Zen Sleek Photo, Video Format Nee

Can somebody please alter or hack a firmware for this device to play videos...
Yes I know there are other Creative players out there that will proberly offer Vid playback,, but to round this excellent device off - a video player would have been ideal, mpg or Mtv or QT format.
Yes Great for playing Mp3 and showing Photos, and listening to the FM..
But with a 20GB HD, a Video player would have been Great to watch Movies as well...
Maybe even Creative might be tempted ?Message Edited by nuttycomputer on 04-2-2006 04:33 PM

What do you mean probably offer video playback on other Creative players? The Vision:M can do all those things and more right now. It is the best player currently available. The Zen Sleek Photo is just Creatives color screen audio player. They are trying to reach every sector. Those that just want music, and those that want to spend a little more to get a video enabled player.

• Zen Sleek Photo - Video posibiliti

Hi,
Ive noticed that they managed to get video running on the ipod nano, thanks to someone making a firmware upgrade for it making it possible (http://www.gizmodo.com/gadgets/porta...ideo-44945.php for video and photos) I was thinking, surly the Zen sleek photo wouldnt have much bother doing this.. plus, having better storage than the nano, and a larger and better screen... i dont see why not ( the video encoding could be a free open source one)
Does anyone think this is possible?

Keep in mind, the ability to do video on the nano requires iPodLinux. This is not simply a "firmware upgrade", but a total replacement of Apple's firmware.
I'm not aware of anyone developing a "ZenLinux", so I wouldn't hold your breath.

• Zen Sleek Photo: Audible (.aa) Format Supp

I have been trying lately to load AudibleBooks (.aa) files onto my Zen Sleek Photo and it simply will not work. When trying to do it from inside AudibleManager it won't recognise the player and if I try dragging and dropping the .aa files onto the player using the Creative Media Manager it says "The format is not supported". I used to use a Zen Micro which worked with .aa files after a firmware upgrade but I can't find anything for the Sleek Photo. I think I found one for just the Sleek but not the Photo model. Is it not possible or am I missing something here?

Could someone answer this question. After hours reading through posts, I'm thoroughly confused as to whether WMP playlists actually show up identically in the Zen Sleek.

• Zen Sleek Photo Driver nee

I lost my zen sleek photo installation cd and now need the drivers, what should i do'? could anyone upload somewhere the installation cd image file?

I had the same problem. After stumbling around I finally clicked the "Identify Your Product" link in the "Downloads" section and then selected MP3 players. This gave me a page listing all the MP3 devices with their product numbers (http://93.95.7.84/SRVS/CGI-BIN/WEBCG....com,case=0848). From this page, I selected the Zen Sleek (NOT the?Photo!). That brought me to this page: http://us.creative.com/support/downl...ring=DAP-HD008.
I downloaded the latest DRIVER?there (version 2.0.00). Direct link: http://us.creative.com/support/downl..._US_2_0_00.EXE?When you're installing, it will say things about Nomad Jukebox, but just keep going. It worked for me. Hope that works for you also!

