Zen Sleek problem! Blank, Black Scr

Ok, I installed the disk that was included and windows media 0. I charged my zen, but I cannot see anything but a blank, black screen. Sometimes I can hear music, sometimes I cant', can anyone help me out? I have unplugged the zen sleek a few times to try and test it, but to no avail. Thanks

Connect it to the mains adapter, and reset the player using the tiny recessed switch. If the screen is not revi'ved the player is faulty.

• Problems with my Zen Sleek Ph

I have my Zen sleek Photo for 3,5 months now.
Sometimes when i press the on/off button to turn it on, the "creative" part does not come, and the display stays black. The on/off button is blue tough. I have had this problem for 5 times now, and the last 4 times I just pressed the "reset" button and the problem was solved. This time when i press the reset button nothing happends. I have tried to come to recovery mode but that aint comming.
I have noticed this :
-When i put my player on Lock. and then press the on/off button the blue light goes off.
-When i connect my player to my computer the blue light goes on (recharging probably), but it does not detect my player.
PLease Help me

Ever since I've had my zen sleek the play button has been slightly further in that the rest of the buttons.
Recently, i have noticed that the bottom right options button is in much further, and only moves a little bit.
Anyone have any recent updates on this matter?

• Zen Sleek Harddisk Problem

Hi All,
This is the first time I've ever encountered this and it has me worried. The past few times I turned on my Zen Sleek it went into recovery mode. I figured I would do a disc cleanup, but that doesn't seem to be working. It sat for /2 hour without saying the disc had been cleaned. Anyway, I went to reload the firmware and then I ran into the harddisk problem. It won't let me reload the firmware and I can't get out of recovery more. I've shut down, rebooted, and paper clipped a dozen times & I'm still in recovery mode. Any sugesstions? I've only had the thing for 9 months and I've never dropped it. I would be a real shame and very disappointing if it died already. Any help is appreciated.
Thanks!

To be honest, you've already lost all the data because the dri've it's on has failed. Kinda like how your data on a CD is basically gone if you bust the CD in half.
As for why the dri've died, lots of things can kill a hard dri've. Excessi've vibration, shock, ESPECIALLY drops while the unit is on. And possibly the #2 hard dri've killer: jogging with the player. Or maybe it was a dud, it happens, that's why we have a warranty.
Gi've Customer Support a call, they'll want to do some troubleshooting to be sure, and then they can set you up for service. You can also email in if you don't have time to call, on the support page of this website.
Good luck!

• Zen Sleek Touchpad problem - scrolling down acts like a scroll

Yes, a strange problem I ran into today. Everytime I try to scroll down using the touchpad on my Zen Sleek, the cursor moves up instead. It's like the whole touchpad can only move the cursor in one-direction, up. Even if I try to use the rapid-scroll, the cursor just moves up rapidly
This happened yesterday, when on one bar of battery, my Sleek, around the afternoon froze while starting up and I could not restart it because I did not have a paperclip on me. After I get home hours later, I charge my Sleek since the battery died. And, now, today... I am at this rather strange problem.
And, my Sleek hasn't given me problems since I bought it a year ago besides the occasional lockups on one-bar of battery.

. Detach the Zen player from your PC , and ensure that the Zen Sleek is turned off.
2. Connect the power supply to the player.
3. Hold down the Play/Pause button while inserting a paper clip into the Reset hole
underneath your player, beside the data/power connector. Keep on holding the
Play/Pause button while you release the Reset button. The Rescue Mode screen will
then appear.
4. After the recovery mode has started, release the Play/Pause button
It will display the following options.
Clean Up
Scans the player and removes invalid links from its music library.
Does not affect music files themselves.
Format (All)
Caution! Erases all content!
Save a copy of your player's content before formatting.
Reload OS/ Firmware
Caution! Erases your player's firmware.
DO NOT select the Reload Firmware option unless you have access to a PC and you have downloaded the necessary firmware to install.
Reboot Reboots the device.

• Zen Sleek - MAJOR PROBLEMS Please He

Hey guys. First post here. Me and my sister are owners of the Creative Zen Sleek (monochrome screen). They worked very well when we first bought them, but a week later my sisters Sleek would not turn on, would freeze on the Creative and Zen Sleek screen, and make weird noises.
That one was exchanged promptly at the store we purchased it at for a new one. From then (December) till last week, they had worked great. My sister's Sleek had problems yet again. But this time, it wouldn't even get to the Creative or Zen sleek screen. It would just make weird noises. I was pretty apalled at that. Then a week later, the same exact thing happens to my Sleek. I've tried everything with both of them. Resetting via the bottom pin-hole, charging them, etc. I don't understand how all of them have broken. And yes, they have all been treated very well, not dropped, disconnected from the computer at the right time, etc.
Somebody please give me some advice, I have no idea what to do. I don't want to get new ones, and then have the same problem happen again within a few months. Don't get me wrong, I LOVED mine when it worked, it seemed heads and tails above the iPod. Please help.
-Brian

