Zen Sleek Touchpad Issu

I got my Zen Sleek about two and a half weeks ago and I've having a big problem with it.
The touchpad isn't working when the Sleek isn't connected to the computer or the power supply. When it's just the Sleek and the headphones, the touchpad won't work. Yesterday I dropped it on the floor and ever since then the touchpad hasn't worked unless it was connected.
I tried resetting it but that didn't do anything except for one time, the volume scroll pad worked but it only went up. If I select an album or a song before I unplug it, then the song still plays but I can't adjust the volume or select a different song unless I plug it in again.
The on/off and the hold button work so at least I can turn it off but I have no idea what I should do.

• Zen Sleek Touchpad problem - scrolling down acts like a scroll

Yes, a strange problem I ran into today. Everytime I try to scroll down using the touchpad on my Zen Sleek, the cursor moves up instead. It's like the whole touchpad can only move the cursor in one-direction, up. Even if I try to use the rapid-scroll, the cursor just moves up rapidly
This happened yesterday, when on one bar of battery, my Sleek, around the afternoon froze while starting up and I could not restart it because I did not have a paperclip on me. After I get home hours later, I charge my Sleek since the battery died. And, now, today... I am at this rather strange problem.
And, my Sleek hasn't given me problems since I bought it a year ago besides the occasional lockups on one-bar of battery.

Hi,
i have a zen sleek bad dust under the screen returned it and have got another one, same issue again i dont want to return it again due to inconvenience and postage costs,
I have tried canned air and it doesnt work,
Has anyone got a fix for this and what else can i do? could creative swap it for another model mp3 player?
Thanks, Eddie

I've had to return a Sleek becuase of dust too. It doesn't matter how many new Zen Sleek's you get, they'll all get dust under the screen. When I got my second one, the FIRST thing I did was wrap the whole thing (except for the headphone socket and usb sockets and the touchpad) in clear tape. I find you can still use it perfectly and the tape really isn't noticeable unless you look closely. This is probably the best thing to do. Canned air didn't work for me. I've only found dust speck under the screen since getting my new player and it's because of the tape.
One of the truly useful accessories lacking for Creative products are protecti've skins. People shouldn't have to resort to covering their player with tape.

• Zen Sleek -WMP 11 - PC Music Library -Playli

Since December I have been unable to create/edit/delete any playlists using the PC Music Library, ?my preferred method with Creative MediaSource Organiser, on my Zen Sleek 20GB which was bought in Sept 05?& has performed wonderfully until then. In fact the PC Music Library doesn't seem to recognise the Zen Sleek even though it is connected and confirms as much. The Zen Sleek &?the PC Music Library don't seem to synchronise when new tracks are being imported.Around this time I did download Windows Media Player , at first without being aware of the compatability issues and the firmware requirements. I have corrected these and upgraded where required. I have rolled back to WMP0 but this has not changed anything and have indeed gone back to WMP because of this. The only (marginal) success with playlists is with using the Organiser's synchronisation facility but it is very inconsistent in transferring files.Any Suggestions

• My Creative Zen Sleek is bro

My Creti've Zen Sleek got dropped, so only half of the LCD display currently works. I have sent emails to Creative through the website asking for the necessary details so that it can be fixed, but have received absolutely no response. I understand that as it's accidental damage that I'll have to pay for the repairs and have no issue with this, so can someone please let me know the contact details I need so that I can send my Zen Sleek in to be fixed? I'm finding the zero response from Creative very frustrating, as I would like them to fix my device, rather than having to go elsewhere to try to get it fixed.

Thanks Cat,
I have sent 2 emails, one quoting my work email, which I thought might have blocked it so I sent another quoting my yahoo email address, which doesn't have spamguard turned on, but still no reply. So as the messages don't seem to be getting received, I don't know how I am meant to be able to get the details I require. Any further assistance would be much appreciated.

