Zen Sleek Firmware Upgrade, now my Zen is kap

First off, if the answer to this has been posted I apologise, Ive been trying to sort this out for about 4 hours now and I've tried every fix Ive found listed on this site.
ok, here goes
I wanted to get stuff from online music store, looked it up, found that firmware updgrade 2.0.03 was needed for Play-For_sure functionality.
Downloaded it, did all the bits n pieces, shut down everything, unchecked the detector etc etc etc, double clicked the the firmware to install, and it started.
About 2 mins in, the player reboots, and one of those annoying WinXP windows pops up asking what I would like windows to do each time I connect this device (A) use WMP0, (B) use mediamonkey or (C) Take no action. I selected C.
Player shut down, and the message onscreen was player was rebooting........90 mins later still the same thing.
I was loath to disconnect the player or fiddle with it in any way as I know from past expierence, messing with firmware upgrades can be tear jerkers, so I looked around this site before I did anything. On seeing nothing about firmware stalls I did the only thing I could, tried the firmware installation again, but my PC could no longer loacte the player.
I started trying everything listed, recovery mode, format, reload firmware, checking the USB cables on other PC's etc etc etc
My Zen Sleek is now, it seems, completely buggered. There is now no firmware on it, and my PC cannot locate it at all.
OS: Win Xp
Player: Zen Sleek 20gb
Firmware: (It was .00.05 then upgrade to 2.0.03)
Can anything be done?

I had the exact same problem as Drake. I tried to update the firmware, it didn't take, now my Zen Sleek has no firmware on it and the firmware update that I downloaded from Creative tells me that my player is not connected and will not let me install the updated firmware.
While the firmware download (ZenSleekP4S_PCFW_LB_2_0_03.exe) does not recognize my Zen Sleek, but Windows recognizes it, and it shows up as "Zen Sleek" in the device manager.
I installed the first hotfix from the KB article listed above. That worked fine. I tried to install the second hotfix, but Windows said that the 2nd hotfix was already installed on my system.
I then did the registry edit. There are two "CurrentControlSet" entries under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM. I navigated to the USB folder in each and changed the permisions for each.
I then uninstalled the player from the Device Manager and rebooted.
After reboot, Windows recognized the player again and it shows up correctly in the Device Manager.
However, the firmware update still tells me that the player is not connected and will not let me install the firmware.
Help, please.Message Edited by bsteggeman on 07-09-2006 07:39 PM

  • Firmware Upgrade now no file sharing

I recently installed a firmware upgrade on my E3000 to firmware version 1.0.04.build 6.  Since the upgrade I am unable to see any of my files on my network computer which is running windows 7.  Before everything was fine and I could stream to my dvd players and dish receivers.  I've tried everything I can think of to fix this problem.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.

  • Disrupted firmware upgrade, now no screen

    Hello,
I bought my macbook in July 06 and I love it. However have just encountered my first problem.
On Sunday night I downloaded all of the software updates, however wasn't able to install the firmware updates until tonight. I have been away since and not used it. I turned it on tonight and it kept shutting down and I read that the firmware update would fix it. So I followed the install instructions and shut down. When I turned it back on I could hear the mac booting up but I got a black screen. I have tried all of the troubleshooting I can find online and in my user guide but nothing has fixed it. I've even tried testing the video display using the install disk. This is my first mac in 15yrs so am a bit of newbie. I'm not entirely sure what version of OS it's running I do know it's 10.4 and now I can't get the install disk out. The fan is just running but nothing else is happening. Does anyone know of anything else I can try?
    Thank you in advance.
    Macbook 13"   Mac OS X (10.4)

So I followed the install instructions and shut down.
Are you certain there was nothing out of the usual during the firmware update? If there was, you may have to reinstall the update by first restoring your firmware to it's orig. point. See this page for more info....

Try booting with the 'Option' Key down and seeing if you're presented with your start up disc to start up from. Check out this page for some other trouble shooting tips...

The Zen Sleek Photo was a later model and may have included the fixes that the update for the Zen Sleek had. It could be the Zen Sleek's firmware upgrade was just to catch up.

  • Upgrading Zen Touch Firmware -- Crashed - Now Won't Work.

