Hellooooooooooo,
I have a zen sleek
it is good, very good.
i also have a problem, bad problem...
my laptop will not recognize that my sleek is plugged into it, which means i can not transfer music via my laptop+ not good.
he laptop is relati'vely old...it was built for windows 98 (.....i know, i know)
anyways, can anyone help me?
please?
Thanks!

The Zen Sleek is designed for Windows XP computers. However if you have an "Easy CD" that might of came with your Sleek then you can use this to install the software on your Windows 98 computer. If you didn't get this software then you can't get it working...

  • Success!! Zen Sleek recognized Finally working again!!!!!!!

So my Zen Sleek locked up on me. Reset didn't work did a format then tried to re-install the firmware but niether my desktop or laptop would recognize my player. I did the roll back of windows media with no luck on both my laptop and desk top. Then I followed the "PlaysForSure/Zen Player connection problems *read first*" post listed on the top of the fourm. I followed it and ended up having to "Changing the USB permission in the System Registry"? And it worked it was easy just follow the directions. Finally I have my player back. Have to reload all my music but better then throwing my player against a wall. I was just about there.
Their is hope people don't give up.

Glad you got everything working again. Yeah, sometimes that registry can be a pain and cause issues that you would never think would be caused by the registry:P
    Enjoy your player!

  • ZEN Sleek Not Recogni

I've recieved a ZEN Sleek a litle less than a year ago and it was working perfectly until about a month ago, when my computer suddenly stopped recognizing the player. I've followed the directions in the FAQ section and I've only been able to have the ZEN player show up in the device manager, but it is still not recognized by Windows Media Player or the ZEN Media Explorer. I know there's no problem with the cord, since the player is can connect to other computers and can still be used as an external dri've on my computer. I'm stumped as to what I should do. Any suggestions?

Maybe this can help you! It solved my problem on my Jukebox Zen USB 2.0.
I read this in an old thread, the tip came from SSR:
Try running a disk cleanup on the player. To access the Rescue Mode hold down the play button and KEEP it held down, press the tiny reset switch once, and KEEP the play button held down until the player boots into the Rescue Mode. Choose Disk Cleanup from the menu. Note: Disk cleanup should not remove your tracks. It searches through the disk for files and rebuilds the index, and can be useful for correcting any strange behaviour.

Hi i had this problem too and the solution was amazingly simple. (I found it by searching on Google for ages!) Turn your pc off and then unplug it from the mains for approximately 30 mins. I know it sounds crazy but apparantly static electricity can cause problems with usb devices particularly if you have your device already plugged in to USB port-Windows forgets its there! After 30 mins plug your pc back in to the mains and voila! your Zen will be recognised again.
2:44 AM : After 30 minutes of trying to fall asleep with no success turned on computer and connected the Zen... Didn't have much expectations, but IT WORKED! IT REALLY DID! WINDOWS FOUND THE DEVICE CORRECTLY AND EVERYTHING IS WORKING NOW!

  • Zen Sleek Model DAP-HD0018 not recognized

I have tried everything to get this player recognized in Windows Xp Home and haven't had any success. It does not show up in Device Manager other than unknown device. I have tried the registry settings to give USB the allow everyone permissions, and moved it around to all the usb ports and nothing. Tried it on my pc (XP Pro) and it doesn't work on it either. Is there any other tricks out there to try? I know it works, it was fine a before. I recently updated my dad's pc with a new motherbaord and processor but I don't think that is the problem.

  • Zen Sleek Photo no longer recognized

I have a Zen Sleek Photo 20GB, software version .5.0 - - My computers (PC and laptop) both recognized my Zen Sleek until Windows SP3 update. Since I have restored both back to before SP3 and WMP. Still not recognized. I've gone to the recovery mode on my Zen and done everything BUT the reformat. Now I've installed SP3 and WMP. Nothing hel
    ps.
Creatives website says there aren't any new updates for me. I hesitate to reformat as I don't want to wipe it clean and then still not be able to add music, pictures, etc. The Zen does work great, just isn't recognized. I've read this same problem with other models and tried the suggestions, nothing works. Any new ideas? I dont' want to buy a new MP3/iPod. [email protected]

Have you tried connecting to another computer? not yours maybe friend owns a Vista? You would not have to install ANY Creative software to check.Rear usb ports. Did you have WMP prior to the SP3 update? I know that is a special cord for the player ( i own a sleekphoto) are you using the cord that is made by Creative & not a generic one?The genreics can damage your device. Did you reinstall WMP?You won't need to buy another player since it works.

