Zen Sleek with Windows

Just purchased Zen Sleek. Literature says it will work with Windows ME, but when I tried to install the included software, it would not work with this operating system. Contacted customer support, but no response yet. Anybody else have this problem. Next computer will have XP, but until then, I am looking for a possible solution.

I didn't have QuickTime or iTunes installed so that must not be an issue.
I have emailed Creative Support and they indicated that I can try to work with their support in another region to see if I can get the install that supports ME. Still working on that but I'm not optimistic.
Most likely I'll end up buying a new computer with XP so I'll end up having $000 cost to get going with a decent mp3 player. It's unfortunate but likely what will happen. Eventually want to get XP anyway but since my computer is ok for what I'm doing (except hooking up to my mp3 player) I was hoping not to have to do that - especially since I understand that the MTP that requires XP is basically required if you want to use Napster or Yahoo musicl. Since I'll just rip CDs I don't really need that.
Enough whining I guess. Thanks for the comments.

  • Is the Creative ZEN compatible with Windows XP Pro x64 editi

Hello, I recently bought a Zune and then found out it wasn't compatible with my OS, XP Pro x64. I installed the software on my laptop, but it was just too troublesome to set everything up and exchange music, videos, etc. between the two machines. So I've decided to return the Zune and get a Zen instead. I'd really like to buy the ZEN 8GB, but it does not state whether or not the x64 edition is supported. The ZEN V Plus states that the software does support the OS, so if I have to get that one, I don't mind. Thanks.

CRe: Is the Creative ZEN compatible with Windows XP Pro x64 edition?H I recently bought a Zen 8GB mp3 player. I have an xp x64 pro OS. As soon as I tried to instal the included software from the CD, a dialogue box appeared stating, "The windows operating system running on this computer is not supported by this product." I have done everything the technical assistance group has suggested with the samed result including a clean install. I did load it on my 32 bit laptop. It works fine. ONe of the problems I have found is that the correspondance goes to a different person each time and they are not reading the dialogue. I have found a way to make it work (well somewhat) with my 64 bitg machine. Oddly enough thed software for my zen V load on fine but the software is incampatable with the Zen 8GB unit. I think that there are softwarfe problems and CT is not really dealing with them.

  • Windows operating system error with a Zen Sleek and windows 2

I have tried to install the creative disk that came with the Zen Sleek. After launch I get this message "windows operating system running on this computer is not supported by this product and can get no further. I am running windows 2000 pro. I have downloaded the creative media source program from the creative.com site and it will install beautifully but when you launch it, I get the error " CTCMS.exe has generated errors and will be closed by windows. You will need to restart program." I figure that these two problems are probably related. We have been able to transfer songs by using the play for sure, but I am disappointed otherwise.
    thanks, Kathy

On the packaging it should say the player is Win XP only. I'm not sure if the Sleek ships with the Easy CD that allows MTP/PlayForSure based players to work with earlier Windows versions.

  • Zen Sleek with PlaysForSure Firmware 2.01.03 and Windows 2

Would someone kindly advise me if this is a viable combination, and will the original Zen Sleek Media Explorer still work.
    Thanks and regards

Some have reported that reloading the firmware will fix the slowness. Gi've that a try and see if it works for you.
As for the file error that you are getting, download the following 3 hotfixes, esp the last one as it speficially fixes this error. The other 2 I suggest you download them just in case to prevent some errors that may appear.

  • ZEN SLEEK PHOTO & WINDOWS 98 SE!! AAAAAARGGH!

