Zen sleek: total loc

hello...
when i plugged in my zen sleek and opened the zen sleek
media explorer and pressed on: create playlist it frooze.
I can't turn it off.. i can't use the reset button.
It says that its still docked.
I have read the other posts about some of the same problems but they intended to work it out.
Now im sitting here with a no good mp3 player that can't even turn itself off.
Before the lockup, i installed the new firmware. i have never dropped my player into the ground either so its a software bug.
Now can someone please tell me what to do?
Ohh by the way: when i plug the player in to the computer windows says: usb device unreconised.
The only thing i have tought off is to let the battery run out and the recharge it again.

You will need to contact Creative Customer Support regarding the old firmware (unless the guy that once posted it himself still has it). The original non-MTP firmware on European Sleeks was one-of-a-kind; the only Sleek firmware Creative has ever released for download is the current MTP version (2.0.03), which requires the updated applications you installed.
Alternati'vely, Customer Support could help you with the current software and firmware. Unfortunately, there's not many reports of organizer sync problems. (The only items I've put into my Micro's organizer were ones I hand-keyed myself from the software; they transferred properly.)

  • Zen Sleek Photo Freezes/Locks Up after about 5 minutes usage (need to drain battery to recov

    Hi,
My 20G Zen Sleek Photo has just recently transformed itself into a useless brick.
No matter what I try and do, it always ends up freezing after about 5 minutes usage. When you force a reset it does unlock but when it comes back on it sticks on the Creative "copyright" start up screen.
I've reformatted and re-installed the firmware several times but with the same result.
    font face="comic sans ms,sans-serif">
The only time it totally unlocks is when you either:
() let the battery fully drain and then recharge it or
    (2) you disconnect the battery lead and then press the On/Off switch for several minutes.
I've looked everywhere for a solution/reason but nothing. You find plenty of people with the same problem but no answers. Surely someone knows how to fix the problem
Is it a faulty battery (unlikely because mine charges up fine and holds it charge well)
Is it the hard dri've (very unlikely since the player can start up correctly [given the above recovery procedure] and play tracks within the 5-0 minutes you have available)
Is it the firmware (I doubt it, I can't see what the firmware's got to do with a delayed lock up, having worked fine up to that point)
Is it the motherboard (maybe....., to my mind it points to a component failure that allows an electric charge to build up and not dissipate, the only way to discharge it is to short the battery pins [with, I hasten to add, the battery removed!])
    font face="comic sans ms,sans-serif">
Has anyone within the Creative community successfully solved this problem Has anyone received a decent answer from Creative
I find it staggering that the guys at Creative have washed their hands of this problem. They, after all, are the most likely people to identify the problem - only they have a schematic of the motherboard that would allow them to investigate and locate the problem.
For the record the firmware I'm using is v .0.0.
Any guidance would be much appreciated,
    Victor

Is there really no one with an answer to this problem or have I overlooked a previous post that explained the fault.

  • Can't Create or Organise Folders on Windows XP Home with a Zen Sleek (2

Any idea why my home computer, which has Windows XP home version, won't give me the option of creating new folders or dragging/dropping files in and out of folders when I open the Zen Sleek dri've on 'My Computer'? And yet on my daytime computer (with XP Pro) it's as easy as anything to open new folders, drag and drop, etc. I, perhaps foolishly, installed all the extra software at home that came with my Creative Zen Sleek thinking this would surely solve the problem, thinking surely somewhere in all that stuff I would find a programme allowing me to open folders and re-organise my files....but no. The screens just remain sort of 'frozen', not allowing such basic functions. Please -- any clues as to the way forward here? Many thanks to the community for all the help on these boards!

Me again -- just looked at all my files in my Zen Sleek - none of the folders are there. Am I totally off base? Is the Zen system just something other entirely than folder based? Where does a newbie get up to speed? Many thanks.

  • Transfering files from Zen Sleek to an Ip

Just to preface, I do love my Zen Sleek, and think it's far superior to the Ipod in nearly everyway, but alas, I got an 80 gb Ipod for christmas, and decided I should use it. Is it easy to transfer files from my Zen Sleek to the Ipod? How would one do this?

I'm not sure if I expressed my need clearly however a clone of my information for the sake of protecting my files is exactly what my goal was and is. I want to "clone" the information from my iMac to my Macbook so that my files are backed up and useable on both computers. This will protect my data and enable me to use my data on both computers. I had nothing to lose by using the migration assistant from the iMac to the Macbook because the Macbook is virgin so nothing data wise of a personal nature was on it ... and I was able to transfer the data. The problem is the files and all their attachment files that got transferred are not in the proper place for Logic to recognize and use and I don't know how to get the 100s of iTunes songs i transferred into iTunes. The migration assistant migrated the files however the intended programs on the computer that received the files don't SEE them. What good is a transferred protected file if you can't get it to run? That's my problem and I've no doubt it's something I simply don;t understand about how Apple computers work.
So i totally agree with you, I need to back up my files. And being able to do that successfully from one Mac to another in a form where the files can be used by the intended program on the computer that receives the file is exactly my goal.

