Zen Sleek Photo cannot be switched

From one day to another, my new Zen Sleek Photo can not be switched on anymore. Yesterday I charged it, so I am a bit worried. Especially because the on/off button still is lit, but nothing happens when I press it.
Usually when the batterie is low, the screen lits with that message when I press the on/off button. In combination with the fact that I charged the device yesterday and did not use it that much, I am worried something is broken.
Or can somebody say it is still possible with the on/off button lit, that the battery is too low to display the message that it needs to be charged? But still, how can it be that the player is empty, if it automatically switches off when nothing happens? Sure, it's possible I left it on while playing, but it plays album time and then sto
ps.
And if it doesn't detect any user-activity, it automatically switches off after 5 minutes.
Has anyone got the same problem and knows the sollution for it's
Please help, thanks!!
Best regards,
Maarten (Holland)

Hi Maarten,
If it's already charged, try resetting the player to see if it will start up then. If it hasn't been charged or you're not sure, leave it charging for a while first and then try the reset.
If this does not help, then I would advise contacting Customer Support directly for assistance, as there could be a problem with the unit.

  • Zen Sleek Photo Freezes/Locks Up after about 5 minutes usage (need to drain battery to recov

    Hi,
My 20G Zen Sleek Photo has just recently transformed itself into a useless brick.
No matter what I try and do, it always ends up freezing after about 5 minutes usage. When you force a reset it does unlock but when it comes back on it sticks on the Creative "copyright" start up screen.
I've reformatted and re-installed the firmware several times but with the same result.
    font face="comic sans ms,sans-serif">
The only time it totally unlocks is when you either:
() let the battery fully drain and then recharge it or
    (2) you disconnect the battery lead and then press the On/Off switch for several minutes.
I've looked everywhere for a solution/reason but nothing. You find plenty of people with the same problem but no answers. Surely someone knows how to fix the problem
Is it a faulty battery (unlikely because mine charges up fine and holds it charge well)
Is it the hard dri've (very unlikely since the player can start up correctly [given the above recovery procedure] and play tracks within the 5-0 minutes you have available)
Is it the firmware (I doubt it, I can't see what the firmware's got to do with a delayed lock up, having worked fine up to that point)
Is it the motherboard (maybe....., to my mind it points to a component failure that allows an electric charge to build up and not dissipate, the only way to discharge it is to short the battery pins [with, I hasten to add, the battery removed!])
    font face="comic sans ms,sans-serif">
Has anyone within the Creative community successfully solved this problem Has anyone received a decent answer from Creative
I find it staggering that the guys at Creative have washed their hands of this problem. They, after all, are the most likely people to identify the problem - only they have a schematic of the motherboard that would allow them to investigate and locate the problem.
For the record the firmware I'm using is v .0.0.
Any guidance would be much appreciated,

Is there really no one with an answer to this problem or have I overlooked a previous post that explained the fault.

  • Zen Sleek Photo Installation Wo

Hey guys, I just bought a Creative Zen Sleek Photo MP3 player and i'm having trouble installing the driver. After plugging it in, windows detects the new hardware and goes thru the installation process the driver. At the end it tells me:
    "Cannot install this Hardware.
There was a problem installing this hardware.
    MTP Device
An error occured during the installation of the device.
The required section was not found in the INF."
There are only two INF files, one located in the root and one within Walmart/Files. I manually directed the installation wizard to both directories but the end result for both is the same. Nothing Happens.
Just wondering if anyone has encountered a similar problem or if there is a fix around for this?
    Cheers

Hello, I have had the same problem and had great help when I emailed creative.com. They recommended I uninstalled the software, disabled my broadband and disabled my spamkiller and security packages. Once I had done this I reinstalled and now my player was recognized immediately. This had never happened before. I now can download. Hope this helps Forgot to say also I had to make sure I had windows service pack 2.

  • Broken Zen Sleek PHoto a week after a Broken Zen Mi

hey folk,i have a problem my creative sleek photo was working perfectly one minute when i was arranging my music on it and then 5 minutes later i went upstairs to listen to it and it wouldn't switch on. i plugged it into the pc and it still wouldnt work. i only purchased it off my mother a week ago and she only had 400 songs on it and it was never really used. the reason i purchased it is because last week my zen micro stopped working and creative told me it was problably the harddri've and said send it in for repair which i didnt as it was out of warrenty. but now my new zen sleek photo is gone. i am so upset and the money this is costing me is alot. i need some advice. does anyone think it could be down to my pc??thanksstephen

Alright so after messing with it till the wee hours of the morning, I have come to the conclusion that it only freezes when trying to transfer certain songs. However, ALL my songs are in the MP3 format. But whenever I try to transfer them, it gets to 00% then freezes. Then I have to CTRL+ALT+DELETE to end the program, clean up and reboot my Zen, then its ready to go again. Still confused.