Apologies, I just noticed this was a Sleek Photo, rather than the original Sleek.
I'm guessing the Sleek Photo must be PlayForSure, so for some reason Windows is not picking up the MTP device driver. You can try forcing Windows, through Device Manager, to look in the directory C:\WINDOWS\INF where the MTP driver information is located.
Failing that, have a look at the link "problems with connecting using MTP firmware" in the FAQ post.

  • Zen sleek photo drivers not recognized by computer

I have a zen sleek photo that is not recognized by my laptop. I've reinstalled the software 3x and it still gives me a dialog box stating that "an error occurred in the installation of the device.the data is invalid " The software works in my other 2 desktop computers. I had the same situation happen with my zen
micro and I had to edit the registry. I was hoping somebody know the link on that fix. I got it on this board.
Any advice would be geatly appreciated..

    branded34,
Go to the Microsoft website and download this patch.

Run the patch and try installing the software again.

  • Real Player/XP crashed, now Zen Sleek 20GB not recogni

Okay, I had my Zen Sleek 20 GB connected one day, put the computer in standby mode, then disconnected the device. When I turned the computer back on, I got a blue screen (first time for this year-old Dell!) saying it had recovered from a major error. After that, anytime I tried to transfer an MP3 or anything else over to my player in Real, a message would pop up saying that the device did not support my file type, which was impossible. I thought the crash might have something to do with it, so I went ahead and uninstalled EVERYTHING on my computer, then reinstalled everything. Didn't work. Formatted my Zen, and erased the firmware. But when I tried to install the new firmware, the installation wizard didn't "see" the device, as if it wasn't connected. So now I'm clueless as to what to do next, and my player is completely on the fritz. Any ideas?

Howdy, I have a Zen MicroPhoto 8 GB player that is stuck, and as much as I know about MP3 players, even I can't fix this thing. Somebody's gotta help me now. I know how to access the Recovery mode, but that doesn't help me much if it freezes up when I access anything there. My computer doesn't even recognize the player either. I am running XP Pro with WMP-2. I usually like Creatives because it's easy for my PC to see it as a new dri've and then just copy/paste songs to it. I don't really like the time consumption of using a pc player to manage my music. Well, I really need help making my PC see the player. I think if I could see the player I could format and reinstall software....maybe. I don't have an a/c charger but have always charged it with the pc usb cable. I have two good batteries that will run the player too. I can always fix the GB or less Creative players (flash memory), even if my pc won't recognize them. I am apparently dumb about the hard dri've players cause I can't get anything to work to save my life. Once, and only once, I got my device manager to see it...but it wouldn't let me install or manage software transfer to the player. It just said "your player is not connected"....and I can't remember what I did to get it to see it in the device manager either. One more thing, I have a bluetooth a/c charger that has an output of 550 mA's. I have thought about connecting that and boosting the power...temporarily....to see if that does it.....but I'm a little scared to do that. I'm liable to fry my player...! Anybody know a way I can start to fix my 8GB player (signed: "Very Frustrated"

  • Creative Zen Sleek Photo Firmware Download does not recognize my pla

My Creative Zen Sleek Photo recently froze up. After restarting it, the "firmware problem" screen popped up. After reading up on it a bit, I decided to first clean, then reformat, and then reload the firmware. Everything went smoothly until I went to load the firmware back onto my Zen.
For whatever reason a screen pops up that says that my device is not connected to the computer, when it, in fact, is. I have tried several things including uninstalling Windows Media Player and repeatedly cleaning and reformatting in hopes that it would recognize it.
I have had no prior problems with the computer recognizing the device and I have loaded quite a bit of music onto it through this computer. Can anyone please help? Any more ideas? Anything will be helpful and appreciated. Thanks?

HelloHave a look at this thread http://www.anythingbutipod.com/forum...ead.php?t=6328?I had a similar problem with a Zen Sleek Photo and I am sure that this was the thread I used to recover the player when a firmware upgrade failed. Regards?