  • Zen Sleek Freezing Is

When I first had my Zen Sleek it seemed to work like a charm, very happy with it's performance; untill one day I was putting music on it, and when all the transfering was done I un-plugged it and it frooze. I tried the recovery mode and that did not work, it simply was stuck on the screen of "Updating Library", I know the right way of entering the Recovery Mode, press and hold Play/Pause and stick a paper clip into the hole on the bottem side for around 5 seconds or more. But that did not work, so I called and the Phone service was not able to help me, so we came up with the idea of just simply letting the battery die and using it once it had died. I did that, but time after time again after that it still gave me freezing issues, even when transfering music onto my Sleek, the player would freeze and be as good as a rock untill I would unplug and let it die again. Finally fed up, I emailed for help and was given the idea of updating every thing, firmware, player, etc., I did all of these, none of which solved my problem. So I had it, I sent it in for a new one; Got my new player two days ago, reloaded all my music, seemed to work for a few days, let the battery completly drain. Today I plugged it in for a recharge, and while that was going I decided to put a few more albums on that I had got the day before, and as it was transfering the songs onto my player, same thing happend, my Sleek frooze completly, I can't enter Recovery mode at all. I'm stumped, I know my computer is plenty powerful enough to handle this task. But for some reason my computer seems to always put my Sleeks into a froozen mode, that can not be brought out of. My only guess is that Sleeks do not act well when low on battery power and you wish to do file transfering tasks.
Help please, I'm ready to cry

Hello there, my goodness I can completely relate to you but unfortunately I have no idea about what to do about it. My Sleek has totally frozen too but on the "Zen Sleek" screen and nothing, let me type that again nothing anyone has suggested has worked. The reset button does not work, i cannot get into recovery or maintenance mode, i can't turn it off i just have to wait until the battery runs down and then recharge it, turn it on again and exactly the same thing happens it remains frozen on the stupid screen. I am so upset, i've had problems with freezing before (although then it was usually when a song was playing and you just had to wait until the battery run down and then recharge and then it was fine after "rebuilding library" and am so tempted to go and replace this with an IPOD...yeah, do the unthinkable, an IPOD....

  • Zen Sleek Photo - Video posibiliti

    Hi,
Ive noticed that they managed to get video running on the ipod nano, thanks to someone making a firmware upgrade for it making it possible (http://www.gizmodo.com/gadgets/porta...ideo-44945.php for video and photos) I was thinking, surly the Zen sleek photo wouldnt have much bother doing this.. plus, having better storage than the nano, and a larger and better screen... i dont see why not ( the video encoding could be a free open source one)
Does anyone think this is possible?

Keep in mind, the ability to do video on the nano requires iPodLinux. This is not simply a "firmware upgrade", but a total replacement of Apple's firmware.
I'm not aware of anyone developing a "ZenLinux", so I wouldn't hold your breath.

  • Very slow ripping on Zen Sleek (20

Can anyone help? I ripped a couple of CDs yesterday to Zen Sleek using Explorer , but they took 2 hours in total to do! They were only set at 28 to mp3 format. Also, although they worked, there is what sounds like a very annoying ticking sound in the distance when playing the tracks. Has anybody else experienced this/have a solution?
    Thank you!

    HI,
Open Java Preferences (Applications/Utilities) Select the Network tab
    Click: Delete files
    Relaunch Safari.
And empty the Safari cache from the Safari menu.
Could be the site itself. An HTML validator came up with errors.

  • Zen Sleek Cannot Enter Recovery Mo

I hope this has not been covered yet.
Got the Zen Sleek a few weeks ago and got my first issue. The player wouldn't turn off. after looking at all the help files on how to reset the Sleek by holding the reset button down I was able to reset it. The second time it booted and locked up the normal method of holding down the reset button wouldn't work, so I had to hold down the forward seek button and the reset button (i swear it worked).
A week prior I hesistantly updated the firmware. Here is the information as I can still get the player to boot:
    Creative Zen Sleek
    Version: 2.0.03
    Total Space: 9053MB
    Free Space: 8407MB
    Track Count: 32
    Album Count: 32
    Playlist Count: 0
So here is the list I guess:
    a. There is corrupt data taking up around 0 gigs of space.
    b. I cannot access any tracks whatssoever in the player.
    c. The computer doesn't recognize the player when I plug it in.
    d. The recovery mode did work prior to upgrading the firmware to 2.0.03
    e. When I plug it in it says "Docked" but windows says: The device is not connected. Please connect your Zen Sleek to the computer (inside the Zen Sleek Media Explorer (for PlaysForSure device) window)
I have tried the numerous tutorials on resetting the player to get into the recovery mode but it has not worked for me.

    and

    Any help is appreciated!