  • Zen Sleek Photo Re-loading Library at Powe

My Zen Sleek Photo Player has started acting weird on me. When I power it up it goes through a re-building library phase before the powerup is complete. When it is powered up, it plays my music; but doesn't indicate what music it is playing on the screen. I cannot get my pc to recognize that my player is connected to it, so I cannot download music or podcasts. Some of my music has disappeared and all of my saved podcasts are gone. I have gone through the reboot routine, but to no use. Have I played my beloved player to death? Anyone have similar problems or suggestions. I trolled through the message board but didn't find a similar problem. Thanks.

You can try formatting but take note that you will lose the contents in the player. You might also want to try connecting to another computer or try using another usb cable to see if it gets detected.
If that still does not work or is not possible, you probably need to contact support to get it sorted out.

    Hi,
I just bought a used ZenSleek photo 20G for my dad (67 year old guy who wants to listed to audiobooks), but I cannot get the device to connect to my Vista-run 32bit HP laptop.
Here's the strange thing: I have a ZenSleek Photo of my own (at least 2 years old) that works perfectly. I plug it into my laptop with the same cable, in the same USB port, and the computer automatically opens the organizer for me to put stuff on the player.
Both players show a Firmware of .0.0.
I've tried hooking up the *new* player to my husband's desk top (also Vista) and it doesn't recognize the player either. I've downloaded all the new Vista 32bit drivers again. I have WindowsMedia Player . I've also reformatted the player and rebooted it. The player is charging when hooked up to the USB, so something seems to be connecting, right?
I've been reading about Vista/Creative incompatibility a lot, and am wondering if I need to find a computer with XP and Window's Media Player 0 to play around with firmware on the new player. But why would my Zen work great and this other player that is exactly the same model not?
Have I just bought a piece of junk? or is there something I need to do?
    Any suggestions are welcome.
What does Device Manager report on the device? I would not mess with the firmware just yet. Did you have the Creative software on the computer before or did you install it trying to get recognized? It should be recognized on Vista without any other software installed. Does the player turn on when you connect it or does the battery icon just flash for charging?

  • Zen Sleek Photo Transfer Probl

For the past 2 weeks or so my Zen will not upload music files. The software does not recognize that it is connected at all. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling and also following the suggestions provided on the site. Is there anything else I can do?
Also, another minor problem is that it does not display the name of the songs that are playing.. instead it says select music to play

  • Zen Sleek Photo, the longer I own it, the more irritated I

I've had mine for maybe /2 years now, and I am starting to desire an MP3 player that actually works smoothly. Sometimes the screen freezes and makes songs skip. Half the time, the sorry software known as Media Explorer freezes and will not let me transfer my music. I tried Media Player for transfers, and it does not even "see" my Zen. And none other of the Creative programs can get around this problem for some reason. Theres a couple gigs of music on my computer that cannot be transferred because of "Unspecified Error"s occurring. I've tried shortening file names, posting on here, numerous resets, and nothing works. Bit rate does not appear to have anything to do with it either, as all the songs that will not transfer do not share a uniform bit rate.
Next, has Creative ever offered any type of Update for the Zen Sleek Photo?
    No.
To date, I've never seen one. Unless someone can show me otherwise. This appears to be the blacksheep of the family, because there is practically zero support for this thing. I would imagine that the majority of the problems I've had could be fixed with a simple update, but I may try to pee a hole through a rock instead. At least I know thats possible.
    Zune, you're looking pretty good.

Have you tried connecting to another computer? not yours maybe friend owns a Vista? You would not have to install ANY Creative software to check.Rear usb ports. Did you have WMP prior to the SP3 update? I know that is a special cord for the player ( i own a sleekphoto) are you using the cord that is made by Creative & not a generic one?The genreics can damage your device. Did you reinstall WMP?You won't need to buy another player since it works.

  • Zen Sleek Photo Probl

Hi, I was wondering if anyone can help me. I've done a search through the board and have installed everything possible to get my Zen Sleek Photo to work without much success. I've installed Mediasource 5 and the Playsforsure thing, and Vista does recognise my player. I can transfer individual MP3's to my player, but it just seems to store them, it doesn't play them (and they don't show up once I've disconnected from the computer). I'm getting really frustrated with it now, so if anyone can help I'd appreciate it!

You have an application open that is currently using the the Sleek. That is why you have the icon in the System Tray and the "docked" icon on the player. The firmware installation program is experiencing a conflict as it cannot access your player since it is being accessed by another program and returns the message of "not connected"
Try moving the firmware installation program to your Windows Desktop and closing all applications. If you are able to get the player connected and not have it display the "docked" icon, you should be able to install the firmware. If Windows prompts you asking you what you want to do?when you connect the player, select Do Nothing.