• My Zen Sleek Only works with USB 1.1 not 2

For Reference ( http://forums.creative.com/creativelabs/board/message?board.id=dap&message.id=953 )
So I figured out that when my Zen Sleek is connected to any USB port on my computer, (it's USB 2.0) it doesn't work.
It works in that I can browse the files, etc..etc.. but when i try to copy a song or some songs, it will crash after the first song is transfered.
So I have a USB . Hub, and I plug the Zen Sleek to it and well even though it's slow, it actually works. All songs transfer fine.
So I buy a new Belkin USB 2.0 Hub, same problem happens.
I have an EPOX 8K5A+2 motherboard, built in 4 ports of USB 2.0, gig PC2700 Ram, AthlonXP 2800+ etc.. Latest VIA Detonator drivers... Deleted all the USB ports and what not in Device Manager, rebooted, etc.. tried everything.. Any Ideas people?

Confirm you've installed the Media Player 0 updates KB902344 (http://download.microsoft.com/downlo...4-x86-INTL.exe) and KB8922(http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...08-FD6E7827CD8) on your XP system. I experienced the same transfer issues you report until after KB902344 installation.

• Transfering music from Napster To Go to Creative Zen Sleek Photo probl

Hello
I have a Creative Zen Sleek Photo with Napster To Go. I have Windows XP home edition. I can rip a CD to the hard dri've
of the computer and transfer music to the mp3 player, but I am receiving a message when trying to transfer music files
from Napster To Go. The message is the mp3 player will need an update to the firmware to work with Napster To Go.
The Zen Sleek Photo has the latest firmware. I had been able to transfer music from Napster To Go until recently.
Napster support referred me to Creative support but the Sleek Photo is past the warranty. Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you.
Bridget Ferrazzano

I had problems for the first month of my Napster membership (while I was still in the trial period). I nearly went elsewhere, but stayed with it. As soon as the trial period was over, everything worked perfectly. One suggestion is to use the same software for everything. Whether you use Creative media source, Napster's own software or media explorer or any of the others, stick with that one only. Do not give up and go to itunes. What a waste of money!?If you need to reload firmware or try another software, it's worth it.
I also had some issues getting help. Napster said the problem was with Creative and Creative said the problem was with Napster. Don't give up. Can you get ripped songs in?

• Zen Sleek with Windows

Just purchased Zen Sleek. Literature says it will work with Windows ME, but when I tried to install the included software, it would not work with this operating system. Contacted customer support, but no response yet. Anybody else have this problem. Next computer will have XP, but until then, I am looking for a possible solution.

I didn't have QuickTime or iTunes installed so that must not be an issue.
I have emailed Creative Support and they indicated that I can try to work with their support in another region to see if I can get the install that supports ME. Still working on that but I'm not optimistic.
Most likely I'll end up buying a new computer with XP so I'll end up having $000 cost to get going with a decent mp3 player. It's unfortunate but likely what will happen. Eventually want to get XP anyway but since my computer is ok for what I'm doing (except hooking up to my mp3 player) I was hoping not to have to do that - especially since I understand that the MTP that requires XP is basically required if you want to use Napster or Yahoo musicl. Since I'll just rip CDs I don't really need that.
Enough whining I guess. Thanks for the comments.

• Success!! Zen Sleek recognized Finally working again!!!!!!!

So my Zen Sleek locked up on me. Reset didn't work did a format then tried to re-install the firmware but niether my desktop or laptop would recognize my player. I did the roll back of windows media with no luck on both my laptop and desk top. Then I followed the "PlaysForSure/Zen Player connection problems *read first*" post listed on the top of the fourm. I followed it and ended up having to "Changing the USB permission in the System Registry"? And it worked it was easy just follow the directions. Finally I have my player back. Have to reload all my music but better then throwing my player against a wall. I was just about there.
Their is hope people don't give up.

Glad you got everything working again. Yeah, sometimes that registry can be a pain and cause issues that you would never think would be caused by the registry:P
Enjoy your player!