I just upgraded to Windows Media Player 0, and although I don't use wmp to sync I did it to hopefully correct the MTP issue, however It won't detect the sleek in the sync menu even after powering the sleek off and on again. I do get a little icon in my system tray that says "MTP media player" when I hover over it with the mouse. Right clicking it simply displays the default actions dialog for windows: organize media files with creative media explorer, windows media player, or take no action. I tried this on another computer and I get the same result. I must have corrupted firmware.
I just emailed support referencing this thread and I am wondering if BestBuy will take it back I just bought it on the 4th of September.

  • Zen Sleek Photo, Connection/software prob

I bought a Zen Sleek Photo 20 GB, installed the software, recharged the battery and connected it properly to my pc. Now my PC gives me a message that it can install the driver, wich I thought i already had by installing the software. anyways, I click OK, but it doesn't seem to find anything, and it also says this, so I click [X]
I register online, all the codes and whatsoever, click Creative Zen Sleek Photo Media Explorer and... nothing 'Your creative Zen sleek photo isn't connected to your PC' it says, but it totally is!
So my pc seems to recignise my Sleek Photo as being a 'Zen Creative' but the software doesn't! something's odd here, since I properly installed, registered and connected it. On 3 different USB's, both direct ports as Hubs.
Now I might also include that although my pc seems to recognise the Sleek Photo, on-screen of my Sleek Photo, there is no indication whatsoever that it notices it's connected to the PC.
I read something about the Firmware ( which I can't install since I don't have Service Pack ).
The MediaSource Organiser seems to be working fine though.
I re-installed the Software TWICE, reseted and disk-cleared the Zen Sleek Photo, but nothing seems to work. can someone help me? I'm really desperate for help
And i totally don't want to have spent ?99.95 ( Plus ?9.95 for some kick-ass headphones ) for nothing here
I think I posted about everything hee now. any ideas or comments? thanx in advance.

I have Windows 2000 so this means I "can't" buy Zen Sleek Photo because it requires Windows XP?
Or is it possible to use Zen sleek photo in Windows 2000 somehow. I don?t need WMediaplayer (0) or Creative MediaSource, they are not so important in use I think.
Can I install drivers to W2000?
(I?m from Finland, sorry for bad english. Hard Rock Halleluja!)

  • Can Zen Sleek win this batt

At $250 it is a good buy. 20 gigs and all. The design of the Sleek is worse than the Micro. I loved the Micro's on/off/hold switch. This time around you have to take the unit out of your pocket to do the same function. Tactile buttons are not that serious, and make the player feel a bit ackward to use compared to Micro's touch pad buttons.
The real issue is I hate iPods. But with the new $299 video ipod being released.... color screen, 20 hr batt life, video playback and 30gigs......
I really like WMA but at 92kbps mp3 files are actually smaller and with LAME algorithms might actually be better at higher bit rates.
I hate apple, but at the same time, for $50 more you get a lot more.
If you only have $250 to spend it is no contest, Sleek beats NANO anyday in that price range.
I am a total Creative fan, Sound Blaster rules, the speakers rule, but the monochrome Sleek isn't pulling it in my opinion.
iAudio also disappointed me with their X5 players and iRi'ver's H0 doesn't seem all there.
What's your opinion guys? What is better than the Zen Sleek?

Do remember that the SleekPhoto is on the way. However, if it's like the MicroPhoto, the video iPod will win that one hands down.
Nonetheless, I do see two issues that could start to sink the iPod this Christmas season:
The iPod nano seems too thin and too fragile, and flash players as a whole are more vulnerable to competition than hard-dri've players (though the iPod shuffle did surprisingly well).</LI>
MTP/Janus was vaporware last Christmas, with few players and no stores (other than the Napster To Go beta); this Christmas there will be far more players and stores, including the ad campaign for Yahoo! Music Unlimited.</LI>
Sadly, though, I think the company with the best chance to be the "iPod killer" isn't Creative; it's SanDisk. Its new Sansa m200 flash-player series supports MTP/Janus and will have 2GB and 4GB models (in direct competition with the iPod nano). Its already-out 52MB and GB models are being sold at the same or lower prices from its original line, which IIRC has made it the No. 2 MP3-player seller in the US after Apple. (And they only have a handful of models--are you listening, Creative? BTW, my first MP3 player was an original SanDisk 52MB.) And with its own flash memory plants, SanDisk isn't affected by Apple's cornering the flash memory market to launch the iPod nano, as other flash-player makers (including Creative) are.
No, I'm not pushing SanDisk; I love my Micro, and I'm sure its cousins the Sleek and Zen 20GB are just as good. But the good news is, if SanDisk can kill the iPod nano this year, it makes it easier for Creative to take on the video iPods next year. Creative may be able to help kill the iPod nano with the 6GB Micro and 8GB MicroPhoto (if 8GB is pushed over the "photo" part which is too limited); otherwise their goose is cooked this year.

