Zen Sleek Headphone Prob

I got my Sleek around September of this year, and have enjoyed it so far...But just a few moments ago, as I listening to music, I noticed that the left side of my earphones that came with the device were dead. Gone. Then I plugged in another set of headphones and had the same problem. I had listened to it earlier today with no problems, but now this has sprung up.
Any suggestions?

If you're getting the same problem with two pairs of headphones it's most likely the headphone socket has failed. Sounds like you need to get a replacement.

  • Zen Sleek Harddisk prob

Does anyone know how much it costs to have the hard disk replaced on the Zen Sleek? I bought the 20 gig player last Christmas and it froze up on me a couple of weeks ago. Cannot get it out of recovery mode. I am a little ticked off that a 250.00 player would just stop working and of course my warranty has expired. The only solutions that I can find are:? smack the thing around till it works again and send it in for repair. I am hesitant to beat up my mp3 player and I really don't want to mail the thing off to who knows where for repair. Any ideas? Thanks?un-happy camper:angry:

Yes I have. I have hit that reset button soooo many times. I tried thumping on it too, but, I am afraid I might do it too hard. At this point thought I am not sure what I have to lose.Shannon

  • Zen Sleek Freezing Prob

    Once upon a time...
My Zen Sleek froze on the welcome screen when I tried to turn it on, displaying just "CREATIVE". When I get home, I try to use recovery mode. I select "Reboot" though the same happened again. I tried just leaving it though after 2hrs, the battery had gone (it wasn't fully charged). When I plug it in to the mains, it freezes again.
I emailed Creative Customer Support about the issue and they recommended that I format the dri've, which I was reluctant to do as I had important data on the removable disk partition.
Eventually, I weighed out the odds and decided that the data stored was not all that important, so I started the format.
That was at am this morning. it is now half past 0pm and it is still displaying "Formatting.." with no indication as to how long it will take or whether it is doing anything. it may have frozen again?
    Any Ideas?

I had the same problem with my zen sleek when i first got it, and i tried reformatting (which doesn't affect the contents of the dri've as the user manual states) and that still didn't work and it froze up probably 5 times in one day.... soooooo, i did the system reboot screen, deleted the firmware, installed the new one i downloaded from the creative support website and it's been running fine since.

  • Zen Sleek Connection prob

    Hey all.
I've had my Zen Sleek for about a year, and aside from having to reset it sometimes, it hasn't given me that many problems.
So, today I went to go put some new songs on it, and the player would not connect. My computer made the noise that it usually does when I connect something, but it didn't say "Docked" on the screen of the player, and I wasn't able to click anything in the media explorer.
I did a disc clean up on the player, and reset it, and tried all of the USB ports on the computer...and nothing. Help?Message Edited by mandimoo on 08-4-2006 03:57 PM

I have Windows 2000 so this means I "can't" buy Zen Sleek Photo because it requires Windows XP?
Or is it possible to use Zen sleek photo in Windows 2000 somehow. I don?t need WMediaplayer (0) or Creative MediaSource, they are not so important in use I think.
Can I install drivers to W2000?

  • Zen sleek usbport prob

Alright, well this is how it goes. I had the problem installing the cd so i uninstalled quicktime and that did the trick. After that i did everything i was told and then when promted to connect the sleek with my computer i did what it said put the plug into the usb port on my comp. I have a hp pavillion 750n whatever that means and i believe that my usb ports are fully functional. Yet it says that i have put a hi speed usb into a low speed usb port, ok got that but it says i should still be able to transfer music just at a slower speed. yet when i click on the media it says i dont have the player connected. So i came on here and really didnt understand how to do what some of you were saying i went and tried to dwnl the firmware for it even though i dont know what that is and it said that it only supports windows xp with service pack installed i have that windows xp pro with service pack what else do i need to do to get this thing to work. By the way i dont know very much about computers so keep that in mind. thanks

I didn't think SP was required, but I guess it's possible. It definitely needs Windows Media Player 0 also, so make sure that is installed.
It might be that you have some USB issue with your PC and the player, so if the above doesn't work then try connecting to another PC to see if the player is recognised. A simple test.

  • Zen Sleek Photo, Connection/software prob

I bought a Zen Sleek Photo 20 GB, installed the software, recharged the battery and connected it properly to my pc. Now my PC gives me a message that it can install the driver, wich I thought i already had by installing the software. anyways, I click OK, but it doesn't seem to find anything, and it also says this, so I click [X]
I register online, all the codes and whatsoever, click Creative Zen Sleek Photo Media Explorer and... nothing 'Your creative Zen sleek photo isn't connected to your PC' it says, but it totally is!
So my pc seems to recignise my Sleek Photo as being a 'Zen Creative' but the software doesn't! something's odd here, since I properly installed, registered and connected it. On 3 different USB's, both direct ports as Hubs.
Now I might also include that although my pc seems to recognise the Sleek Photo, on-screen of my Sleek Photo, there is no indication whatsoever that it notices it's connected to the PC.
I read something about the Firmware ( which I can't install since I don't have Service Pack ).
The MediaSource Organiser seems to be working fine though.
I re-installed the Software TWICE, reseted and disk-cleared the Zen Sleek Photo, but nothing seems to work. can someone help me? I'm really desperate for help
And i totally don't want to have spent ?99.95 ( Plus ?9.95 for some kick-ass headphones ) for nothing here
I think I posted about everything hee now. any ideas or comments? thanx in advance.

  • Missing metal insert for headphones on zen sleek photo

I have a zen sleek photo and the little metal insert that goes where the headphones plug in fell out and I can't find it and was wondering if anyone knew how I might get another one. I don't even know what it is called but its the little metal thing where you plug your headphones into.
    Thank you!