I have two q?I have a Zen Sleek Photo player and love it. . Our music displays the Artist. can i the display to Albums only?2. I just backedup my music to a external dri've. Can i delete my music on my pc then copy back to my pc from the external dri've?ThanksChuck?Message Edited by dancnsailr on 0-24-200809:29 PM

To A clean up, if that doesnt work do a firmware reinstall, IF that doesnt work, so a reformat, you can do all of this using the rescue mode, by the way, use rescue mode to reinstall the firmware.
For your battery issue, have you drained your battery down to 0% a lot? if so thats whats causing the issue with battery life, its really unhealthy for li-ion batterys to be drained to 0%. if you havent drained it much only once in a while like say once a month, then something else is wrong, make sure bass boost and custom eq are off along with smart volume. if there all off Drain the battery once more completely down to 0% and recharge it completely. tell me if that works, i dont visit this forum much now. you can email me or PM me here if its still bad so i dont have to go on looking and searching for this thread.

• Zen Sleek Freezing Is

When I first had my Zen Sleek it seemed to work like a charm, very happy with it's performance; untill one day I was putting music on it, and when all the transfering was done I un-plugged it and it frooze. I tried the recovery mode and that did not work, it simply was stuck on the screen of "Updating Library", I know the right way of entering the Recovery Mode, press and hold Play/Pause and stick a paper clip into the hole on the bottem side for around 5 seconds or more. But that did not work, so I called and the Phone service was not able to help me, so we came up with the idea of just simply letting the battery die and using it once it had died. I did that, but time after time again after that it still gave me freezing issues, even when transfering music onto my Sleek, the player would freeze and be as good as a rock untill I would unplug and let it die again. Finally fed up, I emailed for help and was given the idea of updating every thing, firmware, player, etc., I did all of these, none of which solved my problem. So I had it, I sent it in for a new one; Got my new player two days ago, reloaded all my music, seemed to work for a few days, let the battery completly drain. Today I plugged it in for a recharge, and while that was going I decided to put a few more albums on that I had got the day before, and as it was transfering the songs onto my player, same thing happend, my Sleek frooze completly, I can't enter Recovery mode at all. I'm stumped, I know my computer is plenty powerful enough to handle this task. But for some reason my computer seems to always put my Sleeks into a froozen mode, that can not be brought out of. My only guess is that Sleeks do not act well when low on battery power and you wish to do file transfering tasks.
Help please, I'm ready to cry

Hello there, my goodness I can completely relate to you but unfortunately I have no idea about what to do about it. My Sleek has totally frozen too but on the "Zen Sleek" screen and nothing, let me type that again nothing anyone has suggested has worked. The reset button does not work, i cannot get into recovery or maintenance mode, i can't turn it off i just have to wait until the battery runs down and then recharge it, turn it on again and exactly the same thing happens it remains frozen on the stupid screen. I am so upset, i've had problems with freezing before (although then it was usually when a song was playing and you just had to wait until the battery run down and then recharge and then it was fine after "rebuilding library" and am so tempted to go and replace this with an IPOD...yeah, do the unthinkable, an IPOD....

• Really, really sad Zen Sleek ow

I bought my Sleek back when I had my old Dell Optiplex GX260. It worked fine with that. But now I have this customized lightning computer. I love this computer! It runs WoW just fine. It doesn't suck at anything!
Except... The Zen Sleek. This PC ceases to recognize the Sleek for more that one second. When I try to transfer music, 70% of the time it freezes the Sleek. And the ones that freeze the Sleek are never able to get on to my Sleek. Never. It works perfectly with another computer.
Really odd?
When I unplug it my 'lightning fast computer' it crashes. Goes through startup process. Have to log in to Windows XP.
I have been brought to 3 possible things that would fix this issue.
. I only have SP2 on it. My old Dell has SP AND SP2. Perhaps I have to uninstall SP2 then install SP then reinstall SP2.
2. The USB cables on my PC are defecti've. I need a new motherboard.
3. The drivers aren't installed correctlty, which may be the probable cause of the forced reboots when I unplug the Zen Sleek.
And yes, the dust under the screen is really annoying, too. I might just sell this and go buy an iPod, who seem to have no problems at all.

