creative Zen Sleek - Battery or Hard Drive dyi

Hi - I've had a Zen Sleek for a little over 2 years now, without too many problems. Until now. The battery seems to only last about 5 hours (previously was 0+), but even more annoying is that it keeps crashing when I try to turn it off, needing a reset, and sometimes even a clean disk and reboot before it will work again. The problem seems worse when the battery is low.
Firmware is up to date (2.0.03), should I try reflashing the firmware, or is this likely to cause more problems?
Any help appreciated. Pleased with the product, but it should not really be dying after only 2 years...
    Thanks

I had the same issue.. use a small pin to reset the player while it is plugged into your computer. the reset switch/hole is next to the data port.

  • Zen Sleek Photo Re-loading Library at Powe

My Zen Sleek Photo Player has started acting weird on me. When I power it up it goes through a re-building library phase before the powerup is complete. When it is powered up, it plays my music; but doesn't indicate what music it is playing on the screen. I cannot get my pc to recognize that my player is connected to it, so I cannot download music or podcasts. Some of my music has disappeared and all of my saved podcasts are gone. I have gone through the reboot routine, but to no use. Have I played my beloved player to death? Anyone have similar problems or suggestions. I trolled through the message board but didn't find a similar problem. Thanks.

You can try formatting but take note that you will lose the contents in the player. You might also want to try connecting to another computer or try using another usb cable to see if it gets detected.
If that still does not work or is not possible, you probably need to contact support to get it sorted out.

  • Zen Sleek non-removable battery!! You're kiddi

infosyncworld.com had this to say in its preview:
"Providing an interface to the functionality of the Zen Sleek is its 2" monochrome, blue backlit LCD screen, whilst connectivity is provided by means of a 3.5 mm stereo earphone jack and USB 2.0. The latter also offers charging of the rechargeable, non-exchangeable Lithium Ion battery of the audio player."
What are Creative playing at? This has seriously made me second think my decision to buy one of these. At least with the Micro you can change the battery when the old one has conked out!
What should I buy people, the Sleek or Micro? (I could fit my music collection on either)

lets just say, after about one year, ur battery dies. ok? the reason there isnt a user replaceable battery is to give it sleekness, making it look so much like the Dell DJ and iPod, but more like the Dell DJ if u look at it carefully. You might want the micro is u wanna save money of buying batteries. when the zen Sleek battery dies, it will cost around $00 US to replace it, plus u gotta ship it to Creative. With the zen micro, it cost $40 for a battery and all u gotta do is order it online from Creative. MUCH MORE CONVIENT eh?

  • Using Zen Micro and Zen Sleek Photo software on one compu

I have had a Zen Micro for a while. No problems using it. I just bought a Zen Sleek Photo. I am going to let my daughter use the Micro and I will be using the Sleek Photo but haven't set it up yet. Can I use the software that I loaded for the Zen Micro for the Zen Sleek Photo to load music and recharge the battery? I checked on the Zen Micro- system information it is version 2..02. But I am assuming the Zen Micro software will not work on the Sleek Photo. I have only one computer and want to be able to use both MP3 players. So do I have to delete the Micro software before loading the Sleek photo software? Will the Sleek photo software work with the Micro to load music into the Micro and let me recharge the battery? I have windows XP and windows media player 0.

    Knitter,
The Zen Micro Photo uses MTP for accessing the unit. If it is detected in WMP0 properly, then that is all you REALLY need. You may find the Micro Photo Media Explorer software usefull if you intend to use the contacts / tasks items, but that is the only program I would say is "needed" to get full function.

My Zen Sleek, about 2 /2 years old, is frozen. the buttons do not work and neither does the touch strip. The only button that does work is the power button. I've tried resetting the player, but i had no results. Can anyone help?

  • Zen Sleek Photo Freezes/Locks Up after about 5 minutes usage (need to drain battery to recov

    Hi,
My 20G Zen Sleek Photo has just recently transformed itself into a useless brick.
No matter what I try and do, it always ends up freezing after about 5 minutes usage. When you force a reset it does unlock but when it comes back on it sticks on the Creative "copyright" start up screen.
I've reformatted and re-installed the firmware several times but with the same result.
    font face="comic sans ms,sans-serif">
The only time it totally unlocks is when you either:
() let the battery fully drain and then recharge it or
    (2) you disconnect the battery lead and then press the On/Off switch for several minutes.
I've looked everywhere for a solution/reason but nothing. You find plenty of people with the same problem but no answers. Surely someone knows how to fix the problem
Is it a faulty battery (unlikely because mine charges up fine and holds it charge well)
Is it the hard dri've (very unlikely since the player can start up correctly [given the above recovery procedure] and play tracks within the 5-0 minutes you have available)
Is it the firmware (I doubt it, I can't see what the firmware's got to do with a delayed lock up, having worked fine up to that point)
Is it the motherboard (maybe....., to my mind it points to a component failure that allows an electric charge to build up and not dissipate, the only way to discharge it is to short the battery pins [with, I hasten to add, the battery removed!])
    font face="comic sans ms,sans-serif">
Has anyone within the Creative community successfully solved this problem Has anyone received a decent answer from Creative
I find it staggering that the guys at Creative have washed their hands of this problem. They, after all, are the most likely people to identify the problem - only they have a schematic of the motherboard that would allow them to investigate and locate the problem.
For the record the firmware I'm using is v .0.0.
Any guidance would be much appreciated,
    Victor

Is there really no one with an answer to this problem or have I overlooked a previous post that explained the fault.

  • Zen Sleek and battery charg

I just purchased a Zen Sleek and I am currently charging it. The manual says it will take approx. 2 hrs. to charge, but it is running on 4 hrs.
It zipped past bars one, two and three. It is currently still showing as charging on the third bar, and has been like this again for 4 hrs.
How long does it take to complete, I'm hoping I don't have another bad Creative product on my hands.

It looks like I got my second defecti've Creative product in 5 months. FIrst, my Micro goes back for a refund because of the headphone jack, now the Sleek has an issue with the battery not fully charging. I read their knowledgebase, but I have found posts regarding others who have had to return their Sleek because of this defect.
Well, I will get a refund, and will NEVER touch Creative again, I have a Rio (which works great 00% of the time). Since they're gone, I will find a manufacturer who doesn't ship defecti've products at least in my case 00% of the time.
Go ahead, flame away, I'm not visiting this board anymore, so have fun. I'm not buying an iPod, but Apple doesn't ship crap at the rate this company does.Message Edited by Allen5 on 2-25-2005 2:34 AM

  • Zen Sleek Docking Station (Also Muvo V200 Battery Pack) Quest

Does anybody know when the Zen Sleek docking station will be back in stock, or is it in stock anywhere else? I was hoping to get it before christmas. Is there a new one coming out becuase of the Zen Sleek Photo release?
Also I have a Muvo V200, is the Creative? MuVo? NX / MuVo? TX Battery sold in the creative store compatible with this product?
    Thanks for the help

The battery pack for the V200 is a different size/shape to the one for the TX, NX, TX FM etc. More important I suppose is whether the actual MP3 module is the same size or not; whether the V200 module will fit in the TX battery compartment or not.
Creative's official answer will probably be that they are different. On first looks they appear different but someone with both players might be able to give you a better answer.