    Hi!
Apologies in advance if this problem has already been raised and addressed, but due to a mismatch of information, I find I have now invested in a lovely mp3 player (namely ZEN SLEEK PHOTO) I can't use. The problem? It's mimimum OE requirement is XP and I'm still running WINDOWS 98 SE. Okay, obviously the solution (ahem) is to upgrade to the XP System, but, I'm hearing all sorts of talk of driver updates, installations, fixes etc and wondered if someone knew of any available remedy here on Creative. At the present time, the installation disc is not chuffed with the OE system and I can get no further.
Anyone have any nice, straight-forward step-by-step solution they'd care to share?
    Cheers

<EM>It's a PlaysForSure device, and uses the same drivers any other PlaysForSure device uses. It's standardized.</EM>
I've finished downloading the drivers required. Do I now just need to connect my player or am I required to install the software on the ZEN SLEEK PHOTO first? The last time this was unsuccessful because of the Operating System. So if all this works, I'm guessing that it will be a case of transferring mp3 files (hopefully straight from my hard dri've through WMP) into the Zen player.
Can you please confirm the procedure using WMP?

  • Zen Sleek and Windows 2

I got the Zen Sleek on Amazon.com for myself for Christmas (firmware 2.00.06). I thought it would work with Windows 2000, as the requirements on the Creative website (and the box) said. So after figuring out that the Zen only ships in the US with the XP software, my friend got me a Zen installation disk from Creative customer service in the UK. So I tried to install this on my machine, but the installation will freeze at 99% when it says it's installing the windows drivers. If I put the disk back in again and run the installation, it says that everything has installed. When I plug in the player, Windows detects a new device, and does the Find Drivers wizard. So I point it to the Creative folder installed on my computer, the folder that is "jukebox 3 drivers." This doesn't work (It says no driver is found). I've tried uninstalling and then only re-installing the three drivers that are on the Creative disk (not letting the cd auto-play, going to the "drivers" folder, then "english", then running the three drivers...drv_jb.exe, drv_jb3.exe, drv_nm2.exe). The only problem that I can think of is that I plugged it into my roommate's computer that is running XP and now it has been somehow set to run on XP only. If I format the player will this erase the setting and allow me to install on my Windows 2000? Or am I out of luck since I my firmware is 2.00.06? Anyhelp would be greatly appreciated.

You're mostly out of luck. Most versions of the Sleek that shipped were for XP only, although some early models shipped with a v.xx PDE firmware that would work with other versions of Windows.
There is also an "Easy CD" which ships with some players to allow them to work on earlier versions of Windows, although you can only use Windows Media Player 9 to transfer.
I suggest getting in touch with Creative Support to see if you can either get the PDE firmware, or this Easy CD.

  • ZEN Sleek Photo & Windows 2000 p

I have recently purchased a ZEN Sleek Photo (firmware version .0.0e). I bought this from Argos, where it states quite clearly in the catalogue "Minimum PC specification Microsoft Windows 98SE/Me/2000/XP..." After finding the software refused to install on Windows 2000, I contacted Creative. Customer services refused to help, and I found their general attiture offensi've. On contacting Argos, their reply was "As it states on the website I can confirm that this item will only be compatible with operating system Windows XP and later systems." Well thank you Argos. Verry helpfull after already stating it works with Windows 2000!
I have found a latency driver
    http://us.creative.com/support/downloads/download.asp?DriverLang=033&searchString=+P4S_PCDR V_US__0_00.exe&Image.x=26&Image.y=3
This and WMP9 work with the player under Windows 2000, except that the track numbers are all -. I have found reports of this being a fault of WMP9. I then tried winamp, as it apparently works with the Sleek Photo.
    http://forums.winamp.com/showthread.php?s=9d604eed60033b9e5de774d3d597078d& threadid=238885&perpage=40&highlight=&pagenumber=3
It will not show the player at all (even after reinstalling drivers and winamp).
Can anyone help? I've no idea what to do next, and the player is currently a very expensi've paperweight.

I don't think this is going to help but here's what I've experienced with winamp:
I'm running xp/sp2. I was using winamp 5.2 and it would work with my zen touch and also with my iri'ver h0 (even though it would take a real long time detecting my iri'ver). Then I switched to winamp 5.24 and it wouldn't detect my iri'ver anymore, in fact, for some weird reason, winamp figured it was a cd dri've... Can't say if 5.24 worked with my zen touch since I didn't try it but it definitely didn't with my iri'ver. When I switched back to version 5.2 both players worked alright. Maybe somebody else knows if your problem could be a bug in the new version? There definitely is one with my iri'ver.