Update:
Both my sisters and my Zen Sleek have died. They pretty much won't function at all. If I actually boot it up, and go to play a song, the player will just freeze after a couple of minutes. When I go to recovery mode, I cannot clean the disk, and if I can, it will freeze again. I've re-uploaded the firmware twice already, and the same thing happens. What can I do? I can't accept defeat, and buy a new player, because I have no money. I've babied the player, and have only dropped it 3 times.

• Zen Sleek Photo - Problems with connecting device to the comput

My zen sleek photo gives me this error message when I try to transfer nusic from Napster "Your portable device has stopped responding. To restart your transfer, please disconnect and reconnect your device. Tracks will begin transferring when the device is connected."?I have tried disconnecting and reconnecting, this does not work. I have also tried the recovery mode using the Clean up and reboot options. I am afraid to try Format and Reload Firmware, since my MP3 player continues to stop responding. I have also tried?installing Creative Zen Sleek PlaysForSure Firmware 2.0.03 and I get this error message "Your player is not connected please connect your player."? Disconnecting and reconnecting does not work here either. I was successful in initially transferring about 50 - 75 songs from Napster. I have also been able to and still can'transfer music from cd's to my MP3 player. It?appears as though Creative Media Explorer, Creative Media Source Player and?Creative Media Source Organizer are all operating OK with my MP3 player. Could my problem be related to MTP?Any Ideals?ThxRoger Conejo

Can you transfer songs using Media Source, or Media Explorer? Yes, does not work.
What do you mean by this? Can you transfer songs using these programs yes or no?
Sorry, no I can't transfer music. You would first have to let WMP scan the folder where the songs are. Once they are in your Library section right click the songs and choose Add to Sync List. Then click on the Sync tab and click on Start Transfer and it should transfer over. After choosing Add to Sync List. Then click on the Sync tab and click on Start Sync I get this error message from WMP "Windows Media Player cannot access the file. The file might be in use, you might not have access to the computer where the file is stored, or your proxy settings might not be correct."?Then I click More Information and get this message from the WMP Error Center? height="65" width="400"><!-- HEADGRAPH_END --><!-- Document last modified on Friday, July 30, 2004 at :27 AM -->]C00DD2: Cannot access the fileWindows Media Player cannot access the file. • Zen sleek scr

i just got a zen sleek and i LOVE it... but i noticed that theres some stuff under my screen. I have already tried the canned air thing, and it didnt work well (but maybe im doing it wrong lol). There is like a piece of hair under the screen and when i try the canned air thing the piece of hair just moves around (it is like attached to the bottom of the screen), so i cant get rid of it. This is not a big deal, but if there is n e thing else i can try, help would be appreciated!

ryanoq9623 wrote:Yes there are definitely gaps around the screen. This is defintely a flaw in the design. Its like they didn't make any effort at all to seal the screen. I am aware that this kind of thing happens with a lot of lcd screens. But its not impossible to seal the thing. My cell phone is LCD, always in my pocket, and there is no dust in the screen. Its all about how the thing is designed.
On this point i have to agree, but at the end of the day it might not be all a design flaw, sure the design is to blame particulary if users of the Sleek can see "holes" around the screen. But as SSR has already suggested, this problem only appears to affect a small percentage of users of the sleek, so with that Creative are unlikely to revise the design of the sleek at this point in time. However, if more and more people are expirencing dust under the screen of their Zen Sleek, prehaps then Creative might look in to the issue.
But as other users have used compressed air to remove the unwanted dust, and been sucessfull at removing it, prehaps at present this is the only way any user can remove the rubbish that troubles them so.

• Zen Sleek Dust Under Scr

Ok, well, i've had my zen sleek now for say 2 weeks and i've got quite a bit of dust under the screen, is this a normal thing or am i just being picky? i've contacted the shop and they said it is not under there returns policy.... i've emailed creative, anyone else had this problem?

I'm sure if you rant and rave Creative (or where you bought it) might well give you a new player, but the same will happen again because the Sleek is not a sealed unit.
What Creative should have done is provided a good quality case with the player which would help a little. But ultimately you either li've with it or try and shift it with electronics-safe canned air.