    Hi all,
First post on the forum so go easy on me! )
OK, I brought a zen touch a few years back, and it worked fine etc. Went travelling mid July last year and put it into storage.
Come home (UK) this month, got it out of storage and booted it up, all working fine, playing music, transfering new files fine etc.
Went online with it connected to my poota and decided to check for updates etc.
Thought it would be good to upgrade the firmware, so downloaded the latest version 2..0 ... backed up all my music, then ran the firmware upgrade, it said to plug in the touch, which I did, and off it went upgrading...
0 minutes went by, and it was stuck on blue bar, still saying it was upgrading. I looked at the touch and it said 'recovery mode'...
OK, I thought, it's still going, so off I went to make a cup of tea and came back about 5 minutes later ... still nothing, same thing on the touch, but the upgrade firmware on the poota had stopped responding and so I took the reluctant decision to unplug the touch and reboot the poota.
Whilst the poota was rebooting, I turned the touch off and back on, it said 'firmware problem' and asked me to go through recovery...
So I cleaned it, formatted it, then rebooted. It still said 'firmware problem' .. so, I clicked on reload firmware on the touch, and it said reload firmware via usb, I clicked yes, and it said erasing firmware and that it was ready for the firmware to be reloaded. So I went back to my poota and clicked on the firmware upgrade programme and it said connect the touch, which was strange as the touch was already connected....
The touch was recognised by the poota when I plugged it in, but the hard dri've size was only 20mb instead of 20gb, which I thought was a bit strange...
And this is as far as I can get.
The touch is recognised by the poota as it shows up on the dri've page, but its only got 20mb registered instead of the 20gb the touch is (although when cleaning the touch it said 20gb available on the touch screen!!) ... I can click on the touch dri've icon and it opens up the dri've but again only saying it is 20mb in size. And also very strange is that when I click on properties on the touch it says the firmware is 2.0.04-0.00.0 ....
When I click on the firmware upgrade programme it says the touch is not connected!?!
When I click on nomad it says not connected....
I've tried the recovery thingy but it says that the touch is not connected!!
    But it is connected!
    HELP!!
    Info that you might need:
    Zen Touch Model No: DAP-HD004
Poota running Win XP sp2 and also tried it on Win Vista Basic
Anything else you need to know just ask.
    Any help is really appreciated!!
    Cheerz
    Mike

Hmmmm, guess the problem is unfixable then....

  • Creative Zen Sleek and the Now Playing-part of the firmw

    Hi,
this week I got my Creative Zen Sleek. I'm very satisfied, except for one thing - the Now Playing-part of the firmware (the list with all the songs queued up). In the old Nomad Jukebox Zen firmware, the list was divided by artist or album name. On the Zen Sleek, however, the list is just going on without even showing which songs belonging to which album etc.
This is really annoying me - would it be possible to fix this, or at least consider the possibility for this to be integrated in the next firmware upgrade?
    Sincerely
    Hein Haraldson Berg

& Putting the X-Fi into Recovery Mode and selecting clean up seemed to fix the problem, but it does still come up randomly.
The clean up puts the player menus back to their defaults though... any chance that in a future fix for the player, this wouldn't occur?

  • Firmware upgrade on Zen Sl

I would like to install the new firmware on my Zen Sleek to upgrade to <SPAN>2.0.03.
<SPAN>Unfortunately, both the skinny paper manual, and the more detailed CD-ROM manual don't explain how to do this.
<SPAN>I did try to reset the Sleek by pushing a paperclip into the base and pressing the 'play/pause' button. I never got the option from the player to upgrade the firmware. Instead, it simply went back into the 'now playing mode'. I also downloaded the executable from creative.com that supposedly contained the WMP0 and new Firmware. When I ran this, however, no options appeared to permit a firmware upgrade.
    <SPAN>
    <SPAN>Thanks in advance.
    <SPAN>
    <SPAN>Robert

Basically plug in ur MP3 player. Download the firmware off the internet and double click onit with ur mp3player pluged in. Thats all there is to it.
    I own Zen Touch 20gig, Sennheiser MX400
OK, thats what I tried the first time.
    a) player plugged in;
    b) downloading the upgrade from creative, to wit:
Creative Software Suite for PlaysForSure-enabled Creative Zen Sleek Players (43.87 MB) 9 Sep 05
    c) clicking on the icon that was placed on my desktop;
    d) answering all questions the upgrade wizard asked as 'yes'
I'll try the process one more time, in case I missed something.