  • Zen Sleek Battery time, loading ti

I`ve bought my Zen Sleek 2005-07-29, but i have som problems with it.
The battery time is nearly on 8 hours instead of 8 that it stand it should be.
And the the seeking time when you shall listen to a song before it starts is sometime 5-6 sek.
    Is this normal?
Can i return it or get a new one or something?
I don`t now what to do.
I want`t the player to act normal, beacuse this is the best mp3 player i`ve ever had.
I just want a solution on my problem. Message Edited by UUnreal on 08-23-2005 03:24 PM

before you get too nervous about battery life, make sure you leave it plugged in and charging for several hours. The battery does not totally charge even when the indicator says "full". There is a 0% or so "trickle" charge that continues for some time after the fast charge cycle. I would guess this will add some playing time to your player. Also, the more you fool around with the thing while using it, the shorter battery life you get. Changing tracks, using shuffle (random), hitting buttons causing the backlight to go on all drain the battery faster. So do high bit-rate songs, especially high bit-rate WMA (which seems to draw fractionally more power than MP3). One of the biggest things I've noticed on my player (Touch) is that "random" causes the hard dri've to run WAY more often. Apparently it can't load as much into its internal memory at a time, so it has to seek and load songs far more often.

  • Creative Zen Sleek and the Now Playing-part of the firmw

    Hi,
this week I got my Creative Zen Sleek. I'm very satisfied, except for one thing - the Now Playing-part of the firmware (the list with all the songs queued up). In the old Nomad Jukebox Zen firmware, the list was divided by artist or album name. On the Zen Sleek, however, the list is just going on without even showing which songs belonging to which album etc.
This is really annoying me - would it be possible to fix this, or at least consider the possibility for this to be integrated in the next firmware upgrade?
    Sincerely
    Hein Haraldson Berg

& Putting the X-Fi into Recovery Mode and selecting clean up seemed to fix the problem, but it does still come up randomly.
The clean up puts the player menus back to their defaults though... any chance that in a future fix for the player, this wouldn't occur?

  • Creative Zen sleek, folder based explori

Ok, long story short. i upgraded my Zen sleeks firmware, and for my disapoint, i founded out that whit the new firmware i cant use the "Creative media explorer", and im "forced" to use ether the crappy Mediaplayer 0, or the the "drag and drop" function.
The problem is, for example i got folder "AC/DC" where i have lot of ACDC music, some of them are named by only the songs name, some of them are like "AC/DC - Highway to hell", some of them "ACDC - ****" and some of them "AC-DC - ****", now when i transfer that folder to my player, i got artist "AC/DC", "ACDC" "AC-DC" etc etc. Now, is there anyway to get rid of that "Artist, album" etc based browsing, and start to browse my music by folders?
Or, is there anyway to get the new firmware to work whit the creative media explorer? Since whit media explorer it was possible to convert folder names to "Artist names".
    thanks. Carl

Cat, this firmware is also available on the Creative US site; though the US Sleek was MTP/Janus out of the box (and its specs require WinXP), the specs didn't show Audible support. So there's definitely also a version of this firmware available that's not subject to EU volume-limiting regulations.
With the similarities between the Sleek and the Micro (similar controls, possibly similar chipsets?), does this indicate that an Audible upgrade is pending for Micro firmware (.x and/or 2.x)? And if so, will the 2.x upgrade also include the battery fixes in ..02?

  • Creative Zen Sleek Photo Firmware Download does not recognize my pla

My Creative Zen Sleek Photo recently froze up. After restarting it, the "firmware problem" screen popped up. After reading up on it a bit, I decided to first clean, then reformat, and then reload the firmware. Everything went smoothly until I went to load the firmware back onto my Zen.
For whatever reason a screen pops up that says that my device is not connected to the computer, when it, in fact, is. I have tried several things including uninstalling Windows Media Player and repeatedly cleaning and reformatting in hopes that it would recognize it.
I have had no prior problems with the computer recognizing the device and I have loaded quite a bit of music onto it through this computer. Can anyone please help? Any more ideas? Anything will be helpful and appreciated. Thanks?

HelloHave a look at this thread http://www.anythingbutipod.com/forum...ead.php?t=6328?I had a similar problem with a Zen Sleek Photo and I am sure that this was the thread I used to recover the player when a firmware upgrade failed. Regards?