Many thanks to anybody who gives comments or signs it!
Zen Sleek Photo Pictures: See 2nd page!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I have just recieved my wonderful new Zen Sleek Photo 20GB, and right now I am only allowed to test it (Christmas present ^^)
I am very impressed with the player, absolutely wonderful
Of course there are a few problems/annoyances with the player.
I haven't been able to thoroughly look at the player, but a few things have come to my mind already.
I am sorry if this thread is perhaps too big :-/ But I really like the Creative MP3 players and want to enjoy my player as much as possible and recommend them to my friends.
>> Artist listings
The most annoying thing is with Artist names!
When you browse the artists, it looks for COMPLETE ONES, exactly as in the tag.
This is a very big problem for me... I would really prefer having it search IN the tags..
So if I look for Dr. Dre, it will find him with ANY of the features in the song.
I don't want it to display about 30 different ones with him in...
For example:
Dr. Dre
Dr. Dre, Mel Man
Dr. Dre, Hitman, Eve
Dr. Dre, Eminem
Dr. Dre, Hitman, Eve, Eminem
etc etc etc
This becomes very annoying and makes an extremely long list.
So what I would like to see, is that it just shows Dr. Dre as ONE artists, and then show his albums with ANY of the featured artists, not only solos.
Secondly......
>> Background Pictures
I have been looking around for images to add to my player as background pictures and found that there is no option to "fit to screen". When you view pictures it adjusts to the >> full-screen << size, not the actual menu size..
I think there should also be stretch/tile etc options.
>> Listen whilst viewing
I think it would be much much better to be able to listen to music whilst viewing pictures..it's just not the same :-/
>> Other formats
I think it is a shame you can only view jpegs on the Sleek Photo
It would be very easy to allow it to display PNG, GIF, BMP files and maybe even VIDEOS.
I am sure many people would be the sleek over another player because of that.
>> Pictures: Folders get image for thumbnail
This isn't much of an inconvenience, but it would be a nice little feature
So you can set or there is automatically an image set for the folder, so you don't have to wait for the address to display at the bottom. That is a bit too long sometimes too with the /pictures etc (If I remember correctly *hope*)
I really hope Creative gets around to making some additions to the firmware, user contact is the key to user satisfaction.
Something else I should say, is the products need updating on various area-specific creative sites. The Sleek wasn't even on some.
I couldn't search for any updates to the sleek photo as it wasn't on the US site for updates either.
Many many thanks for reading,
StephenR
EDIT: It may also be a nice feature to have album art displayed when you play a song Message Edited by StephenR on 2-7-2005 :43 PMMessage Edited by StephenR on 2-2-2005 04:48 AM
This range of players have always worked from tag data, so it will always show what's in the tags. If you want to see different data then it's a case of changing the tags.
Similarly the search works on start of string data, rather than searching as a substring. It might be too much for the small brain of this player to do substring searching, but still a good wishlist item. No Creative players do substring searching to-date.
<B>>> Background Pictures</B>I have been looking around for images to add to my player as background pictures and found that there is no option to <B>"fit to screen"</B>.     I guess it might be a case of adjusting the pixels and aspect ration of the file?
I don't have the player, so just a guess.
Still a nice wishlist for pictures you don't want to have to mess with.
<B>>> Listen whilst viewing</B>I think it would be much much better to be able to listen to music whilst viewing pictures..it's just not the same :-/
There's a petition on this for the Micro Photo. Clearly Creative have listened as the Zen Vision:M will be able to do this, and hopefully they'll backtrack firmware for the Micro and Sleek Photo to do it also.
<B>>> Other formats</B>I think it is a shame you can only view jpegs on the Sleek Photo It would be very easy to allow it to display PNG, GIF, BMP files and maybe even VIDEOS. I am sure many people would be the sleek over another player because of that.
Again, see the Vision:M. It does all this.
I couldn't search for any updates to the sleek photo as it wasn't on the US site for updates either.
Did you try the European site? Ultimately it's very new so they might not be any updates.
What with the similar release times of the Sleek Photo and Vision:M it might be that regions forego the Sleek Photo and replace with the Vision:M anyway.
• Broken Zen Sleek PHoto a week after a Broken Zen Mi
hey folk,i have a problem my creative sleek photo was working perfectly one minute when i was arranging my music on it and then 5 minutes later i went upstairs to listen to it and it wouldn't switch on. i plugged it into the pc and it still wouldnt work. i only purchased it off my mother a week ago and she only had 400 songs on it and it was never really used. the reason i purchased it is because last week my zen micro stopped working and creative told me it was problably the harddri've and said send it in for repair which i didnt as it was out of warrenty. but now my new zen sleek photo is gone. i am so upset and the money this is costing me is alot. i need some advice. does anyone think it could be down to my pc??thanksstephen
Alright so after messing with it till the wee hours of the morning, I have come to the conclusion that it only freezes when trying to transfer certain songs. However, ALL my songs are in the MP3 format. But whenever I try to transfer them, it gets to 00% then freezes. Then I have to CTRL+ALT+DELETE to end the program, clean up and reboot my Zen, then its ready to go again. Still confused.
• Zen Sleek Photo Re-loading Library at Powe
My Zen Sleek Photo Player has started acting weird on me. When I power it up it goes through a re-building library phase before the powerup is complete. When it is powered up, it plays my music; but doesn't indicate what music it is playing on the screen. I cannot get my pc to recognize that my player is connected to it, so I cannot download music or podcasts. Some of my music has disappeared and all of my saved podcasts are gone. I have gone through the reboot routine, but to no use. Have I played my beloved player to death? Anyone have similar problems or suggestions. I trolled through the message board but didn't find a similar problem. Thanks.
You can try formatting but take note that you will lose the contents in the player. You might also want to try connecting to another computer or try using another usb cable to see if it gets detected.
If that still does not work or is not possible, you probably need to contact support to get it sorted out.
• Zen Sleek Photo Transfer Probl
For the past 2 weeks or so my Zen will not upload music files. The software does not recognize that it is connected at all. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling and also following the suggestions provided on the site. Is there anything else I can do?
Also, another minor problem is that it does not display the name of the songs that are playing.. instead it says select music to play