  • New Zen 8GB crashed during firmware update; now I can't get it to reboot or connect to a compu

I went and exchanged my "problematic white screen" ZEN 8GB for a new one this evening. When I came home, I attached the new unit to my computer and started to perform the required firmware upgrades. The upgrades downloaded fine, but after the installation started, they seemed to freeze. I waited for an hour before I did anything, but finally had to assume that the update had malfunctioned and would never finish on its own. At that point I clicked "cancel" in the window monitoring the upgrade installation, and thought I could just start the process anew. Unfortunately, my computer no longer recognizes the ZEN when it's plugged into a USB port.
I rebooted my computer, just in case that was the problem, but it still can't find the ZEN when searching for devices to AutoUpdate. As for the Zen itself, I can turn it on and off, but the screen remains black (i.e., no info on screen). If I reset it, the screen flashes the word "Creative" only. If I try to do a Recovery, I can't get any text to appear on the screen. I can't even reformat the ZEN via my computer because they're no longer speaking. I assume that the interrupted firmware installation caused this problem, and that the ZEN just doesn't have enough of an operating system installed to work properly. Is there any fix for this that I can tackle myself Or, is it back to the store to return this one, too I have noticed a lot of white screen flashings as I've been working with the new ZEN, so perhaps this just wasn't meant to be. Any words of advice are certainly appreciated, however.

Same happened to me and I only had the thing a few hours. I may leave it connected overnight to see if the battery needs charging but if nothing happens it's going back. I've tried plenty of suggestions. The Creative screen flashes on when I plug it in but then just sits there. Reseting does nothing and how can you do anything to it if it's not recognised by the PC. Vista did see it before the update attempt. Wondered whether to throw XP back on.
Do I have to resort to the new ipod Nano
OK I've done it. Somewhere on this forum it said to disconnect the Zen from the PC.
Now at the same time, press and hold the play/pause button, put a pin into the reset button and hold down the on/off switch (yes all 3 in that order at the same time). Recovery mode came on and I tried to uninstall the firmware update from previously - it didn't do it but I updated the latest firmware again anyway and this time it worked. I guess the last attempt didn't take.

  • Creative zen firmware update now trouble with creative media sou

I wanted to start downloading music from an online store and was advised that I needed a firmware upgrade for my creative zen, which I did (version 2.2.02) and could download music. However since I have done this my zen is no longer recognised when I connect to my pc - which is running on Windows XP. I took advice from creative and reloaded my firmware after starting my player in recovery mode and then I reloaded the creative media source organiser software. After that I could find the player in the organiser but everything was laid out differently with all my music in folders which made it really tricky to navigate.
The icon is this grey thing which doesnt look like a creative at all! Although I can move files around it is still not recognised on the bottom right of my pc and I can't safely remove the hardware because of this. I am also having problems with syncing from the pc library to the zen and it is not picking up duplicate files but adding them again so I am getting loads of copies of the same music - nightmare. When I am deleting it is just not recognising and I have been through this process a few times now and its getting pretty tiresome!
Should I reinstall the organiser again and do a clean up in recovery mode?

The Zen MicroPhoto is an MTP Device.
    Minimum System Requirements:
Microsoft? Windows? XP (Service Pack or higher)/XP 64-bit
You might find a work-around for not having the minimum system requirements in this thread or this thread.

  • No power after firmware upgrade on nomad jukebox zen xtra

I have the nomad jukebox zen xtra 30gig that froze up over a year ago after i tried to install the firmware upgrade. After the unsuccessful attempt, the mp3 player stopped working.... I mean no power at all. I've changed the battery and recharged the battery from an outside source...still no luck. I can't even try any of the suggestions anyone gives on this site because I have no power.Does anyone have this problem? More important, does anyone have this problem and know of a solution?I've already set my pc back to wmp 0, I have the firmware on the desktop waiting. Now all I need is some power on this unit so that i can try some of the suggestions that seems to be working for people. Thank you

I have the same problem too, but my unit is a?Creative Normad Junebox Zen Xtra 40GB. I was trying to find a solution to my problem when I read about your problem. I have pressed the reset button, on / off switch, removed the battery, reinstalled the battery, and nothing seems to work. I was hoping you?might get a solution to this problem, so that I might be able to fix my MP3 player. If I hear of a solution, I will let you know, thanks for sharing. Issue:? While updating the firmware to the Zen Xtra 40 GB, the unit powered down and?has never came on again. There seems to be no real reason why the unit should not power up. The battery and the AC adapter are working correctly. I am very disappointed in Creative...