• Zen Sleek Freezing/Locking up Problem, need major h

I just got my zen sleek a few days ago (thursday, december st), and it was working fine. Friday, after listening to the zen a lot during school, on the way back home i tried to start it up. I held the power button for a few seconds to turn it on, and then the power light turned on. But nothing happened. The power light was on, and that was it. plugging the zen into my computer/power didn't do anything, the only way to get it to start up was to use a paperclip to engage the reset switch.
I thought that was the end of it, but now every time the player is in a full shutdown it has to be reset to turn on. What's wrong? I tried reflashing firmware (2.0.03), i tried cleanup, nothing works.
Only thing i haven't tried is a full reformat.Message Edited by SolidxSnake on 2-04-2005 0:08 PM

i li've in ireland. i got a zen sleek. i like its features. the software and drivers i installed onto a winXP system without any hassle. but so far my experience with the little device has gone a little something like this:
connect the usb.
zen freezes.
unplug the usb
use the reset switch
give it a minute to get ready
plug in usb
computer recognises it, for a second
then the zen freezes
unplug usb
reboot
oh, it's rebuilding the library. fancy.
jump thru some menus, play the radio.
plug in the usb.
frozen again.
reboot.
try it with the harddri've spinning.
with a song playing.
no spinning, no song.
radio playing.
play the radio then jump back into a menu and plug in the usb real quick.
tada!
sometimes this works. sometimes no.
it's like i have to sneak up on the sleek with the cable.
when i finally do get it connected and go to import a song or album, 2 out of 3 times it freezes in the middle of transfer and all the songs ready to import change from "pending" to "failed."
i've loaded sixty some odd albums on here so far. sometimes with no problems at all. it's not the songs/files, because when they finally do load, they're completely without symptom.
frankly, this is getting ridiculous. trying to load one album today i must have reset the little bugger 5 times.
also, just curious, why is there an option to change menu orders when it doesn't actually change the menu order? all that section seems good for is setting checkmarks next to features that you want to have in your 'main menu.' strange.
don't get me wrong, i really like the player. i like the sound quality. i like being able to record from the crystal-clear radio. but man... this is getting out-of-hand.
any suggestions? please!?

• New Zen Sleek Connection Problem...Frustrated...Please He

Hi All,?My Zen Sleek died about 2 months ago. I sent it back to Creative and I think I was sent a new one which I really appreciate. Anyway, I hooked it up to my new computer and it is not recognizing my Zen. It makes the noise of being connected but then makes a noise that kind of sounds like it's disconnected. It's really strange. I don't know what to do. The Zen actually turned off after a little while & then I had to reset it. Any ideas what it could be? It's very frustrating as I have been waiting for so long to get it back. Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks.

Anyone?

Hi,
I just bought a used ZenSleek photo 20G for my dad (67 year old guy who wants to listed to audiobooks), but I cannot get the device to connect to my Vista-run 32bit HP laptop.
Here's the strange thing: I have a ZenSleek Photo of my own (at least 2 years old) that works perfectly. I plug it into my laptop with the same cable, in the same USB port, and the computer automatically opens the organizer for me to put stuff on the player.
Both players show a Firmware of .0.0.
I've tried hooking up the *new* player to my husband's desk top (also Vista) and it doesn't recognize the player either. I've downloaded all the new Vista 32bit drivers again. I have WindowsMedia Player . I've also reformatted the player and rebooted it. The player is charging when hooked up to the USB, so something seems to be connecting, right?
I've been reading about Vista/Creative incompatibility a lot, and am wondering if I need to find a computer with XP and Window's Media Player 0 to play around with firmware on the new player. But why would my Zen work great and this other player that is exactly the same model not?
Have I just bought a piece of junk? or is there something I need to do?
Any suggestions are welcome.
What does Device Manager report on the device? I would not mess with the firmware just yet. Did you have the Creative software on the computer before or did you install it trying to get recognized? It should be recognized on Vista without any other software installed. Does the player turn on when you connect it or does the battery icon just flash for charging?

• How do you set Zen sleek drive space through softwa

OK,
So I have a Zen sleek and I accidentally cracked the screen. No problem, used a wire remote and still good. Except the jack on the Zen broke and it doesn't respond now. So I figure I'll use this as a glorified portable hard dri've, except the manual says I need to set the size through the player, which I can't see what I'm doing. Does anybody know how I can do this through software? Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Cheers,

I just wanted to close out this question.
I never received a clear answer but in the end I don't need to use the function. My concern was that a new WD1001FALS would be louder than the OEM 320GB HDD in my iMac to the point that I wouldn't be happy with it. Not wanting to trade speed for quiet I passed on the Green caviar and went for the Black. After living with it for several weeks I can say that it is very quiet and while I don't know if it's measurably louder than the old drive, it's not enough for me to notice (and I'm pretty picky).
So, I'm happy with the drive as-is, case closed.