I hope you know that there is more than one Zen?
• Zen sleek photo hangs when disconn
i manage the mp3 content of my zen sleek photo with the creative media explorer. almost each time i disconnect my zen sleek photo from my computer my player hangs. the only thing to do is to reset my player by pushing a paperclip in the reset hole. after that everything works fine again.
at disconnecting time my player is inacti've.
i am using microsoft windows xp with sp2.
this is really annoying.
so any help would be appreciated.
thx
thanks a lot for your answer.
but i have already cleaned up and also formatted my zen twice and i still have my disconnecting problem.
do i have to do anything before i can detach my player ? anything like telling my computer to send remaining data to my zen ?
i really don't know. it's weird.
• Zen Sleek Photo - Problems with connecting device to the comput
My zen sleek photo gives me this error message when I try to transfer nusic from Napster "Your portable device has stopped responding. To restart your transfer, please disconnect and reconnect your device. Tracks will begin transferring when the device is connected."?I have tried disconnecting and reconnecting, this does not work. I have also tried the recovery mode using the Clean up and reboot options. I am afraid to try Format and Reload Firmware, since my MP3 player continues to stop responding. I have also tried?installing Creative Zen Sleek PlaysForSure Firmware 2.0.03 and I get this error message "Your player is not connected please connect your player."? Disconnecting and reconnecting does not work here either. I was successful in initially transferring about 50 - 75 songs from Napster. I have also been able to and still can'transfer music from cd's to my MP3 player. It?appears as though Creative Media Explorer, Creative Media Source Player and?Creative Media Source Organizer are all operating OK with my MP3 player. Could my problem be related to MTP?Any Ideals?ThxRoger Conejo
Can you transfer songs using Media Source, or Media Explorer? Yes, does not work.
What do you mean by this? Can you transfer songs using these programs yes or no?
Sorry, no I can't transfer music. You would first have to let WMP scan the folder where the songs are. Once they are in your Library section right click the songs and choose Add to Sync List. Then click on the Sync tab and click on Start Transfer and it should transfer over. After choosing Add to Sync List. Then click on the Sync tab and click on Start Sync I get this error message from WMP "Windows Media Player cannot access the file. The file might be in use, you might not have access to the computer where the file is stored, or your proxy settings might not be correct."?Then I click More Information and get this message from the WMP Error Center? height="65" width="400"><!-- HEADGRAPH_END --><!-- Document last modified on Friday, July 30, 2004 at :27 AM -->]C00DD2: Cannot access the fileWindows Media Player cannot access the file.     The title says ti all. I am on Vista 64, but have tried the well known (or at least well published) solution of trying to reinstall the firmware using XP. I was playing music, then the playlist ended, I switched to a different playlist and the player wouldn't play. I restarted my zen, and it froze at the logo screen. I didn't worry, figured I would flash it when I got home. Plugged it in, let is charge a while just incase. Tried to update it by just downloading the firmware and double clicking. Said the player was not attached, so I detached and reattached it... and found it stuck in recovery mode. Scanned it (clean up), formatted it (tears...), and then finally said screw it and removed the firmware. This was all on the Vista machine.
Why did you erase the firmware?The only thing you may have needed to do was to cleanup>reboot the player. The firmware updater file was written to be used on Xp with WMP0 ONLY so you will have to go back to a XP computer to reload the firmware. If the device completed the scan disc & format successfully then your hardri've should be fine. Charge the battery or have it connected to a wall charger so you don't have a dead battery while doing the firmware reload.
• Creative Zen Sleek Photo Firmware Download does not recognize my pla
My Creative Zen Sleek Photo recently froze up. After restarting it, the "firmware problem" screen popped up. After reading up on it a bit, I decided to first clean, then reformat, and then reload the firmware. Everything went smoothly until I went to load the firmware back onto my Zen.
For whatever reason a screen pops up that says that my device is not connected to the computer, when it, in fact, is. I have tried several things including uninstalling Windows Media Player and repeatedly cleaning and reformatting in hopes that it would recognize it.
I have had no prior problems with the computer recognizing the device and I have loaded quite a bit of music onto it through this computer. Can anyone please help? Any more ideas? Anything will be helpful and appreciated. Thanks?
HelloHave a look at this thread http://www.anythingbutipod.com/forum...ead.php?t=6328?I had a similar problem with a Zen Sleek Photo and I am sure that this was the thread I used to recover the player when a firmware upgrade failed. Regards?
• Zen Sleek Photo Freezes/Locks Up after about 5 minutes usage (need to drain battery to recov
Hi,
My 20G Zen Sleek Photo has just recently transformed itself into a useless brick.
No matter what I try and do, it always ends up freezing after about 5 minutes usage. When you force a reset it does unlock but when it comes back on it sticks on the Creative "copyright" start up screen.
I've reformatted and re-installed the firmware several times but with the same result.
font face="comic sans ms,sans-serif">
The only time it totally unlocks is when you either:
() let the battery fully drain and then recharge it or
(2) you disconnect the battery lead and then press the On/Off switch for several minutes.
I've looked everywhere for a solution/reason but nothing. You find plenty of people with the same problem but no answers. Surely someone knows how to fix the problem
Is it a faulty battery (unlikely because mine charges up fine and holds it charge well)
Is it the hard dri've (very unlikely since the player can start up correctly [given the above recovery procedure] and play tracks within the 5-0 minutes you have available)
Is it the firmware (I doubt it, I can't see what the firmware's got to do with a delayed lock up, having worked fine up to that point)
Is it the motherboard (maybe....., to my mind it points to a component failure that allows an electric charge to build up and not dissipate, the only way to discharge it is to short the battery pins [with, I hasten to add, the battery removed!])
font face="comic sans ms,sans-serif">
Has anyone within the Creative community successfully solved this problem Has anyone received a decent answer from Creative
I find it staggering that the guys at Creative have washed their hands of this problem. They, after all, are the most likely people to identify the problem - only they have a schematic of the motherboard that would allow them to investigate and locate the problem.
For the record the firmware I'm using is v .0.0.
Any guidance would be much appreciated,
Victor
Is there really no one with an answer to this problem or have I overlooked a previous post that explained the fault.