  • ZEN TOUCH 20GB - Stuck in Recovery Mode, during Firmware upgrade. HEL

    Ooooh dear.
Me and my Zen Touch are completely stuck. Decided to upgrade the Zen's Software and Firmware and am now in deep trouble. Here are the steps I took.
First I sensibly backed up the 2000 songs on the player to my computer. Then I updated the MediaSource software and restarted the computer. Then I decided to go for the big change and downloaded the new PlayForSure firmware installation and that's where the problem starts - It never completed the installation, which I had to manually stop. I knew as part of puting this new Firmware onto the player, the Zen would be wiped clean, which it has. However, I now cannot get it out of recovery mode and it will not respond to attempts to download the new (or any) Firmware onto it.
    What I now get is:
-Plug the Zen in, the computer recognises that there is plug and play equipment attached and makes the appropriate noise.
-The Zen will switch itself on as a response (or I can do it manually), with a normal-looking startup. It then briefly flashes a screen saying "Firmware Problem" before going into recovery mode.
-If I choose Clean Up, it takes a few seconds to clean the now empty disk, and returns to the recovery menu
-If I choose Format All, pretty much the same as Clean Up
-If I choose Reload Firmware, it warns me that the firmware will be erased. And asks if it should reload it via USB. You say 'yes' and it briefly flashes up "Start firmware update now" before returning to the recovery mode menu.
And finally, if I select Reboot, that's exactly what it does; the computer recognises that it's turned off, makes the noise, and recognises when it's turned on again.
Trying to download the Firmware from the computer, however, has turned into a nightmare. I've tried downloading the PlayForSure firmware and old Firmware from the files on my computer (running XP, by the way). And I've also tried prompting the Zen starting up the Media Source software, BUT they all claim that the player is NOT connected! Even though it is! The Zen switches on and Windows makes a sound every time I connect or disconnect it!
So what to do? I'm stuck in this vicious circle and no matter what random tricks I try, I can't get out. The player needs Firmware, but the software on the computer claims the player's not connected.
The player is now more than a year old, so I can't return it, and Creative's less-than-generous telephone support is not an option, so I'm left to any imaginati've and kind-hearted subscribers to this list to offer suggestions.
    HELP!

My son?s Zen simply turned on one morning and refused to do anything except enter recovery mode, giving a firmware problem error and Creative Zen v0.0.58After an hours research I solved the problemI hope this helps someone out, but remember anything you do is your responsibility not mine, continue at your own judgment

  • Zen Micro Firmware Upgrade 1.01.03: Problems when Downloading and Installing the Upgr

Yesterday I downloaded the new firmware upgrade .0.03 to my computer without problems. I then attempted to open the upgrade and initiate transfer to my Zen Micro unit through my USB 2.0 cable. I kept getting a dialog box, informing me that there was an interference problem... So I shut down my Norton anti-virus and my Zone Alarm firewall, and tried again, and again, and again. I was unable to initiate the transfer program...
I was about to contact you this evening for advice, but I decided to first switch my USB cable to another connector and try one more time. Surprise! It worked... A rather long connection, but the upgrade is now in my Zen Micro unit, just where it's needed...
I've had my USB cable connected to what I believe is a USB 2.0 connection on my computer, and I often see the "not connected" dialog box. Each time this happens, I disconnect the cable from the Zen Micro unit, then reconnect it... Bells and whisltes sound, and I'm connected again, until a few minutes later I get the "not connected" dialog box yet again... Is this a normal procedure?
Now, tonight I plugged the USB cable into what I've always considered to be a slower USB connection point... Mybe that's why the transfer took so long? But it stays connected indefinitely... no "not connected" dialog box.
I've been having other transfer problems through the USB 2.00 connection point. I downloaded 23 tracks to my Zen Micro yesterday afternoon, and three of the tracks didn't make it... Frustrating as hell...
I'd appreciate any comments from my peers, since everyone here has more experience than me...
    kooch

    koochiching,
Try turning off the Media Sniffer feature from MediaSource and try updating the firmware again.

I went ahead and updated it anyway. One little thing I noticed was now the volume only goes up to 25 like my Zen Touch instead of 40 or whatever that it did before. Same loudness, different numbers only. Other than that, I have not noticed anything different, but it seemed to work OK scrolling through a song with the old firmware. I did not, obviously, do a detailed comparison.

I have been using the .0.03 firmware, but recently I read http://forums.creative.com/t5/MP3-Players/Zen-Touch-Custom-EQ-Frequencies-Wrong/m-p/64205" and wanted to try out the .00.06 firmware. Comparing from memory and using custom EQ, lows and mids sound much more clear now while bass is a bit more on the light side.

    Major problem solved.
    Already upgraded to new firmware.
    I do it by:
    1. uninstall all creative application and plugin.
    2. using registry cleaner to clean the registry.
    3. downgrade WMP to WMP0
    4. Detected by WMP as MTP device, loading firmware upgrade, closed WMP. upgraded.
Now it Working fine already, just still have some problem is:
. Only WMP can detect it, all creative application can't detect it..
    thanks anyway.