    Thanks, Eddie

I've had to return a Sleek becuase of dust too. It doesn't matter how many new Zen Sleek's you get, they'll all get dust under the screen. When I got my second one, the FIRST thing I did was wrap the whole thing (except for the headphone socket and usb sockets and the touchpad) in clear tape. I find you can still use it perfectly and the tape really isn't noticeable unless you look closely. This is probably the best thing to do. Canned air didn't work for me. I've only found dust speck under the screen since getting my new player and it's because of the tape.
One of the truly useful accessories lacking for Creative products are protecti've skins. People shouldn't have to resort to covering their player with tape.

  • Zen Micro with Windows 2000 Not Recogni

Help!! My computer operating Windows 2000 no longer recognizes my Zen Micro. It used to but no longer. I have searched through all the help loading everything under the sun with no success. My Micro is operating with Version ..0 that I understand should and has worked in the past with W2000.
Please help. This is ridiculous - no Zen here.

I finally figured that out. With ME or 2000, I needed to:
) download the version firmware to my memory stick
    2) take the player and V firmware to an XP machine
    3) have the older firmware flashed into the player
    4) reinstall the player on the ME machine
I did all that, had Best Buy do the reflash, and it's working now.
    A few more questions:
If I later update the computer to an XP, any problem with reinstalling Version 2 firmware (other than loosing stored data in the player)?
Exactly how many features are not supported by version firmware? I'm aware that it won't support subscription services, e.g., Napster To Go, and audible format. Are there any other missing I should be aware of?
    TIA

  • Windows 2000 not supported by Zen Sleek installation softwar

I have Windows XP at home and MS 2000 at work. I was successful with the Zen Sleek installation software at home, but cannot get the sfotware to install on my work copmputer which is running Windows 2000. What's the deal? The requirements are listed as Windows 98/2000/ME/XP, but at the beginning of the installation, it stops with the message that the application will not run on this operating system.
And are there any other pitfalls to trying to run the Zen Sleek with two different operating systems? I was hoping to get my Zen Sleek to act as my MS Outlook calendar and contacts carrier when I want to travel light.

On your Windows XP computer if the Sleek is recognized as an MTP Device or you see the words MTP anywhere when it first got detected, or everytime when you connect it and a window appears with the words MTP on it, then this means that the Sleek will ONLY work on Windows XP. The software might say that it will work with 2000/98/Me, but it comes down to if the Sleek will work with those OS's.
So if you see the words MTP anywhere, then it wont work with anything but Windows XP.

i will start with an apology if someone has posted this up before i have just had a quick look and could not see any think about this.
if i turn my computer on with out running any other programs and connect the zen touch the computer automatically turn on the zen touch media player program. this work's fine as long as no other programs are running.
i have tried to work the zen touch with Windows media player but this dose not work and the computer crashes every time.
i have window xp professional and have all up dates from Windows. my computer is very new and has more then enough memory and ram.
please can you help. i am not to happy with the zen touch computer program and would like to know how to fix this problem.
    thank you for your help

I wonder if there are problems here associated with the use of the zen touch on SP2 machines. Interestingly I cannot transfer music from my PC to my Zen 20gb on a SP2 machine but I can do so on my sisters machine which has got SP. Obviously having the lastest firmware is a good idea though but I believe there are issues associated with SP2 and as you say you have all the latest updates to windows perhaps the problem lies there. Sorry if this doesn't help you at all

  • Zen Sleek and Xbox 36

Have anybody tried the Zen Sleek with Xbox 360... and does it work ?

It is a change, the two firmwares will behave differently so you will notice the difference. There are a few software updates available along with the firmware though (the Software Suite), so you can still use MediaSource for instance.
If you update to a PlaysForSure/MTP firmware, you should bear in mind that the player will only work on systems with WindowsXP (SP2 and higher) and Windows Media Player 0.