• Zen Sleek and battery charg

I just purchased a Zen Sleek and I am currently charging it. The manual says it will take approx. 2 hrs. to charge, but it is running on 4 hrs.
It zipped past bars one, two and three. It is currently still showing as charging on the third bar, and has been like this again for 4 hrs.
How long does it take to complete, I'm hoping I don't have another bad Creative product on my hands.

It looks like I got my second defecti've Creative product in 5 months. FIrst, my Micro goes back for a refund because of the headphone jack, now the Sleek has an issue with the battery not fully charging. I read their knowledgebase, but I have found posts regarding others who have had to return their Sleek because of this defect.
Well, I will get a refund, and will NEVER touch Creative again, I have a Rio (which works great 00% of the time). Since they're gone, I will find a manufacturer who doesn't ship defecti've products at least in my case 00% of the time.
Go ahead, flame away, I'm not visiting this board anymore, so have fun. I'm not buying an iPod, but Apple doesn't ship crap at the rate this company does.Message Edited by Allen5 on 2-25-2005 2:34 AM

• Zen Sleek in Belgium? DE? NL?

I have been waiting to buy a MP3 player until I saw one that fitted my needs: small, 20Gb, mic build-in, good sound-quality and good-looking. Now this device is here: the Zen Sleek.
But, I don't find it in the Belgian, Dutch, German or French pages. Will the Sleek be sold in our country (or neighboring countries)?

I noticed it on the UK website, so I guess it will come to (all of) Europe eventually. This type of issues are mostly marketing related, and we users have no clue. Could be related to stock of older products (like the Zen Touch), or expected market share, logistics, ... I doubt anyone will really be able to give you an answer here, sorry :-(
You could try emailing the Belgian creative customer support, find their contact info somewhere on the site. (e.g. "Contact Us" from the main menu bar)

For some reason, the mic doesn't work. I can record with the player but when I play it back, no sound is heard. If I speak very LOUDLY and close to the zen sleek, then I can hear something, but barely. Any reasons why the mic isn't working? Or is it defecti've?

In reference to SSR's post, sure, I accept that these issues are not exactly unresolvable, but there is TOO much inconvenience involved for TOO many people. It shouldn't be a case of trawling through umpteen websites/FAQ's just to get a vague idea of what *might* be causing a problem. And since it appears these issues are quite frequent (from a commercial aspect at least) IMHO, Creative should attempt to proffer some easier resolution to the potential pitfalls, possibly by adding a few extra bits of software/instructions with the product.
Agreed
Creative should perform more checks on the computer to make sure that everything is required and installed and configured correctly to use the player. The steps listed in the MTP FAQ <a href='http://www.nomadness.net/modules.php?name=FAQ&myfaq=yes&id_cat=8&categories =Nomad+Jukebox+Zen#228' target=_blank>here. Are the most common methods to solve device detection issues. I'm sure Creative is aware of these problems and that these can be done. However Microsoft should be involved as it is their standard and Creative is simply making their products to the standard set out by Microsoft. Hopefully when WMP comes out, Microsoft would implement these changes or even change the way the computer recognizes MTP devices without disturbing the existing programs that do support MTP, like Notmad Explorer and Media Monkey. The suggestions listed in the FAQ are from Microsoft (hotfixes) and the users who have posted on the Creative, Dell, and iRi'ver forums. The suggestions were simply gathered up and put together.
<a href='http://www.myfilehut.com/userfiles/54685/fixup.zip' target=_blank>This file basically does everything listed in the FAQ, just doesn't download the hotfixes for you, but does do the registry changes, the Windows Services, and other things as well. Its a simple solution which I will start giving as suggestions more and more, hopefully it will end up in the MTP FAQ.