Windows Media Play cannot access the file. The file might be in use, you might not have access to the computer where the file is stored, or your proxy settings might not be correct.
This happens to me every time I try to sync music to my Zen Sleek Photo.
Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

  • Zen Sleek Photo - Problems with connecting device to the comput

My zen sleek photo gives me this error message when I try to transfer nusic from Napster "Your portable device has stopped responding. To restart your transfer, please disconnect and reconnect your device. Tracks will begin transferring when the device is connected."?I have tried disconnecting and reconnecting, this does not work. I have also tried the recovery mode using the Clean up and reboot options. I am afraid to try Format and Reload Firmware, since my MP3 player continues to stop responding. I have also tried?installing Creative Zen Sleek PlaysForSure Firmware 2.0.03 and I get this error message "Your player is not connected please connect your player."? Disconnecting and reconnecting does not work here either. I was successful in initially transferring about 50 - 75 songs from Napster. I have also been able to and still can'transfer music from cd's to my MP3 player. It?appears as though Creative Media Explorer, Creative Media Source Player and?Creative Media Source Organizer are all operating OK with my MP3 player. Could my problem be related to MTP?Any Ideals?ThxRoger Conejo

Can you transfer songs using Media Source, or Media Explorer? Yes, does not work.
What do you mean by this? Can you transfer songs using these programs yes or no?
Sorry, no I can't transfer music. You would first have to let WMP scan the folder where the songs are. Once they are in your Library section right click the songs and choose Add to Sync List. Then click on the Sync tab and click on Start Transfer and it should transfer over. After choosing Add to Sync List. Then click on the Sync tab and click on Start Sync I get this error message from WMP "Windows Media Player cannot access the file. The title says ti all. I am on Vista 64, but have tried the well known (or at least well published) solution of trying to reinstall the firmware using XP. I was playing music, then the playlist ended, I switched to a different playlist and the player wouldn't play. I restarted my zen, and it froze at the logo screen. I didn't worry, figured I would flash it when I got home. Plugged it in, let is charge a while just incase. Tried to update it by just downloading the firmware and double clicking. Said the player was not attached, so I detached and reattached it... and found it stuck in recovery mode. Scanned it (clean up), formatted it (tears...), and then finally said screw it and removed the firmware. This was all on the Vista machine.
Why did you erase the firmware? The only thing you may have needed to do was to cleanup>reboot the player. The firmware updater file was written to be used on Xp with WMP0 ONLY so you will have to go back to a XP computer to reload the firmware. If the device completed the scan disc & format successfully then your hardri've should be fine. Charge the battery or have it connected to a wall charger so you don't have a dead battery while doing the firmware reload.

  • ZEN Sleek Photo & Windows 2000 p

I have recently purchased a ZEN Sleek Photo (firmware version .0.0e). I bought this from Argos, where it states quite clearly in the catalogue "Minimum PC specification Microsoft Windows 98SE/Me/2000/XP..." After finding the software refused to install on Windows 2000, I contacted Creative. Customer services refused to help, and I found their general attiture offensi've. On contacting Argos, their reply was "As it states on the website I can confirm that this item will only be compatible with operating system Windows XP and later systems." Well thank you Argos. Verry helpfull after already stating it works with Windows 2000!
I have found a latency driver
    http://us.creative.com/support/downloads/download.asp?DriverLang=033&searchString=+P4S_PCDR V_US__0_00.exe&Image.x=26&Image.y=3
This and WMP9 work with the player under Windows 2000, except that the track numbers are all -. I have found reports of this being a fault of WMP9. I then tried winamp, as it apparently works with the Sleek Photo.
    http://forums.winamp.com/showthread.php?s=9d604eed60033b9e5de774d3d597078d& threadid=238885&perpage=40&highlight=&pagenumber=3
It will not show the player at all (even after reinstalling drivers and winamp).
Can anyone help? I've no idea what to do next, and the player is currently a very expensi've paperweight.

I don't think this is going to help but here's what I've experienced with winamp:
I'm running xp/sp2. I was using winamp 5.2 and it would work with my zen touch and also with my iri'ver h0 (even though it would take a real long time detecting my iri'ver). Then I switched to winamp 5.24 and it wouldn't detect my iri'ver anymore, in fact, for some weird reason, winamp figured it was a cd dri've... Can't say if 5.24 worked with my zen touch since I didn't try it but it definitely didn't with my iri'ver. When I switched back to version 5.2 both players worked alright. Maybe somebody else knows if your problem could be a bug in the new version? There definitely is one with my iri'ver.