<EM>I posted this to your earlier posting:</EM>
I have noticed this when I have used my Sleek Photo with other headphones (I don't use the out of the box ones).
This usually happens when you have Smart Volume enabled. I would go to the main menu screen, then choose system-->audio settings-->Smart Volume, and see if this is set to "on". If it is, try turning it off, and see if the volume improves.

  • Zen Sleek - Undocking freeze prob

    Hello -
Just purchased a Zen Sleek a few days ago and everything worked great until last night. I have been ripping all my CDs into the unit over the past several days with no problems. The unit is hooked into my computer with the USB cable - I load a few CDs into it - I unhook the unit from the USB cable - it reads "Please Wait..." and then after 30 seconds or so shows me the normal menu screens. As of last night it now freezes on the "Please Wait..." screen when I disconnect it from the USB cable and I have to use the paper clip reset technique to reach the reboot function. The unit works fine after that and the music that I loaded is there but now I have to reset/reboot the unit every time I disconnect it from the USB cable which is very annoying and obviously not something that should be happening especially since it never did the first few days I used it.
Any ideas? Is there something I should be doing before I disconnect the unit from the USB cable after loading music into it's Should I exit from the transfer program first? Try to power off the unit first? (I tried that and the unit would not shut off)
Any help is appreciated - thanks.

Yep, I would (a) recommend exiting the transfer program (b) run a disk cleanup from rescue mode.

  • Ipod cable/accessories for Zen sleek

I don't know why Creative decide to use a new connection for Zen Sleek instead of the standard mini 5 pin USB2 connection.
While looking for a new cable (and a compact car charger) for my new Zen Sleek, I noticed that the new Philips HD MP3 player and all Ipod seem to have the same kind connection.
Have anyone attempted to use Ipod cable on Zen Sleek? It seems that most after market accessories are made for Ipod so it would be very very nice if Zen Sleek uses the same connection. Perhaps I am day dreaming.

OK, don't get caught by this - there's a company that specializes in travel & replacement cables for cell phones, PDAs and MP3 players. Their name is Gomadic, and they have a very slick system - there's a standard USB male on one end and a receptacle like a mini-headphone receptacle on the other. You can get a very wide variety of end-connectors that plug into that receptacle and mate with just about anything you can think of. They claimed to have the connector for the Sleek, and I ordered it. However, when I got it, the end connector was a standard mini-USB male. I called them and they said "oops!" They just found out that Creative put this oddball connector on the Sleek while all the rest of Creative's players use the mini-USB. I can still use the thing for my camera and some other stuff though. They told me to keep it and gave me full credit on my credit card because of the error. So, I guess if you want a free travel connector for any of your kit that uses a mini-USB, order the cable for the Sleek from them before they correct their website!

  • Best way to hook up Zen Sleek to Car Ster

    Dear fellow Zen owners,
I have a Zen sleek and love it. I want to integrate this into my car as much as possible. I have a Alpine CDA9827 Reciever with an aux in. I just ordered a PIE LD- Amp that amplifies the aux input to make the zen sound better.
What I am mostly looking for is a vent mount that will fit this player. Another thing I am looking for is a DC power adapter for the sleek in my car so the backlight will always be on showing what is playing.
I found this dc adapter on the creative site.
    http://us.creative.com/products/product.asp?category=3&subcategory=&product=2204
I dont understand how that will plug into the sleek unless the picture is wrong.
Please give me feedback on a good mount for this and a dc adapter.
    Thanks,
    Mike

well, that adapter plugs into the headphone jack, I assume. They need to start releasing some FM transmitters that hook up to the Sleek's dock connector, which would charge it and have music playback. Like the iPods have.
Or, can that connector at the bottom even be used for audio output, or is it just for USB transfer/charging? Can anyone confirm this?
Edit: *most* iPod mounts should fit the sleek, may it be a bit looser or tighter. Both players' dimensions are near the same. I haven't seen or heard of any specifically made for the Sleek. Creative needs to get on the ball as far as accessories go..Message Edited by shotgunxmessage on 09-5-2005 06:6 AM

  • Poor sound quality zen sleek 20gb URGEN

The sound on my Zen Sleek recently became horrible and scratchy and distorted. I think it was caused by me turning the car on while the player was plugged in to the car stereo via the headphone jack. I really need this problem fixed ASAP.Message Edited by Jacob22 on 0-8-20072:00 PM

I own a 20GB 4th generation iPod, as well as a new 4GB nano. One of the things that absolutely FLOORED me was that my nano sounds WAY, WAY, WAY better than my old 4th generation iPod!! And, my 4th gen sounds great---it's just that the nano is SOOOOOOOOOOO much clearer, cleaner, crisper, etc.! I used the same set of Apple ear buds to do extensive A/B comparison testing. The audio quality of the nano BLOWS me AWAY!
As to the comment that the nano uses the same circuitry as the shuffle, IMHO I'm not sure this is correct. I read the recent interview with Steve Jobs in TIME magazine regarding the new nano. He said that EVERYTHING about the nano is 100% ENTIRELY NEW, from THE GROUND UP. He said EVERYTHING with the nano was engineered from scratch, with nothing borrowed/carried over from previous models. Therefore, I can't see how the nano would share the same audio circuitry as the shuffle. If so, this would be a HUGE carry over from a previous iPod product.
I could most certainly be wrong, though, as I'm only basing my comment on what Mr. Jobs was quoted as saying in this recent TIME magazine article covering the nano.