  • Windows 2000 not supported by Zen Sleek installation softwar

I have Windows XP at home and MS 2000 at work. I was successful with the Zen Sleek installation software at home, but cannot get the sfotware to install on my work copmputer which is running Windows 2000. What's the deal? The requirements are listed as Windows 98/2000/ME/XP, but at the beginning of the installation, it stops with the message that the application will not run on this operating system.
And are there any other pitfalls to trying to run the Zen Sleek with two different operating systems? I was hoping to get my Zen Sleek to act as my MS Outlook calendar and contacts carrier when I want to travel light.

On your Windows XP computer if the Sleek is recognized as an MTP Device or you see the words MTP anywhere when it first got detected, or everytime when you connect it and a window appears with the words MTP on it, then this means that the Sleek will ONLY work on Windows XP. The software might say that it will work with 2000/98/Me, but it comes down to if the Sleek will work with those OS's.
So if you see the words MTP anywhere, then it wont work with anything but Windows XP.

  • Zen Sleek Photo Installation Wo

Hey guys, I just bought a Creative Zen Sleek Photo MP3 player and i'm having trouble installing the driver. After plugging it in, windows detects the new hardware and goes thru the installation process the driver. At the end it tells me:
    "Cannot install this Hardware.
There was a problem installing this hardware.
    MTP Device
An error occured during the installation of the device.
The required section was not found in the INF."
There are only two INF files, one located in the root and one within Walmart/Files. I manually directed the installation wizard to both directories but the end result for both is the same. Nothing Happens.
Just wondering if anyone has encountered a similar problem or if there is a fix around for this?
    Cheers
    (winxpsp2)

Hello, I have had the same problem and had great help when I emailed creative.com. They recommended I uninstalled the software, disabled my broadband and disabled my spamkiller and security packages. Once I had done this I reinstalled and now my player was recognized immediately. This had never happened before. I now can download. Hope this helps Forgot to say also I had to make sure I had windows service pack 2.

  • New Zen Sleek Connection Problem...Frustrated...Please He

Hi All,?My Zen Sleek died about 2 months ago. I sent it back to Creative and I think I was sent a new one which I really appreciate. Anyway, I hooked it up to my new computer and it is not recognizing my Zen. It makes the noise of being connected but then makes a noise that kind of sounds like it's disconnected. It's really strange. I don't know what to do. The Zen actually turned off after a little while & then I had to reset it. Any ideas what it could be? It's very frustrating as I have been waiting for so long to get it back. Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks.

  • Audio File Not Valid! on Zen Sleek Ph

    Hello!
I've had a Zen SleekPhoto for a few days, and was initially delighted, until I realized that a significant part of my music collection will not transfer to the player.
I have many mp3 files which result in this message from Zen Sleek Photo Media Explorer when I try to send them to the player:
"Cannot Copy 'somefile.mp3': the audio file is not valid or not recognized. Do you want to skip this file?"
When I try to send the files using WinAmp, it just skips them without informing me.
    What does this mean
!!! These are all mp3 files with ID3 tags filled in. They play just fine on WinAmp, iTunes, and Windows Media Player. I'm sorry to say that I cannot give encoding details about all of them, as I have neraly a decade worth of encoding different disks on different computers at different times represented here.
Is there some type of mp3 this player will not play? Most are 28K mp3s.
    Firmware .0.0
    Windows XP system.
If I cannot get this player to play half my collection of music, I will have to return it to the store, which is a shame, as it seemed so promising. I would be grateful for any help.
A friend who got a Zen Sleek Photo a few days ago is also having the same problem on a different computer, with a different music collection entirely.Message Edited by celticchrys on 05-25-2006 0:45 PM

cheers for that,I didnt mean the clicking on the touch pad but the clicking coming from inside the player :smileytongue:I have found some other threads about it and it does seem to be normal...which is?good ...cheers for the replies

  • My computer don't identyfi my Creative Zen Sleek

I have installed Gnomad2, but the player isn't recognized.
    Dmesg:
usb 4-3: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 4
usb 4-3: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice

you probably need the udev rule
to have gnomad2 know where to look
that is unless it is its a mass storage device in which case you may need this stuff for udev rule
    http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Usi … _udev_rule
if you have a sata or scsi drive it will be seen as /dev/sdX  if your device is a mass storage device it will come up as /dev/sdY
oh here i did your homework
    /etc/udev/rules.d/00-zen.rules
    # Creative Zen Sleek
    SYSFS{idVendor}=="041e", SYSFS{idProduct}=="4137", SYMLINK+="njb-%n", MODE="666"
try it if it dont work than remove it
a little googling would have done it though
